[Q] Android 2.3 gingerbread on streak? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there fellow streakers and power users, was wondering if anyone out there knows how I can get gingerbread on my streak. Apparently there are some really neat improvements when compared to froyo so it would be nice to try.
I have a dell streak from o2 unlocked with 2.2 froyo currently running on it. It hasn't been rooted as I can't find any sensible how to's on getting the original ota froyo rooted. Any help or pointers would be highly appreciated thanks.
Ps: this is my first post.

Not yet there is one name is the development of streak Roms and such and its dj Steve and he has only put out a great 2.2 froyo OS this far.

Steve said he is skipping 2.3 and is going straight to 3.0 honeycomb.

Thanks for the update, didn't know that

That would be awesome to get some 3.0 love!
From my freakn Dell Streakn! 3.5 retina? Get outta heh!

Glad to hear that I don't think there is a great difference between 2.2 and 2.3 but the difference between 2.2 and 3.0 will be huge.

Thanks for the comment. That's really sad though. Would have loved to upgrade from 2.2 froyo. Now we have to wait ages for 3.0's release and then wait again for our rom saviour djSteve to sort us out.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to find something else to Tinker with on my dell streak until that time. Has anyone rooted original froyo yet? Why is the streak soooo difficult to hack/root. When I had the iphone I jailbroke it the same day I got it. IV had the streak a month now and still don't know how its done. I tried superboot and got stuck on the dell screen. IV heard soo much about the huge difference with rooted phones and custom roms. I want hands on. Pls, someone tell me it is possible to get root access on my streak and show me how. Thanks.

I haven't rooted mine but I have seen lots of info on it right here on and on Streakzoid I Believe.

Why not just follow. One of the guides? Its easy enough.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

Your right 'that1dude', there are many guides. Stoney73, I followed one of them only to get stuck on the dell screen which freaked me out so I am more inclined to follow a simpler method. U know, one for click and paste morons... not saying that I am one but after that experience I learnt that one can easily go from owning a dell streak to owning a dell brick.

Dell Streak 2.1 Update

Hi everyone, while my streak will be hear tomorrow and have been searching through the site and would like assistance on where to download the latest/offical 2.1 dell release if there is one not the O2 version and how to update, as from my reading when 2.2 is release a 2.1 base OS will be required on the device if this is right.
I wouldnt bother with 2.1 - use DJ_steve's 2.2 build. I finally got round to doing mine last night and had some help from steve. It finally works as i would expect it to + you have the added bonus of not having any of the dell rubbish on there. This is of course my opinion but i think that most on here would agree with me....i think i could safely say now theres a valid working and quite frankly brilliant build of 2.2 this part of the foum has exploded.
I would totally agree. Having been upgrading at every earliest possibility I have seen them all.
When I first got the streak I loved it..then got 2.1..loved it even more..then took plunge to root n install from .zip n it was quite straight forward..only problem I had was windows 7drivers, but this was resolved by a bit of reading.
Seriously Dj staves 2.2 is amazing, its fast, stable and a credit to the streak.. Then load up flash.. then ur streak will b amazing..I mean BBC iplayer on that huge screen..gorgeous.

Hi, thank you for replying, could someone provided the link and guide to flashing. does this mean you can upgrade from 1.6 to 2.2?

Go onto the stickers section and read the guides /how too's n in there u will find all the downloadlinks in dj_steves's 2.2 download sticker.
Hope this helps n happy updating when the time comes.

MIUI on DELL STREAK ?

Is a port of MIUI on the Streak possible ? I'm very attracted to this UI and think it would look awesome on our 5 inch screens.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Its a nice theme, I am sure its possible. But looks so iphone like, which really arent to my liking.
The theme tends to develop his own style and to differ from iOS. The UI iso very slick and since Gingerbread seems to be a disappointment ...

Its slick, no doubt, my friend has it on his milestone, it has some cool animation and 60 FPS system animations versus 17 FPS on the stock rom on a Nexus One. That makes it so much smoother. It does has this iPhone aroma about it.
I wouldn't pass judgement on gingerbread so quickly, its no even been release yet
Although I agree about the "looking too much like an iphone" thing, I would love to see this.
We're all extremely greatful for the huge amount of work that steve does on the Streak, but we really need more people developing,
An MIUI or Cyanogen rom would really give the streak the kick up the ass it deserves, this monster phone just seems wasted on the crap Dell are churning out.
Actually Steve is working on CM6 AFAIK. But we need something powerful. Something that is incredibly eye-candy. We could have the best phone if Dell cared.

Both of you are right, we need more dev and more rom choices. Streak 5 inch screen could do so much more. We need more dev to uncover its potential......
Yeah. I mean, if we could have DjSteve, Sense, MIUI and CM6 that would be awesome yet. When I see the number of Roms for the Hero I'm just WOW.

I just looked this rom up - the 10.29 version on the htc desire ,and it looks amazing. I think if one of you fantastic people could port it to our streaks it would make a great device with a crap ui ,into a great all round device.

Im running stock o2 1.6 btw.

miui is not jsut a theme, its a fully edited build of android, hence getting it to work on the streak is more of a hassle than you would think, will be something im gonan look at beforelong tho as ive put cm on hold for now pending audio libs sources being released by dell
I've read the MIUI benchmarks higher than cm anyway.
Hey steve, great news about the possibility of more rom options, not that we're dissing your current work though, the streak would be a sad state of affairs without your work so far & I hope you continue!
*Took me ages to find where this thread had gone, probably should be moved out of dev & in to general*

There has been no progress noted on the CM6 port to our Streak in some time now. I think Steve is busy working on his own stuff for us right now. Still the best phone ive ever had so im not complaining, but id sure love to see what all the CM6 hype is about.

If you follow steve twitter, cm6 is put on hold for now on pending audio source from dell. It will come we just have to be patient.

[Q] New to Streak and Android community

Hi everyone,
I just bought the Streak and will being getting it in this Tues. This will be my very first android/touch screen phone. I've been doing some research here and there but am still a little confuse. As of now, I know its going to be the updated Froyo version. I was hoping if I can get some suggestions on what apps I should add to this phone? Should I change it to DJ Steve's version? What are the benefits of rooting this phone? Thank you in advance!
It should come with Froyo pre-installed for you. The stock version is pretty stable for me. I.d recommend to try out the stock version first especially you are new user.

I got my Streak in March. I was glad it was shipped with 1.6 so I could spend a week or so getting familiar with the system and all it features. I really liked it, actually gave me time to notice which changes occurs when I walk thru 2.2 Actually didnt wantto update it.
Then after 2 weeks andupdated, loved the streak even more. You will be very glad you got the Dell Streak.

Miui for dell streak???

Question... i know we achieved so much with the dell streak 5 and the 2.3 and 2.4 ...... but will there be any hopes in completing an updated miui rom?....

Dj Steve tweeted yesterday that he may be working on this...
DMonsterProd: "time to see if 2.3 based miui is any easier to persuade to work on the streak5"

Love to see miui on streak
I've set up a fascinate, droid x, and dinc 2 all with miui. In fact I only buy phones that have miui roms available for them. Even most motorola phones with their locked boot loader and stock kernels have miui roms for them
Best rom hands down.
That would be absolutely wonderful. I've fallen in love with miui roms and would love to see this on my dell..
cant wait to get an update?
best of luck
