Posting this to see if anyone else has this, and if any one knows how to make it work.
I use Google Voice for my international calls, but after the upgrade the dialer takes over, Google voice can not be used to "only make international calls"
i have to use "ask for every call" which is not the best solution.
[EDIT] that option does not work either
I'm having the exact same problem.
I even made several international phone calls, thinking that maybe Google Voice was running in the background... now I'll get hit with the charges for international calls from AT&T :s
Any solution to this problem?
I'm using the X10i 2.1 Global firmware on a X10a (AT&T)
hope this helps

unfortunately the suggested process does not work
I found a way to make calls by google voice. I went to the browser, went to the google voice website, and from there, I placed the call. Then I received the phone call from my google number, and it connected me to the number I was calling.
It's more troublesome than just using the app, but it is a workaround.
Any other ideas or solutions?

When you do that, aren't you still using the GSM network and your sim card to have the call connected?
I am having identical problems (2.1 Nordic) and trying to use google voice over WiFi to avoid using network minutes but Sony's dialer takes over... hopefully sony or GV will update and fix this real soon... very frustrating

I use Google Voice for international calls... so I'm still using my GSM minutes, but just as a local call, not with international rates.
Have same problem. Cost me one expensive international phone call.
Generic FW, Build 2.0.A.0504 - X10i/ATT USA
GV screen comes up, then native dialer takes over. Have used workaround posted above, but naturally would just like to be able to use it as intended.
Just a heads up to anyone who has updated to 2.1.
I have the Rogers 2.1 and using AT&T as the carrier. GV does not work for ANY of my outgoing phone calls even when I specify to use GV only.
If the issue is SE's dialer, is there a way to revert back to the generic dialer?
Thanks
I'm also having this issue, only after recently upgrading my X10 to the generic 2.1 software. I wonder if anyone has found a solution yet?
I've had this problem since day 1, since I'm from Canada and use my GV to call my american / long distance friends. I have had to use the website workaround since day one, and it really bugs me. When I was working from the iPhone app, it worked properly (call me, then call the number I'm trying to call). Since switching to my X10a, I can't have it just call me, it uses the dialer directly.
So, I use up about 100-200k of my data plan to make the call. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.
Anybody having troubles lately with Skype on your Android phones?. I just can't sign in. I've read articles and it seems that many people had this issue. I have a Droid 2 Global that is not on the Verizon wireless network.
By the way, I realized that Skype for Android is only for wifi and not for 3G???? Well after seeing this problem I found a hacked version of Skype at http://www.droid-life.com/2010/10/06...calls-over-3g/ and installed it on my phone. Supposedly with this version you can make VOIP calls over 3G. Again, I still have the same problem of not being able to log in to Skype, even from this version over 3G.
After having these problems, I installed Fring and Nimbuzz, but both of them took out Skype from their services, so there is no way to use Skype anymore.
What is this? Some sort of conspiracy from Google against Skype? Maybe Google is just about to launch a Google Voice program that does VOIP and decided to start a dirty war?
Or, is this just happening on Verizon phones running Android and there is a Verizon-Skype agreement to just allow Skype Mobile to run? On the description of the app it says that "Some handsets may not be supported"... Maybe the D2G is not supported?
I have a unlocked version of Skype which will allow VOIP over 2g/3g, although i've tested it with 2g and there is a delay in voice but it works. I was having the same problem before. Just do a few searches.
D2G
Edit: I should have read your whole post try clearing defaults then force stop and try again.
Thank you

hello ! i tried to search everywhere about this problem but no help at all. the thing is that my basic voice dialer does not seem to recognize my voice at all. when i press the voice dialer button a pop up comes up as usual telling me to speak but does nothing except listening. other voice dialer like one in vlingo works fine but that always needs connected to internet. anybody else having this issue. i checked on sony ericsson facebook and there too has been reports of this problem without any improvement or solution from SE.
I have a T-Mob G2 and sipdroid installed on it. Using a VoIP provider in UK. I have a speedtest app installed which shows 5 mbps download speed 3 mbps upload
People report that they can hear me clear as a bell but I can hear almost nothing. I hear a half second of incoming sound followed by a second or two of silence, then another half second of sound, repeating about 10 times till all incoming sound stops completely.
VoIP provider says yes, some other users OF THEIRS have reported this problem and this is an inherent problem with Android and Android users cant use VoIP. They allude to some mysterious latency problem (which is identifyable on line except that users say it affects OUTGOING sound, not incoming so): I say baloney: There is something wrong with their server. Or can T-Mob recognise that I am trying to use VoIP and i suppose there is a remote chance they are blocking something to prevent me using any VoIP service other than their own (which uses their minutes!!). Cant imagine what they could do to stop me but i can sure imagine why they would want to try!

Thread moved. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Sorry about that, I just did a check on questions posted on VoIP and found all of them had been in this section headed 'question and answer'
Sorry I forgot to update this posting for the benefit of others who do a search and find it.
There are only two or three settings which need to be changed from default with most VoIP services, - the sip server, userID and password.
The problem is device and software specific. Unless you have got something obvious VERY wrong indeed, if you have apparently insuperable problems with anything on VoIP, change software. My provider says users have success with lots of different softwares which dont work on my G2 (or my BA or Wizard or 8525 or Wing). They said that most users have success with 3CXPhone which didnt work for me at all.
Immediately I changed to various other ones, the problem completely disappeared. Sometimes new problems arose (they specifically recommend SipDroid with similar lousy results) until I settled on CSipSimple. Since I started using it, I have had no problems at all and it even worked when I switched to a Galaxy S111.
Dont worry too much about the packages which supposedly have all settings pre-installed for your specific provider! Just keep switching apps until you find one which works.
My gf's phone has been having some issues with google voice for awhile now. She's always wanted the stock incredible VVM back, but no one's ever been able to find it on other forums. If anyone has the stock VVM for the phone, I think she would like that better.
If not...
Her issue is that whenever someone calls her phone it always has different responses. Some people call and say the number is unavailable, others say it asks for her subscriber number. I've called three times now and i've had those two errors along with one that actually got through. The problem is that she isn't receiving all her calls, which anyone on this forum can attest that this is a MAJOR issue, especially while she hunts for jobs. If ANYONE can figure out a solution to this problem it would be awesome. I've searched the web for weeks trying to find a solution or even an alternate VVM, but I haven't had any luck.
I just need to figure out one of the following:
- how to get back stock Incredible VVM
- how to fix or permanently get rid of google voice
- find an alternative VVM that works decently and can get past this google voice issue.
Any help would be appreciated...
Phone is Verizon Droid Incredible running CM7 version 7.0.3-inc
