How do I know i have installed xrecovery correctly? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed xRecovery Installer... and when I go into the xrecovery installer icon, and press install xrecovery, my phone asked for root rights, and after I give permission nothing happened... Is there going to be a new icon for xrecovery or its just a program that runs in the background and will not add an extra icon? I'm also suspecting that I did not install xRecovery correctly because I tried to boot into xrecovery by restarting the phone and press back button 11 times ( I assume that the back button is the right of the 3 buttons) but nothing happened. How would I know if I had installed xrecovery correctly? What is the current version of xrecovery? the one I have is 0.2 release. Thanks for the help!!

think you didn't install it correctly
inside here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9561641
I'd recommend you to follow these steps
Manual Installation:
- Download the apk, rename it to xRecovery-0.2-release.ZIP
- Unpack the file, find ./res/raw folder inside. It should contain 3 files (chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar)
- copy these 3 files into /system/bin using root explorer (remember to remount /system rw
those worked for me, auto installation doesn't work all the time

try rebooting your phone and press the back key a few times whilst it's booting.. if you've installed it, the recovery menu will appear.

when you reboot the phone after the sony ericsson boot screen keep pressing the volume down key or the back key

How do I copy the files in to /system/bin? I connected the phone, mounted it, and in the sd card I cannot find /system/bin. Please help! Thanks!

try the automatic installation!
is safer.
that reboot and tap the back button.
it will work.

Tehouster

Another tip too, make sure that you have busybox installed from the market

By automatic installation, it means that I just copy the apk files to my phone's memory card, and run it from there right? and after the apk install the xrecovery installation icon, I just press on that and everything should be good?

you copy the one .apk file and start it with one of the file managers.
install it, start xRecovery, tap install.
reboot, tap the back button several times.

woooo it worked. Thanks all.

make sure you have restarted the phone

turn phone off and when the "sony ericsson" white text comes up repeatedly hit the back button (right button) and u go into xrecovery

im facing the similar prob. i cant load xrecovery after installation.

Make sure you installed busybox from the market. That was my problem. But after I installed another copy of busybox from the market, it fixed everything! Hope it helps! Good luck!

Apparently i'm too stupid to get this working. (That, or it just doesn't work on my Xperia X10.) But i know the xRecovery files are in the system\bin folder, i triple checked.
Even moved them in manually replacing the ones in there. Reinstalled BusyBox from market so it's running 1.7.1, AND i keep holding the back button down on boot of the phone, but to no avail it seems, nothing happens.
It goes from the white SE logo, to the swirly colors, and then to the SE logo with the bubble above it. And i kept holding Back down the entire time...

Didnt work either. And yes i'm pressing the right button. ._.'
Still goes from SE logo, to swirly colors, to SE logo with bubble above it, to Android. No xRecovery at all.

Try the automatic installation(if you didn't use it already)

I did that as well as try manual after it. Still can't get the darn thing started.
Edit: And out of the blue, it works.. >.o

I'm having the same problem
what I've noticed is that when I've got the 1.17.1 busybox installed, after the xrecovery installation it reverts back to 1.15.3
I've tried with both 1.17.1 and 1.15.3 with no success

merely seeing those 'greens' is no guarantee you have installed Xrecovery successfully--I think you may not have not done it yet.
Read the post at this link carefully and follow instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878426
Best wishes.
........do press the thanks button if this helps.........
Don't update your busybox, keep it at the original 1.15 (i think thats what it was) 1.19 stuffed things up for me, also couldn't get into recovery!
If you have not figured this out yet, connect your phone to pc and use flashtool to install xrecovery and reboot to xrecovery from flashtool menu.

Hi...
just install the latest busybox with busybox installer from the market
then install xRecovery X10i Mini (E10i) not the 0.3 this version will not work
restart your phone and press back if the Se logo appears
i will attach this version of xrecovery for you
try pressing the back button simultaneously after reboot. Don't wait for the sony ericsson word logo appear. I tried that when I made 2 or 3 reboots without going to xRecovery when I first tried to root my phone and it didn't fail me xD
1. man it's simple download adb mask controller
2. to your mobile go to settings->applications->development-> check usb debugging
3.connect your mobile to pc
4. open adb mask controller (attached below)
5. press check conncection
6. at the "Main" tab check "install" and then press "Push busybox"
7. at the "Push and Pull" tab check "/system/bin" then press "browse", select one of the three xrecovery file and then press "send" (xrecovery files included in the attachment)
8. do the same for the two remaing xrecovery files
9. at last reboot and press a lot times the back button
10. Voila xrecovery

Hi Guys,
I have a HTC Desire GSM and a Xperia X10i.
I have already using LeeDroid Gingerbread custom ROM on my HTC Desire and now working on Xperia X10i.
Rooting the Xperia X10i is straight forward using Single 1 Click 1.9 and does all the tricks. However, working on XRecovery on Xperia X10i needs some tricks and I have found those posts above useful.
Thank you so much guys. I have managed to install the XRecovery on third attempts, and now by the time I am writing this comment I should have backup the entire stock ROM & Apps + seetings.
My first aim to load CM7 for the Xperia 10i
Happy rooting & set my Xperia freeeeeee

[q] help!!! My se xperia mini almost dead!!

I rooted my xperia mini x10 with superoneclick. After that i installed titanium backup and terminal emulater. I installed (with aais) xrecovery and after that enabled JIT. I make a backup with xrecovery.
FIRST PROBLEM: After that i want to enable app2sd.................
A lot of programms dissapear, like Market, titanium backup, terminal emulator, rootexplorer and xrecovery.
So i cant restore with xrecovery
I can't install from sd card because my market is gone so i can't download a root explorer.
I can't install from for example gmail because i cant open the market to install a app for opening attachments.
SOLUTION 1: After that I saw I still had the web browser. So i downloaded an root explorer with the webbrowser. And with the root explorer i installed titanium backup and terminal emulator again. An after that with the terminal emulator i installed xrecovery again. So i've restored again.
PROBLEM 2: After that i installed all my apps again (NOT APP2SD and also not enable JIT). Everything works. But after booting, there was an error in de homescreen an it keep looping.
So again i couldn't open my apps anymore. Again xrecovery didn't work anymore.
SOLUTION 2: I also installed advanced task killer. So i have this app icon in the upper left side of my screen. With this app i could open the market and with the market i could open terminal emulator en reinstall xrecovery.
So again I installed all my apps. After that the phone works very well.
PROBLEM 3: During the night the phone is always charging. Since i root my phone it isn't possible anymore to power off the phone and charge it.
This morning i started my phone an again it can't open the homescreen and it keeps looping.
I shut down my phone, boot it with xrecovery and try to restore with an new image i made the day before after i installed all my apps again.
Normally that proces takes a couple of minutes. This time it says to be completed after a very short time. I boot again and after that the phone doesn't come further than the white SE logo.
Can power off but after a few secs it starts up again. And can't open xrec anymore.
Also the battery wouldn’t charge further than 10%. From that it stops charging
NO SOLUTION 3:
• I've tried "install xrecovery for mini through adb, but when i typed adb shell it says: no device found.
• When I running SEUS i have the newest software and can't reinstall the latest firmware (normally i can in case of a problem)
• With pc companion you have to slice you start up screen down en connect with pc companion. THis is nog possible because the phone doesn´t get further than de white se logo. See there is also an reparation option and when i use that it says it can´t install all parts of the installation and stops installing
* flashtool also don't work
14/023/2011 21:23:45 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted

I'm afraid the only way right now is to buy i new phone???????????
Hope someone still can help.
HELP HELP HELP HELP
Hmmm I guess they have changed the SEUS...
Anyways, AAIS script has few problems with app2sd, I've modded AAIS script to get it working... I myself got problem with app2sd that aais installed... I lost the superuser access, btw I guess u forgot to partition ur SDcard, apps2sd script requires that their should be a ext2 partition ALREADY PRESENT!!!
Well in ur case, u cant boot into recovery well sometimes I feel so but then I try it again, keep on hitting back button just after I press the power button, u can try that too.
Also look for a previous version of SEUS(as I think new version is having this latest firmware thinggyy), I'll post mine but I can do thats only after 17th!
Just to let u know, theres an option repair in PC companion use that! It wont ask u to turn on!
* i first did the sd card partitioning, so that can't be the problem.
* Repair option in pc companion also don't work
* I start my phone alreadey a hundreds time with pushing the back button but NO xrecovery
I'm going to try an older version of SEUS. I let you know if that works
I downloaded an older version of SEUS. But it first updates to the newest SEUS version before you can use it
Seus works when you just hold back while the phone is off and then plug in usb it has never failed me nor pc companion

U dnt just have to push the back button!
1)Long press the power button
2)Just after it vibraters, press-release-press-release.......the back button, i'm sure u'll get into recovery!
No the only way to get into xrecovery on a brick is when your in charge mode hold power it used to boot xrec it might be fixed now but you can't from the se logo on a brick
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
the only way is try to flash it again with Update Service (hold BACK and plug in)
or try to flash with x10 flash tool
if i were you
gud luk
btw, try to unplug the battery by taking off the back case, there's a cable power plug from the battery to the phone, use something (nail) to PULL it UP, wait a sec then push it back, i think the power still on, not really shutdown, hope this help (sorry for my bad english)

You sure we cant? Coz I have always booted into recovery like that and it worked on bricked mini pro too?
None of the above works. The battery loads only for a 10%. An stops loading after that. You can't shut down the phone it reboots after a couple of seconds. So i also think the battery can't realy shutdown. Sunday i have a torx screwdriver so i can try to unplug the battery. I let you know if it works.
Thanks so far
I finally had the right screwdriver. I tried a couple of things, each time after i first unmount the battery:
1. Flashtool didn't work. It ask to enable usb debugging and that is not possible
2. SEUS says there is no new software
3. PC companion, i go to the repair option and it says there is no software for your phone
4. Reboot by long press the power button and when the SE logo appears try push the back button, release, press, release. But this also didn't work
More options to try??????????
bring it to customer care center, the last thing you can do
I've already tried but they said they can't help if the phone is rooted
So this mean.....bye bye xperia mini x10???
I'm sure something can be done about this! I've to test it on my mini pro, wait! Lets see what happens!
I hope so!!!!! I still wait a while.
Toy toy toy!!!

In the past there was an repair option but that isn't anymore.

Xperia S stuck in CWM loop

I hope this is in the right section, don't know as I am new to XDA.
But I have a real issue. Here goes.
I recently updated my Xperia S to ICS. And I thought I want to root it.
So I went ahead and started, but when I should have placed a zip file on my internal memory, I extracted the files there instead.
So no, on CWM, when I am supposed to install from .zip file, I can't, since I do not have .zip file there.
I have tried almost all of the options on CWM on the phone, nothing works and I just get back to the start.
So my question is, how do I get out of the loop?
Is there any way I can access my phones files? So I maybe can put the SuperSU .zip file in the directory?
I can boot the phone in fastboot mode, but then it doesn't show on the computer.
Or maybe I can just reverse everything? An easy way, because I am not the best when it comes to this. I have found some solutions, but they ALL require that you put files on your SD card. Only problem is that my phone doesn't have SD card, only internal memory. ANd I can't access that right now.
Please help
Download Flashtools from http://androxyde.github.com/
Download a stock ftf rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599303
Put the downloaded rom in the flashtool/firmwares/ folder, then go to flashtool/drivers/ folder and run Flashtool-drivers.exe, when that has finished restart your computer.
Turn phone off, now press and hold the volume down button and connect the phone to your computer with the usb cable, when you get a green led you can let go, you are now in flash mode.
Start up flashtool, or flashtool64 if your on an x64 system, click the thunderbolt icon in the top left corner, select flashmode and click ok, in the left hand window select the rom you downloaded and then click ok in the bottom right corner.

Is your Bootloader unlocked?
Hello, I'm having the same problem too, but I wonder how do I "turn off" the device, since I keep pressing the top button to do this and it reboots and goes into CWM mode? Will I have to remove the battery?
Good news. Luckily I managed turn off the device. In the CWM main menu, keep the cursor positioned over the option that resets the device. Hold down the power button and immediately after, press the volume up and hold. Wait until the device vibrates 3 times. Now ready you run the procedure to connect in download mode and reinstall your firmware.

Nothing to worry... Happened to me too.
Use flashtool to reflash entire ftf(if you have ulbl) else use SEUS to repair (if you have lbl, I hate pcc!).

Use cmd to flash a custom kernel(don't use doom kernel its for gb).
Finished....

Had a similar problem.. FIxed it with a lot of reading but now dnt remeber anymore :/
I'm having this problem too...
Almost everything is ready for flashing now, except the phone is not really turning off, even after 3 vibrates when holding down power and volume up... It turns off, but coming back in flash process!
That's how far I can go: It turns off, I hold down volume down, connect it to PC, have a green light. Flashtool see the phone, I push Flash button,Program gives "Device connected in flash mode" message, then "Selected Xperia s (LT26i)_WORLD_6,1,A,2,50_IT.flf" message, "Preparing files for flashing" message and "Device disconnected" message, because this stupid Recovery back on my screen again...
If I just can find the way to turn off my phone, so it's not come back to live when connected to PC...

SOLVED!
I manage to fix it!
Just wait for Flashtool to give error message (with phone picture and USB cable in it) and ask to reconnect device. Unplug device, press power button and volume up button until vibrate 3 times. Push volume down and plug usb cable, to get green light. Flashtool continue process from where it was broken.
Error message popped up not from first try, so hopefully this will be helpful to somebody...

Issues after factory reset: No recovery, no root, no home button returning to desktop

Hi there,
Some weeks ago, after many months of low space problems, I did a factory reset instead of deleting app by app.
But after that, I started having some problems:
Home button doesn't returns to Home, but it still works for mousing off the screen when it's off
Recory is missing
I give apps root, but they don't turn root.
The home button ... well, I can survive without. The Recovery... I haven't used it since I installed it. But the root is very important, as I want to use many apps but I need root to use them.
So well, let's try another factory reset. But nothing changes. So... let's change the ROM. But hey! I need recovery for that...
I haved tried many times to root or unroot the mobile, but it doesn't works. I have done it using many ways in Windows and Ubuntu, but nothing works.
Do you have any ideas about how can I fix this problems?

To install recovery use xparts from playstore!
Or if your bl is unlocked then flash any kernel using fastboot! Every kernel with itself has an inbuilt recovery!

I managed to access recovery. And I installed a ROM, hoping that it could repair easily all my problems, plus upgrading my phone at the same time. I installed this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1880321
I downloaded all the .zips I saw, and thinking that I could merge all them into a single one, I did. I though that this was the way to do it.
I did a backup of the phone, and erased cache, dalvik and did a factory reset. I installed the merged .zip, and after reboot:
The phone boots, the "Sony Ericsson" screen lasts for a few seconds, then I get a black screen for a few seconds, and the "Sony Ericsson" screen appears again, to dissapear, and keeps looping indefinitely.
I have been trying for a while, but I'm unable to boot the Recovery or even the Download mode. Maybe I don't know how? What I do:
Press power until it boots, wait until Sony Ericsson logo appears, start pressing Vol Down again and again <-- This worked for me earlier for accessing recovery before installing the zip
Hold power, home, and Vol Down (When doing this, after each 10 seconds (after the Sony Ericsson logo fades away, the mobile vibrates shortly, like when powering it off)
Hold power, home, and Back
Hold power and back
Hold and Vol up
Have I bricked it? How could I repair this for installed each zip one by one?
Guess that by now, I'll have to search my wristwatch.
To Enter Recovery:
You have to press back key again and again while booting(on Sony logo appears).
To Download mode:
Power off the phone.
Then plug the usb while pressing back key.
To Fastboot mode:
Power off the phone.
Then plug the usb while pressing menu key.
To Install a stock rom:
Download a Stock rom.
Then flash it via Flashtool.
or
Use PC Companion to repair.

This was the solution. I though that it was some ****ty software that wouldn't work properly, but I have to say that it's intuitive, and have repaired my phone without problems.
Thanks a lot. This have returned my phone to the state of after-buy, which is why I did the factory reset that made so much problems. Thanks!

[Q] Xperia Pro unable to flash + bricked

Hi everyone,
i bought a second hand Xperia Pro which came wih Lupus Kernel and Ultimate HD rom. Now I wanted to try the stock firmware for comparison but i can't flash it.
I've followed several guides and searched on the forum with no luck. what i've done is basically
- installed flashtool, latest version
- downloaded the stock firmware and put the .tft in the firmware folder
- open the driver installer from the driver folder in flashtool and selecting fastboot, flashmode and xperia pro drivers to install
- click on the flash icon, select the correct firmware, click flash
- when the window with the animation asks for it i press and hold the volume down button and attach the usb cable. I keep pressing the button and the lupus logo appears, then nothing happen and the window with the usb cable animation goes on
i've tried several times and also on different computers... and... to get thing worse, i've just bricked my xperia :s after several attempts, a menu apeared on the display (i have no idea why, i must have done something different from the previous attempts) i think it was called lupus cwm. One of the options was about wiping the phone... i've tried with that one, then he asked me "Root access is missing. Root Device? This cannot be undone" and I choosed yes... not very wise to choose yes or no when you don't know what you are talking aobut, i know
So basically if i try to turn the phone freezes on the lupus logo and i have to pull the battery out. And, no need to say it, nothing has changed when it comes to trying to flash it with flashtool
any help will be much appreciated, i really don't know what else i could try now...

You did all the steps to flash the stock firmware ftf like it should be done! Please try to take off the battery, wait a few seconds, reinsert it and press and hold volume down while connecting the usb. A green led should light up and it should start flashing

thanks for your help. I've tried removing the battery but it's just the same. A blue led, not green, turns on for a couple of seconds on my xperia pro... i've recorded a short video so you can check that i'm doing everything properly...
OUCH i can't insert links :s youtube .com/ watch?v=_hIZMn9HrlA
so you think it's not a problem if i have bricked the phone wiping off the firmware? the flashing procedure should work the same?
MUAHHAHA got it!!! my phone is finally flashed! i was just pressing the wrong button :s even if all the guides specific for xperia pro were saying to pross the volume down button, i had to press the BACK button! and the led did turn on green indeed, as you were saying
just another question: what happened when that CWM menu asked me "Root access is missing. Root Device? This cannot be undone" and I choosed yes? does that mean i rooted the phone? and is it stil rooted or it's been overwritten by the original firmware i have just flashed?
thanks

I'm sorry, I forgot the thing about the back button instead of volume down, too
If you have an unlocked bootloader, your phone normally should automatically be rooted when you flash a custom kernel as (nearly) all kernels for our devices include this feature. But as you have flashed the stock firmware now, all was overwritten and you have to flash another custom kernel to get cwm back
ok, thanks a lot
