I have an locked Orange UK HTC HD2 with SPL-3.03
As Orange have only recently acquired the phone and this is the oldest firmware. Is it possible to downgrade the spl to 1.66?

First;
Like I have already communicate, the previous Orange UK stock ROM is a hard to find stock ROM, I just takes some time to look on several servers. And it seams that it isn't present.
Secondly, it isn't needed to post the same question on 3 different places, and at the same time opening a thread with the same question (it seems more a spam than a question)
Sorry it's just i've been looking for it for over a week now with no luck and didn't really know where to post it.

I have a S740 with orange uk firmware, is it possible to install original firm from HTC as I have moved away from orange and the orange firmware is all geared around orange services and branding.
If so where can I get hold of it?
new to this so be gentle with your replies
to be honest we really need a hardspl for the rose before flashing other roms
unfortunately no one has taken to the idea

Hello. I have just received a new G2 (aka Hero) on T-mobile UK.
I am planning on doing this, please can you tell me if this would work:
1.Installing a recovery image
2.Booting into recovery and making a Nandroid backup
3.Installing a generic HTC Rom which has been packed into update.zip NB.Rom is a stock rom and therefore not rooted
As I understand after flashing I would lose rooting and would need to root again if I need to. However, I don't need to so am not too bothered.
I am hoping that this would remove T-Mobile branding, but mainly make the phone quicker as it is running the latest ROM. Would this technique work?
I would also like to know wether my sim-lock status would be affected?
Also if Donut/Android 1.6 is released OTA by HTC would my phone update OTA?
Finally, does that mean once I have flashed it, I will not be able to access the recovery partition thing which includes Nandroid etc.?
Please answer my questions and comment if you have any reservations/concerns about this. All comments are much appreciated.
bump-please help
Bit previous with the bump after such a sort time??
To answer your questions:
First of all, as long as your G2 still has the original Hero firmware, you are probably ok with your plan. If you've got the latest firmware, you'll probably have to use the gold card technique.
If you install a generic ROM, you'll lose most the T-Mobile branding, but to be honest there was very little anyway. The T-Mobile splash screen when you switch on will remain though.
SIM-lock has nothing to do with your ROM - it was locked before it will still be locked after you update the ROM, and vice versa.
Finally, on the subject of an OTA, who knows???!!! I really wouldn't worry about it.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave. Does anyone else have anything to say?
new user, similar question.
got myself a T-mobile G2 yesterday, thinking that it's the same thing as HTC Hero. ok, it's only a software difference but now i'm unable to flash it.
software version is 2.73.116.61 which is T-mobile version of course, and comparing version numbers to recent ones it looks really outdated. is it? on T-mobile UK support pages it's even older one. tried to download official version but HTC says there is no support for my device, based on serial number. also tried to flash with newest downloaded from here but no luck, got error 131
so, what can I do? root or goldcard?
thanx
You will need to goldcard to downgrade your ROM, before you'll be able to "upgrade" it to a custom ROM.

Dave

Debranding Optimus Hero (ORANGE)
Hi everyone.
I am an Android rookie, but i am trying to learn more and more each day.
I bought recently a HTC Hero from optimus operator (Portugal) - Orange - and it came with 1.5 version of the OS. There is original 2.1 version but not for my operator.
I already made an goldcard for it, removed simlock, and rooted but now i would like to know step by step what to do?
what rom (original and generic) should i install to have 2.1?
How to do it, with goldcard inside cellphone?
It is possible to go back?
I have read in Q&A that some orange phones, whem the debranding is done, loose the network due to some radio network imcompabilities... how can i know if that is or is not my case?
I would be greatful for all the help someone could give me.
Many thanks
D_Saint
Look at the guides in the android development section of how to root. If the phone is running a very old firmware the likelyhood is that you won't need to downgrade and therefore may not need a goldcard. But basically, you need to root and install a recovery image then you can flash a rom from the hero development section.
EDIT: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
Hi,
I have a HTC HD2 UK stock O2 ROM 1.72.206.3 (86372) WWE.
I find this ROM really slow and buggy at times and it has gotten so bad that i sometimes can't perform simple functions like making calls due to the sluggishness of the keypad etc.
O2 recently replaced my HD2 because the previous one was too slow it was unusable.
I even purchased a £20 nokia as back up and i have to say it is much more reliable.
Dont get me wrong the HTC HD2 it is a great phone when it works but there are soo many bugs and all the hard resetting and pulling the battery out when it freezes is starting to really frustrate me!
I think updating the ROM might help but o2 haven't released an update to this ROM and i don't think they will.
1)How do i check if my phone is branded or unbranded?
2)Would it be possible to upgrade to a ROM like the artemis in the rom development section if my phone is O2 branded?
If you need any more info ill be happy to provide it.
Thank you for your help!
Its branded. The 1.72 roms are branded versions of the unbranded 1.66 roms (with any updates that came out between 1.66 and 1.72 release, , ,there werent many). Doesnt matter anyway, if you are going to flash a custom, you need hspl anyway.
No, there wont be a problem. Start reading HERE, be sure and read the whole first post, dont just skim it.
There is a difference between branding and SIM locked.
Branding is just the 'extras' that the mobile company add to the ROM. Most of them at best are a waste of space and at worst they slow/screw up the phone. My phone lasted a week with the T-Mobile (UK) branding, just to test that the phone was not faulty. Then It went onto the stock 1.66WWE HTC ROM. Although some of the custom ROMs look enticing; my ROM is doing everything that I need, so I don't see the need to change.
SIM locked is that the phone will only accept that operators SIM card. My phone is still SIM Locked.
I have a HD2 phone with these software specs out of the box:
Manila Version ( 2.5.192xxx ),
ROM Verion (1.43.405 xxx) WWE (70124)
Radio Ver ( 2.04 xxx)
I have been searching for a suitable ROM in htc official site to Upgrade my ROM, but no matter how much I tried, I only get this:
"This software is not suitable for your phone"
I checked my IMEI in https://www.numberingplans.com/?page=analysis&sub=imeinr and my phone turned out to be originated from Europe. But I get the same sentence when I tried Europe countries in htc official website.
Can someone kindly shed a light on this?
Thanks fellas
P.S
TBH, I don't see any similarity between my phone OS interface and that of people who have hd 2 Manila version ( from youtube ). Isn't it strange?
probably a branded device sir

You can use the GoldCard technique. (I know it works, but don't have experience with it)
Wow very original (initial ROM)....
Looks like you have an UK ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9105826&postcount=1. So you could try the UK HTC Site.
Have you checked if you have an Operator logo at startup? If so, go to the Operators website, maybe the posted the ROM over there.
You must also check your SPL at bootup and report it over here.
HSPL your HD2 then it doesn't matter WHERE your phone is from. As long as its not a t-mobile phone which has more RAM/ROM than normal you can flash any HD2 rom you want...

Sorry for SPL you have to enter BootLoader (press and hold volume-down when booting the device), but don't bother, cause if I read one of your prev posts, you don't have HSLP installed.
You could also contact HTC Support, maybe they can help you finding your upgrade. Cause you have an ancient ROM on your HD2. I believe for all HD2 devices (even branded) there has to be at least an 1.66... or 1.72... ROM available.
Btw. You don't have an Operator logo somewhere at startup, it's all HTC logo's???

I forgot to mention that I finally found a ROM upgrade for my phone from htc TAIWAN website, downloaded and installed it. Apparently my phone origin is Taiwan. And now the language of my phone became Taiwanese. The question is that how my TAIWANESE phone had English language on it if it was not HSPL'ed? ( Actually I didn't check the Bootloader BEFORE upgrading my phone, but I believe if my phone had been HSPL'ed, the word HSPL would be seen in bootloader even AFTER Rom upgrading, right?
Is it possible that a Taiwanese phone has English language on it out of factory?

No, it's all HTC.
Read ALL the previous replies. Told OPTUS that I could not get the Win6.5 ROM upgrade from HTC, launched a week ago. They told me to give them the IMEI (above the serial number).
The operator then told me that I needed to download from the South African HTC site, since that's where my ex-Telstra phone came from. But that site seems off-line at this moment.

perhaps you could look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623283 and take a look at the 1.66 roms, they are available for (almost) all EU/ASIA official HTC devices.
or take a look here

see prev post... maybe you need the wwe south-east asia rom.
Hello,
New to the forum, and this is probably a noob question, but after trawling through loads of threads on here my head is spinning and i need some advice!
I decided to upgrade the ROM of my hd2 today as i am having problems with sending sms. i bought the phone second hand recently. It is sim unlocked and there is no carrier branding on the phone that i have noticed.
I tried to get a ROM from the htc site and got the not suitable message, long story short after speaking to htc i found my phone is from the Czech republic.
Now i have had a look at the ROM flashing tutorial and i am confident with doing it, however i am unsure about whether or not i need to use the Goldcard method?
Can i download the latest ROM from the UK HTC site and put it on my phone just using the Hardspl method here?
Thanks for any help offered, and sorry if this has been asked before, but i couldnt find an answer to my question.
