[Q] Vibrant video capture format (official 2.2 t-mobile upgrade) - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Just recently upgraded my phone to 2.2 via kies... I then took a sample video for testing and looked into details and it said 3gpp under video format.
But yesterday, I tried the "update" button settings under camera and it just made an error (sorry, forgot the exact message). And then just today, I recorded 2 new videos and found out that it now says MP4 under video format details
Anyone else can confirm if this is due to the 2.2 upgrade?
Thanks

All the videos i have taken before the update were .3gpp but post update they are now .mp4 so it seems that after update it is now recognized as a .mp4. Good Deal if ya ask me :]

Good deal indeed. Mp4 is a much better container as opposed to 3gp ü

Since running any of the custom 2.2 roms I have noticed that all videos are in mp4 format. This is even back to the first TW 2.2 rom.

Video file on Hero

A few questions....
If I'm copying video files from my computer to my Hero
1) What video file formats are recognised on the Hero?
2) Of these, which are the best to use?
3) If I have my SD card mounted on the computer - where is the best place to store them too?
cheers,
the Hero plays only .mp4 and .3gp at this time. And you have to use the h264 codec.
Video playback isnt smooth at this time, but this will be fixed for sure with the next update.
Just make a directory on the SD-card and put the videos in. If you use the app "Video Player" it will recognize the files itsef
On what are you basing your assumption that video playback will be fixed for sure in the next update?
my statement was maybe a bit too enthusiastic regarding the upcomming HTC update.... I should have written:
Video playback isnt smooth at this time, but this will hopefully be fixed with the next update.

After I have seen the video of the Asia HTC Hero playing a video, I thought the fix will be comming for sure with the next update...

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed for sure, because that's one of the big things for me, that are working really poorly at this time.
I don't watch a lot of video, but it would sure be nice to have the whole Fawlty Towers series, a couple of family guy episodes, etc. on there to watch when I find myself bored...

MP4 Playback Help

hi everyone. would be really grateful if someone could offer any advice.
when playing mp4s the video completely loses sync with the audio and video explorer bar starts at the beginning even though the video is still playing.
it only happens on video longer than 30 mins.
I've tried several converters including xillsoft video converter ultimate which has a specific setting for the hero.
I normally encode mp4 for iPod H264 as the file size is smaller but have also tried normal mp4, wmv etc but the issue still happens. a change in the resolution of video doesn't help either.
I've tried mobo player, zimly, rock player and good old stock but no avail.
I've tried several 2.1-2.3 Roms but that doesn't help.
It does work with Elelinux 2.1 stock but if i'm honest i really dont like sense roms.
does anyone know the optimal mp4 encoding settings for the hero?
is it possible its somehow kernal related e.g struggles to read larger file sizes?
sorry for the essay its just really bugging me lol thanks alot

Hi everyone,
Please could anyone offer any assistance to the current issue i'm having?
does anyone know the optimum mp4 settings to convert video for the hero?
Its strange that it works on elelinux sense 2.1 but not on any froyo or gingerbread roms.
thanks
sy
try qq player...it worked for me
You might want to try this out.
I am no expert, but this seems to work for me.
I use Any Video Converter.
320 x 240
frame rate of 15
Audio codec is aac for me.
And I use Meridian to view my videos although stock works most of the time.
I am using Elelinux 2.3 (7) currently but this worked well with Stock sense ROM as well..
Hope this works.

video quality since upgrade to alpha3

I was useing moboplayer to watch my avi TV episodes on the alpha 2.1. The video quality was fine. Although after installing alpha 3, useing the same avi with the same mobo player, there was a noticeable decrease in video quality. The video was now very grainy. I've even tried the modified Mx player, but that video looks the same as the mobo player very grainy.
I've even went as far as wiping data and cache and doing a total fresh install of alpha 2.1 with nothing else installed except mobo player and sampled an avi episode. The video was the same as before when I had alpha 2.1. Then I wiped data and cache and did a fresh install of alpha 3. Installed nothing but mobo player and sampled the same avi. The video was very grainy and bad. I just don't understand why the video quality would decrease
Can anyone explain why this has changed? Or is there some sort of fix for this? Thanks

same, posted earlier entitled "grainy video" there was a link near the bottom to an apk file that helped a little. i cant post a link to that posting because im just a junior member though.
The link was to another player that did nothing for me. I ended up just going back to 2.1. I don't have all thenormal problems people are having with 2.1 so I figured thatt would be best.

video camera settings

Hi guys,
first of all appologies for sounding naive well i saw many places about review of videos in 720p and 1020p hd wel but when i record something it just records i dont see any option of 1020 or 720p and my videos are recorded in .3gpp is that correct?i thought the extension should be .mp4
Sorry again to boder if its very silly
galaxy s2 android 2.3.5 non rooted
It's not 3gp. At least if you're using the stock camera, without some weird settings. Can't you change the resolution in the camera settings? It should be somewhere on the on-screen settings.
Yes i can c few optns of resltns max is 1920*1020 ok i so tats 1020p but dude my format is 3gpp not 3gp nor mp4 and all factory setings apart from upgrading to 2.3.5 i did nothing
Mine is also 3gpp. I've checked a video's detail info of an old one, my first video taken with this phone before doing any official update, and it's also 3gpp format. But if i remember well it was mp4 when i checked back then...maybe it'a a "video info" problem than an extension one.My question is,why is it bothering you since I ,personally, didn't notice any quality difference?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
In my case I cannot stream video via Allshare to my TV as 3gpp is not supported. And no - I do not want the added hassle of transcoding something that worked before.

Hmm, the video is in 3gp format, but it really looks good in outdoors shots. The video is 3gp but the quality is excellent. I tried converting my videos with my professional video editing software to .avi and it really looked good, even on my Sony Full HD Smart TV. I am using the stock camera on my 2.3.4 GB and no, I haven't tried a camera app yet. Not sure which one to try...???

I apologize if I misinformed implying that recording was by default mp4--it does as you say record 3gp--could it be that mp4 was introduced with ICS? Mine is running the ICS update and records mp4, but I don't recall the options from back with GB.
Here's a quote:
"1. Some Android phones may provide support for additional formats or file types not listed in the table. Similarly, some video formats may only be supported by later Android versions."
From page:

I don't know if it relates. Maybe you can upgrade your phone to ICS with an official update?
As for apps, I haven't used any, though they're easy enough to check ratings and specs at the Play Store.
Can't make any recommendations, however a simple search turned this up, for example:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.lgCamera
Some people have remarked about cameras in the forums, you can do a little poking around.
Good luck.

There is another way If you don't want to upgrade to ICS,
Recording your videos in .3gp, then converting .3gp to .mp4. Since HTC Amaze GB 2.3.4 supports MP4 format.
Here is also a quote:
"It's the wisest choice to convert 3GP to MP4 for playback on most popular players and devices."
From page:
faasoft.com/articles/3gp-to-mp4.html
In this way, you don't need to upgrade your phone OS, and also can play your 3GP files on your other devices.
I believe if you upgrade to ICS, the problem will be gone.
Since I had the very same problem

Hi,
my stock from (HTC One V) was ICS and the camera saved videos as MP4. Recently I upgraded to JB4.2.2 (POmega 2.5 custom rom) and now it records as 3gp .
I am looking for a way to change default format to MP4.
