Car Home App - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a Car Home app on the 318 release? I just can't find a decent one through the market, and the Google official one is missing.

Here you go, install both of these and you'll have Google Car Home running

Thanks Bro, the launcher was what I needed.

many thanks from me as well. wow, it even auto launches on carkit bluetooth connection. *giggles* now I just need a proper car holder...

I use a Grip-it wind shield mount. its adjustable and fairly cheap. I sell them in my store for $35. But I am sure you can get them anywhere. I'll post a picture later if you want to see my set up.
Have you noticed you can't add non-Car Home apps as shortcuts? I found that last night as I use double twist, but could only link the default android music player. Very odd!

ah, i am looking for something less... windy. I hate windshield mounts and furthermore I already purchased a brodit/proclip stand for my car and I'd hate to waste that money. only problem is that brodit does not make anything specific for the streak
re apps, dunno I just added messaging and it works.

I just re-installed the app and it's working fine now. Must have been a glitch.
The Grip It comes in a vent clip, but if I recall it has the mount holes for attaching to a goose neck/tunnel mount.

Official Samsung Dock App Question

Hi,
I have a question about the dock.
When I plug the phone into it, the Samsung Home app gets launched. If I uninstall it, tuneIn gets launched.
Is there a way to set up the phone so no application is launched and it just goes to the Home screen?
I have tried clearing the defaults for tuneIn but it has none.
Thanks.
Try going to Manage Applications, Tunein, and clear data. Then dock, and it should ask what you want to launch. I don't see any way to NOT select something if you've got TuneIn loaded, though (I just tried it). I'd contact their support if clear data doesn't help.
FYI my alarm clock app does the same thing (Kaloer Clock) - their option to disable it doesn't seem to work on the i777, but I just hit home when it launches and deal with it 'cause I like it to much

I'll give it a shot tonight and see if it helps. The weird thing is that Clear defaults is disabled for TuneIn.
Thanks.
I had the same problem with TuneIn as OP. I think it is a bug in TuneIn.
A solution that worked for me was to install Dock No-Op. You can find it here.
Well, clearing data for TuneIn did not work but the No-Op did.
Funny to see a bunch of apps in the market like that one that do nothing
Now the strange problem I'm having is that ADW is going to a page to the right from my default when I drop it in the dock. Oh, well, that I can live with.
Thanks for the help guys.
I'm on CM7 and nothing launches. And it won't charge through the dock. Any idea why?
I'm not really sue. I am waiting for CM9 for my phone.
I use CM7 on my tablet and it charges fine with it's dock.
I hate to suggest this but can you try with a different ROM or phone to check if the dock is not the problem.

Original Car Home

So i don't know about you guys but i hate the vlingo car home app that came with the note. I finally got the original car home app working great on my note. So thought i would let you guys know i did it. Steps:
1) go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569027 and download the car home apk, 4th post.
2) install apk
3) once you install the apk it will not show up in your app drawer
4)flash the launcher from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081009 (i guess you could get the apk from here too..) be sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing.
5) reboot and the icon should be in the app drawer and it should open and ask you if you want to use voice search (vlingo) or car home. And it works perfectly so far for me
Can also try Car Home Ultra, which is (or appears to be) the new version of the original Car Home. I've been using that and like it better than both the Vlingo car app and the original Car Home app. Car Home Ultra is in the market for free.
I've been using Car Home Ultra Free for a few days now and like it, but I think it's got an expiration after 15 days or so, and then you need to buy it. I like it and I will buy it.

[Q] Car mode

Does anyone know how to trigger car mode without a dock? I just ordered a car dock and wanted to play around with car mode prior to receiving the dock. I'm running Scott's CleanRom Dev 1.4. I'm not sure that car mode is included in that ROM. On my Droid X2, I could run a battery across the back of the phone and it would trigger dock mode.

That makes sense. If I were to install one from the market, would the dock trigger it? I guess a better question would be: What exactly triggers car mode?
I am using CleanRom 4.3 and I know it is on that. The shortcut to it does not appear in the app drawer even though it is installed. If you go to settings and then apps, click on the "All" tab and scrol down. If you find "Car Panel", then you have a stock HTC car dock app. I miss my car dock from my Droid X. The one from the Rezound pales in comparison. I know that the Droid X used a tiny magnet in their dock to launch car mode. And also another magnet in their homedock switched in the opposite way to launch that. I am guessing that the Rezound uses a similar method. The solution I found was to download an app from another site called carhomelauncher.zip and then when extracted, you will have the carhomelauncher.apk. Just put that on your ext-sd card and install it. That will allow you to launch the stock car dock whenever you want. Also after finding this, I stumbled on the carhomegoogle.zip. When extracted, this gives you the carhomegoogle.apk which IMHO, is much better car dock than the stock one and very easy to customize and more screens than the Droid X had. It reminds me of my old Droid X one. My biggest issue with most car dock programs has always been in landscape mode and finding a decent dialer that works in landscape. The google one uses the stock dialer but allows it somehow to go into landscape mode.
Give these a try and see if they work for you. IIRC, after I installed it on mine, I had to remove the "music" button which wouldn't work and added shortcut to the stock music player. I also had to remove the "Maps" button and added the shortcut to google maps because I like it better. You may have to do the same. I included both zip files but because I am new, I don't know if I am alowed to add attachments.

Yes, the dock should trigger it as well. What should happen if you install a car dock from the market, when you place it in the dock, a box will pop up asking you which one you want to use. It will also have a "default" box that you can select and from then on, whichever one you chose will automatically launch. Otherwise, don't select the default and the box will always pop up and you can always choose.

The one thing that I really liked about the Droid X car dock app was when you selected "Maps" in the program, It would show you not only your location on the maps but your driving speed as well. The rezound doesn't do that and neither does the Google one. But other than that, I am much happier with the Google app than the Rezound one.
I downloaded both files and extracted them, but I don't see an APK in either one. I'll try again when I'm near a computer.

You know, I can be pretty stupid sometimes...... You are right, when extracted they are not apk files. Don't extract them. Just change the extension from .zip to.apk and then put them on the SD card. Then they will install. Sorry about the bad info.....
Better yet, I just uploaded them here as .apks
I would like to completely get rid of car dock mode, I renamed the apk but the stupid notification icon still comes up when I dock my phone. Anyone know how to get rid of that? My phone works fine as is I don't need a special "short bus" mode for when I am driving.
I would suggest trying to disable it. If you go into settings/apps and click on the "All" tab. Look for "Car Panel" and click on it. There should be a disable button. Click on that and it shouldn't come up anymore. I just tested it with the launcher app. After disabling it, my only choices were another car dock app I had previously installed from the market and the Google car app. When it is enabled, all three choices come up. So if the only one you have is the stock "Car Panel" app, just disable it and you should be good to go. I think the little car mode icon will still show in the notification bar but that should be all.
However, I must add that once you disable it, I do not know how you would reenable it later if you wanted to use it again. Maybe someone else can help with that.

To access hidden apps like car panel or mirror just go to your home screen hit search and start typing it in.It should pop right up even if its not in your app drawer

Thanks everyone. I finally got it working. The ROM i'm running is senseless and didn't include the carhome APK. Had to move it to system/app and set the permissions. I still can't figure out what triggers it. I understand the app can be launched by searching it, but the dock has to trigger it somehow. I've had no luck with a magnet. I've read on some other devices that the plug on the dock actually triggers car mode.

Possible to Modify the Car.APK

Has anyone found a way to modify the apps that show up in Car Mode?
I love the idea of Car mode/app but the apps that appear are stupid if you ask me. Is there a ROM that has different apps or is there a zip I can flash with different apps or something?
I couldn't find anything on XDA about this and it scared me a little, like I am the only one who wants the apps changed.
Keep the Phone and Google Maps Navigation on the left hand side
Music change to Google Music
Internet Radio change to... anything thing else. lol
no your not the only one, i am too i use car mode constantly since i drive alot and i have the car dock, i wish i could change that too
Why don't you just try the nfc options and get some tags that will open what you want to open, where you want to open them?

Apparently I read from goodandevo.com that the One Series got an update that allowed them to change exactly these things. Here's to hoping that it comes soon because I love the car app on this phone.
Edit: finally found the source at pocketables, the new home of goodandevo.

Me too. I really like the look and graphics of the Car Panel stock app that originally came with the EVO. However since I have rooted to Mikg v3.11 I noticed that Car Panel app is in here too. However, the problem is Footprints is no longer operable, i.e. dead link. I did find an alternative Footprints on Google's Play that I like. It would be nice to modify the Car Panel to Footprints graphic to LINK to the alternative Footprints, a like shortcut. app.:fingers-crossed:

[Q] Pandora navigation won't go away

Hi guys,
I listened to pandora last night, I've closed and reopened pandora a dozen times trying to get the Pandora navigation card off my LG G watch but it won't leave and I can't dismiss it. Any ideas?

I want to resurrect this thread. I'm the one who posted the issue in the thread above, but I agree this deserves its own thread.
I've emailed back and forth to Pandora support, and they wash their hands of it, and told me to talk to LG. I'm of the opinion that if there were no native Wear support for Pandora, how does it work in the first place? It displays album art and allows you to pause, play and skip. The Pandora support monkey says they don't support Wear, period.
Sorry for any confusion, but as I mentioned before, we do not support Wear functionality. The card may be appearing due to the way LG identifies music playing on your phone. Since we have not yet created an implementation for Android Wear, there isn't anything we can change to fix this.
Again, I'd recommend reaching out to LG about this issue to see if there is anything they can do about the music card on their end.
Let me know how that conversation goes.

Wear simply pulls the image, text, and buttons from a notification. In the case of media playback, it pulls that functionality from the same place your lockscreen does to display the art and pause/next functionality. Music apps don't need to do anything to work with Wear. I feel like what they're saying is true... Because I've encountered this bug on a few other apps. I think it's a bug in the Wear software itself (or just bad code on the developer's part). I figured it might have something to do with media apps not releasing themselves from the system correctly so Wear doesn't realize the app has stopped and no longer wants to display track info.
You can change watch face or open Amazon prime music and Swype off to get rid of it. prime works as it should.

While it may be a case of evolving functionality, I think it's chickenshark of Pandora to simply dish it off on LG or Google. I would hope that they'd take some ownership in the matter, and contact LG themselves to see what might be done, or offer some workaround. They just told me to go pound sand.

Oh, that definitely sounds like Pandora to me. They're incredibly lazy. Look how many years it's taken them just to get playback controls in the ongoing notification.
Found a workaround in the other thread on this topic. If you press Pause on the Wear card, you can then swipe right to dismiss it.

Works for some people, hasn't worked for me.
EDIT: Correction. This now works for me. Weird.
Same with Sticher or TuneIn for me...
I have had this happen for Sticher and TuneIn as well. I placed the watch in "airplane mode" and the notification on the watch immediately went away. Turned off "airplane mode" on the watch and everything was normal.
