I use a wired headset all the time with my Tilt2 which crapped out on me (the phone not the headset) last week, the touch screen displays but no longer accepts input.
Got my replacement phone and FINALLY got everything loaded. WM 6.5 only it's the latest ROM and I had the previous version on the phone that died.
My problem is the wired headset isn't working like it did before. On the mic there is a button to simulate the send hard key on the phone. Press and hold it to activate Voice Command, tell it what to do and you know the rest.
Pressing the mic button does nothing at all. The phone shows the headset icon, the ear buds work and when I make/receive a call the mic works fine. Just the button doesn't work.
I haven't sent my old phone back yet which still works if you don't use the touch screen. Powered it up and plugged everything in and it works fine, push the mic button and voice command pops up.
I have checked as many settings as I could find but no luck.
The new phone has Vingo VoiceApp however I remapped the key to Voice Command and have no idea what this app can or can't do. Not sure I even need it.
That's it. Anyone got any ideas as to why the mic button works on the old phone and not the new? The USB adapter is the same one between the two and beyond that, I am lost.
Thanks!!!!
Come on... some one out there has got to have some info on this taht will help me. I have to send the old one back in a couple of days and I am begining to think the replacement phone has a problem if I can't find the setting.
Does your earbuds with mic use the 3.5mm jack or the mini usb jack? i bought some nice mic'd earbuds but they are 3.5mm jack not the usb i can hear everything fine but the mic doesn't seem to transmit on my end is this common and sorry to asking another question on your thread.
I should have updated this thread a long time ago. The problem was with my phone. Being a warranty replacement (read refurbished) something was just missing. They sent me another phone and it worked from the get go.
I do appreciate you trying to help. Props to ya!

My (uk o2) XDA has no audio, when I try and make a call it connects but there is no audio at both ends. It says speakerphone is ON. Also there is no audio from media palyer alarms etc. But audio OK with headset.
Dont know how I entered speakerphone mode, cant seem to exit it. I know you are supposed to make a call then hold the call button for 2 seconds but this does not switch speakerphone mode.
I have done soft & hard resets still the same.
I have entered the boot loader and run the self test and audio + mic are OK.
Running 3.14.13 ROM & 4.14. Radio sw
Any help appreciated
My last thought was to reload the PPC ROM & Radio stack, done and still same the sam problem, no audio & stuck in speaker phone mode?
Ta Wayne
Bad luck - this has happened to me twice (at last someone else it has happened to - I thought I was going mad!).
I'm afraid it's back to the shop for a new handset. Did it come from Carphone Warehouse? They upgraded me on my last swapout to a 64Mb version.
rgds,
Spoke to o2 customer support today and they have asked me to send it in to them, swap out would be nice as I had some dust under the screen, 64 mb would be fantastic
But I'll wait & see, never thought of taking it to the "Link" where I bought it from it might have been easier and I wouldn't have had to listen to all that crud music & now press three...
Dont know how I entered speakerphone mode, cant seem to exit it

This behaviour would be explained if the CAR_ON# pin (pin 19) on the large connector was connected to one of the power pins (the nearest being right next to it, pin 20). So check for a spec of metallic dust or a slightly bent pin before sending it back.

I have the same problem, please help...
How do you solve this problem? I have tried to plug and unplug the headset and did a reset... still the only thing that comes out of the speaker is the ring. The only want I can use the phone or hear anything is to use the hands free... Please help.
I also experienced once a similar problem. In my case the bug was a simple mechanical one. You know when you plug your headset it simply disconnects the speakers. In my cases it was stuck so even after I unplugged the headset, the speakers remained disconnected.
I solved it with using a needle and a gentle force.
Such problem started to appear with my XDA after usage of headset. Empirically I found that to bring phone back to ‘normal’ mode (no speakerphone) you have to to connect it to cradle or charger for several seconds. At least it helped me in all cases. I don’t know the reason – it sometime switches to speakerphone more itself without any headset.
Hi guys,
I recently lost my Shure SE420's and have upgraded to a set of Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Vi IEM's. I bought the 'Vi' version as it has a built in mic for handsfree and a button to answer/hang up. The box said for iphone and blackberry compatible but I assumed the x10 would have no worries as its the same 3.5mm jack.
Turns out I cannot use them as the button appears to be inverted for the x10 / Android, ie its permanently in 'hang up' position. Tring to make a call immedialty displays 'call ended', but if I hold the button down it allows me to call out and releasing it hangs up.
Listening to music is terrible, it sounds robotic and keeps chopping the sound, but when the button is pressed it works fine.
Tested the headphones on my old HTC Touch HD (wm6.5) and a friends iphone and they work perfectly so appears to be an android / x10 issue. The only work around to listen to music is using a 3.5mm extender which doesnt use the mic (one less connection on the jack)
Is there something ive missed in the settings or does anyone know a workaround? Its driving me nuts!
Thanks
its because the wires dont go to the same conections in the x10 compared to the iphone, if you know what i mean. there is no setting because they are hard wired. if you are good with that sort of thing you could make an adapter, afaik that would work but its a lot of hassle.
Does anybody have a headphone with build in mic that actually works on the X10?
yea my stock sony headset that came with the x10 have built in mic and they work fine....

Really? What model headphones are those? The ones I got with my X10 came with an extension remote/microphone that you can use with any headphones, but the extension makes the cables too long so I'm looking for heaphones with the microphone build in.
I tested my Ultimate Ears Triple Fi 10 Vi on an EVO before I bought mine and they worked great. They also worked until around the time of the latest OTA update. Now they don't control music or answer phone calls. I highly doubt the headphones broke but I ordered a replacement cable just in case so hopefully that's it but I suspect they broke something with the update.
Hi! I was wondering of an app that can live monitor my voice on my omnia, in other words I want to hear my voice on the headset so I can connect my phone with an amplified loudspeaker and hear my voice live (without delays) in the loudspeaker. Is that possible? That wold be cool, turn your phone into a speaker system. Please if you can do a reserach and give me an answer, thank you!
mic in headphone jack?
So, does the X10 have the 4 connector-type of headphone jack? Mono headphone jacks have only two conductor areas separated by an insulator; stereo headphone jacks have a third zone; and there are some devices that use a fourth zone adding a presumably mono mic to the mix.
I've been thinking Bluetooth is the only way to add a mic to the X10.
I have one of these mic/headphone combos for my ipod (for skype) and it does the same thing with my X10. I found that if I plugged it in the X10, then pulled it out by about 2-3mm, it worked fine for audio and microphone, but the button would be inactive. Best workaround I can think of.
the original headphone with mic is the best, don`t need to change it
wow so now my skullcandy's w/mic decide to work on pandora radio..
I found this adapter, which might be a fix for the hard-wiring. It's called "FiiO LU1 smart adaptor cable converter".
I am also looking for a wired headset (not in-ears). I know the one from Koss iPorta Pro isn't working.
Today, I found this other one, pretty cool, which claims to be working for most sonyericsson phones: Cresyn C550S black.
Not sure if the adapter is needed though. Maybe it would fix the problem with the
Let me know if you are using any nice wired headphone with mic that is working with x10!
My superfi 5Vi crapped out so Logitech sent a pair of new UE 200VI (not the metroFI, but their new line) temporarily while I'm waiting for the real replacement.
Got it this evening and tried it on my Sprint Touch pro2. Audio playback works, still partially with the remote buttons (no back/forward, just paly/pause), one click to answer a call, two clicks to call recent caller. But the mic seemed not work at all, no matter what I try, people cannot hear me. Tried it with audio recorder software in wm 6.5 too, no audio input while using this earphone.
Just wondering, if anyone has used this model on non-iphone/blackberry, does the mic work or I just got a bad one? I know that the superfi 5vi and tripleFi 10vi both work for our wm smartphones.
Thanks.
Managed to get it work half-way. So if I plug it into the jack half-way (exposing the last metal ring away from the tip), the mic and sound both work. I guess it's the wiring difference between this type of 3-button remote headset and the older smartphones jack. Anyone got the same results?
If I use a stripe of tape to wrap around the last metal ring so that it won't go all the way in while maintaing sort of snug-fit while only 2/3 gets plugged in, would it damage my 3.5mm jack?
I guess it's anyone's guess...
I use Triple.Fi 10's on my Tilt2; they're great. However, I do remember having a slight issue like you described with the plug not sitting quite right in the adapter. Switching to a different adapter fixed that right up; IIRC the one that came with the phone works flawlessly.
Music plays fine out of the wired headset...it always has. The headset has functioned properly until about two weeks ago. At that time, my Atrix began to think that I was pressing the headset button. Constantly. Over and over. Any time the screen is on with the headset in, it redials automatically. When the screen is off, it does it too, because when I turn the screen on, it gives me the vlingo vs. voice command box. Also, when I make a call with the headset plugged in, the other person can somehow not hear me at all, until they call me back, and it's fine. The phone thinks the headset button is being pressed once every few seconds. THIS IS INCREDIBLY ANNOYING.
I know it's not the headset, because I've tried three different headsets (two by Motorola, both the 'official' wired headsets of the Atrix, and one third-party), all with the same result. Also, it's not just my phone! Oddly enough, I replaced my Atrix with AT&T's warranty, and THE NEW PHONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.
Has anyone else experienced this, or have the slightest clue what is going on? I've looked around the internet for weeks now and I haven't seen a single instance of it. Pleeeeease. This is brutal.
My headset with mic and button does not have any issues. Its the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset.
Yes I have experienced this as well and it is super annoying I will prob swap it out and hope I don't get another messed up one. Sometimes when I am in my car and connected to my bluetooth handsfree it'll do the same thing and start a song playing and I don't even push anything!!! Hope someone figures this one out.
theres defo something funny about the atrix headphone jack and remote controls.
At first my nexus one remote worked fine with it, but it started doing funny things, then flat out would go crazy (issuing commands without me touching it etc.)
Gave up and went wireless, now I only use wired @ the gyma dn they're just dumb headphones w/out remote
ME TOO!!
Yes, yes, and yes on having this problem. I use my headphones (SkullCandy FMJ) sometimes when riding my bike and yesterday all I kept hearing was "please say a command...did you say...I'm sorry please try again" over and over...hard to deal with at 70MPH!!! Hope this gets fixed, I thought it was my headphones, but it sounds like another GB issue. I don't have any problems when using my SENA SMH10 Bluetooth inside the helmet.
I had this same problem, mine got randomly solved. You could find how the wiring world for the Atrix and block that connection or cut off the controller on the headphone and solder your headphones back together.

Thanks for the feedback, but a)I'm not looking to do any soldering or rewiring (I'm good with software mods, but not hardware mods), and b) it never happened until recently, then I swapped out the phone for a new Atrix, and it happened right off the bat - again with all three headsets. Tried a bluetooth, worked fine, no problem.
I tried a new headset (skull candy something-or-other) and it's been working so far, inexplicably.
I made a voodoo doll of my Atrix and poked it a bunch of times in its little voodoo headphone jack. Seems to have done the trick. I'd recommend that method.
I have this problem too with my headphones from my Sony x1, or x10. I cant remember which one. But as soon as I plug them in the phone goes nuts!
Which really sucks because they are they best headset/ headphones I have ever used for my funny shaped ears.
I think mine fixed after I dropped it and the headphones came out Anyways as long as its resolved that's awesome.

Anyone having the problem using the pure music widget, by any chance? Uninstalled that and hasn't happened since with any headset.

i also started to experience this issues. At first i thought it is kernel or ROM issue but then after multiple test and experiment it is the Atrix 3.5mm headset jack is the culprit. If im not mistaken it is due to pressure contact sensor inside headphone jack. Please anyone know how to rectify this kind of problem do post your solutions for us.TQ

You bike at 70MPH? Holy.
so no one found a real fix or solution for this problem? Maybe we need to make a petition and submit to motorola
I had the same problem with a BB9700. It ended up being a damaged headphone jack. I figure some crap from my pocket had been in the jack when I plugged in the head set. Which jammed everything into it wrecking the receiving end of things.
Luckily I had a spare housing which came with a new jack. I'm not sure if it's as easy to replace on the Atrix since I haven't had the opportunity to tear it apart yet.
Power amp has settings that fix my controls and it works great.

Still no one ever face this kind of problem?
Can anyone confirm that this could fix our problem? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301998
I have same problem too. But I have this problem on stock ROM and CM10.1 (with 3.1 kernel) ROM. I don't have this problem with any other ROM.
Hi!
I'm having some strange issues reggarding the use of headphones.
Recently I bough a pair of Razer Hammerhead pro v2 headphones from a retailer. They are brand new, and work just fine in other cellphones (Motorola or LG) and even my computer.
But, as it turns out, they do not work properly on my phone.
Let me elaborarte: I already have a pair of Philips headphones with a dedicated play/stop music button and microphone, and they work just fine with the cellphone. But, whenever I plug my new headphones on the phone, the "headphones with mic" icon shows once on my notification screen and then just banishes, leaving me with an icon that looks like a pair of "regular headphones", not recognizing the mic. or buttons.
I've read some people online experiencing the same issue as me. And, even though you can ACTUALLY hear a conversation or music with the headphones, the mic. and buttons just don't work. Is almost as if they were non existent to the phone.
I've already tried different apps that allow you to mock you cellphone to bypass this issue, but they don't work.
Any suggestions?

AGREE. Also, if you can check that if you keep pressing the handsfree jack down, the mic works???

Yeaj, I tried that already but it doesnt work. And it wont work because I think that this is a MIUI related problem.
Any suggestions?
My mic works if I keep the handsfree jack at a certain position or keep pressing it. May be it's a hardware problem or handsfree problem. Who knows!!!

My issue is SOLVED.
Turns out there was dust settled down in the jack.
SOLUTION: Take an ear bud, dip it in petrol and clean the headphone jack with it.
Thanks for your thread as it helped me in getting to the root cause of the problem :good:

I've already tried that one, and had no ressult. I cleaned it as soon as I got the problem, but it keeps happening
So for me, the problem is still ongoing
As I stated before, I can hear my headphones, but both mic. And buttons don't work.
Try using a different recording app and or music player, see if that helps.
