So apparently the myTouch 3G is getting an official 2.2 Froyo update. If so, then what's stopping us from getting it? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we have basically the same or better hardware than it? Or is it a choice of Verizon's whether or not to give us the update?
You can read more about the MT3G announcement here http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/06/mytouch-3g-will-see-2-2-soon-not-2-1/
average folks working for free in their spare time are going to take a lot longer then a group of 20 or so software developers at htc being paid full time. so... really chill out, the devs are doing the best they can.
it still is good news though, once it's released i dont think the devs will have any problem at all porting it over.
EDIT: okay, i might've jumped to the wrong conclusion after re-reading your post. I'm just so used to so much bad mouthing and drama that I guess I got carried away.
Anyway, Verizon is really slow at sending out updates. they constantly check and recheck and tell the companies to change so many things that it's really complicated to get them out as quick as t-mobile does. if HTC is making one for the MT3G (hero), there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they're working on one for the eris as well, they probably just havent announced it because they are waiting for verizon to greenlight it.

I think Verizon will roll out the 2.2 by the end of Q3 seeing as the just popped the official 2.1 out(which from what i have seen is very buggy)
Even if they dont, when the official Froyo for 1.2/Fender is OTA'd the Eris port will fallow VERY shortly(since the 1.2 is basically and Eris in a Magic case)
BTW Hero CDMA=Sprints version of the Magic
Hero GSM= is Tmobile UK "G2"
Just sayin'

Yeah I wasn't badmouthing. I hate all the drama in these forums lately. I know the devs are working on a 2.2 port, but I was just stating that if the MT3G can get it what's stopping us from getting it? I'm hoping Verizon will greenlight it if they are working on a 2.2 update. And if they aren't we'll always have a dev who will make a rom for us.
2.2 will probably be available for rooted Eris within hours of source being posted, though I do hope Verizon doesn't drag their feet for the sake of those unwilling or unable to root.

Agreed. Plus I would think it'd be better to have the 2.2 that was made for the eris to make the rom, rather than just porting it so everything will work. Although it may be just as easy for some people.

From some articles I have read I'm pretty sure we will get an official 2.2 update. It was stated that the jit that is used in 2.2 will actually help to speed up older devices such as ours. So I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and if not then I hope that we get root for leak.
Will it be able to root from 2.1? Maybe get the leaked users out of the gutter?

it's a real good chance that the hboot for a 2.2 rom will be a higher number, so IF verizon/htc go forward with a 2.2 update for the eris, and we can get it rooted? leakers might be able to root.
Lets hope so. I would so love to root my phone. No more jumping the gun for me. I'll be waiting for an official ota or root. No more leaks for me.

HTC Sense is stopping it. Number one reason why I cried when I found out the Nexus one wasnt coming to Big Red
Incredible users will get 2.2 soon enough, just like HTC EVO users.
SenseUI will be just fine with 2.2. Will JITs be modified or adapted for it?
Time will tell.
JIT's are exactly what make it so fast
Any ideas, if it would work? I think it can, I've seen some ports for Wildfire being made, so I guess that Optimus with better specs should be able to run it just fine!
Do you know of any plans to make 2.3 ROM?
Lets wait. It's possible I think and perhaps there will come an official update.
Well, Its working on the Droid Eris and the Wildfire which are both around the same speed and size of the LGOO, so im sure it will run well on this phone with a little OC. we can only wait to see how the devs piece a ROM together.
I am looking into it now.
http://www.intomobile.com/2010/12/07/lg-gingerbread-hardware-requirements/
As it stand now, any port of Gingerbread on our phones will have to be done by us because some LG noob Social Rep on FB lied and said 2.3 requires a 1ghz CPU, thus they will not be making an update. THERE IS NO DAMNED HARDWARE REQUIREMENT! Weather that is LG's 'official' stance or not.. who knows.
Personally, I see no good damn reason why it should not be possible to some extent (parred down version, or 2.3 included with OCable kernel custom ROM).
Thus my experiments have begun.
If anybody reading this wants to help, just PM me, and I will gladly take any assistance on this project.
Peer pressure?
Hahaaha
They "suddenly" changed their minds
We will get Gingerbread, it's official.

Does anyone know the current status of ICS development for Amaze? Contemplating switching from Sensation, which is just at the doorstep of getting pure AOSP ICS, currently few minor bugs to be worked out. Just wondering how far development has gone, perhaps at other sites?
Xboarder is doing a ton of the work here and as far as I know he is the one working on it. I believe his latest thought was porting it from another device but so far all we have had is a functional touchscreen.

Similar stuff going on @ sensation - Tripnraver is doing awesome work @ Modaco. I had tried his pure AOSP ICS rom and it's almost ready, save camera and bt, and I can't believe how amazingly fast and snappy it was. Not my daily driver yet, but mighty close.
I guess I should be expecting similar time frame from xboarder (i used one of his CM7 based roms on sensation).
I'll raise a toast to our first successful developer, and send them some beer change, too They all deserve much for their hard work.
Here's the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378294
The last post from him says he is working on something else currently.
I know ICS is on the way but I am not particularly excited about it.
I was using honeycomb on my gtablet for a few months and was constantly frustrated by the laggyness and broken features. I am not ungrateful because I know the developers are working with what they have, which is next to nothing. But that doesn't stop it from being true that the honeycomb roms were not very stable.
I recently switched down to froyo, trying to get skype working so I could maybe give it to a friend for that purpose, and i was blown away by the stability and speed! It is amazing and I have actually used it to accomplish a few things in my daily life which I can't say I was able to do before. It really left an impression on me that just because an OS is old it doesn't mean it can't be better than the latest.
So now my concern is that ICS will be the same. Is there anything developers can really do to make ICS good without the source code/drivers? Or will it be another ROM that is just there to say you have the latest android on your device, no matter how many compromises there are with it.
I've got ICS on my droid incredible and on my galaxy nexus, and it would be cool to have it on all 3. But I have no problem keeping froyo on my tablet if it is simply better at accomplishing a task.
Haterade disclaimer
This post is not meant to bad mouth the developers or the community. In fact I am constantly amazed at what they are able to accomplish with so little. I don't mean to imply what they do is easy. I also don't think I could do any better. I wouldn't be able to do it in 10 years.
The gTablet actually has pretty decent specs. As a developer on ICS I can tell you that I can boot my tablet in 20 seconds and it operates great. Obviously there are still bug fixes but the build is progressing well. HD video and HW accel all work. Flashback or whatever HC build was laggy because the lack of proper drivers/kernel. We now have all of that for ICS. I'm guessing that by the time our build is done/tweaked it will be more stable and faster than froyo. Keep your head up and watch for the release sooner than later.
You have to take into account that the versions of Honeycomb on the gTablet were hacks of other device versions. It wasn't a true build for our devices, which is why some things wouldn't work. With FroYo, everything is working since all the pieces have been available.
What makes things look better with the ICS development (compared to Honeycomb) is that they are developing a kernel specifically for the gTablet. This, in itself, should make it a lot better than the pieced-together Honeycomb ports. Already they have hardware acceleration and HD video working, things that were only present in FroYo ROMs prior to this new kernel. Personally, I think the ICS build is looking stronger than any Gingerbread or Honeycomb version ported to the gTablet.

I wasn't exactly sure if we would get HW accel and HD video with ICS. I knew we didn't have it on HC.

Thanks for that. Now I am excited lol.
If we can get a 1.5ghz ICS build as fast as the Froyo ROMS and as stable then that is fantastic. That was exactly what I was unsure about... since Gingerbread and Honeycomb were not so strong, would the same be true with ICS? I guess the answer is no, ICS should be awesome for our tablet.

Camera will likely be working right?
Nevermind, I saw the DRH rom and it says no camera atm. I hope that could be added soon.
Hello all! For my first post, I'd like to say THANK YOU tohat all the developers that have worked so hard to bring us all these great ROMs. I have currently rolled back to the stock ROM, and will likely suffer with froyo until this ICS ROM comes out. While I am looking forward to it, I also know that nothing happens in a vacuum. If you devs are willing, I would be eager to volunteer my time and experience (close to two decades of using and building Linux systems and troubleshooting kernel problems, as well as configuring and building kernels) towards this project as a start. If there is any interest, any of you can PM me from here. And again, thanks!
Oops! Got my threads switched. The above was for the ICS ROM thread. Sorry for the confusion.

I actually had it downloaded and installed last night and have been playing with it for most of today.
It is fast, but unless I flashed it incorrectly or something it doesn't appear to be nearly as stable as froyo.
Yes, it is in beta and has just been released so it would be foolish of me to expect it to instantly be as stable as the froyo roms. But this is just not there yet. Browser crashes often for me.

noone knows when AT&T will roll out the jelly bean update. there are some jelly bean roms in development section you can try out.

That's why there's not to many roms,I'm sure once jellybean hits this device everyone will start making roms. There's really no point in making roms since its on 4.0.4 make a rom jellybean hits then devs have to rebase and remake there whole rom so might as well wait.. hopefully its true though chus this is a really nice device to not have any support/roms

Stop whining about AT&T and do something about it. As in, try the Original Android Development forum. We have AOSP, AOKP, and CM10.1 mostly functional. I agree some more ROMs would be neat, but really, what are you so desperate for?
That said, I have an honest question: Aside from maybe PA, what are we still missing out on ROM-wise? 30 reskins of AOKP?
Edit: Sorry about the tone, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's sick of seeing this thread over and over again. Official 4.1.2 will come when it comes, but why not run an 80% functional 4.2.2 today?

X2. There's a fully functioning 4.1.2 that SnowLeopardJB created, in addition to the ones mentioned above. The 4.2.3 roms don't have fully functioning GPS or camera, but they will have them shortly. Synergye's created an AOSP rom, that's using the latest Android developments, that will put this device ahead of the N4, once the quirks are worked out. Reskins aren't ROM's, so leaving that nuance out, what ROM are you looking for that you can't run today?
One addition: If you bought this phone thinking that AT&T was going to support it, you didn't do your research. Apple and Samsung are the only devices that receive any support from AT&T. That's because the former does it's own device support and the latter has enough market share that they can enforce their will on AT&T.

yes i have. i have jelly bean on my LGOG right now and it is fully functional. you're saying there's no support or roms out for this device when that just isnt true. there's even a 4.2.2 rom out that can do everything except camera and GPS. and those will be fixed soon. so what i'm saying is if you say there's little support then you just arent seeing everything in this forum that is out. if you refuse to flash jelly bean on your phone right now then that's the choice you make to stick with ICS. you have the chance to get jelly bean on your LGOG right now, you're just deciding not to.

That was the core of my question. AOSP, AOKP, CM10.1, and ParanoidAndroid are the only major ROMs I've heard of, and we have all but the last one. This is my first Android device, so I wasn't sure if there was really something big we were still missing.
As for why this phone if I knew AT&T sucked? I needed a new phone when there was still no idea when the Nexus 4 would come back in stock, so I got what was thought to be the next best thing. Honestly, with AOSP, this will be even better than the N4 once the GPS and camera are working.
And I can always convert a year down the road when everyone moves on.

Commandments? Are you referring to the Bill of Rights? You do know that that same freedom of speech is also extended to anyone who wants to say you are whining, right?
Anyway, enough of the childish back and forth. As stated myriad times in this forum, as is usually the case, no one knows for sure when we'll get JB from AT&T. We have some great devs working on giving us fully functional CM, AOKP and CFX. Patience is a virtue, and we'll be getting some more love soon.
In the meantime, what's missing from the stock experience? You want Google Now? You can get it. Other than that it's just as smooth as JB.

But when you're opinion is wrong, then that would be considered either a) not knowledgable of the facts, or b) whining...as others have said, if you want 10 different versions of AOSP or CM10.1, or 15 versions of the current kernel, then this may not be the phone for you. I could say that my opinion is that the sky is red, but just because I've stated that's my opinion doesn't make it correct. The current version of JB on this device works 100% and is smooth as any phone I've ever used...ever (and I've had all the latest and greatest). You never answered someone's earlier question...what is it exactly that you want that is not being offered at this time?
You may be new to the phone, but you're not new to the forums. So I'm hoping within the last ~2.5 years you've noticed that there's a search feature. Considering this phone has been out for 5-6 months?, correct me if I'm wrong, this question was bound to be asked several times. If you don't want people complaining about your complaining, then it's advised to look through the forums. Feel free to be ungrateful for what the devs of this community has given us, but it's not like you've made anything. If you're in such a hurry, build a rom yourself.
