Everytime I flash, I have to refreeze all the battery eaters ._. Maybe someone can post a list that will help everybody
So... what do YOU freeze? So far I only have media center and DRM's.

I can only find delete bloat partion of the guide o-o
Unless you're still on JI6 there's no need to Freeze or remove anything... that's just me. I haven't had any issues with battery life and I haven't had to freeze or remove any app..
Perhaps you can tell me what apps or services you'd like to freeze or delete and I can tell you my experience with them?
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Well so far when I freeze media center and DRM's I get a LOT LOT LOT better battery life (like 50%) [nero v5]
@Demize, I don't know anything in particular
I froze wifi calling. Even when it was disabled it would use 2-5% cpu for no apparent reason.

visual voicemail (use google voice obv)
Don't freeze or delete visual voicemail even if you don't use it, you will have a virtual parade of shutdowns. It's tied into other critical services. Don't mess with G talk or you will have market headaches beyond your wildest dreams.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Thanks for this guys. Keep them coming, im getting a good amount of battery life more.
I'm new to freezing stuff. I have a couple questions.
1. What does DRM stand for? (ie what am I looking for to freeze)
2. The phone must be rooted in order to use Titanium Pro to freeze, correct?
1. DRM = Digital Rights Management
2. Yes
I have visual voicemail uninstalled and google talk frozen. Have had no problems with my phone in over 24 hours.

p.s. I have rebooted many times incase your wondering.

My friend and I both bought the SGS2 two weeks ago approximately. However, just today we noticed that his phone drops 10% (from 100% to 90%) in 2 hours without using the phone at all (it is in stand-by mode). Mine does not. I went into the "Battery usage" portion in settings on both of the phones, and this is what came up. (My phone is to the right, his is to the left).

Also, why does mine have "Android OS" under the battery usage, and he does not have this listed?
Why does his phone drop faster in battery than mine? Is there something wrong with it? What can it be?
Also, which ways are the best to preserve and save battery on this phone?
I really want to figure out this. Thank you all in advance.

Take a look at this post http://softbanksucks.blogspot.com/2011/10/getting-most-out-of-your-battery-on.html
Most likely he has some app that is keeping the phone from sleeping. Read this post to help you narrow down what is causing the issue. I used to have the same problem.
I went to "Applications > Running...", and here is what it says on mine:

(Edit: I turned off/on the phone and FotaClient and Voice command went away, as well as the Task manager. However, when I started Task manager again and went out of it, it said it was still running under the "Still running applications". What I usually do after going out of apps etc, is holding down the back button to get into task manager, and then "exit active applications".... So the question is; how come so many things are still running after I've stopped them via task manager?... How do one close applications properly?)
(Edit: After switching the phone off/on, I went to task manager and went to "RAM", and then "clear" > and it said it closed 16 programs!!!! What kind of programs are these? I tried again after a little while, and it said it closed 2 programs. I did this again, and it said it closed 2 programs...)

Those are all running services. Research to see which ones you don't need and then use Titanium backup freeze them all so they don't start.
Also use cpuspy to see if the phone is in fact going to "deep sleep".
Link in my sig of all the apps and what they do.
Only way to stop then its to root and use titanium backup or Gemini app manager to freeze them or Gemini can also change the auto runs of aps.

I think there are some differences in phones.
I could have compared 2 different galaxies. My gf has the white which was bought a month ago and my is black which was bought in May.
I have modified my phone completely and her is stock. Nothing changed and all those stupid hubs and facebooks running.
I have tried to tweak everything possible and still the result is that her phone drops during night (approx 7 hours) about 1% while my phone the best I ever got is 5%, usually even worse.
I have no idea why is this. I remember that when I had the stock running the battery also wasn't so great. So jealous to my gfs phone because she can go about 3 days without charging (yes she also doesn't use it that much but even if I don't touch my phone at all it can last just 2 days). So something fishy in some models I would say.
Your stats seem bad because you barley used your phone during the nine hours. Your friends phone dropped so "fast" because he made a phone call. Nothing unusual.

Do you have more apps logged in that can be doing background data?
Cpuspy and betterbatterystats will pinpoint the issue. All of the Samsung apps suck with wake locks also.

Has anybody found a way to disable the facebook background services? I don't want it constantly searching for my location and I don't use notifications or the picture upload.
I just check facebook manually from time to time and don't want it hanging out in ram.
Have you tried going into Facebook setting and clicking "never" for refresh interval? Also make sure location is off for messenger services.

Grab the app "rom toolbox pro" from the play store. It's gonna cost a few bucks, but it has a section to disable apps in a function called auto start manager, and will stop a background services at will, but still allows the app to be opened up and used if you want.
I wish titanium backup would do this, but no luck.
There is a free version of rom toolbox pro, but I'm unsure if that will allow the disable feature. it's worth a shot though...good luck..g
Or...you could flash ics and use the built in options...

I don't think the Kill option for ICS will kill the background process. And the issue is even if you kill it, it will auto restart after a while. (I am running the ICS leak rom)
If Rom Tool Box can disable the service then there has got to a command line option to do the same....

Ok, so I found this... You need to open a terminal and then SU first...
pm disable com.facebook.katana/com.facebook.katana.service.UploadManager
This disables the MediaUpload service.
But then I started facebook manually, and closed it and now I had 5 services running. lovely...
Looks like Facebook now wants to track your location too.
So I tried using Facebook through the stock browser and you know what? Its pretty damn close to the App now, without all of the crap running in the background.
Uninstalling Facebook App, bye bye

Darn, so this is the only way?
The problem is... Facebook isn't the only application that auto restarts. I have a half dozen that do.
How can I prevent these things from restarting?
I think all these background processes result in my very poor battery life on an S2. I get around 10-11 hours with light use.

or if you are using FB only sometimes, you can freeze it in your favorite app and in the case you need it to run just unfreeze it I know it's not the best solution but for your purposes I think is suitable
If you can disable 1 fb background process, then it is also possible to disable them all, right?
I tried using ROM toolbox pro, but facebook automatically starts again

Is there really no way?? With MIUI and the "force close" option (long press back button) and blocking the rest with autostarts, the FB APP doesn't start the background service.. Now i'm on CM10.1 and searching too a solution.
Greatz!

Does anyone have any clue why "Android OS" and "Google Services" are taking up so much of my battery? I have only used my phone for periodic texting during the day, I reboot it every morning, and I have location services all disabled in Google Maps.
I did a full wipe and reinstall of Beans 17, I have 72 apps installed, pretty much nothing has changed on my phone but within the last week or two my battery life has been getting worse and worse. Does anyone have any thoughts?

My guess is it could be one of those 72 apps you got. Maybe there was an update for one of them and is now causing battery drain.

I try to limit myself to the number of apps I have just for this reason, and I reboot my phone every morning so any apps I use aren't always running in the background. I didn't launch any apps other than Google Play Music, stock SMS app, and Foursquare. I really have no idea why the phone isn't going to sleep for half the time it's on battery.

I had an issue with my phone app preventing my phone from entering into deep sleep mode, once I cleared the data, the problem went away. So have you tried clearing the google services data?
UPDATED.....
For those of you who are experiencing your google services draining your battery with all location tracking features turned off on your device, there is a play store update date called 4.1.10 that will replace 4.1.6 that has location bug battery draining issue. In my particular case it is the nlp wakelock service that is constantly running, which falls within the google services.
The download can be obtained from Android Police website http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/05...-store-4-1-10/. You can simply install this apk file through the normal installation process of install apps.
I think its Google music. Ever since the update it has been a problem for me. Make sure when you aren't using it you kill it. For some reason it uses a lot more battery than spotify. I stream music 8 to 10 hours a day so I feel the pain when my battery takes a hit.

All options to do so are greyed out. It accumulates about 500KiB of storage and network data a day despite the actual app being disabled (and not once ever being launched ) the only thing I can do is clear the storage data.
This really bothers me.

Answer to facebook services on Andriod
I recently upgraded to the Galaxy S6, and wanted to remove any of the bloatware on the device. I disabled the FB app first, since I don't use it on any of my mobile devices. I then came across the com.facebook.appmanager and com.facebook.system applications listed under the application manager on the device. I first stopped and uninstalled the two apps, but I found that they both will update on their own over wi-fi once it's connected. I can't disable the two apps as that option is greyed out. I believe the answer to this is in the permissions of the appmanager stating that it may
1: Download files without notification
2: full network access
3: run at startup
Curiously after I have attempted to kill the app on any occasion that I'm using the device, I received an email from FB stating that they're sorry that I'm having trouble getting into my account. So, in conclusion, the apps must be gathering data (at least all configured email accounts) from the device and sending it to FB. Once FB identifies that an email address on the device matches an email account in their database, it sends the email. Looks like my next step is to root the device.

i tried removing this in my note 4 using titanium backup. sad to say it is making my auto rotate functionality unusable. it took me half day troubleshooting and identifying whats making auto rotate faulty. Why does Samsung loves bloatware? Its making me frustrated as i want to stay on touchwiz but it has so many bloatware. I dont want to go on other roms as majority of them are buggy. Does anybody know any solution with my problem? I dont want any freeze/disable solution pls.....

I've heard about this before in a different thread. It's something to do with a lib that's in the app. Try renaming the apk to bak see if that works, might keep the lib

Just disable it and you are done
Facebook wont self update anymore
And com.facebook.system
Same problem
I tried app called package disabler pro. There i searched for all com.facebook app/processes and disabled them. Now i dont see them any more in my process list in setting. The app costs littlebit but if it doesnt work, you can ask for you money back. It can also disable almost any bloatware.

Hi,
If you're not rooted, just disable it. From my experience, it has something to do with Facebook auto update. I personally doesn't use the Facebook apk itself, I once disable it but it later come back with latest version installed. So you are fine to disable com.facebook.appmanager. However, if you're rooted, better not to uninstall these Facebook related services/apk. Again, from my experience, I might be WRONG, I once uninstall them completely, my air wake up (waking up the phone by hover over your proximity sensor) doesn't work anymore.
Conclusion: you can disable them just fine.
hello,
This has been driving me crazy recently.
I do not want to install google maps new updates from play store.
I have all apps set to "do not auto update apps", currently i can see that there is a new google maps update pending but something odd is happening.
I am happy with version 10.60.1, which normally looks like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But recently for some reason maps layout changed to this:
and drives me mad, i have not updated of course and this seems to happen automatically even after a few hours now or immediately after. So i usually roll back to factory version and then force an installation with APK mirror, which woks well for a while but not anymore. The first time i had the installation from google play original version etc and this happened all of a sudden.
Which is the "new" layout and is driving me mad, as i really don't like it and you cannot go fullscreen in walk mode if you don't do navigation which is awful, plain crap. Would it be possible to know:
1. Why is this happening? are they force feeding us updates even though you have updates blocked?
2. When it does this sneaky update, why when you go to about > google maps > it still shows 10.60.1
3. CAN I BLOCK THIS FOR GOOD?
Many thanks to anybody for some feedback/help.
Best,
Gabrio
Set Playstore to wifi download only; keep wifi off.
Or disable Playstore.
heh, i have set it to
Auto update apps: DON'T auto-update apps.
hmhm disabling playstore is a bit extreme, would be good to block maps updating only and stick to that version i like.. now seems i cannot put it back.
it's either the aging version 9 or after installing 10.6.1 it just goes back to that crappy new look
Playstore is crapware. Always running in the background.
3rd method; block with Karma Firewall.
If you are rooted, Detach the app from the playstore.

thank you - i gave a go to the Karma Firewall and something interesting happened...
downgraded maps to factory, installed Karma, blocked Play store, put back app - nothing it still did the nasty silent change.
So i did another thing, i removed it again, then went airplane mode this time, installed the app and it was perfect, NO silent change, but obviously not feasible to use airplane mode lol.
then went normal mode (with Karma on), and it still did the nasty upgrade!
so i removed it a 3rd time, with the block in play store still (no change), no airplane mode and this time seems to stick, no silent upgrade and it's as i wanted to be.... only time will tell now and completely blocking play store is not ideal either, sometimes you need it but peace for now.
What i don't really understand is: my wife has the exact same phone, exact same version of the app, although we rarely use her phone driving etc, and they do not push the silent upgrade, i wonder why?
Is that because of usage patterns so they can see i am more "active" so they give me that new ****?
thanks again for input!

thanks, i will check it out
On most phones, your GPS is WiFI assisted, so turning it on & off will be best as you move in and out of registered WiFI that you can connect with. You probably would not wish to block the playstore completely, as that will also stop all your other apps from updating.
People have the same problem you have with Googles Maps, but with Googles YouTube. People install Vanced (ie no in-video ads) and detach YouTube to stop Googles YouTube from auto updating. Some people have tried all sorts of things, and it still gets updated, while others simply need to turn off the selected apps auto-update )although even these people lose it when the playstore updates itself). The Playstore is a black-box, so its hard to know why different people experience different results.
I have used my detach for a long time on YouTube (and a few other apps) without any updates breaking through, and so have many others. The main thing to ensure is that Maps is attached correctly before you detach it. Which in your case, sounds very much the case.
Google maps is a new one to me for detaching, so I would be interested to here how you go. I am pretty certain the detach will work, just never heard it being used for Maps. Totally not the answer for YOU, but I personally went for a different navigation software (Waze in my case). As google maps always put me on main roads with a higher risk of congestion. But for that, its a lot easier to miss a turn, into a tiny side street.
great thank you - so far so good, the block on the Karma firewall seems to hold. have to get used not to use play store anymore but im happy gmaps is not updated.
i've heard good things about Waze, if gmaps still bothers me, it's out of the windows, cheers
thanks everybody for info!
