My default video player is unable to play avi files.Whenever I try to play avi files it gives warning that video resolution is not supported or cannot play content.I am using the latest reduced touchscreen bug kernel.
Experts please help

p500 cannot play high resolution videos,
convert them to mobile friendly format using a video converter then watch it

Ya buddy I converted them but still the video player is not able to play them. Can u please give what converter settings should I use to convert them eg-resolution,frame rate etc.

O1 can play video having bitrate upto 2Mbps having resolution a max of 624 * 352..If .avi file has mp3/aac audio codec and xvid/h264 video codec that fit above criteria then the file can be played without even converting and by the Stock Player itself !!! Else wat u cud do is go to http://miksoft.net and download mobile media converter ..install it and use ipod profile for converting your video and play them on your phone ..Enjoy

Or you can use another video player,I use mVideo player which supports subtitle,it's great.
Last night I watched a 688 x 284 movie running very smoothly.

the real slap on the face with P500 is that ...with hw rendering it barely touches tha VGA resolution and with its slow 600MHZ processor u can barely touch even VGA playback with sw rendering ...To get the most all u can try is OC your phone to 800 MHZ use latest kernel posted in this forum and try ROCKplayer universal its the most optimised player ever..Or try chinese qqplayer its good for avi files

if you cant play divx(avi) at all then check your stagefright settings. if its enabled then just disable it and you should be fine

I dont have any knowledge about stagefright can you tell how can I access its settings?

root your phone theres a file /system/build.prop mount your /system rw ..using root explorer mount open /system/build.prop u will a column in the end of the file like "stageplayer.enable=true" (switch it false to disable stagefright)

Im using vital player.. Its frickin awesome.

I think this problem occured when I flashed the zip which increases quadrant scores therefore I just reflashed stock rom using KDZ and now everything works well.

yes it can play avi, just reduce the size of the movie you're gonna play.

Play HD 720p on Sony X10?

Hi everyone, is it possible to play 720p (1280×720) movie on X10 smoothly? If so then which program did you guys use to convert and which encode did you use? Because I did try both .mkv and MP4 H.264 encoded and it seems to be lag or super slo-mo alike. Really appreciate with any help from you.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Ya u could download the apk file called rockplayer.apk and install it and throw any file in your memory card and this app will play it smoothly
I did use Rockplayer to play but the result was somewhat unsatisfied. I got lag and slow motion video play
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
You could try yxplayer, but that's probably going to do the same thing...
So noone suffers the same prob as me? Everyone can play HD video smoothly. Can I ask which codec did you use? I used MP4 H.264 one
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the same prob.
Lag on rock player playing 720.
Just like lag in phone overall
Can I ask why you need HD playback on a none HD display? You would not see any difference from a 720p file to a 854X480 file regardless.
The Ironman file I encoded to the proper size plays perfect and I cannot tell the difference from source (720p). Encoded MP4 H.264 with Videora.
I just tried, and in mp4 format, it lags significantly (like it plays between 7-19 fps), but I converted the same file to DivX, picture and sound quality looked exactly the same and it plays perfectly fine at full frame rate.
Well, probably the 2.1 update will bring something to play HD video, since the X10 will be able to record HD video. At lest it is logical.but who knows, maybe we ll record on our X10 the video and watch it on a hd tv. i hope i am wrong.

Yeah. Hopefully you are wrong. That would be stupidity redefined.
Coming back to the playback issue. It's the same thing here. I got the best performance with rock player, which managed to play a couple of hd files.but mostly even rock player is too laggy.

Thank you very much guys, at least now I know I'm not the only one who suffer. Maybe I will try different codec like DivX for example

My thoughts exactly. Unless we're able to output and watch these files on our HDTV's, whats the point of needing to watch a 720p file on a 854x480 screen that isn't HD? Makes no sense to me...but to each their own.
I recall reading the update info on SE blogs that we will apart from HDrecording also get wireless video out, i'm guessing we'll need to buy some reciever for our tv's for it to work.

I recorded a 720p movie using my sony camera and it plays fine on my x10 using double twist
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Personally I want to be able to play 720p video on my phone because that's what format the majority of my video is and I'd like to be able to play it without transcoding
That said, If I remember correctly the snapdragon has a hardware video decoder capable of playing 1080p @ 30 fps so it is probably a 1.6 related issue.
hi mate i just got the phone today its amazing for i have a question whats XDA App that u use for transfer the file i guese??
My guess is that these video players do not have access to the GPU for hardware acceleration, which would mean the CPU would have to do all the hard work (don't forget, playing HD video IS hard work for any mobile device). Whether that would be an Android 1.6 restriction, I don't know.
anybody looked at the bitrates of these videos?
a bitrate of 8,000 in comparison to a bitrate of let's say 1,000 would make a bit difference... am I wrong?
Also, if you are using the stock CLASS 2 memory card, then playing high bit-rate files will be problematic.
I know that you guys don't want to transcode, but 720p really kills battery.
I haven't tried on my new 16GB class 2 card, but with the 8GB that came with the phone I got smooth playback with 720HD with these settings:
MP4:
ffmpeg
1500kbps for video
48channels or whatever it is
160kbps sound
1280x720 pixels
=)

Does our beloved x10i plays full HD videos?

Does x10i plays full HD videos?
If yes then is.there any specific video player to play it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes ofcourse it does, only with 2fps
Haha is there anyway to play it properly? Smoothly?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Atleast with the 2.2.1 rom, it plays 1080p quite nicely. IF and ONLY IF, it can use hardware decoding, which requires the video to be in h264 or mpeg4 in mp4 container and even then, it's still some settings that needs to be set specificly and stuff but I dunno what those restrictions are exactly and from searching for several days, I have found noone that knows that. I've come to the point where basicly, I just try and see if a video works.. Sometimes it does, sometimes it dont. If not, reencode to mpeg4 using SUPER using "No change" as the aspect, and it works fine to play after that..
dude seriously why the hell do you want it to play full hd? your resultion is around
850 x 480
you really want to play a video with 1920x1080 ? if you got at least 10 gig of space on your sd card for one movie you can try it ... but be warned ... your watching a "high quality" video that gets shrunk so it can fit on your "tiny" screen ....
edit: just download Super (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) and optimize it for your phone ... so you always have the perfect resolution (no scaling)
Yes it dose smoothly...use Vplayer....

[Q] What's the best video player for our phone?

I'm looking for one that can play MKV/AVI/MP4.
Any suggestions?
try vital player, rock player and mobo player. they all work differently with different formats of videos.
I've tryed many programs and the best for me is mobo player. the qqplayer is very good but isn't subtitle support.
the ui of mobo player is very slow and cumbersome to operate.
I agree but mobo player is good.

For me mobo player is very fast. I use cm7 overclocked at 730 mhz.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
QQ player plays all those and plays them smoothly make sure you have a SD increase app for the AVI files or they will run slow
Thanks for the replies guys
The only one that seems to play MKV's I use is moboplayer but it's slow, even at 802Mhz..
I use meridian and QQPlayer
Cheers
i would prefer rock player...(But hey u will not b able 2 play any mkv files curently on dis phone...)
I'll stick to mobo as it supports full dvd rip movies.
Ps : Sometimes the voice is not clear or is widening by default and difficult to understand too thats where it comes handy it plays subtitles too..

I use Zimly
i use rockplayer amd moboplayer both are almost same but UI of moboplayer is better....
thanks to the input found in this topic i'm now a proud user of rockplayer!

I find mobo players ui to be most buggy. I dont like to see thumbnails of videos that I have on my phone. so if I try to go the usual way the ui becomes a real navigational pain. not to mention the fact that the ui itself is slow. the player otherwise is fine.
hey can any body tell me in what format i convert my video files so that it can be played in full screen in mobo player. some songs easily fit in the screen but most of them are in short size. So what is the reason plzzz tell me.
I'm using DoubleTwist because unlike MoboPlayer it supports grabbing your media from specific folders and not the entire file system, and I just want to stick to only one app for Music and Video playing.
Does anyone knows if there's a way to define specific folders with MoboPlayer?
For me moboplayer

so set horizontal resolution of video to 480 and in the software enable the option to keep aspect ratio same as source video

Problem Playing Movies!!

Ok for last couple of days i've been trying to play movies on my x10. I've tried many players from the market and so far the results are:
Stock Player: Couldn't start/play any of the file.
Arc Media: Sorry, this video cannot be played.
Soul Movie: This video cannot be played! Please contact to the phone maker!
mVideoPlay: Sorry, this video cannot be played.
QQPlayer: Starts but wouldn't play anything (Force close when trying to go back)
MX Video Player: Starts well, loads subtitles and goes on for 5-10 mins with a little lag (which is fine for me) then starts to lag like hell and then video goes out of sync.
The video I'm trying to play is a BRrip, resolution is 1280x528 and is in mp4 format. (HD music video's I've downloaded from youtube seems to work fine with any player which is in same resolution) Some other movies in .avi format and lower resolution would play in some of that player but lags like hell.
NOTE: I've tried to set different settings of different player such as hardcoding and softcoding but they didn't work.
Any suggestion guys??
So only that BRrip doesn't play? You say youtube vids are ok...
Try Vplayer Pro, it works smoothly in my phone, so far i havent meet lags when playing any vids.
Sent from my SO-01C using XDA App
Ough..BRip in MP4..you mean in MP4 extention, isn't it..
Try to convert it to 720p resolution and change the Video Codec to Mpeg4 H264..
Can't play coz the resolution is not support by the player/phone..I guess..

No need of any conversion buddy, install mobo player from Market. Its free app. It actually plays anything u throw at it. Using it for over five months now. Plays even youtube .flv HD files flawlessly (Make sure the resolution is 720 or less). All the best...
Convert it to the same res as the x10, rather than letting the x10 do it on the fly. Your bound to get better results.
Try Mobo player. Plays any format and supports subtitles in .srt format. It would be nice to have option to change audio tracks in dual-audio files but at least works flawlessly.

Ok guys I tried mobo player it works, I mean it plays the file but it lags and gradually goes out of sync. This time the file was even in lower resolution. But convert seems to work fine. Now im gonna try different movies in different resolution and check which works and which not. Then I'll let u guys know. But in the mean time can u guys suggest me some good converter for x10? And the settings for those converter. I use Avs converter but its slow as hell.
Oh and guys I'm on cm7, just so u know.

MP4 is a simple format and can be easily played on our x10 on 720p(1280x576,1280x720)
MKV is used in Blu-rays now a days...
It can have many audios like a movie in 2 languages...
I play it in my x10 dual audio 720p...
The main thing is use doomkernel and overclock to 1228Mhz in interactive mode use MX video player.
Sorry if it sounds noobish but how do I use doomkernel and overclock in enteractive MODE?

I'll never understand why people want to watch 720p on a non-hd device. It's only eating up your resources.
Whether or not you can play videos depends on bitrate mostly but there are other reasons vids won't play. Just because 1 720p movie works doesn't mean they all will.

HTC One slow when playing .MKV

I use my phone to watch movies from time to time and some of my series are in .mkv files. I use MplayerX to decompress and watch these files. I recently watched Django Unchained on my phone (in .mp4 format) and it was playing smoothly, however whenever I use .mkv files the picture seems to lag and sometimes the audio doesn't synchronize with the video. Is this because of the app or is it too much for the phone to handle?
Note: Each of these was in 720p.

mp4 and mkv are just containers. They tell us nothing about the actual codec of the video. But if HW decoding is not available, then the file might be 10 bit h264, which is too much for even some computers. You're not going to get perfectly smooth playback on a phone then.
Tried Dice?

Try using mxplayer but not with H/W decoder.

Definitely bull****, don't listen to this, I have One X and it smoothly plays 720p, there's videos actually showing exactly that, on One X. So, it's some other issue. Try enabling hardware decoder or disabling - either or might be the key.
