I was in the process of going to djs 2.2 and i got to the 2.1 stage and a message popped up saying an update was available and it would let me upgrade to dell official 2.2. I LOVE DJS 2.2 but i wanna try te official 2.2. is there a badside t doing it this way or will anything negative happen to my phone.
It downloaded fine on the phone and for being the official release its pretty good

The biggest negative would be that you would be using a stock dell rom LOL.
Have been updating DJ Steve's roms ever since day one, and to get straight to the point there amazing, fast, stable and have helped make my streak into my best phone ever.
I would never dream of going back to a stock rom.

This is a Question about Steve's ROM and should have been asked in his thread and not in the Open Forum

Last weekend I flashed Bionix 1.7. It is awesome! Best rom so far. However, I am currently looking to install the front facing camera in hopes to Skype once that opens up to Vibrant. If Bionix 1.7 does not receive OTA, then what should I do to get Froyo? I am a noob so any help at all would be great.

I am currently set up as follows;
Baseband version T959UVJI2
kernel version 2.6.29
Build number ECLAIR.UVJI6
Firmware Version 2.1-update1

Well first of all, you have to wait for froyo to be released for the Vibrant.
Secondly, you probably wont want to upgrade to the OTA froyo. If you like what you have now, you will want to wait until someone releases a ROM based off of it.
In order to get the OTA if you did want it, you'd probably have to make sure you flash back to the stock kernel and such so that you can get the OTA when it does come available.
I would wait for the froyo release of your current ROM and not get the OTA update. Never know what they are going to throw in there to hack the hackers.
I appreciate the quick response. Are you confident enough in a supporting ROM that I should make the move and install the camera?

Dude,
Bionix will probably have 2.2 before it is released OTA lol.. Dont sweat it

Yes, if not Bionix then someone else will.
Thanks. I will order and install the camera, and wait for the people that know what they are doing instead of T-Mobile.

Bionix is a machine, I don't think he ever sleeps. 1.8 is likely to be out today and if not, probably tomorrow. Even if Tmo released 2.2, I would wait for Bionix to make a ROM based on it.
That being said, if you have a custom ROM, you shouldn't be receiving OTA updates. It just doesn't work. (Although, I have heard of a few instances of people running custom ROM's and still getting the update notification, )
What can 1.8 bring? 1.7 is rock solid.

Believe it or not, fixes and more awesomeness.
i dont mean to rush the developers by thiis but more a question of curiosity
will the 2.2 froyo rom make it out of beta and into a stable rom with total funcionality?
because i already see a gingerbread rom up too lol how would a gingerbread rom pop up before the froyo was finished?
EDIT -- i get it, stupid question and i apologize if i offended anybody
It's a polite way to say it but its still rude. I have beta 4 for freex10 2.2 and its pretty stable, but it has its bugs. Camera even works with an app called vignette. Camcorder works with videocamera illusion. Its not done but I use it for everyday use without an issue. You should try it.
And I too use beta3 with vignette and. Videcam illusion and no problems at all, no reboots or weird activity or anything....better than what I was getting from 1. 6 or 2.1 that's for sure.

Although 2.3 is out, 2.2 is better than 2.1 in my opinion because of its faster speed. It's much cleaner and without a lot of junk like 2.1 has. The themes are also really cool too. I usually don't find any problems with it much unless you happen to bring something from 2.1 to 2.2 which might screw things up a little.
Since it's so easy why don't you develop a 2.2 rom then?

once again .. didint mean to rush or be rude or anything, just curious to see if 2.2 wouldnt get completed as a result of trying to perfect the newcomer 2.3
i know these devs are doing this for us, and they are doing a fantastic jjob
since i joined xda i have learned alot and done a few mods, but im still a bit skeptical about jumping into a beta rom in case of problems, my phone is something i need to work anytime no excuses.. i cant afford to be caught with a phone that doesnt call out or something
I'm sure z will finish his at some point. As will trip and the others. Just relax at this point and use what you can to speed up 2.1. Once they are final then make a jump. I run the cyanogen combo rom as a daily and haven't had too many bugs but if you need rock solid stability stick with se firmware for now.

There's no possible way for u to really rush anything anyway. So it just comes off as being rude.

I love the beta⁴ does every thing I need it for. I do hope we end up with HD video recording, but even if it never happens this is a quantum leap over 1.6 that SE delivered

I installed wolfbreaks free 2.2/cm mod rom. I'd had a couple of 2.1 roms but took the plunge, the difference is pretty amazing. Quadrant score is 13500-14000 with apps, totally stable and a world apart from 1.6...

Im on trigger 2.2. I'm really happy with it but, all I see on android development is 2.3. I've tried 2.3 before and didn't see any system improvements.
with all the 2.3 threads going on is it really worth it going to 2.3 even with all the bugs in it. I understand gps not working. But is it really worth the bugs and craziness of installing 2.3?

im on 2.3.4 cm 7 very stable and loving it! The next rom i flash back for must be damm good because im loving cm7!
Is there ANY hope for getting an x10a version of GB this week? I keep hearing we might have to wait till end of month, specially the global ones(4820).
Sent from my x10a (still running 2.1 sadly) using XDA App
Don't know about that, but you should try flashing it to Wolfbreak's GB ROM. It's just like the stock 2.3.3 but tweaked... I'm already running it and it looks nice, It's stable, and It's even faster and lighter than the stock rom
Well u can expect that update to arrive @ friday I guess...
X10a are the last on the list it seems so... only thing left is to wait @[email protected]

I'm asking this because i don't want to OTA update and find out i'm disadvantaged.
T-Mobile UK is my carrier.
AFAIK, i don't ever want to come back to Froyo, i want to stick to the latest stock and in the future, CM7 etc. Is it safe to just OTA it, and would i be disadvantaged in any way? What do you guys recommend me to do?

You can OTA with no problems. The only issue with OTA is that you can't flash back to Froyo.
If your not sure if you want stock GB, then browse through some of the GB threads. If you want a better idea of what Gingerbread will be like, check out the YouTube GB Atrix reviews.
Either way you can unlock your Bootloader on Froyo or GB. Whether you want stock Froyo or GB, well that's up to you...

Thanks matey. I don't see the need for Froyo tbh, but i thought i'd ask to be on the safe side! Stock GB would be nice, if i wanted more then there's always custom roms! Want to experience Android as close to its original version as possible (damn motoblur!) lol, thanks again!

No problem. BTW if you really want to move more away from Motoblur grab a launcher like LauncherPro, ADW, or Go.
Personally I like LP the best since its the smoothest IMO on the Atrix. The phone definitely feels more Vanilla using any of those than Motoblur that's for sure...

Found out the update message before was a false alarm, the 2.3.4 is coming in a few days to my carrier which i'm ok with. Got Launcher Pro from your recommendation, its bloomin' fast! Pinch to show all home screens is as smooth as it can be whereas on blur it lags! Btw i'm using the MIUI music player which is awesome, can i get a good gallery app like on gingerbread? this one sucks ass!
