Hi,
I would like to know if anyone is having read and write issues with their 8gb Patriot Micro SDHC cards.
I noticed when i load apps onto the phone thru the card, the apps will not load up their details info.
when i look at apps thru astro file manager they usually have an icon or a green market icon, but all it shows is a white settings like file icon.
Most apps also have problems detecting the card.
I got the cards from newegg, so I know they're not fakes.
my replacement card came in today and it has the same issues.
I formatted the card many time using many different programs and it doesn't solve the problem.
I tried my 8gb transcend card and I don't have any problems with it.
so i think it narrows down the problem to the cards.
I just want to know it anyone ran into this problem before, so i can know the issue is the card and not my phone.
thanks
I too have problems. After some research on the net it looks like there is a problem with X10 Mini/X10 Mini Pro and Class 4 SDHC cards. All other Class' works.
I do not know it it is hardware problems(with Mini/Mini Pro not the SDHC card) as some suggest or software/firmware problems.
And I must say it is really annoying and also typical for SE to f**k things up. Must say this is the LAST time I will buy a SE.
/Edit
The stuff I found on the net:

The G2 also has problem reading the card.
I got a replacement card and the problem is still there.
I don't have any other class 4 cards to test.
The problem is real
Yes, they have problem with class 4 and 6 cards. I used 8 GB SDHC class IV with my new xperia pro and it had a restart problem but no problem with class 2 card.
\Basically its a a hardware problem. That renders Xperia mini pro useless with class IV cards.
I surrendered 2 of my Xperia mini pro...and switched to milestone....PEACE now
Same issue with my Galaxy S
For weeks I was frustrated with my Toshiba microsdhc 8gb card corrupting my phone, but I discovered it was NOT the card causing the problem.
After talking to Samsumg, I had a Samsung engineer flash my phone and the phone and external SD card are working properly, brilliant! The fault was an original error on the internal SD card, this error corrupted my external SD card.
As it was a known issue by Samsung, the service was free.
Kies does NOT fix the problem when you upgrade, it keeps the currupted file as it doesn't replace ALL the files, whereas the engineer completely replaces ALL files.
As this was a problem for me, I'm sure there are others experiencing the same problem.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.
The problem IS the card. If you use manufacturer brands, like Kingston, Sandisk, Toshiba, which make their own products and have quality control, you will have no problems.
"Generic brands" like Patriot don´t manufacture their cards, but order them from third party suppliers, and being nothing more than resale companies, they buy cheap from their chinese vendors, to be able to sell cheap. They have no quality control and no control over their third party vendors.
PS I use Kingston class 4 8GB cards in my mini pro with no problems whatsoever

hi all ive read a few quotes from you all about sd cards and the problems you have had, im after buying two sd cards a 128mb just to store music on and a 512mb for media files / dvds/ films on. the question is what card or cards would you recommend as there are so many out there and some do not work or you have had problems working, your feed back is most welcome
I have a 256Mb Lexar with 32x write.....
Regardless of what card you buy, I've heard complaints about data being erased from the card on the WM2003 OS.... Its really annoying.... It has happened to me too.... So I just keep the card locked....
Apart from that, no complaints with the Lexar card I have.... works like a charm.... All the cards that are out there are good.... Lexar and Sandisk seem to be the more popular ones....
Hi, I've just got a Kingston 512MB SD card, are they any good? I do not have my XDA II as yet but am hoping to get it some time this week (waiting on stock )
I am getting very slow speeds on my SD card, even in a SD card reader in Windows XP a few friends have also reported the same problems of speed changes and slowing down... any ideas?
I also want to buy a Kinston 256 for my XDA running on WM2003. ANy comments on the speed or reliability of Kingston? I also have eyes on Viking and Smart coz they are the cheaper ones. Any comments on those brands?
Unfortunatly I have not been able to get my hands on any others, but the Kingstone ones seems to be working with no trouble what so ever so looks goot but not sure how fast they are ment to run or any thing like that so can't offer much information unfortunatly...
Can any one shed some light on the subject for us????
there are tons of sd card benchmarks and comparisons just search google
http://www.google.dk/search?q=sd+flash+benchmark&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=da&btnG=Google-søgning
from that search i found this
http://www.core-sound.com/CF-and-SD-mass-storage-comparison.html
Thanks for the links
I've been through google a bit but there is so much out there I was wondering if any one found any decent ones that are well laid out with graphs and all... comparing many brands of SD...
well i would search on these 2 sites i recall a test of what you are looking for just with CF cards i'm not sure if a company's CF card speed give an impression of their SD card speed or if they also have SD card banchmarks but anyway (sandisk were always last when it comes to speed )

Hello,
I'm now on my second 16GB micro SDHC card, the first one by CoreMicro, and this one by A-Data and both are having the same problem. My Rhodium, with a stock rom, will stop detecting the card after a random period of time, or really quickly if a program is constantly accessing the memory card, such as with music or an audio book.
This has never happened with my 8gb Transcent micro SDHC card, and since its happened twice with cards from 2 different manufacturers, i'm thinking its not the cards, but the Rhodium itself.
Does anyone know of anything that might be causing this problem or how to fix it?

Regards.
Thank you for that. I guess we can add 2 more brands that dont work: A-Data and CoreMicro. Sigh...
Did you format the card accordingly?
Google panasonic sd format. Use that program as it formats the card correctly using the correct allocations.

I have been using a 16 gb A-Data as well, on my VZN (CDMA) TP2 without problems.

My A-Data 16GB class 6 card caused no problems in normal use or with Navigon 7. The problems only occured in MP3 playback, but for that use where very reproducible.

Good I just bought one. Decided to buy it over the transcend although my transcend 8gb worked better than my adata 8gb. Seems to be the opposite going on by what people have been saying on the thread. Will check back in if there is a problem with it.
I have been using a RiData 16 GB Class 6 for over a month without a problem on a Telus TP2
I would think it is a problem with the TP2.
I used my Adata 16GbC6 in the TP2 and had problems. Stuck it in my Canon camera and had no problems with it at all.
RMAed replacement arrives from AData today. Will see if I did in fact have a fault card. Doubt it.
I have a Verizon TP2 and am using an A-Data 16GB class 6 card with no problems. Heck, I didn't even format it before use.
I am having similar problems with a sandisk 16 GB class 2 on a Verizon TP 2. I'd like to try a newer Sandisk however to see whether that helps it. I can't find any class 6 Sandisks though. Are they not out yet?
I had a sandisk 16gb card which was fine, but somehow it got corrupted so I bought an ADATA card. it works fine EXCEPT I CANNOT flash roms off it. my device doesnt see it at bootup. very strange (so I have to install ROMS off an older card).
Any thoughts anyone?

YuP to quote myself...
I can confirm that I am having the same problems with my a-data 16 gig card class 6..
Problem: Can't flash from sd card with 8 gig nor from the 16 gig class 6.
The transcend card and sandisk it works like it should.
Anyone else have this problem from a-data
Hi
I bought a 4gig MicroSD and would like to know the steps to update the SD please
Update?
All you need to do is take off the back, pull out the old card, and plug in the new one.
If you want to keep the contents of the old card, just drag the contents to your PC first, then swap the card, and copy the contents back.
update = install a bigger one
tx
take the old out
put the new in =D
thats all you need to do
Now that the mini has been updated to 2.1, are 32 Gig cards supported?
Some initial information was added to http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Xperia_X10_Mini_MicroSD_Cards
You should turn off the phone OR unmount the SDCard before remove it.
TX .. I thought there was some wierd partitioning and formatting and so.
tx to all the help

i hope not because i just bought 16gb class 4 from ebay for £14 ( around $28 )
Ill have to give this to my girlfriend if it does coz i need the biggest possible
Seems like you will have to go shopping again. At least for the X10 the 16Gig limit is replaced with a 32Gig limit. At least if I can believe this page:
h t t p : //gadgets.apnafundaz.com/20 10/09/xperia-x10-whi tepaper-revision-6-for-andr oid-2-1-eclair-no-16m-color-adobe-flash-mu lti-touch-and-more/
Though the link is a bit old. So I was hoping that maybe somebody here had already tried this. As I would rather spend my money on a 32 Gig card then buy a 16 Gig card and hear that I could have got double that.. ;-)
Didn't you guys get the fancy card reader with your E10s/U20s?
I bought my E10i on the launching day and in the box was that USB MicroSD-card reader.
Using it is easy to put your contents of your old MicroSD to a folder on your computer. Either temporary (to move it to the new mSD) or as back-up.
Don't remember it's SE name (have mislayed it as I used the reader and 2GB card that came with X10Mini, for installing Ubuntu on a EeePC 701)
Well.. I didn't get a micro SD reader with my kit in Germany..(I had a couple laying around which I was using but they have both died.. I don't know how a reader seems to just keel over and die.. seems something strange happened on an eject in Linux and now they are dead... tried all sorts of things to resurect them. (Linux detects them.. windows too but the reader doesn't detect any micro SD cards I throw at it.... oh well.
on a brighter note.. I just found an A-Data 16GB Class 10 card for under 30 Euro's its at Jacob Elektronics (there is another 7Euro for sending but still a cheap Class 10 card (if it's a real A-Data Class 10 card, my experience of the A-Data brand has been pretty good.. its a reputable brand and the website/shop seems legit.)
I am convinced it will not be any faster than a class 2 card for general use but the transfers between phone and PC will be super quick and for the price.. why not go for the fastest available?
I will let you all know how it turns out.. if it arrives.

I think the A-Data cards will be fine.
Got a full size A-Data SDHC in my camera 8GB class 6.
just a simple swap with phone switched off.
When I upgraded my contract phone to the mini pro, it was bundled with a 2gb card. I told the operator I'd seen a similar deal on a different network only they were shipping with an 8gb card, not a 2gb.
For my cheek, my phone arrived with an 8gb free of charge
You don't ask, you don't get
and also a spare sd card reader too! (now I have 5 )
Well after waiting over a week for the damn Adata 16GB Class 10 card to turn up I finally got hold of the company who said.. " it may be another 3 weeks because of a supply issue" funny as they said they were in stock when I ordered it.
anyway.. I canceled my order (as I am moving back to New Zealand in 2 weeks) and just bought a Sandisk 16GB Class 4 from Conrad electronics for 36 Euro.. meh.. at least its Sandisk so I trust it not to die after a few weeks use..

Good news. Earlier there was some thread in this forum stating that 32 GB doesn't work in Mini - probably while it was on Android 1.6. How is the access speed ? Is it satisfactory?
ye i wanne update to 32GB too, but thinkin about class2 or class3, so any infos here?

I've looked around for 32Gb card, and the only I found where class 2. I'm sure that cards of higher class will be become available, but at the moment I know of none.
im using 16gb class 2.. all apps on there.. working good to me
Taking delivery of my phone soon.
What's the latest on microSD cards?
Are 32GB worth it? Do they work?
Any particular minimum Class I should get, even if I have to get 16GB?
Thanks

am using class 6 works fine.
I use an 8Gb, class 4 without any issues. Resco is installed on the card.
Although if your going to flash a ROM from a micro SD card use one < 8Gb.
Thanks,
Al
From my experience, it's not the class or size that matters. It's the make. (Obviously a smaller card with a higher class will have faster r/w speeds, but that's not usually a noticeable issue.)
I never buy any SD cards now that are not SanDisk, and I can't remember the last time I had one that didn't work.
Some brands seem to get a lot of complaints.
The class wouldn't really matter if you're just using it to store data/apps.
I use a Nokia N900 and run Android off the SD card. A higher class gives a better speed when running an O/S off of one. But using one to store data/apps wouldn't give a noticable advantage of one class than another.
Obviously the size does matter but depends on what you'll use it for.
Plus for flashing use < 8Gb.
Thanks,
Al
PS. I agree with the brands. I don't buy cheap non-branded ones. Although I've never had an issue with any of the 'cheap' ones.
The size of the card depends on your needs. If you cram a lot of stuff in there or apps, then aim for 16gb or 32gb.
You can find 32gb on amazon from $70 up (sandisk, kingston, dane elec -- those are deem legit 32gb cards) and most of them should give real class 4 performance (even when they're listed as class 2 like sandisk).
For me I like San Disk, but I want to test Toshiba 16GB Class4.The seller told me that Toshiba quality is good also and I decided to buy it.
Never had any problem with file transfer and running android on SD card.
I've used it 4 months now.So far so good.
I use a kingston 8gb class 4.. Never had any issues with performance
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I'll probably run Android off the card initially with the standard WM 6.5 tweaked. Maybe put some SatNav on there too.
As for Apps depends what I come across. For WM I have an old large build of offline Wikipedia and some dictionaries etc.

I had my 8GB SanDisk in my G1 for 2 years, then my HD2 for about 8 months, then randomly one day it stopped working.
If I plugged it in, all of my content appeared on the phone such as pictures. Then after about 30 seconds it would freeze, and then the phone would say no SD card is inserted. I managed to copy all of my pictures across on the PC luckily before it froze.
Granted it was old - but they do fail after a while.
is it ok to buy 16 gb sd card for my mini not pro
i mean that the won't be slow ....etc ?
it is ok, i have an x10mini too, and i'm using a 16gb sdcard in it, and it's working very fine and fast, so just go buy it and enjoy
Here another 16GB SD card user.
For me its perfect, I have no feeling that it slow down or something
i got a new 16GB SDHC card couple of weeks ago, but since then my phone sometimes restarted itself, and some apps is running very bad, particularly Waze (it's a GPS programm). I tried to format the card with the PC and phone also, but still same results. I had a 2GB card, and had no any problem it all...
Any ideas what may be the problem?
Thank you in advance
I'm using 16 GB card, and my phone is speed. It's no slowest xD
Can you tell me please what card exactly do you use?
Thank you

i tryed a sandisk 16gb too but restarts alwasy
after buying a new one from kingston class 4 it works perfectly
sry for bad english
I have A-data 16GB sdhc 10 class and when i copy my files and i extract from the pc my phone don't recognize my memory and when i insert one more time and say my pc that the memory don't have format and i have to format one more time. Someone can i help me?
try formatting the block size to 32KB
An sd card does not need to be formated only hdd do... What couldve hapend is that your boot sector got screwed up. Try putting your sd card in an card reader and connect it to the pc. On windows 7 go to start type cmd and hit enter. Then type: chkdsk /X /F /A:, where A: is your card reader. Hit enter and wait. I revived a couple SD Card by this method. Without losing any data!
***Ignore this***
Edited for clarity.
I have a Class4 16 gb card. Worked well so far.
Guys - Can we lose the personal criticism here - this thread is bang on the money with a problem I'm really struggling with and I'd hate for the thread just to become a shouting match.
My daughters x10 Mini Pro (running latest paul-xxx version of CM7) is just refusing to play nicely with a Sandisk 8Gig Class 4 SDHC which has prviously worked perfectly in a Samsung Genio.
On the 8 Gig card music jumps between tracks as you are listening , apps moved to SD Card refuse to run, photos save OK and will open once in Gallery but then the jpgs get corrupted and cannot be reopened on the phone or when transfered to a PC.... and to crown it all I get random reboots/freezes.
If I drop back to an old Kingston 2 Gig Micro-SD (ie non-SDHC) everything on the phone works fine and yet when I format the 8Gig card on my PC, there are never any errors and I can then copy files on and off the card (via the card reader in the PC) multiple times with no issues.
Is this just a somewhat more extreme example of other peoples experiences or would you suspect my micro SD is b*ggered?
I suspect that this "quality" Sony phone is just so sensitive to SDHC cards that I need to get one which others can confirm works reliably and stick to it.
For now my daughter is content to run with the 2 Gig card and have a stable, working phone but obviously she'd like to carry more than a dozen Albums and Apps at any time.
Any advice?
