[Q] Best way to backup current setup? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hey XDA peeps!
Well, i knows noobs are not that well seen here, so im not really fond of asking this question (which prolly has been answered several times before), but now ive searched for quite some time, and checked alot of threads (looking thru many pages), havent found a good answer yet. So here goes
How do i backup my current setup before i apply a new theme? Im thinking about SMS/Contacts/Pictures/LauncherPRO + icons and so on? I need it if:
1. I dont like the theme
2. My phone gets bricked and i need to do a complete swipe.
Thanks in advance..

The good way is to backup by xrecovery it will backup everything or
you can also you launcher pro backup utility seen in preferences menu
for sms you can you backup and restore

If i use the xRecovery for backup, will it create a zip file or? And does it include backup of SMS, contacts etc. - or do i need a seperate program for that?

Hi,
I've already used SpriteBackup to backup my device, but I can't find any way of restoring just the messages. Any ideas?

I have 2 programs to store massage only
i find them and tell you there;-)
One of them is PIM Backup and it is a good programe
it is freeware and in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
another programe that i have, can store messege in text format file, but i can't remember the name of it sorry
Ok, thanks.
I'll give PIM Backup a go.
However, I've already done a backup using SpriteBackup and upgraded to a new ROM. So, ideally, I'd like to be able to extract the messages from the backup file.
Of course, if that's not possible, I'll have to flash back to the previous ROM, restore the backup, extract the msgs using PIM backup, flash back to the current ROM, and copy the msgs back. Phew!
R.
use sprite explorer (free download from sprite backup software )if you used sprite to backup and restore pim.vol??? maybe, can't really remember the name of the file...Did you try google? i know pim.vol includes contacts, etc not real sure about text msg's never really had a need to keep sms

Aha, that's the sort of information I was looking for - I've had a look through the backup using Sprite Explorer but I had no idea what the name of the file containing the msgs might be.
I'll take another look.
In the meantime, if anyone knows the name and location of the file(s) containing the msgs (text and MMS) it would help me greatly if you could let me know!
Thanks,
R.

No, I'm not. I guess the only way to find out is to restore a backup and see if the msgs are there.
If not, I shall rant at the makers of SpriteBackup and re-think my backup strategy!!
Fortunately, I'm not all that bothered about the msgs - I can manage without them.
Thanks for your continued interest in my petty problems!

[HELP] Backup and Restore App for MiniCM

Hi, I'm now using the MiniCM rom. Everything works fine and its a really really awesome ROM.
MiniCM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964223
But I'm facing ONE deadly problem, There's no "Backup and Restore" app in it.. I've tried searching the net for the .apk but most of them, after installing, shows a "LOCKED" as I'm not running the official ROM..
Someone please give me a link to the cracked one that will work for my MiniCM ROM? I know there's one, I used it before , but deleted it after i changed back to stock ROM. Now I changed back to MiniCM and I really really need the app..
Please help thanks for your time
First of all you were posting on the wrong section. This should be posted in General Section. Second posting of warez here are not allowed, with regards to your query you can search for titanium backup, to backup/restore your application, but if you want to backup your system use xrecovery for that! Hope it this helps.
Alright, but all my contacts were backed up using Backup and Restore, i need the same app again to restore my contacts.. Titanium backup couldn't do that.

you should have backup your contacts using titanium backup or just sync it with google..its easier that way
Yup just sync it with google or you can export it to SD. In froyobread the fix for Restore and Backup is by just editing build.prop, coz dx uses Sh!t instead of Sony, and that causes the problem in Restore & Backup, i dont know with MiniCM

I have very little knowledge about this kinda stuff man. I don't even know what's build.prop :/
you can always reflash to stock 2.1 rom, restore your contacts using Backup and Restore, then sync it with google account before flashing any custom ROM.
ps: and you posted this in the wrong section, and you should do a search first since I think I've seen someone posted backup and restore apk somewhere.

So what do you all suggest I do now?
Google myphoneexplorer.
OR you can do manually using this steps (dont need internet access to save your contacts)
1. goto "Contacts"
2. press menu button -> Import/Export
3. select "Export to SD card"
it will saved as 001.vcf (you can save to your PC if u want)
to restore, using same steps 1-2 and for steps 3 select Import from SD card
Use Backup everything, it backs up everything except the contacts, you have to do this manually.

if you can't find a working Backup and Restore apk, then I'd say you should reflash to stock eclair (or restore an eclair xrecovery backup if you made one), and restore your contacts.
then, you can rebackup your contacts again using any of our suggestions (google sync, export to sd card, backupeverything, or myphoneexplorer).

[Q] Restore texts on CM9?

So, I'm a new owner of an HTC Evo 4g LTE.
I'm currently running the CM9 ROM. Previous, was running Stock With Goodies (v.1.52 I believe?).
When I switched between the two, I guess GoBackup (the app I was using to backup all my stuff) didn't save my messages from the secure box. So, I had a friend send me the backup of our texts, and it's in the .hbk file format.
How can I restore texts from a .hbk file?
I haven't found any threads of the sort, so my apologies if this is a duplicate!

Try downloading a SMS backup app from the play store. Once you have downloaded it, go to the app and go to the location of the .hbk file and try and restore it. I hope I have answered your question.
Also, if you use Titanium for app backup it now supports backing up call logs and SMS/MMS across any ROM
.hbk is the file format for the sense stock sms app when you use it to backup sms.
I am also having a problem with it though, as when I try to restore my sms, it says internal storage unavailable..and no app I've tried supports hbk
No Idea what to do, but I suppose lesson learned, never trust stock.
Having the same issue , no app I have tried can read a .hbk file.
Has anyone had any luck with this. I have installed CM10 HTC one x jellybean and backed up the .HBK file from my previous ROM.
I really need to restore these SMS messages. Any ideas on how I can restore this?
Any help is appreciated guys!
Thanks
Cm9 lmao cm10 is in stable mode haha

the .hbk file needs to be in a folder called sms_backup on the sdcard.

Extracting SMS from CWM6 nandroid

Hi all, i've been trying to restore my sms-es from a nandroid backup. Apps like appextractor do not work as my backup was made using the new method introduced in CWM 6. The data files are store in a file called data.ext4. is there anyway to extract my data? Thanks!
Use the app called NANDROID browser to find the SMS files (something.db I think, google "where are texts stored in android"), extract them to the sd card, and paste them into the correct system location.

Well AFAIK, CWM nandroid backup is backing up every single file what's in the phone's flash chip. System, boot, recovery and data (which contains database for SMS's too) so if other files are there, so should be SMS database also. Can't tell how to extract it from there since its using this new blobs structure now, but maybe there's a way..

I was wondering why appextractor wasn't restoring sms backups on nandroid.
I tried the TiBk and it works but when showing conversation list when opening mms app, the time of when the last message was received is the time when it was restored. all the sms's time/date are good though when viewing the thread.
EDIT: Nevermind, it works perfectly, date/time is all good in conversation view, just when it was restoring that it was messed up.
I can't find a program that can "explore" nandroid's made with CWM 6+ based recoveries, due to the change in format. Nandroid Browser and Titanium Backup no longer work for this purpose. Anyone find one?

Almost a month ago now so I'm not sure if you're still looking for a solution, but I've found that the beta version of AppExtractor v2.0 from AppsByAndy is able to read and extract apps and data from nandroid backups created with CWM6.
I went and bought a couple of his apps even though I didn't need them. Just for appreciation.
Oh and specifically I used the app to restore SMSes. Worked so well I'm going to use it for clean installs in the future.

Even that is difficult. I've tried using unyaffs but CWM6 no longer produces a data.img to explore / extract.
I can't post links yet (10 post miminum before I can link). If you can be bothered, do a Google search for "Koushik Dutta New ClockworkMod Backup Format" and the first link should be a Google+ post giving an overview of the new backup format from ClockworkMod 6.
Edit: seems I can link.

[Q] Backup before Custom ROM

Hi there,
Sorry if a similar thread has been opened numerous times. But I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I rooted my S3 and want to try a couple of ROMs before I decide to settle on one of them.
I had a rom backup using ROM Manager, but I'm guessing that backup includes everything in my current system. I'll keep it, it's good to have an extra backup.
My question is, is there a way for me to have a backup of only some apps and their gallery folders (ie Whatsapp Shared Images folder, Instagram), my contacts and all of my pictures so I can get only the things I want back when I'm trying out new ROMs.
Also, what do you suggest before installing a custom rom? Thanks.

The app part you can do so with titanium backup or some similar 3rd part applications, I am sure they hundreds outta there.
Install new ROM won't affect your sdcard, so the images shared folder is OK, and setting can be restore by titanium backcup
Nothing special to suggest, just remember back up before you do it.

Don't use Rom manager
To back up make a nandroid in recovery
Back up efs with HC-KTOOL
Backup with titanium pro as well
Then make copies of all and duplicate to pc/cloud/etc
Thank you both for the answers. Especially about efs, I had no idea how harmful it was to not have a backup of it.
