[Q] Buying SGS2 in New York trip

I'm travelling to NYC in a few weeks and am really interested in buying this phone. The cheapest way I found is ordering it from Clove or Handtec and have it sent to a Fedex office for me to pick it up (it will be impossible to receive it at my place).
The only inconvenient I have is that I will be here for 11 days, and in case i order it 3 or 4 days before leaving i don't know if I will receive it on time, as I'm not familiar with US customs.
If anyone has another idea, please tell me, as I'm desiring to buy this phone from a long time now and in Argentina is impossible to do so (it's $1300 at least!).
Thanks for your help and excuse me for my english, I'm working on it
Cheapest way to get it my my opinion would be to Purchase it on www.expansys-usa.com its 719.99 use promo LSJUNE25 for 25$ off. Have it shipped and call fedex to hold at fedex location. Goto the fedex location and pick it up. I got it over at expansys it took 3 days to deliver to NYC and I live in NYC. It's really upto you. If you are staying at a hotel, you can get it shipped to the hotel and get it. If you need any help let me know.
The phone actually cost me 694.99 after the 25$ off. If you sign up for ebates.com you can get 26.50 cash back so that will drop the price even further.
Also.. No tax/ free shipping over at expansys.
The only problem of buying at EXpansys US is that they require an US billing address, which I don't have. And I'm not staying at a hotel, it's an apartment where nobody will be available to receive it.
Check mobilecityonline. They are located in downtown NYC

MCO is an option, the only problem is it'll cost 100 bucks more as it's 740 plus tax. That is a bit off my budget , considering that from UK I can get it with case, screen protector and MHL adaptor for 750 with shipping.

Hmmm. Yes. Do you have any friends here in the US that you can give cash and they can order it for you from expansys? Also another idea, they have an option to pay with paypal. Maybe that will bypass the US billing address. Give them a call, They have great support working there. They'll help you out.

There´s no one I know that lives in the US, I've already contacted them and pretty much told me there's no way I could buy it. I'll try with Expansys UK, as I think they take international credit cards. I read in a thread that someone from NYC already bought from them. Thanks for your help.

Alright. Hope all ends well. Some tips for NYC... Please .. OH PLEASE! don't stand in the middle of the streets of nyc looking up at the pretty lights. People have to get places so move over to the side and don't stop randomly in the middle. That's the only reason i hate tourists. Other than that enjoy your trip!

Us people that ordered through BB have to wait till Sunday. There now don't you feel better. lol
I'm not sure if the extra 2 day wait was worth the $50 and a case I'll probably never use. Right now it don't feel like it.
That was my dilemma as well. Of course BB made it easier for me when I got up at 3 AM on Feb 5th to preorder and there wasn't an option to preorder on BB yet. Also, I'm not sure if I just overlooked it or what, but on BB's online orders I didn't see an option to keep my 2 GB of data for $25. I barely use 1 GB so I definitely didn't need 3 GB. That really sealed the deal for me. I didn't see myself using the flip case either.
Although I'm going to try out the AT&T live tv 7 day trial when I get my Note and see if it's worth the $10 per month. If I end up keeping it I will probably need the extra gig of data for $5 bucks more. We will see though.

I have an older Slingbox and I'm thinking about upgrading to a high def one. It really is great. You get all your channels that you get at home. If you have Sattelite or cable and movie channels it's awesome.
You should look into a Slingbox. It will pay for itself with a lot more channels, including all your locals.
That looks awesome, but it has a little too much up front cost for me right now. With getting a $300 phone, I don't think my wife would enjoy me spending another $330 to be able to watch TV on it. But you are right, it would definitely pay off in the long run. That is unless I got fired for watching TV at work, haha.

I don't know if we get that.
Also I wonder if we get that cool sample HD video that shows off the screen capabilities, like the Intl. Note has.
@ 9:30 she points out a speedtest result when "we forced the phone to HSPA+"...does this mean LTE can be disabled in the AT&T version? I remember reading that was not an option with the Skyrocket?
Does slingbox provide its own content to cable and local channels or is it working off an existing provider like a fios tv?

It just slings whatever channels you have on your satellite or cable TV over the internet to your phone.
It has these infrared things that hang in front of my satellite box that allow it to change my channels. It used to freak my kids out on Sundays when they were watching cartoons and the channel would change to football all by itself because I changed on my phone at work.
One great thing about these phones with the hdmi out capabilities and a slingbox is that you could be in a hotel anywhere in the world and hook your phone up to the TV and watch all of your channels, local, movie, etc.

I will ask her and report back.
EDIT: Lisa said there is not voice and data over LTE yet. When you make a phone call, the phone switches to HSPA+ and then takes a minute to go back to LTE after you end the call and that is when she did the speed test on HSPA+. There is not LTE/HSPA+ toggle on the ATT Gnote.
Thanks for the update! Hopefully a custom rom will remedy that sooner than later!

Sprint Galaxy Note 3 discussion (Info, accessories, colors)

Folks who are getting the Galaxy Note 3 on Sprint who aren't being scared off by the FUD being spread in the triband thread, here's our own discussion topic!
Now that Sprint has officially announced the Galaxy Note 3 launch on October 4, let us discuss! It's kind of strange they haven't set up pre-orders yet. This leads me to believe they probably won't. With a little over a week left until the launch, it appears that those who order online won't be able to get it until October 7th/8th. Also heard rumors that Sprint won't have the pink option or 64GB version available. It sucks but oh well. At least 32GB is the base model this year!
What color are you getting?
Are you getting the Galaxy Gear smartwatch too?
Accessories?
-I'll be getting black, since white has LED light bleed.
-No Galaxy Gear
-I have two bumper cases (clear and white/black) and a crappy S-style tpu kickstand case with a few screen protectors. I'm not sure If I will get the flip cover yet.
Are you guys excited? I sure am!

I bought my SGII Epic 4G Touch through them back in 2011. I bought it for the same price as directly from Sprint while convincing them to give me a discount equal to the activation fee (~$36) - essentially to "waive" it. I also accumulated some best buy reward zone points
Best Buy is a fine option when purchasing on contract if you can find a deal. I'd probably look elsewhere for off-contract and full-retail purchases, though.

I have been doing a time analysis of how (email, calendar, social media, video's & gaming, music) and where (location) I use my phone the most etc..
I have come to the conclusion that the places where I happen to use my phone the most and during its most intense use of bandwidth also happens to be the places in which I have access to great wifi signal. I know this isn't how most folks use their phones but its really how I use my phone and when I don't usually have a great signal. I just pop out my mifi and I am having a great signal once again. Is it irritating that Sprint dropped the triband? Yup and Yup. Is it a deal breaker for me to go to a slower and smaller phone? Nope and Nope..
The things that I am more interested in hearing about is
What Dac are they using for the audio processor?
Can I use usb 3 as a digital for my audio amp?
What will the transfer speed be on my USB3 HD which is running a 500gb SSD
Battery life
Has anyone been able to use a 128GB sd card in the unit, and have it recognize all 128GB?
What screen protector works best in direct sunlight.
I wonder how the charging port lines up compared to the Note II. Hoping I can still use my Note II car cradle and charger

The Note 3 for Sprint will be a world phone. Love it!
So after 3 years and 4 months since I've owned Sprint 4g phones, a new tower in the area went live with LTE. Here's to hoping it doesn't take another 3 years for the tower near my home to be upgraded. I'm ready for my Note III....

just so you know. I havn't had a problem with best buy increasing price for products but if that is the case, they price match with the carriers. they also give you the lower price for pre-orders. for example if you order an item and its fairly certain it will retail for say $50 and then release rolls up and it is $60 they will sell it to you for the $50. you may just have to mention it to the employee checking you out but the managers know whats up.
Can't link to BB price match due to new user =) but google "Best buy price match" and it will be the first link
I have had to mention the PM once and the employee just had to get the manager to sign off on it which he had absolutely no prob doing. took maybe 2 min after I had mentioned it. then the lady behind me did the same thing because she was there for the same product for her son I would assume. With the new one up program, if i am eligible for a upgrade, do i have to trade in my phone.? Id like to keep it for my daughter. Also what exactly do you pay for when doing this? Any money up front? I appreciate any advice or insight

No HeadPhones????

So I got Note 3 from an authorized retailer paid 360, got a small box with charger 2 manuals, quick start and warranty. and the phone.
My friend got the same thing for Tmobile today, he got a nice big box with head phones.
And he also paid 360.
So I wonder, Does the AT&T Version come in a crappy box?, or did I get screwed?
I am going to write the company about this, AT&T and Samsung, for 360$ they should have atleast included the headphones and even a micro-SD
Please let me know if this applies to me.
yep att version does not come with headphones
verizon does not have headphones either
360?
Bloody hell, for 360 i'd have setted for just the phone, without everything else....
You need to realize everyone else has to pay over $1000 for the same phone...
I'm assuming you also did not get the pentip replacements, then?
If you call AT&T and complain, if the rep is nice, they might give you $10 or $15 courtesy credit for the inconvenience.

I'm assuming the $360 is also with a 2 year contract.
I paid nothing for mine in the UK but I have a 2 year contract.
Sprint's Note 3 comes with headphones
My AT&T version Note 2 was the same way. No headphones, generic box. A bit of a letdown considering the awesomeness of this device. Definitely doesn't make for a spectacular unboxing.
whats an att box look like? i got a nice tmobile "wood" box
Both of the Note 3's I got a few days ago were $700 each (without contract). I purchased both at a T-mobile booth in the Mall. Both came in a nice wood-look box with USB 3.0 data cable, 110v wall plug, headphones, and pentips (though at first, I had no damn idea what they were.. lol)
Both of the Samsung Gear watches I picked up at Best Buy tonight, came in the same nice wood-look box.

My understanding is that the ATT deal is more expensive when you add in two years or service. T-Mobile charged me $708 upfront for the phone, but has unlimited everything for $70/month, or unlimited voice/text plus 2.5 GB 4G Data for $50. They also have the phone for zero to $199 down & no interest on the remainder, over 2 years.
I've been a customer since 1998 and my only complaint is the sketchy reception in some office buildings. Good thing they free WiFi calling.

Yes, I forgot, I was already on an old family plan at $80 for 2 lines, with 500mb of 4G, and could add 2 Gb for $10.
For new customers/current plans it is:
$50 for unlimited talk & text & 500 mb of 4G, then unlimited data at a slower speed (I don't know how slow)
$60 the 4 G slows after 2.5 GB
$70 unlimited 4G, plus you can share 2.5 Gb of 4G with WiFi hot spot.

AT&T Plain box with no headphones.
I got mine from AT&T and it came in a plain orange and white box with no headphones. Seriously though the audio out from the N3 is way too good to waste on cheap headphones. I'm using Shure E3C earphones and the sound quality is stunning, especially if you use well recorded 24/96KHz FLAC files. USB Audio also works really well with this phone and an external USB DAC/Headphone Amp.
As far as plans go I bought mine outright for $700 and no plan. I use AT&T GoPhone plan which is .10/minute and $5 per month for 50MB of data. I spend only $100 per year total since I hardly ever make calls and am almost always in WiFi range. I did run a Speedtest on 4G LTE and it returned 26Mb/s download, 20Mb/s upload. Damn fast and consumed my entire months data in 15s
AT&T stores definitely don't like you doing this of course and I had to go to two different stores and spend three hours arguing with the manager to get it. At the second store he was down to pulling up listings on ebay and suggesting I buy it there. When I held my ground and threatened to sign up for a contract (which he knew I'd cancel the second I left the store) he finally gave in and sold it to me.
Of course I didn't get my $375 discount but their minimum plan is $80 a month including fees so over two years I'm saving $1720 which entirely pays for the phone and leaves me another $1000 to spend on other goodies (2 x PS4 for example ).

You need to realize everyone else has to pay over $1000 for the same phone...
I'm assuming you also did not get the pentip replacements, then?

If you're paying over $1000 you're insane. The retail on an unlocked Note 3 is less than $800.

Ohhhh that's what those things were
Mine came with earphones.
Those who say they got headphones: What size was the box? Can someone post a photo of the heaphones. I would have preferred headphones to earphones.

Gear Circle in the US!

All,
I purchased the Gear Circle wireless headphones from T-mobile. I saw a tweet from a T-mobile employee yesterday stating that are available in local stores. Whaa!?! I called five stores and finally found a store in Tampa who had them in stock. They are selling them for $130.
I've had them for 30 minutes so I haven't had much hands on time with them. The sound quality is great as you can adjust the equalizer on your phone. My only complaint so far is I wish I could turn the volume up higher. There might be another option for it. I need to play around with the headset more.
Anyhoo, thought I would spread the news to my xda family. Enjoy!

Assuming you don't have the Gear S yet what do you have it paired? Your Note 4 by chance and is there a separate app you have to download for the speech to text or can you just say OK Google right out of the box
Sorry, I cant speak on the comparison between the Circle and the LG headphones as I never owned a pair of LG headphones.
I'm a avid runner/bicyclist and I wanted wireless headphones while exercising and these fit the bill. Cost was not an issue.
The headphones work with S voice out the box. I've tried using Google as the default and no dice. Is there another app I can use to make Google work? I'm not a fan of S voice.
Update: I'm using "S for Switch Voice" to use Google Now on my Note 3. Instructions for the app are in the link below. Hope this helps.

OK so your Gear circle is paired to you Note 3 right now I see. And thanks for the heads-up on Google Now
I saw that the gear circle has NFC have you tired that yet? I guess this helps justify the high price they want. Although I saw some on Ebay for around 100$
Wow, I didnt know the circle had nfc capabilities. Sounds cool. But I'd rather swipe my card than pull off my headset to pay for something. Call me lazy!

LOL agreed
Why does a headset need NFC? I'm planning on vetting a headset along with the gear s but is there really any difference between these and the LG???

I think the NFC has to do with the tags so it can automatic connect once it;s in range of the tag vs bluetooth. I have the LG tones Plus they work fine for me when the price comes down to say 60$ I will buy the circle
Yeah I imagine the Nfc tag is there to connect to a device / start an app like music player rather than as a payment method.
These look like a sweet set of headphones but don't know if I have a need for them!
Will any newer bluetooth headset work with the Gear S to play music through?
