Now that developers have enabled dualtouch, is it possible to enable flash in the camera, i think that is one of the last things left unresolved on x10!!
updates are coming for 2.2 froyo.

There is a lot of talk propagated on forums that the jump from 1.6 to 2.1 is much bigger than that from 2.1 to 2.2. This is an absolute falsehood. I have been doing some fact finding and have discovered that this is totally untrue. There is in fact very little difference apart from the performance boost between 1.6 and 2.1. Live wallpapers are not exactly going to make that big a difference to the end user experience. Indeed most of the settings and functionality changes in 2.1 from 1.6 were compensated for by SE by adding road sync and the back up and restore app to the X10 family.
Now with 2.2, there is a much to talk about that would improve the end user experience for example, the built in flash support (end user can watch almost all of online video content). Wifi and USB tethering straight out of the box. This will greatly reduce the need by many to root their phones as rooting can cause problems for some especially when it comes to software updating. I know because I have experienced these problems and know that others too have experienced the same from different forums. I could not unroot my phone by re-installing the software using SE update service or PC companion which are the prescribed methods of unrooting. I had to flash my phone with the generic uk firmware using omnius. Finally 2.2 allows you to install apps directly onto the SD card which is just great.
Taking all these things into consideration, the 2.1 update from SE would totally useless unless SE as they did with 1.6 compensate by adding a few apps to perform these functions. This is unlikely with flash support and possibly the installation of apps to SD card, but I think an app for wifi and usb tethering would be an almost necessary addition to make their 2.1 update anything other than just defunct.
With 2.1 comes
Bluetooth file transfers
Live wallpapers
Better Battery Backup
Support for applications like Launcher Pro(Which is needed)..
New Camera Interface
And many extra features missing in 1.6

do you think the mini/mini pro gets live wallpapers????
some device with same cpu has not got it
To be honest, I'm only looking forward to the 2.1 update so I can use LauncherPro Although live wallpapers would be a nice addition.
no multi-touch with 2.1?

yes the same here now i use adw on mini pro and x10
As far as i know we will never get multi-touch from SE for the x10 mini. Yes it can do it, but due to the fact the X10 and the X10 mini pro cannot, we will never get multi-touch.
The screen is very small yes, and that will reduce the need for multi-touch, but in my opinion, only slightly, because pinch n zoom for web browsing wouldnt really be effected by the small screen. Picture munipulation would also be fine with the small screen.
I think SE just dont want the X10mini to have something the X10 cannot have.
But this begs the question...
WHY INCUDE A MULTI-TOUCH DISPLAY THEN?

These additions are very minor when compared with what 2.2 brings to the table. That's why I posted that the belief that 1.6 to 2.1 was a bigger upgrade than 2.1 to 2.2 was totally false. I have since checking out the 2.1 feature set, lost all enthusiasm for the 2.1 upgrade.
•The current plan is that the XperiaTM X10 will get the Android standard Camera user interface and therefore features like e.g. face recognition, smile shutter etc will be lost.
•Moxier is replaced by the gingerbread native EAS functionality.
•Mediascape is being replaced by the media experience widgets and music player included in our new 2011 products.
•DRM keys for protected content on your phone will be lost in the upgrade process.
•The Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore client is not supported in the Gingerbread version and will therefore be lost.
•Support for bi-directional languages will be reduced compared to the latest version of the 2.1 version of the XperiaTM X10.
hello x10 users!
first off all im not againts the updates of s.e, but kinda confusing about the 1st line above...
ive been using 2.1 stock camera for such a long time imo its a very unique app.
thats why i bought my x10 (camera) cause i travel a lot.
somebody told me that "dont you know android camera is much better"..
is it really true? can somebody give me a link that comparing x10 camera and the standard android camera.
is that we really want? getting to GB and lose the uniqueness of our x10?
and lastly after the so called GB update sony will not update x10 anymore
P'S
Dont answer me that you can flash back if you dont want it..
I just noticed that mine isn't working under applications. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there any fix?
1. there are already threads on this
2. it is a supposed known bug in HC 1 guy said
3. but I do know for a fact a kernel must be cooked in such a way so as to give the details beyond just system resources and it looks like Asus did not cook their kernel to pass on app usage, just system processes
4. ICS has a much more advanced charting and graphing built in function, I just pray Asus carries that over into our ICS release and updates their kernel to handle it
It doesn't work in ICS either.
Does anyone have any before/after pictures, or have an opinion as to how bad it gets?
1. take a picture with the stock sony camera app
2. take a picture with any other camera app on play store, for example Google camera https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera
3. transfer both pictures to your computer
4. look at them and see for yourself
Oh I didn't realise you could do that. The Google Camera photo I took looks, if anything, better
Thanks for your help. No reason not to flash then, cheers.

Its just about one chip on the motherboard which reduce the amount of pixel noise in the image and its only the stock sony camera app that can use the server interface to send data back and forth to this chip. If you flash any sony based rom you can now flash a .zip file with the lib files and server apk to make the chip work again even if you unlocked your bootloader.
But to me..its a stupid gimmick that just ruins the image. This is not a camera phone.
You can find the mod in the cross dev forum part. Nothing special really... keep moving towards the lollipop roms :silly: those are the fun around here
the camera on this phone is nothing to write home about... stock or AOSP...
We won't see any better photos on the Ultra until we get the camera2 API implemented, which allows RAW capture and better control of the sensor. Only the Nexus 5 and 6 are supported right now as far as I know.
The issue today is that Sony is controlling the camera hardware and its software, so it's impossible to reduce or change anything major. Camera2 in Lollipop changes this, giving regular third party devs direct access to the camera hardware, and with that we can potentially use the sensor, which shouldn't be that bad, to its fullest. Snapping photos in RAW would for example eliminate the freaking compression that Sony uses.
Did someone find a working apk of Google Camera for Android 8.1? I found several, but all of them crash.

Hi,
Sorry for asking, but what's the difference between the default YotaCamera and the Google Camera app?
@vevgeniev
Which GCam versions have you tried so far? Are all of them crashing? I would try first the versions for 8.1 and below.
@Yotafreak
The potential difference would be huge. Like night and day. The Yota camera app is quite bad. The image is always underexposed, colours are lacking and if it's dark, it's dark. The camera is also very slow. I found some 3rd party (paid) apps (e.g. Footej Camera and others) produce better images and shoot way faster pictures, but the images were not stabilized. The phone has good hardware and lens but the camera is not.
The difference factor would be whether Google Camera works and whether it works with Camera2API in Yota 3+. That is apparently the case so I came across this post and seems 3.2.040 works on Yota 3+. I tested on my Yota 3+ and yes it does work. So far I haven't seen any difference in quality though, but the weather isn't good to test these days, so I may have to dig further.

Here are various versions but the one mentioned above is not listed here, not sure:

If you have Yota 3 (not 3+) I wouldn't mess with that phone. You can expect Yota 3 (Chinese release) may not work the same way as 3+. There is some talk there about that ... "And after a patch to activate it, the camera stops working altogether." On the other hand, there are mods of the Gcam that enable the GCam to work on any any phone without Camera2API. "To Use Google Camera, the smartphone should have enabled Camera2API, if not then it should be rooted but now you no need to do these things to use GCam for your low end Devices because Google Camera Go Port is available for all Smartphones without rooting, unlocking bootloader or enabling Camera2 API on them." But you still could use either the mods of Google Camera or the Camera Go Mods.
Camera Go mods (unrelated to Google Camera) question here... https://www.cyanogenmods.org/google-camera-go-apk-download/
To check your camera, you can run app called Camera2 Probe to confirm if the phone supports Camera2API to verify.
Yota 3+ ... Hardware Support Level 3
Yota 3 ... would probably say Limited
The Google Camera 3.2.040 doesn't seem to have any of the features of the GCam app in later Pixel phones... e.g.
Portrait Mode on all smartphones, on front and back both.
Night Mode
Beauty (Face Enhance) Mode
Astrophotography feature
Blur mode (object portrait)
Flash Mode
Self timer
Video Mode
Translate Mode
4K video
My objective is to replace the Yota camera app, I am not so much concerned with the additional features GCal can offer. I just want a better picture that's all.
There are also number of mods of GCam so there is a chance there are some that work...

But wait, that's not all. Here are some more .. enough testing for whole year in case the quarantine is extended.

And some more...

Somebody says this is working for better shots but some functions not available.
MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.2_TlnNeun-1.apk
That's in-line with what I see with 3.2.040 is the pictures didn't look spectacularly different and it had missing features. Since better shots is all I care about, I may give it a try.. But too many to try.. As long as it doesn't brick the phone, I am willing to test the higher versions.
If you happen to find one that has good results, I would appreciate if you could share.
@itoldusoandso
Thanks a lot for the information!
So I found on a device without Camera2API and with a decent manufacturer's camera app already installed is the Google Camera without any effect. The only small difference I have seen is in night shot mode seems, it seems to improve the night shots in Google Camera slightly but not significantly enough. So unless you need to do a lot of pictures without flash after sunset.. makes little sense. The device I tested was Samsung A7 20017, so it's a low-mid range device. Samsung camera app is acceptable so I couldn't see difference between that at Google Camera.
