i dont have time for a full how to but you have to pull the framwork-res.apk from the rom or theme and unzip it. (i use 7-zp ) and look through the drawable folders you see. you will have to find and edit the icons you want. then its easier for me to just open the rom/theme with out unzipping and droping the edited folder in its correct place.

Just open pack's battery mod in 7zip and go to /framework/ then double click the framework-res.apk. Then click through /res/drawrable-hdpi-v4/ . This will bring you to a bunch of pngs. Extract them all. These are all the files you need to theme your phone. You can go through and edit each one, then drag and drop them back onto the 7zip window showing all the pngs. Then just close it out. It'll ask if you want to update the original archive. Say "Yes", and then just flash like normal. There are a couple of things to remember. All image sizes have to be the same. If the status bar background is 480x86 then that's the size it has to be. Also remember to keep the file names the same. Don't change any of the xml files. And always do a Nandroid before flashing. I've done this before to change my status bar and notification drawer background. But you can never be too careful. Hope this helps!

the drawable folders will be named different but it give you a idea of what to look for.

[Q] framework-res.apk

I only know how to change out background images in framework-res.apk, but how do I modify the placements of shortcuts icon, I want to remove those in order to provide clean looking ROM with only launcher, and clock widget, and I'll leave that up to users to add stuffs to home screen, and save them griefs from having to remove bunches of stuffs off home screen on first boot.
I'm working on Sense based ROM, not AOSP.
Thanks
Look in Launcher.apk or whatever launcher you are using. It seems to be in res\xml\default_workspace.xml, although I can't for the life of me get the thing to work after recompiling/zipping/signing...

The way I have added custom icons to my framework-res.apk was to:
1. extract the file to my desktop. (keep original apk file)
2. modify/replace certain images.
3. open up original apk file, the drag and drop new files in.
This alleviates having to repackage and sign the file.
So far I have replace my taskbar and ALL stock icons that were orange are now blue

[Q] how to change the background but keep the transparency effect on Wildpuzzle v0.8?

Guys,
This new transparency effect on Wildpuzzle made by JoeyDelp is amazing
But, when I try change the background image on lockscreen the image keep solid, it loose the transparency effect. And, I don't know how to change the background image in the notification area.
Somebody knows how to change this images but keep the transparency effect?
I whant know this to apply the effect glass rain, like this: http://www.desktopedia.com/bulkupload/Windows/part2/Rain Drops on Glass.jpg
I think will be nice!
For the lock screen, change the img to png, edit the opacity with photoshop or gimp. Save as png and rename to jpg.
Notification background is status_bar_background, edit the opacity with photoshop/gimp.

Don't work =(
I tried several times and... nothing!
Open on image on gimp, add alpha layer, set opacity, save as .png and change to .jpg... and... nothing =/
Can you send me anyone img with this effect?
ya. really doesnt work.. dunno how he do it..
Ok, i'll try to explain:
1. go to this site http://pixlr.com/editor/
2. Open your image in there.
3. on the right side there's a opacity slider, change that to the transperant effect you want.
4. Save it as a .png it anywhere.
5. Rename the image to htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg
6. download the 0301 package from the Wildpuzzle topic.
7. open it with winrar, and insert in in there in the folder System/customize/resource/
There's a image called htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg replace it with yours, ( just drag it into that folder.
8. Close the WINrar archieve,
9. Copy it to your SD card.
10. Flash it on your phone!
11. Congrats you've got a new transperant lockscreen!
This worked for me, if it doesn't work for you i'll try it myself if you send the picture, I'm only getting a you may not hotlink image.

Had generated the image, changed to jpg. Was transparent in the pc (did with gimp) but when I opened the phone called the opacity. Even with the original image (htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg) the effect was lost opaque. So it's like I imagined, need to run a pack to let the transparent effect. Thanks, I'll try this at home

Hey Marc., Do not work = /
I guess it did not work because you entered the pack (the 301) is to clear the notification area and not change the lock screen.
But I got the rom 00001_0.8v and changed the picture for me. And it worked =]
So, I think just having the pack change lockscreen.
Anyway, it worked = D and thanks for the app http://pixlr.com/editor/

Hi karthikk5955,
What format is the image in? jpg or png?
The more common file formats that support transparency include GIF, PNG and TIFF, of the 3 mention you wanna use .png
So you you can go to pixlr
Edit the image transparency,
Click File, Save and on the save screen you'll find a "Format" drop box, make sure you change that to PNG before saving.
Enjoy

[Q] Locksreen mod

Hi, only 1 question... where can i find the lockscreen files, and i can change the slider without cause any problem?

Why mess around in the scripts? download an app called Widget Locker, it can let you customize the lock screen completely. You can even add widgets to it. not complicated at all.
In root/system/framework/framework-res.apk(its just a renamed zip file) copy that and paste it somewher on sdcard with some root directory file manager. Then reboot, because copying the framework apk for some reason makes everything fc. Then get that copy onto computer via usb, and change the .apk to .zip and extract it all. There will be a 'res' folder, in which there is 'drawable-hdpi' go through that folder for things with 'jog' in the name. Those are the lockscreen slider pngs. But you'll have to learn how to properly repack an apk, which I'd love to learn but its not all that possible on my phone, and my comp doesnt work atm.

No offense but you are wrong. You go to add a slider, then when youre in the window you can tap in the middle of a froyo slider(chosen by default) to add a tap shotcut, or you can slide either slider to choose what it does.

UOT Kitchen works on the Amaze - for some things.

Observations:
I was skeptical at first because there are no QHD resolutions listed in UOT kitchen, but figured if I supplied the files, then it would maintain the resolutions in the files.
Must have all three files to upload for it to compile correctly...
1. SystemUI.apk
2. Framework-res.apk
3. com.htc.resources.apk
I've changed the battery indicatior, added statusbar icons successfully, and change the background to more transparent on the Notifications/Quick Setting pull-down. I've also successfully changed the lockscreen icons.
I'm having difficulties making the statusbar more transparent, however. They have a setting on the Status Bar tab, but it seems to have no effect.
I did try to manually adjust the transparency on status_bar_background.png in Framework-res.apk, but it didn't seem to do the trick. Is there another file that is used based on the Sense base?
Nope. Those are the files needed, one bit of advice though--triple check the operational file it uses.
I.E. For boot animation, use the CM file directory, not the suggested data/local. It may be something in the framework.res file that needs to be changed. UOT works for EVERYTHING, provided you make sure the operational file is correct upon submission.

Hmmm Sense(or any ginger for the matter) responds to the status bar B/G used in SystemUI.apk(drawable HDPI). And the images used on all the qHD phones from HTC use the same size for .pngs as their WVGA counterparts(some things are bigger, but not many), scaling seems pretty good AFAIK.

Trust me, it works. I cannot remember off the top of my head (bit drunk) but UOT works on just about everything. You need to double check where each enabled visual/operational is WITHIN your choice of rom. Then, you can triple check UOT's placement of the modified file.

Let me look into it when I get home...I might be able (time willing) download your current rom and cook it--or at least find where to zap the clock so you can do it to your liking.
My battery cooking turned out to cause a boot loop so no-go on that. I appreciate any help you can offer and let me know if there's anything I can do to make things easier.

The clock is in the service.jar.. The kitchen won't work for that mod.
okay, I think I'm starting to get more comfortable with this kitchen.
I've got transparent status bar, and modified status bar icons.
Now, I'm looking for some help with another graphic. I unlock my phone for use with a pin. I see lockscreen in UOT only seems to modify the icons and gesture styles.
Where can I look to change the color of the numeric pin keys?

It is imperative that you open your rom .zip and extract:
com.htc.resources.apk
framework-res.apk
SystemUI.apk
All are found within your particular rom package. Upload via UOT's upload page. That is how their kitchen knows what to change and give you an individualized .zip to flash. If you want an in-depth explanation, PM me and I would be happy to go through the whole process step-by-step. Once you get the gist, it is easy as pie.
As for the clock, yea...it is under services.jar and UOT does not change that. There can be another way to delete it, if I have time today I will try to make a flashable .zip for just the clock delete--unless someone beats me to it.
Yeah, I went through the UOT guide and video tutorial before I started working with UOT (I really do RTFM) and it still crashed out on me. I'll give it another shot when I have time available and I can get in.
As for the flashable zip, I'd love you long-time.

I've seen some code about it, but didn't know if it's exclusive to the device type, or if it's the same basic thing for gingerbread so I never jumped. I'll see if I can mess with it later this week.

[Q] Theming Issues/Framework

Hey Guys,
Im trying to add parts to a theme I'm using. I've themed quite a bit on my captivate and Infuse 4G. This has me stumped though.
Now, for the simple parts im using UOT. Specifically the notification drop down. I'm trying to theme the header, notification, footer etc. Everytime I try it dosen't work. None of the files are replaced. I can see a few of them looking through the framework-res and systemUI res folders. Some of them I can't. They seem to be in diferent places or renamed compared to the captivate systemUI and framework. I've tried three different times and no go.
Question is...Are the notifcation drop down images renamed or in different places on MOTO roms? Any hints for a MOTO nub trying to theme?
I appreciate any help. Thank you.
What images are u talking about.. dropdown notifications are in system ui.. when u use the kitchen make sure u click amend script b4 finishing motor and blur r more dependencies than anything in a custom rom

My memory is horrible and and I haven't touched this in a few days but I can give the places to look and if you change them at all it should be pretty apparent which did what. Sorry, I don't have enough time right now to give a detailed answer.
SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > statusbar_background.9.png
--- I believe this is the status bar at the top of the screen
SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > title_bar_portrait.png
--- I believe this is the notification toggle background if you have them
SystemUI.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > (toggle buttons if you have them... right at the top of the folder)
SystemUI.apk > res > values > drawables.xml
--- shade_bgcolor is.... not sure :/ the notification header I believe (it was a nasty blue bar for me that says "no notifications" most of the time )
--- notification_header_text_color is the color of the text on that header
--- notification_number_text_color I'm not even sure if it's visible. I've never seen it and haven't changed it at all.
framework-res.apk > res > drawable-hdpi > status_bar_background.png
--- not completely sure if this changes anything but figured I'd throw it in
--- right after this is the status_bar_item_background_(focused/normal/pressed).9.pngs and they are the notification items that pop up, change color on press, etc.
The clear all button, I believe, is in SystemUI somewhere, pretty sure it's an xml.
The minus button that appears on the notification to clear is an image also in SystemUI I believe.
I think that's everything for the notification and status bar. Sorry again for the less informative answer. When I get home from work I'll try and check to see if you asked any more questions and I should have more time to explain the little I do know. Really hope this helped and good luck with the theme-ing! Looking forward to seeing new themes come for the X²!
Pretty much right on point... clear button is not an xml though.. except for text colors in these areas everything else is an image that can be edited

The images that UOT doesnt get (which btw works fine for most of the notification bar) are located in blur-res.apk and moto-res.apk.
I vaguely remember UOT working for the status bar a while back when I tried, but since I've been on Molten it doesn't seem to work. Not sure if it's unique to Molten or maybe gingerbread or whatever; I also don't have the knowledge to know. All I know is that on my phone right now, UOT doesn't work for status bar and bootanimation. Lockscreen started working after I got Molten v2 it seems... my guess is it really depends on what ROM, if any, you're using. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm kind of curious to know.
UOT will work regardless the ROM your running. The only thing UOT will work for on our phone is the status bar/battery/icons/fonts mods.
You need to feed UOT the SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from the rom you are running. Be sure to select Amend scripting in the options on UOT and you are good to go.
That being said there are a few graphics/colors from the status bar that are not in systemui or framework-res.. you can find these in moto-res and blur-res.
Icons and battery work with UOT, just not status bar or boot animation. I haven't tried window transition so I'm not sure if that works.

If you are theming the stock 2.3.4 the background color where it says no notifications, on going, etc. is a hex color value in an XML file /drawable/shade_bgcolor.xml. (But in the Eclipse rom nitro changed it to point to an png image called title_bar_portrait.png.)
Thank you guys for all the answers. I really do appreciate it.
I found out what I was doing wrong based on them.
Now I'm on track Found everything I needed to. Thanks again!

okay. so with all of these conflicting posts its hard to determine if it will work to modify status/notification bar/window/pulldown.
but since IDMA is the only.one saying it wont work I am inclined to believe it WILL work and that IDMA is mistaken /doing something wrong somewhere. I hope someone smarter than me can help IDMA figure out what's going wrong. it would just be nice to have everyone on the same page good luck. sorry I don't really have any info on this.
You can nod status bar, but in UOT it gives SHTF errors. Talked to Mendozina about it and said it was something with the phone. You can mod it manually though.

Not to deter you from UOT, but why I not change it manually? My experience w/ UOT was that it's limited in what you can do so recently I just stick to manually changing things.

I use it as a base, then I do manual changes. But I have a bug with the status bar right now so it would be easier to just use UOT to fix it out. The status I would just copy it over to my theme zip.

The SHTF errors occur when you feed UOT a framework or systemui that has been previously modded incorrectly.. (ie when you go switching graphics and 9.pngs out without recompiling etc..) Try feeding it a stock systemui and framework from your framework..
For instance.. If your ROM is based on 2.3.3 take the stock 2.3.3 framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk and feed it to UOT when you are done then you can anything you want back in.

You can nod status bar, but in UOT it gives SHTF errors. Talked to Mendozina about it and said it was something with the phone. You can mod it manually though.
If there is a way, then please please please tell me, it would make it easier!!
