Lost contacts - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I got ahead of myself last night and flashed to trips 2.2 beta. I accidentally backed up after I flashed in xrecovery. My contacts are on this backup, (the backup does not boot) is there any way recover these contacts?
If I restore it hangs on the boot screen, I have 2.1 stock rooted backup that works also.
I have 2.1 running now. Would it be possible to only recover data through advance recovery to get contacts?
I also backed up with back up and restore(got deleted?), and mybackuppro(who knows where it went).

did you backup with SE's app? if so then you may have a chance by installing it on the beta and then recovering
if not then idk :/

Help with restoring a nandroid please!

Earlier I rooted my phone and flashed it with Bionix Fusion. All went well and it was working just fine. Although after looking through the new rom I remembered I forgot to save my contacts.... I followed the instructions on installing bionix and I created a nandroid backup. Somebody who similarly forgot to save his contacts said to restore the backup sync the contacts to google and then flash the rom over again.
My issue is that I tried to flash my backup and now its been stuck on the Vibrant screen for the past 10 minutes. What went wrong?
please help and ty for your time
well because I couldnt get the nandroid backup to restore correctly I ended up just going back and flashing the bionix fusion rom again and its booting up just fine. Unfortunately I feel that I just lost all my contacts. Anybody have any ideas? Did my nandroid backup just get corrupt somehow? Is there anyways i can somehow get my contacts from the backup?
Whoever posted that must have meant that you should make a backup before flashing any rom. If yiu did that, you could have went back to that backup with all you contacts intact. Its too late now, hopefully google synced most of your contacts.

If you are running Voodoo lagfix, you have to disable the lagfix BEFORE restoring
i did do the backup before flashing. But i guess it just got screwed up somehow. I've never used any lagfixes either
Which version did you flash? I'm going to guess you used one that did not have a stock kernel (JAC/KK)... you would have to flash the stock kernel before restoring a nandroid backup from JI6 or JFD since IT has a stock kernel. The nandroid does not replace the kernel, hence why it would hang at the Vibrant screen.

Q: Help me with restoring to my backed up stock 2.1 rom

I followed the steps on development to root and back up with CWM. After i flashed a 2.2 rom, nero 3 with voodoo, I found that all my contacts were gone, so I did a restore to save the contacts on my backed up to my sim card. I did disable any lagfix and flashed a 2.1 modem Jl6 before i restore back to my stock back up using CWM. Everything looked good until i got to the "sweep to unlock phone" screen. THe phone would just freeze there and keeps restarting the sweep to unlock phone screen. Any solutions to this? Even though i'm loving the new rom but I would love to be able to revert back to stock (my backed up rom) when samsung releases the official 2.2 update. Thanks a bunch for looking at my issue.

ICS passion from Juwe

So I updated my phone from Juwe's ported rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156046
to ICS passion.
I backed up my apps data using TB. Then I did a nandroid backup from CWM and flashed ICS passion.
Then I realized that I forgot to backup my contacts and SMS (some of my contacts are not stored on Google). So I tried using the nandroid backup to go back but was stuck at the vibrant logo - bricked.
I went through all the procedures of getting the JVD, flashing, rooting, installing CMW and then GB bootloaders. Tried getting back to the Juwe's rom to no avail, got stuck in the recovery bootloop. Nothing worked.
So I re-installed ICS passion without my contacts and SMS. Any way to get back the system data from the backups?
Nandroid doesn't backup your kernel so when you restored it put you back on gb but still had the ics kernel. You just need to be back on a gb rom and your nandroid should restore fine.
Edit: Correction. New versions of cwm DO backup the kernel. I've had problems restoring nandroids across different os's though so still try it from gb.

[Q] Problem restoring via CWM - Data

Hello, I need some help with restoring via CWM on the Galaxy S3.
On the S2 I pretty much always used CM9 and jumped back and forth between versions and backing up/ restoring was never an issue.
Now however I am using the stock ROM and its rooted of course.
I made a back up of my stock rom 'cause I wanted to try and install some stuff.
I tried installing the jelly bean transition effects but the install failed, the device felt kinda sluggish (maybe my imagination) afterwards so I decided to restore my phone. The restoring went good but the last ting that happens is that CWM says that restoring /Data failed.
I reboot my phone and I come to the first start up screen where I get to choose language and so on. Everything but photos has been deleted. I try to install CM9, and I do that without any issues. Then I trie to backup my stock backup but I get the same error message and I get back to stock setup page.
My backup is a staggering 6GB, and I read somewhere that CWM can only restore 2GB?
I've deleted that backup and done another one but that is also 6GB.
Does anyone know how to restore from that first restore or how to make future restores work?

I had this problem with my sisters Xperia X8,couldn't restore anything that i backed up.It goes for a while and stops. But she had bootloader locked.I was shore that i unlocked her bootloader but i didn't,so i unlocked bootloader, and tried to backup and restore and it worked fine.
I'm not 100% and i don't know is that the way CWM works, but i think in order to restore your data, that you backed up,you have to unlock your bootloader. But it's the best to wait someone who knows this for 100% sure.
If you haven't unlocked bootloader try that,or you don't won't to lose your warranty!?
Good luck!
I don't think that CWM has size limitation but i can be wrong.
Have you made sure that your CWM is up-to-date? if in doubt flash the latest CF-root.
was there ever a resolution to this problem? I did the same thing, rooted the galaxy s 3 and unlock the bootloader. Get a backup of my stock set up using clockwork recovery mod. Now when I try to restore, it does not restore the data. All of my apps look like they are there, but none of them are really installed. I think I can just reinstall all of the apps by hand, I would like to know how to get over this.

please help mee

i rooted my x10 mini, flashed nAa kernel via flash tool & installed cyanogenmod.
i made a nandroid backup before that, now i want to go back to stock rom,so i clicked restore in recovery and restored it.
but now my phone is not turning on,
did the kernel change caused this issue
please anyone help me
I read somewhere that if you want to go to stock rom, you have to re-lock bootloader. Try to search for more about it.

The restore only restores the rom, not the kernel, and the stock rom won't run on a custom kernel.
You either need to get a stock kernel to flash with flashtool or repair your phone using SEUS or PC Companion
The Backup will still be available for restoring, if you figure out how to install CWM on the stock kernel/rom
And there is NEVER a need to relock the bootloader, unless you want to send it for repairs under warranty.
other problem
cheers everyone.
i have an other problem with my u20i.
i think i made very bad, crappy ****. =/
this term is correct for me too:

i must say- everything is more than fine. after something like 10 hrs i really like it and tought i should test some other customs too.
but now my problem:
like above is wrote: i have the backup. but what i doesnt minded is- i need to restore my contacts..
normally i would say- okay. i will ask in facebook or something like this- but i have/had somethin ´bout 300contacts.
i thought the google-acc will add all my contacts if i log in( it does as i´ve used an other android-phone some weeks ago[the owner got all my contacts in his contacts-.-]) so- it doesnt adding them for now.
is there any way to restore just the contacts? i know- i should backup them seperately- but its too late now..
i looked around to open the ".img" data, but i only can burn them to disk.
i really dont want to restore the stock rom too get the contacts and backing them up otherwise.
hope you understand what i´m talking about.
mean-language is german- so ask if something isnt clear.
thanks everyone

Maybe you've got Auto-synchronisation turned off, so it won't sync your phone with your google-account automatically.
If all your contacts are still on your google-account (check with your pc) then syncing (Settings-Accounts and Synchronisation-Synchronise) should get them back on your phone.
If that doesn't work, restore your previous backup and maybe export your contacts to sd-card, then flash back your new rom and import your contacts from sd-card (in the contacts application, press the menu button and choose import-export)
You could go into CWM - backup and restore and do an advanced restore, which will put back all the settings and data from your original rom, but not all that may be compatible with your new rom, so it might cause more problems than it solves.
Those are your options, as far as I'm aware.
There is a way to 'decompile' the data.img of your backup, if you've got an Android-kitchen, which is for developers, but that's quite complicated, and i wouldn't know where to look for the contact-details that are stored there.
