Used this the other day b/c I was too afraid to tether for fear of AT&T pwning me.

I used to use Astro for this also, but now prefer linda file manager. Only because a lot of times the downloads would default as an astro file and force me into astro. Linda doesn't do that.

Bumpin this topic for everyone who doesent know they can do that

Before I discovered that trick I was using Opera Mobile 10 browser (freeware). It was especially useful for some sites like filesonic, fileserve etc. that other browsers have trouble with. Ok, it has trouble displaying a few websites and sometimes when I disable mobile view I still get re-directed to mobile websites.
But dammit it sure can download!

[Q] File downloads

I want to download files into my Vibrant via the browser. These files are various types, like .zip, .rar, and so on. However, when I start the download, the phone tells me it cannot be downloaded because it's not a supported format. How do I get around this issue? I really want to do this, as the 3G download rates are much better than what I have available at home (no 3G there either!).
Same boat
I would also like to know why.... I wanted to download with wifi but the "file not supported" keeps showing up when I want to download a rar file.
This issue has been asked and answered here quite a few times. Please download linda file manager and make sure you have the download plugin option turned on. If it is on and still not working, turn the option off and back on again.
It may have been asked and answered many times but it not show up when I searched. But thanks nonetheless!
Not trying to flame you or beat you up. Just trying to help you. Hopefully it works for you without any issues.
Not to worry, it just annoyed me that the search didn't work, or I don't know how to use it... It would have saved me a lot of time. By the way, it appears the Linda File manager is no longer a Market app and I couldn't find it anywhere else. I did find Astro fiile manager and that works just fine!
There are buttons at the bottom of the page that go to the next page, and the next, and the next... You can also put 50 threads per page and scan through faster.. That's how I search the vibrant section.. Not that many pages to scroll through...

It's been asked yes but.... to answer your question, download Astro File Manager from the Market, launch Astro, and then hit menu, go to preferences i think, then scroll down towards the bottom i think you will see a setting about "All File Types" or something like that.

wow must have "sh*t on me" stamped on me.

Ok....very frustrating morning. A simple task as sending a torrent from me evo to my vibrant and have had nothing but headaches. The attachment sent but can't be touch in the gmail app on the vibrant running eclair. I can't update gmail thru the market cuz they're idiots. Wth? Why isn't there an update avail for it? Any assistance please. I can't update my firmware cuz the vibrant isn't activated. The Rom manager only gives me one Rom avail for the vibrant.
Thanks in advance....now I got to go get rounded before the hulk comes to play....so frustrated! Lol
Sometimes if I can't download a file with my email, I go through my browser to mail.google.com and it will download the attchment.
[Q] If the vibrant isn't activated can you even access the market or the web?
download ASTRO FILE MANAGER FROM MARKET go to settings scroll down all the way check option allow download , np . ( downlaod astro file manager from any site if not market paste it on your sd and run it)
Ya I saw ppl resorted to browser download but what's the point of having the app for convenience. Yes insured unknown app DL was enabled, still no gmail attachment DL. Guys has no one ever dealt with this? Why isn't there an update? How can i bypass this? My vibrant phone isn't activated to network but still usable as a tablet along side my HTC evo. Never had any issue like this before.
i have not have problerm downloading thing that are less than 5 mb not sure about about goin above it
and i download full roms on my phone from web pages

Sorry but this is for downloads. My issue is gmail and attachments...but thanks.
Ok after having to go to system panel to find any SW vers since no body thinks of these scenarios. I have v1.3 (r130) I try to search in tmo market no luck but HTC market has v2.3.2. Wth! This is why a company who depends on ad revenue only shouldn't be counted on for assistance and follow thru....ranting sorry. Thanks for the help again

Knock on your provider/OEM door - Google is not responsible for whatever OEM/carrier does with its OS.
Ummm ya they do. Sprint don't go in and add restrictions, its Google on be half of Sprint. Obviously there is a bug some where. Is there really no assistance on this? Feel like Samsung dev has been neglected. I doubt Samsung will direct exactly to the apk file. And if youve managed to speak with Google, you are of the divine! Cuz those fully automated omnipotent bastards are of no help!
Seriously? There is no way to correct this gmail problem? Just never gonna have attachments? I know if anybody had this issue there would be a post of some kind, but search has turned up nothing. What is the current version of gmail for vibrants? thanks for help guys
because torrents arent meant to be on cell phones... probly why gmail wont do it, jus use a file manager like they said above, and the carriers do lock down the OS... thats why we had to wait for tmo's froyo instead or google or sansung's
Hmmm helpful.... thanks guys : /

Downloads don't download with default browser

Is it just me who can't seem to get complete downloads when they download a file with the default browser? The only browser that seems to download downloads fully is Opera ?
Another minor problem is that Google maps keeps appearing in my recent apps list for some reason despite closing it down.
Search for "download all files" in the market that should fix ur problems

Stock browser downloads just fine for me. It downloads to Downloads folder. Of course Opera mobile is the best for downloading though. It lets you choose exactly where you want file to download everytime and it seems to download things the fastest. Stock browser downloading does work though.
It downloads the file, it's just incomplete. Like a 5mb file will come out as a 22.6kb file and I won't be able to do anything with it. It seems to happen mostly with .zip files.

OK, I see what you saying now. I never tried a zip file on it. I have tried bigger files like videos n seemed to work. I usually just use opera mobile for any heavy duty downloading as it never fails usually. I just downloaded that "Download All Files" app from the marketplace. It says its like a browser plugin in supports all types of files to be downloaded. Might come in handy if I'm not using opera.

I just tested it out using stock browser. Thing is, stock browser will download it. Then if you click on it in notification area, it'll ask you what method to use. So I choose download all files method. Then it comes up n allows me to choose what folder I want to save to. So I save gain n works. But I use Astro explorer to make sure it put it in the right place and actually eneded up having 2 copies. One from whenbstock browser itself downloaded to downloads folder. Then the other one where I told the new download all files app to out it at. So I manually had to delete one version.
I think that app may be more for a browser without a built in downloaded. OR ELSE you just have to double check n make sure everything you downloading is double. Or I can see this as if the download fails in stock browser, then you can click it n use other method. I haven't had anything fail yet to really try that out.
Firefox will be able to download your file if the stock browser won't work.
I've got the same problem on my TF201. Opera Mobile does download the same file whereas the default browser and Chrome Beta fail as do the rest (FireFox and Dolphhin).

How I Got Flash Working On My Nexus 10 Browsers

I have Flash working on my Nexus 10 using the latest versions of the Dolphin browser and the Skyfire browser downloaded from the Play Store and I am able to watch video clips on the BBC Web site and the TVCatchup Web site without needing to root the Nexus 10 or use a seperate iPlayer application.
I have the Dolphin browser Agent set to "Desktop" and in the Web Content setting I have the Flash Player set to "Always on".
I have the Skyfire browser set to "Load Pages As:" Desktop and "Enable Plug-ins" Always On.
I attach a copy of the Flash apk that I use and which needs to be "side-loaded" to the "Download" folder in the "My Files" folder then install using a file manager such as Astro by clicking it.
I've not been able to get Flash working on the Chrome browser or the Opera Mobile browser this way and l could not play the BBC clips using the Boat browser but I could watch TVCatchup.
I hope this way of getting Flash on the Nexus 10 browsers works for you too and if so then please show your gratitude by using the thanks button.

Thanks for the info. I'm using dolphin also... Quick question, can you pleas elaborate on the step above? I've never rooted or used Astro before, so I'm a little green. I know this doesn't require root, but you see where I'm coming from... I think the side loading step is basically downloading the file to the N10, but the Astro part is not as clear. Also, if you go to ESPN.com using Dolphin, can you play those videos?

Flash is off by default on Dolphin 9.0.3 for android 4.1 or higher and is not selectable. How did you enable it in JB?

Download Astro from the Play Store and when you runi it then it will show you the folders on the Nexus 10 and you will find the Download folder iwhere the Flash player is saved in the My Files folder under Folders.
The video clips on ESPN.com do not play unfortunately, but I don't know why not

Thanks. I was able to install Astro from Google Play. I followed your instructions and installed flash. My ESPN videos still won't play, but I have no idea why. For some reason, I thought it would if flash was installed...

Was able to get flash finally working on Boat browser, but I have the same issue with Dolphin unfortunately. It won't allow me to enable flash as it gives me the dialog box telling me of Android's discontinued support.

The flash player loads, but it then tells me that the content is unavailable due o it not being authorized for playback on the device.
Do you think this might be possible with the regular Android browser that other devices have?
I used the same apk from another source with Maxthon browser, works perfect on all media I have tried.

Yes same here with Maxthon and the Stock Android Browser. With the exception (so far) of ESPN. I'm getting sound but no video with both browsers.
I've got flash working on Dolphin. The flash player setting is set to "on demand", and I can't change it. I get the "flash is disabled because its no longer supported." message, but the setting stays at "on demand".
"On demand" was the setting I used on my previous tablet, and when I switched to the N10, I backed up my old Dolphin settings with Titanium Backup and restored them on the N10, so that's probably how the setting got stuck that way.
So it looks like the answer for using flash on Dolphin is to use Titanium Backup and a backup file from a pre-Jellybean device. Of course you need to be rooted for that.
Just get the older version of Dolphin from here and everything will work lawlessly:

Tested on several websites and didn't have any problem, except ESPN, but over there it is a different issue.

OK so I got my flash working without root access ' what I did was side load flash ' then used boat browser and set the flash to always and user agent to desktop. But I will say it runs so bad guys , its very slow and I assume it has to do with the screen res and how much it has to download at the same time, using it also drained my battery heavily and made the back end really hot lol wait for a html5 to catch up lol that's what I say.

Works wit Firefox too
I just got this to work with Firefox. I had to remove and reinstall FF after side loading flash. Dolphin had to be done the same way, and in no way did any of this work for me until after I updated to 4.2.1. I updated dolphin to the latest version once I got it to work and the darn update turned flash off... So I got rid a dolphin and kept Firefox because ff is @ the latest version.

[Q] Can I make my EVO look like a pc to web sites?

I assume I'd need to root, which I'm working on in just a bit, but is there a way to make my EVO be recognized as a pc to web sites? Where I'm going with this is some sites like Hulu, slingbox, etc will only let you view things on a PC, or will make you pay for an app to run it on any device other than a PC. I want to be able to run these through my browser and have the site think it's just going to a PC so it will allow it.
Thanks so much for any help!
Yes... Certain browsers like Dolphin Browser allows you to change your user agent which will make ur phone appear as an iPhone, Windows desktop and so on.
Hit the Thanks button if this helps you

Maxton Browser which I use gives u the option to load page in Pc desktop mode and other different modes.
Same with Google Chrome.

The stock one will allow you to do it as well, type about:debug in address bar then go to settings find ua string and set it to desktop
For hulu to work ur need a hacked version of flash, as hulu does a couple checks, I attached one from captain throwback below,
Thanks guys, It worked, kind of. I was mainly trying to get slingbox to work. I tried the Dolphin browser and that worked other than now it needs to be able to download the player to view and from what I see it's trying to download one for windows but the player won't work on the droid so I would have to download the app anyway.
