[Q] Flashing Nero 5 on Axura 2.2.5.7! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So Im thinking of flashing Nero V5. I flashed Axura 2.2.5.7 on stock 2.1
Should I just put the nero v5 on internal sd and use rom manager to install it or do I need to odin back to stock? I see a lot of people flashing roms without going back to stock 2.1. whats the catch?
Can I delete the Axura 22257 zip file (that i used to flash it to save space)? I don’t think I need to disable voodoo, do I?
Also, I think I need to wipe data and delete cache something like that… how and in which step do I do that?

To wipe, reboot into recovery and do it from there. Most ppl don't go back to stock but if your new rom is giving you weird problems then you will probably have to go back to stock then flash.

You can delete the zip files after flashing. Nero will automatically wipe during the install, so you don't need to worry about that. If you're running Voodoo recovery (Red text on black instead of green on black) then you won't need to disable voodoo lagfix to install.

I have the voodoo application installed that enables/disables it. Do I need to disable it?

Nandroid backup question

I noticed something since i updated to JI6 while using Clockwork recovery. while on JFD i was able to do a backup using the following steps:
HOW TO MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP *ALWAYS BACKUP BEFORE YOU FLASH A NEW ROM
1 - Open Rom Manager
2 - Click on Flash Clockwork Recovery (you can skip this if you have already flashed the recovery before)
3 - Click on "Reboot Into Recovery"
4 - At the prompt, click "ok" to reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery
5 - If this is your first time, you may be at the stock recovery on the Vibrant. Thats normal. Click on "reinstall packages" (ALSO: Volume up and down navigate, and power is used to select an item).
6 - Now, you are at ClockworkMod's Recovery. Scroll down (volume down), to "Nandroid" and select it (power button).
7 - Click on Backup. It will run it's course. After it finishes just reboot.
8 - You now have something you can always fall back on in case you F up. Thank Koush and all the testers.
Now when i tried to do a backup on JI6 i no longer see Nandriod option all i see is "backup and restore". is this normal? has anyone else noticed this? will impact the backup/restore process?
That might not be a JI6 thing. Koush just updated rom manager. Thats most likely the reason.

clockworkmod 2.5.1.2
when i select "check for rom updates" it says that i am not set for OTA and i need to contact dev.
Your all good bro! Thats the same version Im running and I just checked, I dont have NANDROID anymore either. That was all part of the recent update I guess.
As for the second question, ROM updates is talking about the actual ROM the phone runs off of, You know like ECLAIR 2.1, or Eugenes or Sombionix's roms. Not the ROM manager APP. The APP will let you know when it needs to be updated, it checks what version you are running versus what the latest version availible is everytime you open it.

what about flashing to a old clockworkmod? or is there no need to? i just want to make sure that when i backup i will not have any issues if i need to restore..
one more Q. any particular way to name the backups? i know there is not that much room to be specific with the name.

well answer my own question, i reflashed clockwork to 2.5.1.1 & 2.5.1.0 and the nandroid option still does not come up only "backup & restore"....
anyone on the best way to name your backups? not that much room to be specific.
if you choose to back up from ROM manager you can name it whatever you want. Just go into Rom manager, tap backup current rom, when the little box pops up click it and change the name to whatever you want. It will automatically boot into clockwork mod and take care of the back up for you. let it finish, patience is critical whenever flashing anything or backing anything up. And your done. You will now have a complete backup you can use when the going gets tough. Are you running a stock vibrant?

Dont worry, you wont screw anything up, all four of those choices wipe everything and flash a kernel. My suggestion is to flash bionix1.9.1 with JAC's OC/UV kernal. its pretty sweet. Stay away from voodoo right now. No offense, but your not ready yet. VOODOO really can F*%k your stuff up if you dont disable it before flashing other stuff. Trust me, once you start flashing you will never be happy! LOL Thats how i started.
The best thing you can do is read read read. Then when you think your ready, READ some more. If you ever need help feel free to pm me. Im always on. Sorry I didnt even look at your sig. And HAPPY FLASHING BRO!

No need to disable lagfix it will get wiped and reformatted. However I did see a way to do it, but i dont use them so i dont know how its done. The whole point of backing up is so you can get back to where you were in case something goes wrong or yu dont like what you see. As far as one click lag fix (OCLF) and voodoo go, its like night and day. VOODOO is INSANELY fast. ALL THE TIME. but they are truely different approaches at the same goal. But for now i reccomend you stay away from voodoo.

Question about voodoo

hi, i tried to search but got no luck, im going to flash back to stock eclair, downloaded everything necessarry (odin, rom and pit) but :
i saw somewhere that voodoo can cause a bootloop if i flash a rom with odin. im now using bionix 1.3.1.
what i did is disabled vooodoo lagfix on CWR, on voodoo control app, it says my phone does not have a kernell that suport voodoo features, so i think im good to go.
can i flash or i need to do anything else so nothing wrong happens?
downloaded voodoo toggle and turned it off, its trustable?
yes. before you flash back to stock make sure there's the disable voodoo file in your voodoo folder.

You would need to flash a kernel that has VooDoo sound in it...like:
Categorically Worthless (which is what i'm using)
Dead Horse
OverStock 1.4
Destroyer of Worlds (DoW14)
Dragon
I'm not really sure if they work on stock ROMs...they might but idk.....i see very few people on stock these days...but those are the kernels that will get you VooDoo sound, color and lagfix.
I recommend OverStock 1.4. But Categorically Worthless is just as good. Dragon is quite a stable OC kernel, in my opinion, but you know what OC means, you could end up with problems. Lastly, stay away from Dead Horse and DoW for now if you're not advanced.
Im gonna use this kernal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967861..... Which is the OverStock 1.4. How do I load it on my phone. I'm rooted with superoneclick. Can I use baywolf's vibrant toolbox? Once I get the kernal loaded and my phone rebooted can I use supercurio's voodoo market app?

Ok...honestly i have no experience w/ stock 2.2 as i've been running custom ROMs since i got my Vibrant.....but i'll tell you the steps anyway as if you're on 2.1......anyone feel free to correct me...but here goes:
1. Download and install ROM Manager for the market
2. Open ROM Manager and select the top option Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Select Vibrant when asked and let it do its thing...when its done hit "Reboot into recovery"
4. When you do you should get sent to the stock recovery screen....hit "reinstall packages" and it should reboot
5. When it comes back up it should send you to ClockworkMod Recovery, if it doesnt then hit re install packages again and it should send you straight there.
Now that you have ClockworkMod Recovery you can flash the kernel...should be self-explanatory if you read the directions on the kernel's thread....i still suggest you do a bit more research before you do this...especially since you're on stock 2.2...also make a Nandroid (Full System Backup) before you try anything and have Odin ready....stuff happens...hope it helps and good luck
I'm running a voodoo injected stock froyo kernel, I seem to get better battery over Overstock or Categorically Worthless
The instructions say to use red recovery, do I just place the ziped kernal on my sd card?

I backup my kernel using SGS Kernel Flasher and then flash a new kernel from clockwork recovery. Red Recovery means voodoo is already installed, CWM recovery is green by default. I'm not real sure what all it takes to run voodoo on a stock rom

red recovery is just a VooDoo injected version of clockworkmod....when you flash your Overstock or whatever yours will be red too....also....expect a robotic woman to start talking to you when after you flash your kernel....its Linda activating the VooDoo lagfix...

Pretty much only but the kernel on your internal sd,
download the app to backup your kernel
reboot into recovery (assuming you already have clockwork recovery installed)
install zip from sd card
choose zip to install
scroll down til you find it
choose it then scroll down to yes
it'll do some magic and then you'll be at recovery again, reboot and wait for linda to do her magic, takes about 5 minutes.
Doesnt rooting install clockworkrecovery, if not do I install it from the market place. What if I have other items on my sd card like music, pictures etc. I have 6GB left on my sd card. Once installed what is BLN and do I have to get an app for that. And can I use the voodoo market app after install kernal?
Yes you download Rom manager from the market, run it, let it check, if all good install the very top choice flash clockwork recovery.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Once you have ClockwordMod Recovery, which is green by default I believe, flash a Voodoo-injected kernel using the methods other people described, and you will have a red ClockwordMod Recovery. Red is to indicate that the phone has Voodoo lagfix enabled.

[Q] Flashed to Axura 2.3.1.2 and now phone keeps looping the boot animation?!?!

Which rom specifically?
Also you shouldnt have to disable voodoo if you are coming from another voodoo rom.
have you tried reflashing the rom?
I got the same prob. Try to get back to stock T959UVJFD using odin and reflash.
Axura is nice but it shows many compatible troubles when trying with different kernels/mod.
I tried reflashing several times but no luck so far. And the previous rom I was using was the froyo rom for eclair the download zip file name is AXURA22VE...I'm thinkin I should probably have ODIN to stock Eclair, then update my phone to stock froyo before flashing this rom.
dont bother with stock froyo just odin to jfd then root install cwm and flash the rom
going to stock froyo includes the updated 3e recovery which can be circumvented but requires extra work on your part.
Thx shreddintyres :-D
You know I forgot to state this earlier but I can get to recovery mode (cwm v2.5.1.3 red lettering not green) should I just do a backup and restore from there?!?! I am not sure if the axura 2.3.1.2 file I have is corrupt or is it something I am doing wrong on my end when flashing the rom?

@op when did you download axura 2312? the D4A server went down a couple days ago and we are trying to restore all the files on the new site.
Redownloading 2312 will be not be possible at this point in time, i have posted a download for 2310 in the Axura development thread until the site is fully functional again. there isnt a very large difference between 2310 and 2312.
if you are still able to add files to your phone i would try to flash from CWM first otherwise if you cant jfd will be your only choice.
Hope this Helps
Thx guys I'm in the process of recovering from cwm now, tbh I haven't used ODIN before so before I try it hopefully my nandroid backup will restore everything. I downloaded the 2.3.1.2 rom I believe the day it came out.
the downloads on the d4a webiste are back up for the vibrant rom

thanx men that really helps
All is well :-D I guess the old file I had was corrupted bc I flashed this rom w/ no problems at all...Thx

Confused about what i can flash?! help!

I'm not new to rooting, i used to have a rooted Evo. But all this DL09, EB01, stuff for the fascinate is getting confusing.
When i rooted my fascinate the first time i flashed a DL30 rom and my phone semi-bricked, it just hung at the samsung logo (i think the problem was i had the DL09 modem???). I had orange CWM but to get into it i had to go through stock blue recovery and apply update.zip every time. after i flashed the DL30 rom blue recovery wouldnt flash the update.zip, it said validation failed.
So i used odin to flash DJ01 stock, then the EB01 all in one root/recovery/SC 2.9, and then i flashed the red CWM-all. I no longer have blue recovery at all, which i think is good.
But now my problem is im afraid to flash a new rom. Since i no longer have to go through blue recovery to get to CWM i should be ok to flash anything right? If i mess it up so bad that it wont boot into the OS i should still be able to get into recovery and restore my backup regardless of what i flash through CWM right?
Also, on a related note. I have a theme for EB01 that i like (Im on SC 2.9 now). if i flash SC 2.9.2, then a new kernel, will my theme that worked on SC 2.9 still work on 2.9.2?
What I recommend is starting off getting an EB01 base.
Start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029436
After you Odin stock EB01/repartition, new recovery, radio, kernel of your choosing (make sure to enable voodoo lagfix if choosing a voodoo kernel)
For a rom I would download the debloated EC01 Rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035420
From there flash a theme of your choosing, make sure to wipe cache/Dalvik before installing a new theme.
Just make sure to reboot after everything flash.
Follow the steps in the links I provided.
Fyi, EC01 is the newest. Also you can also wait till Monday as its rumored that Froyo will finally be released. From my reading it could most likely happen next week.

That is not the question i asked. Im asking if its safe to flash any rom/kernel/theme now that i have red CWM. When i had orange CWM and had to go through blue recovery to get to it i hosed my system partition, couldnt get to CWM, and had to flash back to stock through odin.
So just to clarify. Is it safe to flash whatever i want now that i have red CWM?
Yes you should be ok. I flashed over twenty different themes thru CWM red. Just don't forget to wipe before.

Just a heads up Sonic. He also posted this question over in the themes section so he may be getting confused trying to switch back and forth and possibly getting different answers between the two threads. Just don't want you to waste your time of giving him the correct advice like you are doing, and have it go for naught.
