Quick glossary
ADB - The Android Debug Bridge. A collection of tools that any rooted Android user should have. ADB allows one to interact with their device from a terminal interface. This enables the user to do a variety of tasks such as sideloading applications and more.
Android - A Linux based operating system created and mostly designed by Google. The major revisions are 1.0, 1.1, 1.5 (Cupcake), 1.6 (Donut), 2.0/2.0.1/2.1 (Eclair), 2.2 (Froyo) 2.3 (Gingerbread), and 3.0 (Honeycomb - tablet only). The majority of Android major revisions are named after desserts.
APK - Android PacKage. These are, basically, Android applications and all of their data. They are run via the Dalvik Virtual Machine on your device.
Bootloader - The part of a computer that loads the operating system. If this is damaged/deleted you are screwed.
Flashing - The act of installing a ROM onto an embedded device or emulator.
Overclocking - Increasing the "clock" of a processor to increase its speed at the expense of battery life and possibly your phone. Not all processors overclock the same, even if the hardware is identical. One phone with a Hummingbird SoC will not be able to overclock to 1.2ghz, yet another would be able to overclock to 2.0ghz (very unlikely).
S-ON/S-OFF - S-ON is a "security" measure put in place by HTC on their newer phones that read locks /system and /recovery. Switching S-ON to S-OFF disables this protection and allows you to replace the stock recovery, and modify /system while the phone is in Android.
Radio/Modem - The parts of a firmware that allow communication between the operating system, the telecommunication hardware, and a mobile network. Some radios give good battery life, some good signal, some neither.
XDA - This site, XDA is a community of likeminded developers, hackers, and users who modify various phones running various operating systems (Windows Mobile, Windows Phone 7, and Android specifically).

Here is the First Custom ROM for the Dell Streak. Bsed on the 4399 build.
Requirements
In order to use this ROM on your device, you must have a custom recovery image installed. You can read more about how to use a CRI on your device in this topic.
Features Included
* Based on the 4399 release
* Rooted with Superuser 2.1 by ChainsDD
* Built with the MCR build process which reduces the size and boosts the speed of the ROM
* Rooted boot image with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK
* busybox with Droid Explorer support
* terminfo and settings in boot.img to allow nano etc. use
* Updated Google Maps
* MCR version displayed in 'About' screen
* Optional baked in Wavesecure via the online kitchen (installed to system partition for maximum security)
* Odexed to remove key dex files from the internal for performance reasons.
This ROM is currently only available in the online kitchen - prebakes to follow.
Get it Here.
Come on, lets get some XDA chefs support for the Streak, I can't afford MoDaCo's prices!
Pre-bakes will follow with most of the advantages of the kitchen, you just cant chose what to add or remove. I have a pre-bake on my Desire, its fine.
whats the advantages/disadvantages to prebakes?
Pre-bakes are essentially just like all the other ROMs on here. They are fixed in what they have in them, as decided by the cook. The Kitchen allows you to modify the ROM to your tastes, leaving out bits you dont want and adding bits you do. You can even add your own progs and skins if you know how to make them and zip them.
The pre-bakes are free, the Kitchen is £9.99 a year and that covers all ROMs for all devices you may have. The pre-bakes also are a few days behind the kitchen.
The core of the ROMs are the same though, so the pre-bakes have all the important features and performance benefits of the kitchen ROMs.
seriously .... if u cant afford 80p a month ho the hell did u get a streak stop being tight...
Yeah you're right youth...I went for it int end like
I think once its being sold in America we will have a lot more interest i mean who could resist a streak
@lufc
Actually i think we are very fortunate that Paul from MoDoCo has a Streak as he has been able to Root most devices before others and also with others manages to deliver some seriously good Roms to. Considering how short a time the Streak has been out even in the UK I'd say we are doing pretty well considering it's Rooted with Superuser permissions and we already have custom Roms and a kitchen. But i do agree the more users that have Streaks the more stuff we will start seeing being developed for it now if only we could start seeing some 3rd party cables and cases and other accessories that would be great.

Gee,I don't know......is this the X1 forum??? Didn't think so...... ;p
it would be nice to see a standard android rom on here...but i believe cyanogen has a rom for streak that is free
I had hear about cyanogenmod earlier and even tried to install it once when I was a rank noob without much luck. In my recent explorations of kernels and cifs I found myself at the cm site. It seemed pretty organized and I thought it might be interesting to have another go at it. I followed the instructions and installed it and it worked flawlessly. I restored my apps from Titanium backup and I'm up and running. I did some research in our forum and that, combined with some of my own observations, makes me wonder about the relationship between CM and some of the other roms like Vegan Ginger (which I really like) I get the impression that some or even all of our roms here are derivatives of CM that have been tweaked further by our devs. Is this correct? What is the difference between Vegan Ginger for example and CM7? I'm really puzzled because the kernels and the basic look and feel seem very similar. Someone even remarked that all of our roms are derivatives of CM. I'd be interested to know some of the background and the pedigrees of the various roms and their relationship with CM.
Cyanogenmod is one of the more known and talented group of Android ROM developers, developing for many devices and being a large team of dedicated coders, artist, etc...
They have taken the stock AOSP code and have modified, enhanced and added features far beyond the stock code. Most ROMs you see that have these additions are because they are forked from Cyanogenmod's github and then edited to look like their own (different graphic images, different text wording, etc..).
CyanogenMod was also one of the only ROM devs that I know of that got a Cease & Desist letter from Google early on and created the separated config of installing the rom.zip and Gapps.zip (Rom image and Google Apps).
As for how Vegan-Ginger relates...
Project Moving to Gingerbread
January 12, 2011 14 Comments
Just a quick update for everyone so you know where we stand at this point. Because of all the issues I have had trying to reverse engineer fixes into VEGAn, we have decided to move away from the actual VEGA system image. We have decided to move the project to a MODIFIED CyanogenMod 7 (aka Gingerbread) ROM with “inspiration from VEGA”. This will allow us to not only fix issues more easily but our work would also directly benefit the CM7 camp as well. This would give also give everyone the choice of a completely stock gingerbread like ROM as well.
THERE IS NO ETA AS OF YET FOR A RELEASE. When there is one…. you all will be the first to know! Exciting Times Ahead.

Paranoid Android Experience Jellybean
Introducing the CM10 Jellybean Paranoid Android Experience for the Evo 3D!
View attachment 1317538 View attachment 1317539 View attachment 1317540 View attachment 1317541
This ROM is based off of Agrabren's CM10 Disarmed Toaster for CDMA and is ported from the HTC Sensation Paranoid Android ROM.
This build is considered to be stable, but is a far cry from being 100% finished. As the Camera and Bluetooth do not work.
The good:
It boots!
****For those of you who are experiencing bootloops, this has to do with the radio. After flashing this ROM if you encounter a bootloop, try reflashing your radio and that should fix the bootloop. I have tested this myself but it has not been confirmed by others yet. Try this at your own risk, I am not responsible for bricked phones or anything else that might occur when using this ROM or flashing radios*****

Thank you user Alammori for this!
Hboot 1.5+ users have reported no booting, Downgrade people, it makes your life easier
What makes it so great?
-More space!
On average, you get about 1 to 1.01 GB (aka, 1 GB plus 10 extra MB max) with an AOSP Rom after you install the Rom+Gapps
With this, after installing the entire ROM (Gapps Included, explaination below) you have 1.07 GB (1 GB plus 70 MB) free to do with it what you please! 60 MB of additional user space!!!!!
-It's Slim, so it's faster, less processes in the background, and better battery life
-You (the user) get the ultimate control over what you put in your phone, more data for applications
-So many more benefits I cannot begin to describe
-Stock OC'd to 1.5 GHz (can be changed in the settings menu)
What doesn't work?
-Face Unlock option not available YET (minor bug, test to see if it works for you though)
-You tell me, runs fine on my end
-edit: 3D DOES NOT WORK lol (boot animation should though, so this statement isnt 100% true)
The Specs:
Wifi - Works
3G - Works
4G - IDK I dont have that
Bluetooth - Works
GPS - Works
Multitouch - Works

Every App available on the phone as is - Works

Attention Stock-based ROM users (Androwook, Energy, CleanROM, etc): You must downgrade from the 4.2.1 bootloader, otherwise this ROM will not work. This ROM requires the 4.1.1 bootloader.
Also, please read this entire post as well as post three if you plan to use Data2SD.
Finally, this ROM requires either my modified TWRP or namidairo's modified CWM Recovery. If you are already running kitkat based ROMs, you're fine.
ParanoidAndroid 4.5-BETA2
Current Stable Version: pa_tf201-4.5-BETA2-20140814And now, making it's long overdue debut on XDA... ParanoidAndroid for the TF201.
See post 2 for changelog..
Note: Data Wipe is required if coming from another ROM or PA version 3.99-RC2 or earlier. If you've been using the PA4.x beta versions, you *should* be okay, but try a data wipe if you have any FC's.
Data2SD mod now available. See installation instructions. See post three, "If you plan to use Data2SD" for formatting instructions and other notes.
Main Features:
1.Per-app DPI, layout, and color settings (configurable from Hybrid properties in Settings).
2.PIE, a new UI for Expanded Desktop (Immersive) mode. Drag your finger from the bottom of the screen while in expanded desktop mode to use it.
3.HOVER, a multi-tasking feature that opens apps in a floating window without closing your current app.
3.CyanogenMod's new theme engine
Starting with PA 4.x, the PA team have decided to re-write a lot of their core features from scratch, so some of the features above are missing.
Before flashing, make sure you are using Jellybean Bootloader version 4.1.1 and a compatible recovery, otherwise this ROM will not work. Stock-based ROM users must downgrade from the 4.2.1 bootloader. Also, this ROM requires either my modified TWRP or namidairo's modified CWM Recovery.
Installation Instructions:
1.Download the latest ROM from here.
-Optional Downloads:
Data2SD, framework-res.apk, ad OC kernels can be downloaded here.
Note: The latest ROM's, kernels and framework-res.apk's can also be found in the Downloads section at the top of the page.
2.Download pa gapps from here. Use the micro modular package.
3.Reboot to recovery. Make sure you are using either my modded TWRP or namidairo's modded CWM recovery. Stock-based ROM users: flash downgrade zip before proceeding beyond this point. Follow the instructions provided within the thread of whichever ROM you are using (Androwook, Energy, CleanROM, etc). You will then need to update to a later recovery version.
4.Nandroid (just in case).
5.Wipe Data/Factory Reset and wipe System if coming from a different ROM or PA version 3.99-RC2 or earlier. If you are already running PA 4.x, then no data wipe is necessary.
6.Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache (Recommended regardless).
7.Flash the ROM and gapps (If you plan to use Data2SD, proceed to post three for additional information and instructions at this point).
8.Reboot.
Known Issues:
1. The Dock battery doesn't show up on the status bar
2. GPS is still broken
3. Multi-user is broken (causes bootloops).
4. Most likely other little things.
If anyone finds any bugs, don't send a bug report to the ParanoidAndroid Team, report them here since this is an unofficial build. I don't have any other testers, so there may be bugs I've missed/never encountered.
The team often posts status updates on their Google+ page. Check here for news/status updates.
Check here for the ParanoidAndroid changelog for official builds. I'll post any significant changes I make in post two.

Data2SD Information and Archive Download Links
If you plan to use Data2SD:
Make sure your microSD card has two partitions, both set to Primary (or boot in linux). The first can be whatever you like, but the second must be ext4. I would recommend using at least 6GB minimum for the second partition since this is where all of your apps and internet downloads will go. Starting with PA 4.x, I'm introducing an Enhanced Data2SD kernel. This version will allow any app to read from and write to the internal storage, whether or not it has root access. Unfortunately, this version needs to be flashed in two files. One is the kernel, the other is a modified frameworks-res.apk. For the kernel, just download the latest version; it will work on any build. The frameworks-res.apk however, must be matched to the specific ROM version. The filenames for the ROM and framework zips include build dates. Make sure these match. For Data2SD, use the files marked "Data2SD". To revert, use the files marked "Stock". Download links can be found in post one.
To install:
1. Follow all the installation steps from post one up to and including step seven.
2. After you flash the ROM + Gapps, reboot, let the progress bar fill, then reboot back into recovery.
3. Flash the Data2SD kernel.
4. Flash the modified framework-res.apk.
5. Reboot and proceed as normal.
If you get an "Encryption Unsuccessful" error within android (it's hard to miss), it means you didn't format your microSD card correctly. Make sure both partitions are set to primary (or that the boot flag is checked in linux) and that the second partition is ext4. Also, make sure the partitions aren't part of an extended partition. They must be separate or you will get this error.

so i use PA 3.0 on my phone, and my rom dev had us download a special PA-GAPPS. but this one just call for the standard cm10 ones. just wondering why that might be? i just figured it was cause PA was its own special deal lol
grats!
Couple of hours on this ROM, I would say it's a very smooth indeed. Minor bug on 'Custom Tiles', you can't add or delete additional tiles.
Gonna stay with this ROM for a while as I like PA on a tablet. Thanks Voyager2k !

Yes you're right, they can be deleted. But 'systemui' FC when I tried to add GPS. Anyway, maybe just me had too much to drink lol.

Found the problem. For some reason the MDPI icon set is incomplete, so the SystemUI couldn't load the proper icons. I've switched over to the HDPI icon set and it seems to be working fine. Icons are a little bigger, but personally, I kind of like it. I'll have a new build uploaded shortly.
Edit: Build is now live. Let me know if this fixes it for you.
Re: [ROM][JB Bootloader] ParanoidAndroid 3.10r1 [UNOFFICIAL] 2/28/2013
Wonderful build. Flashed it with motleys kernel and this literally brought back life to my prime lol. I love PA. FYI pie is still a little borked. The snap points don't work as well as access to the notifications thru pie. No problem tho. Still lovin it. Thanks.

Re: [ROM][JB Bootloader] ParanoidAndroid 3.10r1 [UNOFFICIAL] 2/28/2013
Both are working for me. Try this: drag your finger to the right, just past the solid arc to view notifications, or left, just past the dotted arc for the quick settings panel. For snap points, you need to drag your finger over to one of the + symbols and leave it there until PIE closes.

Voyager posted on the earlier thread that if you set navbar size to 0% you can have both pie and statusbar

Dpwnloaded latest build and installed. SystemUI FC is FIXED on latest build. Thank you Voyager2k !
Installed last night with PA gapps. Had an issue with the play store at first, wouldnt sync. Had to delete and readd my google account, then it worked.
Also... i cant get PIE to work at all. I have turned off the dock... i have a tablet not a phone. Do i need dock on to have the pie feature?
Other than that, speedy and stable after letting it sit and cache for an hour or so.
Something i noticed though, id been running jellybeer previously, and whenever i did a jellybeer reinstall, it auto downloaded all my play store apps from the last build. I thought that was really cool. PA doesnt seem to do that, where is that feature from?
Good, but you have to fix color choosing in PA Settings and also fix clock widget on the lockscreen
Re: [ROM][JB Bootloader] ParanoidAndroid 3.10r1 [UNOFFICIAL] 2/28/2013
Working great, even colour settings is working on my one. Just only had issues with theme changer, kept crashing even though I didn't even change anything. So I removed it and now it's good.
Great work!

Hey guys, I was recently installing a new ROM and kernel on my Nexus 6 when I happened upon something interesting. Franco makes an AMAZING kernel for Nexus devices, and he has an awesome app called FKUpdater which checks his server for new updates to the kernel, provides the user with the changelog for that update, then allows the user to either a) download the zip file for the kernel, or b) download and auto-flash the kernel zip.
I thought this was especially smart because it works regardless of what ROM you're on, since we all know how difficult it can be to stay up to date on both the ROM and the kernel, not to mention any other mods that we like for your phones (thinking back to the pre-Lollipop mods like Xposed, etc).
So, what if there was a way to make a ROM OTA manager, which could check for new versions of your ROM using something as simple as an RSS feed that developers could reference using the build.prop.
Here's the way I imagine this working:
A ROM developer doesn't want to go through all of the unnecessary hassle and costs associated with implementing the OTA features (it's not as easy as it might sound), so instead the developer simply adds a line to the build.prop:
ro.customROMversion.rss=http://www.example.com/rss
This build.prop line would be universal for all ROMs, with the actual RSS link being associated with each specific ROM (so if a development team builds ROMs for multiple devices, they would have one feed per device).
Then the app would check the build.prop for that line, and regularly check the RSS feed for updates. The RSS feed would have a standardized format. It would include the necessary information for the app to detect a new version (version number, build date, etc) as well as including the changelog for the new version (if the ROM developer includes this).
In reality, this wouldn't be difficult at all, and the best part is that the feature could be added in a heartbeat to practically every ROM out there. The ONLY issue I could see running into would be that the download links for the ROMs would (potentially) need to be direct downloads, with no redirects. I don't know how important that would be to implementation, though.
Does anyone see this as being something particularly difficult to do? I would love to build/release this (I REALLY wish I could contribute more to the Android community at large), but I don't know how to program something like this. If anyone thinks they could do this, I would really love to help put this in motion!
