I think I need to reflash the android system onto my device, because I uninstalled the wrong files and now so many system features are broken (phone book won't open, fc when I try, gmail app fc on opening email, all user installed keyboards fc, surely many more but this is enough to tell me I need a reflash). Question is, where do my current backups stand? Will I be able to use them?? Please help, thanks.

Officially, you can't backup anything and all your data will be lost. If you were careful (maybe you did ?), you would use Titanium Backup and xRecovery to do full backups, but now you've messed everything up, it's not even safe to do a backup of a corrupted system...
To reflash, use Pc Companion or SEUS. You can also (not recommended) use custom flashers you can get from developping section...
Hi, thanks for your quick response. I forgot to mention of course I used titanium to fully backup everything, glad to know this can be used. So what do I do, how do I initiate the reflash process???
well, check the top sticky post..

If you have unistalled any system application, then you do only push that application to phone, after that restore the sytem data by Titenium backup.hope you have schedule backup...
if you have deleted some system files, then reflash ur fone by flash tool....you can only reflash the system.bin.(you need to root again)
hope it will help you......
Thanks everyone, all I had to do was restore my titanium backup (all missing) and I'm good again!!! Sorry I'm a girl that's a little new to this (however I have been following these threads religiously for a while now) so I just kinda freaked out when it all went wrong lol! Thanks

hey guys i am new to this forum
i recently rooted my android device with clockwork mod 5.0.2.8 installed
i flashed a new rom and before flashing i made a backup of the existing rom
the rom was ok and so i renamed the backup as 'stock'
i decided to go back to the original rom and thought of restoring it but it says "md5 sums not found"
so anybody have any kind of help
i am using samsung galaxxy ace plus gt-s7500
you need to rename it to what the backup was called when you created the nandroid
Just make sure that your backup is in root directory of your sd card..
Just like this
Sdcard>clockworkmod>backup>2012-09-06.11.31.38>files
If it is not like that make like that
Press thanks if i helped you

I've done this before on my motorola xoom, had to just delete the backup, kinda sucks. Since though I do recall some recoveries there is an option to not check md5 sums on restoration of the backup so that is what you want to try do. I have a feeling CWM doesn't have this feature but you can check. TWRP I think does so check if there is that recovery for your device. But then there may be compatibility issues since you made the backup with CWM. Worth a try though. Good luck
Thanks for the help

Yeah, same with when this happened to me.
You could, if feeling brave, theoretically this should work but I've never tried it. But the backups in your /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup folder are .img files you could extract them to your computer and use fastboot to flash them onto your device
will definitely try

update, i was running neatrom lite v 3.xx before, so i tried an experiment, i installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1569686 neatRom Lite v4
this installed ok, when "android updating" , after the initial install, i noticed that it was updating 156 apps ( the amount of apps i had originally)
however when you start you can only see 34 apps, which i guess must be the stock amount of apps with this rom
still cant restore anything , still can see that backup i did this morning, still get the same error message when i try and do any kind of restore ie MD5 mismatch"
is there anyway i can recover:
my contacts, those apps, my messages,
ie just the data and, have the apps ( that were just updated, but not visible) available?
thanks !

Just flash the same kernel you used to to make the backup, then restore your backup with that.
Btw, You didnt have a "soft brick" there is no such thing. Its a made up phrase by n00bs when they dont know what they have done and cant get system to boot so need to label it in some way. A device is either "bricked" or it isnt.

Yes i take your point about the "soft brick" , same as "she is a little bit pregnant" i guess
Linkhunter sent me a link to re-create my md5 , it's an EXE program, so needs to be run under Windows, im just just not sure how im supposed to get it to make a new md5 for my back up
can anyone give step by step instructions i can follow
re "Just flash the same kernel you used to to make the backup, then restore your backup with that.", are you saying because i made the backup with kernal A ( ICS), then tried to migrate to kernal B" ( Jellyban) , that it was the migration mis-match that is causing it not to restore,. Why i ask, is because i made another backup for some reason last September, and i tried to restore that one and it looked as if it would restore, i didnt get the (using ROM Manage Pro) message saying,." this doesnt appear to a valid backup, md5 is missing" .i stopped at that point, i still would rather get my latest backup (the data and apps restored) if possible

lol you got it
BTW there is a way to recalc md5sum via terminal emulator, just google it and you'll be able to restore. Happened to me too and solved this way
Sent from my GT-I9100G using xda app-developers app
If you ever run into an md5 mismatch error when trying to restore a backup, you could try the following ^^
Using Terminal Emulator: (mind spaces)
# cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/backup-name-goes-here
# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
Do usual wipes then restore the full nandroid ^^
NB, if it works (it has for me in past) it'll prob only work once for a particular nandroid...
so, after (if...) it works - just del old nandroid & make a new one
Sorry Bout the noob question.. but can we do this using different recovery backups? Like if you wanna restore a backup from twrp in a cwm recovery ?

dunno ^^ might work... someone with more knowledge than myself told me I coud just move a nandroid to the correct folder i.e. the one twrp uses & it would be all good... never tested it myself though
cheers guys,
my GT-I9300 broke - now i got a new one. Exact same model.
I used CWM for creating backups.
Now i read, however, that i only can use the backup if I'm actually using the same version of CWM on my new phone that i also used to create the backup.
I don't know, however, with which version of CWM i created the backups.
This results in the fact, that i cant use the old backups to flash my new phone.
Does anyone know a way to find out with which CWM the Backups were being created?
Thank u all in advance,
Regards

It doesn't need to be the exact same version, but there are incompatibilities between really old and newer versions. Have you actually tried to restore a backup yet?
Also, please look at the sticky threads in this section. There is one here in capital letters saying that you cannot post questions here.

Sorry for that! Ill respect it next time.
Actually i tried.... but it doesnt seem to work, as it says in CWM "No such files found" (I was trying to copy it to the right "Backup" folder in /clockworkmod/backup - but i couldnt find the folder!?) and in Mobile Odin it doesnt work either.. Tells me something about "Partition could not be found in file"...
So its.. kinda weired!
I think it might work if I were able to copy them into the right CWM folder.. but even with root in CMs file manager i cant access it.
Thanks for the help
regards
Flash a CWM recovery make backup .
Open backup folder delete contents .
Copy your backup contents to the folder .
