Umm. This will likely be a longer port than a day or so The N1 is a different resolution, and we need to get drivers sorted.
Maybe it will be done some time, but people are only just starting work on this

If you go in the CDMA Hero forum, you can see that there is yet a port of froyo. Sorry for my english
But are the drivers the same as the ones from 2.1 roms

and (correct me if wrong), but sources will eventually / soon hit the Android git's, and it's easier to build that stuff from source than trying to modify a ROM that's build for a way different device.
Not that it can't be done... but I think a lot of devs are still busy playing with kernels and optimized sense leaks, instead of trying hard to mod a Nexus-Froyo ROM, only to have sources available the moment you're done .
Froyo can run on the .29 kernel, so the drivers shouldn't be a problem.

I did a search before posting, but if this is the official update, has anyone tried it and have any problems?

No problems here, but I had to use Odin to flash over stock 2.1 because kies mini did not work for me.
I'm not following, you had to flash over 2.1 with Odin to get the update?
I'm still running stock Eclair (2.1. update 1), I'm assuming I wouldn't have to flash anything and I would just simply need to do the update?
Thanks.
Why do you want the official 2.2? I tried it for about 5 min and regreted doing so. The custom roms available here are way better in my opinion.

some people had problems when using kies mini. kies mini simply would not recognize the phone attached to pc. an article somewhere reported that it is due to the fact that people have not registered their phones on samsung website. for me kies mini worked perfectly and it should work flawlessly for you as well as long as you have samsung usb drivers installed and operate the software properly.
of course there are many greater roms out here, and i would never go back to stock.. but if you want to try stock rom first and learn what's different, try registering your phone on samsung website first and run kies mini.

I don't doubt it at all, it's just that there are a gazillion and one ROMS out there and for a noob like me, it's a bit overwhelming. Not knowing what ROM to flash and then there's the issue of going back to stock if I ever wanted to.
I haven't managed to sift through and find my stock ROM here. JV16.
In case something happens, I'd like to know that I can revert back to stock and not worry about not having a working phone.
So all in all, I really want to, but I guess I'm just so chicken .... you know what. lol
Well, you can always do the 2.2 official update if you are afraid of custom roms, just pay attention to EVERY step before and during flash. I'm using myself stock 2.2 because I'm still waiting for unlock code from Tmo, after that I'm definitely going custom
hi,
I have looked at the helpful topics quite alot, but i still can not figure out how to flash stock ROMs (such as the recently leaked 2.3.4 KG2 one) in MacOS. Odin is windows specific, and there seems to be no substitute for it (or is it?). i figured out that some modified roms can be flashed through CWM, and I am currently rooted by cf4.0 (used a friend's laptop for that), but is there any work around apart from buying windows and installing on macbook? also, since i am rooted, does this mean that when the 2.3.4 gets official, i won't be able to update through Kies mac?
many thanks in advance

Yes it works for the sgs2. However, I would recommend just using Odin via bootcamp
i want to root my samsung galaxy s wifi 5.0 (i think its EUR version im not shure)
i want to root it so i can upgrade to the newest version of android so please if you can give me a guid for root and how to upgrade to the newest version of android (im sooooooo nooob).
and one more thing is that im looking for a rom that will be fast and will not take a lot of battery.so if you can please give me a download link for this rom and a guid.
thanks for all the helpers and sorry that im total noob and need for everything a guid.
information about the device if its help:
model number:YP-G70
firmware version:2.2.2
kernel version:2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
build number:foryro.jkke3
Edit: Looks like your still running froyo 2.2 so use Kies to try and update to gingerbread 2.3.5 first (unless you just want to use custom roms)
I rooted my 5.0 last evening this way on a windows computer running XP...
Download and install the samsung program "Kies" (will install the necessary drivers). Open it so that it can update if need be. Close it down and reboot the computer.
Download and unzip a program called "SuperOneClick" (latest version)
Now in your device - set the screen "timeout" to 10 minutes or longer.
- put a checkmark in "unknown sources" and "usb debugging mode"
Open Kies so that it is running and then plug in your device using the usb cable. Kies should then detect your device.
Now run the superoneclick program. Be patient as it stops and goes. Took about 5 minutes to complete for me and have since tested it with an app that requires root.
Keep in mind there's always some risk doing this but it worked great for my SMP 5.0.

i upgraded from froyo to gingerbread 2.3.5 like 6 months ago. it was all done through Kies. mind you, my froyo was rooted and Kies still upgraded it. so the first part, upgrade to 2.3.5, is very official, it HAS to work.
if it doesnt, means u do something wrong there and u have to tell us more details about what actions u perform or samsung doesnt provide upgrade to 2.3.5 in your country, which is kinda weird since they are working towards ICS-4.0 nowadays.
Install Samsung Kies on your computer from samsung.com, it will install the drivers also.
go to Settings - Wireless and Network - USB settings and select Samsung Kies before attaching to computer.
once attached wait for Kies to connect then its kinda easy.
USB Debugging mode u find in Settings-Applications-Development -> u will need it later for root.
Ok i did it i update to 2.3.5(not from kies i found a guid in te internet)
But how i root with one superclick?
And do you know how to do OC to the device?
I found a Youtube guide here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA4bw8bU4T4 There's also lots of threads about rooting 2 topics down here at XDA. Just a little confusing since there are so many "versions". I see too many "bricked" threads, and have not found reason enough to root yet. My 5.0 is smooth, fast and beautiful just as she is.

u dont need drivers if kies installed correctly.
may i ask why u need rooted device? u mentioned OC but are u sure u want OC? the device as tcat007 said, its smooth and fast enough.
there are some good custom rom's around for your device, maybe u need one of those not only root.
to answer your question, should be ok to root with SuperOneClick 2.3.1 + zergRush exploit, since i used that on 2.3.5 in late november 2011

i root it(yay!).and i used tegrak overclock to overclock it but how i know if it did overclock?idk if i did everything right...and my device temp is 18 C is it ok?
and which rom is fast but doesnt take a lot of battery?
i have this device somthing like 5 months and it is very slow so i want to do OC.
i need rooted device because i want to install faster rom and to use some apps that need rooted device
the only thing that i tested and can recommend is Meticulus's ROM. since u have international version, u'll need rumirand's kernel. all info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458325
use setCPU or CPU tuner for OC, as an app. and if u burn it, so be it
cant believe u say its a slow device. compared with what? fyi, OC will eat your battery faster anyway.

Well... I can answer your question by saying that if you load any of the custom roms, they are pre-rooted so you won't have to worry about rooting your device. Look at my signature. I have the Eryigits 2.0 Rom... It's nice and my battery life is excellent.
Just download the rom and use Odin3 Flash... do a search for Odin3... download the rom... connect your device in Download mode plug into your PC and flash... done in 5 mins... GB 2.3.6 rooted... Enjoy...

i cant really say that is same with ipod or sgs 2. imo, u cant compare with sgs 2 the difference between them is 350usd or more. so spend more if u want more. comparing with ipod, its much better - bigger screen, high level of customization available. i think u talking only games and here i cant help with a valid opinion. but its a very good value for its price and u can do lots with it. gaming always required last procs, last graphic cards, newest model of this and that. if ur passion is gaming, top notch performance will always come with a high price - thats how gaming always was - PC's or XBOX's or PSx's.
back to your issue, no rom u will dwl and flash will get u such a faster experience you are looking for. both erygit and meticulus are based on a chinese one, 2.3.6, which is good and stable. moreover, since rooted and having the added value of customized software, u are presented with a wider range of options to manipulate in order to meet your desire. u can set the governor to ondemand or higher, u can overclock and even change the voltage, u will have the ext4 filesystem - in a word, for sure u will get closer to the speed you're looking for, however briefly it will last.
good luck.

Custom Rom and Kernel have difference compared to stock.. They are faster as what I had experienced with Rom GB.XXKPF.WT-0.3.0 (from WT Ho) and r13 Kernel from rumirand.which I have now currently. Give it a try.
Hi Guys,
I know this is completely against your religion, and i deserve a good hazing, but honestly I just want to be pointed into the right direction. Yes I have searched for terms and read some guides but I am a five year old with this phone/forum. Can someone tell me where to start with getting my att g note running better than the crappy firmware att dumps on it?
Do you root it first? then load a rom? im on a mac, is this possible? Is there a way i can make a "save state" of my current setup and be able to revert back to it if all hell breaks loose?
Please, please be gentle. Im too lazy/busy/retarded to try and start from scratch and learn this whole process, just want someone to hold my hand and tell me what to do.
re
First root,
then install CWM (clock work mod). With this, you can basically create a screenshot of every single file and how it was place. so if you do a backup and brick the phone you can do a restore and it will be as if nothing ever happened.
Next I would go for a Custom Rom / OC Kernel. This is where you use odin. If you reach this point search the forum a bit more and you will find your answers.
good luck!

Ok Got the terminology down. New problem. Im on a mac, no access to a pc. Is there not a mac version of odin? What do mac users do? I see this other software called heimdall, but the general consensus im seeing is "f*** heimdall".
heimdall does not work as of now on this phone; I used it constantly on my previous phone, but, its a no go on this one
I am too an all mac house, and, the only way to root this phone as of now is via Odin, and, there is no mac version of Odin
you have to either get hold of a windows pc, or, install windows on your mac via boot camp, or, run Parallels or VMWare on your mac, install windows on it that way, then install and run Odin to root your phone.
If you don't understand what I just said, then you shouldn't even be attempting this; maybe you live near someone who is more phone adept than yourself, and can do it for you?
After you get setup.
You might want to get this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&hl=en
Basically the mobile version of Odin, not that you will need it after you get CWM, but it might come in handy.
mobile odin is not compatible with our phone....as of a week or so ago when I tried it..
And, you need root to use Mobile Odin

There is a huge difference between the stock Note and rooted Note, you will never go back to stock with all the ATT bloat.

Have you purchased an external sd card yet? That definitely makings things easier. I didn't have one initially and every time I flashed a ROM I kept erasing all the backup data I had. Now I keep it on the external sd card so that doesn't happen.
I love Saurom Rom, but now I just moved over to Team Perfection ICS Rom and for me it works flawlessly.
Both Saurom and ICS produce roughly the same Quadrant Benchmark scores, and with Saurom you can over clock. My goal was to eliminate any lagg, and both will do that for you.
I've been at this for a month now and have learned quite a bit on this forum. Definitely spend some time on the Noob section .
Saurom apparently is a Canadian based ROM, and because of that, certain apps were not available to me in the app store because of that. The ICS ones didn't produce that issue.

I believe there are only 3 or 4 ics roms out now for this phone, so its pretty simple to try them all and decide from there...
I have a hard time answering when someone asks whats the "best rom", since we all have different criteria for what we consider 'the best"
I'm waiting for the official ICS update for Note. if I root it now, do I have to inroot before I can update to the official ICS?
