My eris has worked FINE for the 1 year and 7 months that i've had it. Never got a replacement, has been rooted for, oh, 6 months?
Why do i feel like i got the only defective eris ever produced? I mean, the "norm" seems to be an eris that lasts 8-12 months, yet mine is absolutely perfect after 19 with HEAVY usage each day (my battery's dead by 9 pm with around 30% brightness)?
My upgrade is supposed to kick in sometime in march, and i'll be switching to the Thunderbolt because of the Eris' obvious tech limitations. Just wanted to know why i seem to be the lucky one, or, depending how you look at it, the unlucky one
Didn't the Eris come out just under 15 months ago?
I've had mine just over 13 months myself, with very heavy use. I did but the 1750 extended battery in early January 2010. Mine still works perfectly as well. Trackball is perfect. (Knocking wood as I type this - I'd rather upgrade when I can.)
I have had the same one since Dec. of 09. The only problem that I have had is the paint came off of the ear speaker. I just cleaned the rest of the paint off.
Got mine on the release day - Nov 6, 2009 iirc
Dropped it twice onto concrete from about mid-thigh height, and I got knocked into the ocean once with it (it was inside *two* ziploc bags, but it sounds awesome to say that ).
Chuggin' along just like the day it was new.
I received one replacement early on because I was hoping to get a rootable phone (and it was dropping calls like mad, but that's irrelevant)
I've had my current phone for over a year now and I love it. I've tried Tenzo, Tazz, Conap, and Kaos ROMs and dug all of them for varying reasons. The cool thing about this group is that we have so many dev's that put out something different out of love and the burning desire to tinker for us to enjoy and play with. We've had great themers, app developers (I'm looking at you Conap with your awesome CPUBoost!), and ROM developers. I couldn't be happier with this little phone
So, I join you folks that have a working phone and like it!
Have had mine 12+ months. Works great. Trackball started pulling to the left yesterday :-(
Have to perform a trackball-ectomy.
Dropped it on asphalt last summer and cracked the digitizer. Replaced it from a defective unit off ebay$40. Will replace tball and usb port with my spare parts if the pull gets worse.
Other than that, I've beat the bell out of it, flash a new rom every week. Goes naked, no case or jelly, burn up 6 hours or more of on time a day and sometimes I even make a phone call!
Killer phone for$ $25.00 (.....and $1500.00 contract)
Its my main go-to computer

If you have one of the strong units then it will never break. Mine has been dropped so many times on concrete and tile that I no longer fear for it. (In a zip-lock bag) I've brought it into rivers and springs and it even has the original battery which runs swell with a little calibration here and there. So sit tight, short of taking a hammer to it, it probably won't die. (That's a good thing )

I highly doubt its the norm and message boards are magnets for people voicing complaints. I can speak from personal experience of 6 eris which were all bought at the same time (mine, wifes, wifes cousin and three co-workers who all got ours within a week of each other 9-10 months ago). Of the six eris 3 owners had complaints, one complained until they got verizon to replace it with something else and three are still happy with it. NONE of them actually had any hardware issue. ALL the complaints have been known software bugs or simply shortcomings of an unrooted entry level phone. none except me have any idea what rooting is much less XDA. I'm almost certain a) many eris being replaced dont actually have broken hardware and b) for every person on a message board that has had one, two, four replacements there are 100s more who's eris are still working fine. It doesn't take a large percentage to be classified as unreliable. If one in every ten of ANYTHING failed it would be considered and utter failure in reliability regardless of the 90% working perfectly fine.
I really have not had a problem with mine. Had it about a year.
Trackballectomy seems a success. Actually I replaced the usb port and cleaned the Tball and rollers with alcohol and made sure the circuitboard for the usb was fastened down tight to hold it in place.
Phone actually seems more responsive. I had been thinking, the Tball was sending errant commands, lagging and locking the phone up at times.
I wonder how many rom complaints might be the result of a Tball with a mind of its own??

Same here, I've had mine for about a year now. I got it in the middle of February. Worked fine right through the OTA and through rooting it, as well. And since I've rooted it and installed a bunch of stuff and uninstalled a bunch of other stuff, it runs even better. I'm happy I've never had any trackball issues, or the dreaded "silent bug" that has plagued a number of Erises. I've dropped it a few times, and its got a few scratches, but it still runs faster than the day I got it. The only thing I wish is that it ran certain games a little better...I may look into overclocking it a bit to get it to run some of the games I have for Snesoid. Cause what else is there to do while in college? =P
I have had mine since 12/09 and love it. Actually the reason I went ahead and tried rooting (after lurking around here for about 2 months) was the fact that it is not top of the line and we had replaced the digitizer in my husband's phone. I figured if we could figure out how to tear the hardware all the way apart rooting with 1 click root and following directions on how to install a rom were easy.
Otherwise, risking losing my little gem of a phone would have scared the bejezus out of me. (I am not fond of the 4+ inch screens.)
I haven't had a screen protector or case on my phone ever. I am not the most careful.
Hi, All!
I have been reading this forum for a while. Been debating whether or not to root my phone finally. I have had my Droid Eris since mid Nov 2009 with no major problems. I decided this past weekend to take the plunge and root my phone. Had a few bugs with the ROM I picked out, but otherwise I am happy I decided to go down this road.
I've had mine since launch day, and haven't had a single issue. I rooted it in about March/April '09. I've always wondered the difference between mine and everyone who was having a lot of issues. People were going through 4 and 5 Eris' and I was wondering why mine has been so solid. My theory is that they used high quality components during initial production, but once they saw the D1 sell faster than the Eris, scaled back on costs and started to use lower quality hardware. However I think the trackball issues people have been having is just a design flaw. I'm guessing mine hasn't gone out because I really never use it

Hi! Welcome to the rooted Eris club!!! Not that you asked, but I just wanted to suggest, if you haven't already tried, either the xtrSENSE or xtrROM ROMs, in that order so it's not such a "culture shock" to go to a nearly no sense version of the otherwise stock-BASED ROM.
I've been running Froyo ROMs for several months now, but I'm about ->| |<- this close to going back to one of those two, which despite the advantages or differences of Froyo-based ROMs, overall gave me the best and bug free experience.

^ very sound advice.
The xtrROM/xtrSENSE ROMs seem to be the closest to the stock ROM/ SENSE ui that I've come across.
I keep finding myself reverting back to them after using some of the froyo ROM's out there just because they seem to be the most consistent for me. There are a few particular features of the froyo ROM's that keep drawing me back but each ROM I've tried hasn't quite left me feeling fulfilled quite like the xtr versions. I keep switching around and trying them out and the dev's for their respective ROM's are majorly talented guys and they've done a tremendous job of breathing life back into our eris'.
Give me xtrROM but with the additions of froyo/CM perks like battery % listed in notification bar, and control toggles in the notification bar and I'm there.
Each froyo ROM I've tried has been a rather great experience but there's always some little thing that bugs me enough to decide to switch back- for some ROM's it's the UBER-sensitive screen rotation, others its the lack of automatic pop-up of controls/toggles while on a call (to access speaker, mute, etc).
At least I got LauncherPro to replace SENSE for me- the additional shortcuts in the dock and the ability to change icons in the dock has been my born-again moment with xtrROM.

Sorry I don't check this forum very often. I went with KaosFroyo for the ROM. It wasn't too much of a culture shock because I had been using the Stock Android UI and then Launcher Pro for the last few months before rooting the phone. I have been meaning to put GingerShedBread on it lately, but have been lazy.

I don't think that's it. I got myself and my girlfriend Erises in March 2010 (a while after launch obviously) and both of ours have been awesome. I have been rooted since April 2010 and she has since May 2010. The issues that either of us have had is when I had the 50% time without signal bug (which most of us now know was not really a bug. Just a bug in the way it reported the stats) and maybe a few dropped calls here or there in low signal areas. Even battery life is pretty decent on our phones.
When the Eris launched I actually worked at an indirect Verizon store and out of approximately 60 droids and 50 Erises I sold I had around 10 people come back with issues on their Droid and less than 5 with issues on their Eris. IIRC only a couple droids had to be replaced and most just needed a factory reset, but only 1 Eris needed a factory reset and the rest were just user errors. Just thought I would throw that out there.
I will miss this little beast when I upgrade. I just hope I can pick up a phone that has half as awesome of a dev community as the Eris does! Kaos, shed, tazz, conap, jcase, all the hero devs that indirectly helped out, and all the others that have contributed (sorry I can't think of your names right now) you guys are awesome! Thanks for all your hard work! I hope to see you guys in the After Eris Life

I have been kicking around getting the Atrix as my first Android cause I love my friends HTC Incredible so much but I am on AT&T so the Atrix looks like a good one to me, but I am just wondering if this phone has any bugs that need to be worked out as far as software or hardware goes? Thanks
The bugs on the ATRIX is due to MOTOBLUR. You can set the ATRIX free if you root and unlock it

My experience with the Atrix.
I've had the phone for 3 days. Overall it's an amazing device. However, since I've had it the main issue has been reboots&crashes(my phone is not rooted). The funny thing is when I'm using it, it has never rebooted or crashed, but when it's idle it tends to crash frequently(about 10 times per day). As of now, I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this. So far from what I've found on a few android forums suggests that the problem only exists on some devices. There are some Atrix phones that don't have the rebooting problem at all.

Oh, okay so it's kind of like a Volkswagen where one is great and the other is junk? Ha ha just playin. But I take it that this is not really a common problem with this phone but you just got unlucky, and maybe another handful of people?
Or maybe like Mr flo said up above that it's all because of Motoblur?
Imo wait till October or November. There will be a whole new line up of phones coming out. The Atrix is epic but there will be better in the new future.

forget trying to figure out whats wrong and exchange it for another if you can, thats something in the hardware most likely
Overall it's a solid phone, and almost every iPhone user that made the changeover usually posts that they are happy they left the iPhone for the Atrix.
In the end you are getting a dual-core phone with a 1GB of RAM and a large battery.
Plus this phone just got the BL unlocked, so that means you will have CM7 and Ice Cream Sandwich in some form (possibly even official)...

"future proof" makes me happy I just realized that I just made 10 posts! Ha ha!! I'm FREE!! Now it's time for me to go into the DEVELOPMENT THREAD and cause some real trouble, ha ha.
i have had mine for about 3 days, no reboots and whatnot. I am liking the way the phone feels and works. calls are clear via bluetooth speakerphone and the regular earpiece.
ive ditched the default messaging app for chomp sms(its basically bitesms but better and smoother in alot of ways, same dev team if im not mistaken). and im not using the default launcher anymore, launcher pro seems smoother.
anyway hardwarewise the phone is awesome, even with the motoblur on it in a nonrooted oem rom. with that said i plan to root and try out some different roms in the near future

This is my first android phone and I love it! I've already rooted and unlocked it. I've flashed several ROM's already and have had excellent results. There have been a few reboots and connection issues but nothing to seriously complain about. My current ROM has taken care of all that and I'm getting over 30 hours of battery life without changing anything. I don't know about "future proof" with LTE coming but it will be tough to find a better phone
I have 2 in my household.
The wife's is as stock as stock can be and it is rock solid. Never had an issue with the phone. No force closes, no issues, just a solid work beast. Nearly, only nearly mind, rivals a Berry for battery life.
Mine on the other hand has gone through the wars a bit as regards reliability BUT all of those issues were my fault not the phone.
I am like most of those posting here in that I do like to play and tinker with ROMs, apps and anything else we can think of playing with. The upside is that after that learning curve I have a phone that is fantastically quick, great battery life and not really going to be left wanting for much over the next year or two as regards hardware.
Same as most android's really it is what you make of it. If you want a solid work beast, it can do that. If you want to play, you can do that.
Importantly though is that the initial learning curve has been gone through, mostly on this great forum, so if you want to root, mod, unlock the bootloader and whatever else may come make sure you research it.
There is only one rule really. If you unlock the bootloader and use the official AT&T Gingerbread update NEVER go back to Froyo. Remember that and now it is quite hard to mess up.
I know I have tried !
Wow, thanks a lot guys... I think this will be my first Android after reading what you all have said about this phone. Thanks for taking the time to give me your opinions, and to the guy that hates the phone... Dude I'm really sorry you got a dud.

Alright, so this phone needs some serious consideration. Of Course, this phone probably didn't fly as much as it was promoted, I still guess its promotion was a little weaker than I expected.
I have been using Atrix since its launch. About 8 months and never had any issues with my phone.
Phone durability - Rock Solid, even though you can feel the plastic all around, but the phone is light in weight, and it still is very sturdy. Have dropped it a few times(Of course with a cover on top - so no scratches) but even after those many drops, phone is absolutely fine.
Screen - First qHD display. Truly amazing. I feel it better than iPhone's retina display, trust me when I say it, have used iphone 4 and exchanged it with Atrix.
Call Quality - SubPar. No noise issues. Whenever I receive a call, the person on the other end never complained.
Speakers - Loud and clear enough. Even when I put phone on speaker while driving, it is just clear. Loud enough to fill my car with voice easily.
Biggest Bonus - Unlocked Bootloader. Means, this phone is now free. With lots of Devs now coming up with new ROM's, and CM7 on its way, I have heard that MiUI is also coming to Atrix in near future, it is just an amazing feeling that how much customization is available for the phone, with Devs spending days and hours, it is just truly phenomenal.
Processor - with Dual Core 1GHz processor, this phone has got the raw power to beat up the competition. I feel, phone is fast enough to give solid competition to the upcoming new android variations, upcoming iphone and so on. As someone earlier said, it is a future proof phone, not only because it has got the Dual Core processor, but because it has got Dual Core processor, even today, there are many phones which still get released with 1GHz Single Core, I think for next couple of years 1GHz Dual Core processing speed is safe from getting extinct. Also, the fact that Atrix can now be OverClocked to 1.3GHz, man you should see this phone, just totally flying with that much power.
Camera - As promised by Motorola earlier at the time of launch, with GingerBread, phone will be able to do 1080p, and yes it does it. What else would we need?
Another Bonus - Finger Print Scanner. Just unique by itself. No more words needed to explain what it is.
Last but not Least, Battery - Solid. Usually, I have always seen people be able to get around atleast a day out of the Atrix battery easily. Now with different applications available to help us save the battery, it is even easier to get more out of it.
Webtop Dock etc... - Personally I don't use any other accessories for Atrix, so no idea, but have heard they all are also similarly amazing.
If I missed out on anything, I am pretty sure, I have got something good to say about it, as long as it is related to (M)Atrix.
If you got the phone, you should be happy. If you are thinking of getting one, go for it. If you dislike it, it is your personal choice and I am sure people will respect it.
Cheers!!!
Well Guy's!! I took your suggestion (besides that one guy) and I got the Atrix! Thank you thank you!!! I love this phone already. I have the bootloader unlocked, rooted, clockwork recovery, and the Alien ROM installed. Awesome phone, thanks so much for you help. After having the iPhone and then switching to this phone, there are so many things and so many ways to customize this phone it's insane. I almost don't know where to begin. See ya out on the forums!
I wouldn't have gone with the atrix personally. I had one. Froze a lot, soft rebooted A LOT, screen was not accurate to touch and would become unresponsive at times, not to mention it was SLOW(for being a dual core tegra phone). Like others say though, its mostly personal preference. I may have also had a bad one. I've owned many androids and I personally rate the atrix worse than a poopy aria.... its on the bottom of my list. I got my nexus s now and have never been more pleased.

I just got a Thrill 4G and Im thinking about trading it in for an Atrix. The phone is great but the battery life sucks, and I cannot see the 3D screen with sun glasses on. I live in AZ so they are on every time I go outside so that is an important deciding factor for me.
The Atrix is $49 today so Im thinking about getting one. I'd love to hold out for the SGS2, but who knows when it will be out and it will prob be $199.
So, would you buy an Atrix again if you had to do it over again?
If I wouldn't of had to sell my first ATRIX I wouldn't have. My fave phone!
Tapped from my ATRIX.
No-brainer imo --- the atrix is FAR superior; I'll admit that with stock gingerbread the phone is kinda meh....still an awesome phone but nothing mindblowing. I assume since you're here you'll be unlocking and flashing it...which makes the phone AMAZING. The 3-D stuff just seems so gimmicky to me and won't be perfected/well-implemented for a good amount of time to come.
As far as the SGS2, on paper it looks like an amazing phone but I'll have to wait to see - I had the captivate and was so disappointed with it (anyone that had that phone from the beginning knows how horrendous Samsung's support was). I hope that Samsung has learned a lot since the beginning of the GS line because a phone with such amazing hardware shouldn't have so many problems.

I actually know exactly what you mean because I bought my Captivate a couple days after it was released. I still have it, dont use it, but I was really happy with it after flashing ROMS on it. The development forum on that phone is fantastic.
Yes, I would never have a stock phone. Did they ever get the bootloader unlocked on this phone? I know that was the major reason that people hesitated to get it.
i love my atrix. nothing out there is better to me. im running CM7 beta on it right now. so fast.

I didn't miss it because I wasn't looking for it. I don't have an Atrix and was asking a question.
Everything I've read says that the Atrix also has poor battery life. I saw a thread on a battery calibration and mod that is supposed to help. I dont want to trade ina phone with bad battery life for another phone with bad battery life.
Both have a dual core CPU but the Atrix has 1GB of RAM which is nice IMO. I cant see the Thrill 3D screen with sunglasses on which sucks to me. The 3D is very gimmicky and hurts my eyes, lol. And there is only one ROM and the dev's seems to be bailing on this phone so I don't see a very good future in the Thrill dev threads.

Bad battery life reports are the vocal minority. Most of us here consider the battery to be one of the Atrix's strong points. I can get 2 1/2 days with light usage on mine with CM7 installed on it. Thats with wifi set to never sleep, and with GPS and 3G/HSPA enabled.
I love the Atrix. Literally the only problem I have with it is the pentile display, and even then its a very minor issue.
It has a 1930mAh and all the review sites i've read say the battery life is very good. Flashing a custom rom will make it even better! People have been getting like 16-24 hrs with Wifi and everything on, constantly browsing the internet and playing games (read it on youtube)
This is my first Android phone. Came from 4 years with the iPhone. Ill tell you this...not looking back. This phone was great stock. Now running cm7, this thing is fuggin amazing... battery and performance are nothing short of great.

The Atrix is an incredibly solid device. Gotta give AT&T credit for getting a top-notch device out of Motorola.
well it sounds like you guys are quite happy with it. If the battery life is that great then it's a no-brainer for $49.99. I do believe hat Im gonna return my thrill today. It a cool phone, but im a power user and ROM flashing addict so it seems i'll fit right in.

Good choice. The only HTC that is a solid Atrix competitor on AT&T (candybar Android w/o keyboard) is the Inspire4G, but honestly, after several HTC devices and several Moto devices, HTC may come up with cool designs and features, but Moto is great at implementing reliable, high-performing designs. I've never gotten the "oh, that is cheap" feeling with a Moto phone, while Samsung and HTC . . . meh!
Typically find out people who are complaining about battery life have heavy usage that would have even worse battery life on other phones. You had a captivate like I did, so I can tell you this phones battery kicks the **** out of the captivates....and will be even more amazing should you decide to UV it.
If you want to see a GOD AWFUL battery, **** around with an HTC inspire for about 6 hours lol.
Anyway, I think you should at least give the Atrix a try and worst case scenario you don't like it you bring it back within the 30 day window (assuming you will have one).

I guess I'm the lone dissenter here. I'm not a fan of the Atrix. Maybe I got a lemon but it seems like there are a lot of problems.
The build quality is suspect. Dust and even a very small piece of cat hair has gotten under the screen. The back plate/battery cover feels cheap and creaks when I hold it. The GPS is rarely able to get a lock on my position, rendering it useless. Also, bluetooth connection is unreliable. I've tried 2 vehicle systems and 3 headsets. They are all able to pair fine, but lose connection in the middle of phone calls.
And if you've done research on the Atrix I'm sure you've read all about Motoblur and how ugly it makes the UI. It's all true. I'm on gingerbread and I have to say its hideous. The stock in-call screen, dialer and photo gallery all look like something designed by an elementary student.
Can you flash it and fix the ugliness of the UI? I'm not a techy but from what I've read the answer seems to be mixed. It would appear yes you can just as long as the OTA update of gingerbread has not been installed on the phone. If it has, you're either screwed or prepare to spend the next 3 years of your life reading up on how to hack the device.
On the positive side, believe everything you've seen about the Atrix's speed. By far the fastest phone I've ever used. The screen is nice and bright as well.

It sounds like you might have got a lemon. But, I had the ota update and flashed it the very same day with no problems at all so it honestly isn't that difficult.

There are many options to get rid of the stock gingerbread Motoblur look. The obvious choice is CM7, which will do away with Blur entirely, and make your phone quite a bit quicker. Most themes available in XDA will get rid of the Blur look, and there is a huge selection in the App and Theme section. I use the ext4 Homebase Rom with his Honeycomb theme, and it significantly speeds up my phone.
I would recommend the Atrix over other Android phones for a few reasons. The biggest reason why I like it so much is because of the form factor. I like the 4 inch screen more than 4.3 or 4.5 or 9.3. Battery life has been pretty good, at least as good as I can reasonably expect from a smartphone. The hardware specs are comparable to any other Android device, and if you're willing to root and flash custom Roms, you will notice a marked improvement over stock performance (which I think is true of any Android phone). What really makes this phone as slick as it is are its accessories. I just bought the lapdock from Vancouver Craigslist for $150 and I love it. I knew when I bought it that it was kind of gimmicky (like the 3D from your Thrill), but for what I need this tool for, it's been outstanding. Nothing beats watching Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad on my hour commute to work while simultaneously charging my phone!
I love my Atrix, and it's a shame the phone got such a bad wrap off the bat due poor implementation of Blur on 2.2, and encrypted bootloader. Now with the unlocked bootloader and better blur, in addition to more and more custom roms being built, this phone is coming closer to its potential. I wish it had a metal back plate, but I understand the potential of worse reception and getting hotter than the plastic cover. All in all, the only phone I would remotely consider exchanging my Atrix for would be the Sensation, and even then I think I'd really have to be sold on the idea. I hope this helps with your decision.
Cm7 is a must on the atrix. I've tried other roms but none ever worked quite right. Annoying fc & other errors - but thanks to those devs for putting in the time & effort. Blur is complete crap: I couldn't even listen to my mp3s without the music stuttering bcuz the phone was busy searching for "suggestions" of similar songs I may like. Damn you, for the unwanted marketing on my device, at&t & Motorola. For a while, I very much regretted trading in my iPhone. But now all is well. Thank you cm7 devs!
So I just got my Atrix
It has 1.2.6 as a build on it, and from reading I'm not finding too much information on that build. I don't think that I want to do the OTA to 4.1.57 though because I keep reading about bricks. I'm going to put a ROM on it, more than likely CM7 so Im not sure what good it would do to update OTA. I'll have to root it though so I guess I can get on that first but all of the root guides are for 1.8.x and up.
I can live with the random reboots, battery life that is 8 hours one day and 2 hours the next, flaky ass performance, incomprehensibly slow UI, and it's like watching turd paste slide off a window. I mean, it is like 2 years old. But when I spend an entire 30 minute car ride trying to get it to make a phone call amid reboots and 10-minute-long UI freezes, I think it's time to face facts:
This phone is aflaming turd. My friends who have OG droids (released the same time, mind you) never have these problems. Their UI actually responds to touch! :O WHOOOAAAAAAA.
For reference, I'm running CM7, though this steaming pile of excrement has persisted through half a dozen ROMs including the stock OS that I've run over the past 2 years. So hey, at least it's not some configuration problem of mine! I can rest comfortably knowing my aggression is directed squarely at the retarded self-mother lovers responsible for this worthless garbage. Thank, you, HTC.
Let's see how samsung does. When is that galaxy nexus release date again? >_<

*mod edit* - Feel free to rant, but let's keep it clean.
It is an old phone. Its processor is slower than the Droid. It has a quarter gig of ram. I think it has the same processor as the original G1 that shipped with android 1.5. The Eris was out of date a month after it shipped.
The trackball doesn't work. The touchscreen is dead across the whole QWERTY row in portrait mode. My vibration motor was stuck on and had to be manually removed from the motherboard.
I'm amazed it is as responsive as it is, considering. The devs have done near magic compared to stock. But there's only so much blood you can squeeze out of a turnip.
That being said, I'm on the galaxy S2 and this thing flies. Faster than the galaxy nexus, IMO.

In the context of the rapid evolution of Android phones, the Eris is ancient. It is amazing how fast things have moved in the Android world. My contract is up soon and I am really looking forward to getting a new phone.
I have to say that I have been impressed with how my Eris has held up. I knew that it was slow when I bought it, but I didn't want a giant brink like the Droid in my pocket. I was quite happy that Froyo ran on it. When my Eris booted into gingerbread, I was amazed. With that said, it certainly wasn't ever meant to run gingerbread and shouldn't be expected to run CM7 without some issues. Many of the newer phones that were built for gingerbread also have issues with reboots, so you can't really blame the Eris for that.
I still use my Eris everyday--not as a phone though (I've had a Droid X since its launch day).
I've run all kinds of ROMs on it (stock, Froyo, GB, CM7), but am currently running a very good and stable xtrSENSE 5.0.1.
Kudos to everyone that have (and still do) worked so hard on keeping this little phone that could alive and kicking for so many folks.
I still check in on here occasionally and probably will for a long time to come.
Cheers!

Edit: My Eris is a Flaming Turd and I made the wrong choice when buying or am simply asking too much from a not so powerfull device.
There I fixed it for you.
I had a pretty good experiencing using KhoasFroyo and overclocking the CPU to 900mhz.
The motorola droid cpu combined with better video made it almost twice as fast as the eris, you have to keep that in mind.
i still use my eris daily, and with gsb 4.2, it has never been faster. i fully agree that the stock rom was trash, but come on, its like trying to run windows 7 on a 486.
Funny, I have always gotten decent battery life out of my Eris. I could easily go more than 24 hours, and sometimes as long as 36+ between charges..
Sounds like a /wetware error to me..
My battery life fluctuates, depending on what I seem to be using it for, though it does usually last a day (though there are some days when it runs pretty low). As far as speed goes, yes, it does get pretty sluggish at points, but when I had to buy a personal smartphone for work I had used my upgrade 6 months before to get a new non-smartphone, so a used Eris was the only used smartphone I could afford on Ebay or Craigslist.
So yes, I'm disappointed in the slowness and the occasional unresponsiveness when even trying to get it to call a contact, but it's something I'm willing to deal with until I'm eligible to upgrade in 4 months.
And I'm really appreciative of the guys like tazz, workshed, CS, and Mongoose that spend their time trying to enhance the eris experience for us, and the other people that take time to answer questions on these forums.
That is like saying that the Apple IIe was a piece of crap, of course it would be crushed by the competition in this day and age however it served its purpose well, the Eris is no different, be glad that you have custom Roms on it today because there were a good 4 months after launch where nobody could get anything to work and then a great time after that where we were still looking to root phones that got messed up by the leaked 2.1 image.
In all this phone was a great first Android experience for me especially being able to follow along with and attempt to help in the rooting process. This thing will be with me after I've left Verizon even if it is only for an occasional MP3 player or wifi remote.
I still use my Eris daily (no home screen widgets though, way faster) GSB 4.2 installed and works great.
BTW I have another Eris with Kaos Froyo on it (lazy) used as a wifi remote left in airplane mode, that thing never dies however use is VERY minimal, alternate uses for this thing do exist.
If you still think your Eris sucks then try removing all of the widgets on your home screen that are eating up all of your battery/processing power/RAM (do you REALLY NEED them?) it will breathe new life into the thing for sure, hell maps barely crashes any more.
Hello people of XDA,
I currently have the HTC Thunderbolt and i absolutely love it. I have had it since release day and never had any problems with it. Since about December 2011 i've been playing the waiting game on when ICS will be released for the tbolt. The devs keep saying we will have it by next month, every month. Im starting to get tired of waiting so i was thinking of switching my phone since i have had my contract due for quite a while now. Ive been looking at the Droid Incredible 4G LTE for a while and love everything about it, i probably would have had it by now except i've got ONE problem, THE SCREEN IS ONLY 4". I know for a lot of people this is not a big deal and the phone is still awesome no matter what the screen size is but, why couldn't HTC just release us with this phone as a 4.7" screen instead like the new EVO. So I would like to know what you guys think about the phone. Is it worth the smaller screen and I should just get the phone or should I wait a little longer and see if HTC surprises Verizon with a stunning 4.7" screen phone of holiness?
I'm going to repost something i wrote last week in the general thread about this very thing, except about the Droid X to an Inc4
I got mine yesterday and unfortunately it has a hardware defect in the prox sensor, so I'm getting a replacement delivered to my door sat morning, go verizon!
However that sensor issue only affects phone usage while in a call so I've been playing with it quite a bit. I don't know how many people are coming from an much older device like me but i thought I'd share my exp so far.
I'm coming from a Droid X with Liberty flashed.
First impression was whoa this phone is small compared to the X. But as soon as i turned it on and started playing with it, the screen was so beautiful it didn't matter. The Inc screen is .3 inch's smaller but because of the higher resolution you actually gain screen real estate. The best part about the size though is my hip case is .5 inchs smaller, which doesn't sound like a lot but trust me it is!
Call quality is much better than my X as well. Perhaps it's just because the speaker on the X is 2 years old now but people sound much clearer to me on the Inc.
I haven't really had a chance to mess with the 4g data as i was on wifi when i setup my accounts. I will certainly play with that more when my new one shows up tomorrow.
The OS is extremely snappy, i haven't had a single hitch yet. I think i'd still prefer a AOSP rom once they come out but so far i love Sense 100 times more than Blur and will be happy to run it for the time being.
Last but not least, unlocking and rooting this thing was extremely simple, thanks most in part to our excellent devs. I remember working on my X for an hour before i was ready to install a custom rom. Granted i was brand new to the scene, but getting custom recovery on the Inc just felt easier.
I'm extremely excited to start using this thing full time starting tomorrow!

Now that I've gotten to use it for almost a full week now I'm that much more glad i got one. I looked at the specs and the thunderbolt screen is the same size as the Droid X with an ever so slight reduction in resolution. I personally haven't noticed any difference with the screen size. In fact everything is so much more clear and crisp.
The 4g data is great as long as your in an area that supports it, although i'm on wifi 90% of the time. 4g is a little spotty around my house (most of the time 2 to 3 bars, i've seen it swap to 3g twice), but where i work it's full bars, and quite fast. Surfing the web vs my X is much quicker now.
As far as the speed of the phone it's like night and day from the X. I always felt the X wasn't as usable until i threw a custom rom on it. That made an amazing difference for me, and now using the Inc4 i get the feeling again and this is with a stock rom! I can only imagine how fast this thing will be once i finally pick a custom to stick with.
My reason for getting an Inc4 is a little different from yours. It was forced on me because my X's charge port is starting to die. I thought i'd be sad to see it go, but honestly once i got the Inc4, i couldn't go back

Wow u made this phone sound incredible, i think im going to check it out tomorrow and possibly buy it. I was waiting to see how the new iphone would turn out or if HTC releases anything new but i really dont care any more, this phone is stunning, although the lack of screen size it doesn't really bother me since once i get it i will probably forget that i even had a problem with the phone in general to begin with. Do u have any case recommendations for this phone and do u think the battery life is good or I should get an extended battery?
another question, tbh im only 14, do u think they would let me go in and buy it by myself if i have the money with me and i know all the information needed?????
So far the battery life has been quite good for my usage. I'd say it's on par with my X for the most part, although my X had a extended battery. I have yet to get an extended for the Inc4, but i don't know that i'll need to.
As far as being 14, i don't know, do you look 14? I'd say if your authorized on the account, and no one asks any questions there's no need to tell them your 14. It's not dishonest, your just not offering any extra info!
Then again i handle my company's business account so i deal with everything over the phone, i've stepped foot into a verizon store maybe once. Someone else might have better insight.
For cases I've never done the full body things like otterbox's or anything. I just use the standard leather hip pouchs, and a screen protector on the phone itself. Given i'm a sysadmin and sit on my ass 95% of the time it works for me

well thanks for all ur support and help :good:
About a year ago I got a really really good deal on a GS5. It wouldn't have been my choice under normal circumstances, but it was worth a try. There were some good things and some annoying things about it.
Last weekend I decided that I had enough of the annoying things, specifically around using the phone as a phone, which I had to do due to problems with my landline. When I thought about temporarily using my LGOG, I thought it might also be a good time to try a custom ROM, something I had shied away from previously since it was my only phone and I wasn't comfortable with the stability of what was available at the time.
So I went out and grabbed the freegee app and a stable Cyanogenmod release and it's like having a new phone again. 4.4.4 for now -- I was not in any hurry for Lollipop on the GS5 but it might be worth it on the LGOG.
I'll only really miss a few things about the GS5 - primarily the screen that I can read with polarized sunglasses, the multicolor status LED I can use with lightflow, and the camera - since I am now on KK on the LGOG. The performance of the LGOG is now comparable to what the GS5 felt like when it was new, and as of this afternoon with minimal tweaking I think I have the battery life under control. I really like the physical design of the LGOG better, and CM has answers for most of the stuff I'd tweaked on the GS5.
Agreed, I installed bliss pop on my lgog and It flies. I've always liked the design of the Optimus G. I might just put down my g3 for a few and use this.
Hey jdock,
Glad your enjoying the OG. I'm still using one after 1.5 years and its amazing. My biggest grip is that bcus I'm on T-Mobile I don't get lte. I after a custom ROM really makes a different especially the KK ones. Lollipop still eats a lot of battery for me so I think the phone has reached its limitation. Hopefully this phone can still get the support bcus it would suck to invest on another phone.

I have the LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2[stock] that was ported from the korean version of our phone and was slightly modified by Paulicat to install without the need to freegee after installation. The ROM runs very smooth. It would be perfect if I could figure out how to fix two issues. The first issue is an annoying data network setting prompt that happens when I boot up which tells me that I will incur additional data charges. There is a setting under mobile networks that is checked called "ask when data connected" Whenever I try to uncheck it it reverts back to being checked. The second is under access point names. There are two other apn there that I cannot delete for some reason. If I could figure out how to get rid of the incur data charges prompt when using data and delete the extra apn's, this ROM would be perfect.
LGOG has been one of the best phones I ever owned. LG abandoned it too quickly.
During a thunder storm, I ran from one building to another, not realizing my LGOG fell out of the holster and landed on the bottom front corner in the middle of the parking lot. I found it 30 minutes later face down, I thought that was the end. Nope! just a small (and I mean tiny ding) in the corner, Glass was perfect, without a scratch. I came back in the office and told everyone where I found it. They looked all sad and asked how the screen was. I replied "No problems, it's not an iPhone!" I have it for about 2.5 years the glass is still perfect, never had a screen protector on it.
Unfortunately, as much as I love this phone, I think mine has hit EOL. The battery, although it still gets me through the end of the day, is beginning to drain faster. That and I just picked up a LG Urbane (which I also like), and i think it would pair better with 5.1. I'm just having the hardest time trying to find a phone with the same great features. I just don't know why everyone is into the giant tablets for a phone, and if you want a smaller screen 5" or less, the specs are lousy.
Thanks to everyone on this forum that has helped me keep my LG up to date for the past 2.5 years. I may watch the forum and see if an official 5.1 or M comes out for the LGOG and it might be enough to make me return.
Anyway, didn't mean to steal the thread, I've just been thinking about switching for about three months, and then read the thread, thinking it may be me soon.
