[Q] ota froyo themes - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

do i have te run a custom rom to install themes?
i have ota ka6 froyo, with voodoo/rooted kernel

pretty much ..yes.. I think a deodex'd version of stock 2.2 allows you to theme. There is a deodex'd version of KA6 in the DEV section if you don't want custom.

do i have to flash a whole rom, or just the kernel?

the whole rom .....disable voodoo first and let it convert & reboot completely

so if i wanna run bionix-v i can just flash without disabling voodoo, since its already voodoo enabled? also would my flashed kernel cause any problems? or will the rom flash ka7 kernel?

It will flash the ka7 voodoo kernel

[Q] Custom Kernel and OTA Update

I've tried to keep my Vibrant as close to stock as possible because I don't want to lose the OTA update capability. I don't want to have to flash to stock via Odin before I update my phone because it is hardware locked. So far, I've only done minor mods (metamorph, removed bloat).
So if I install a custom kernel such as JAC's or KK's overclocked kernels, will I lose the ability to OTA update? Will the update simply overwrite the existing kernel on my phone?

Most likely the devs in this forum will have a working and better version of any OTA you will get. Also when you get the OTA you will loose root and most likely get the bloat back. In my opinion you are better off waiting for one of eugene or bionix roms anyway.
To be more specific, my question is whether updating to any future ROM/OTA update will overwrite the existing kernel, or do I have to flash the stock kernel back before any of this?

You have to flash the stock kernal in order to be able to receive an OTA
Frankin-Twiz Final, awesome
can a stock kernal be flashed right over a custom kernal? (jac oc/uv)

I think so, unless you have any kind of lagfix installed. I say so because I have flashed ROMS like Bionix (which has its own kernel) over stock and vice versa. MAKE SURE NO LAGFIX IS INSTALLED!
is there a link for a stock kernel that can be flashed through clockwork recovery as a zip without ODIN?
Im assuming there is as I flashed the OC/UV Jac kernel though clockwork, so assuming that stock should be able to be flashed through clockwork.
Thanks
EDIT:
Can someone confirm that this is the stock kernel that can be flashed through clockwork? If I flash this (just stay rooted and with mobile AP) I should go back to be able to receive OTA updates, correct (I have not flashed any custom roms, just kernel)??

[Q] Using JAC on the official JI6?

I just ODIN'd to the official ODIN JI6 file, and i know there is a mod thread from eugene about doing stuff to allow back supported kernels to be flashed to newer builds, and i know that the BIONIX ROM has that already setup (and more than likely the FTW ROM from eugene), but how would we go about doing that for the new release?
Thanks!

[Q] How to revert to stock kernel w/o wiping?

I want to install Bionix 1.7 w/ JACs OC kernel. I have flashed his kernel before, but i want to know, can I flash the stock kernel and just lose my OC? In case I have to go back to stock Bionix.
So, can I expect to flash the stock kernel on top of Bionix 1.7 to get rid of JACs kernel?

I don't think this will work, I'm not 100% but since his 1.7 build is based off of the JI6, I believe the kernel is different and this might mess some stuff up for you. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong
If I decide to go back to stock, I'll have have to use odin? When I was using 1.4 w/ OC, I flashed stock kernel via clockwork. then I soft bricked :O

You don't necessarily need to disable voodoo if you go from a ROM with Voodoo 5.x enabled kernel to another ROM that utilizes Voodoo infused kernel. I've done it jumping from nero beta v3 with supercurio's jl4 kernel to nerov2+voodoo jl4 to nerov3+voodoo jl5. However, it is recommended to ODIN back to stock before jumping from ROM to ROM. It is also suggested to disable Voodoo just in case, I am just playing danger ranger

You can do that as well
EDIT: just remember to boot into CWR via the power menu and not from the ROM Manager
installed fine! its freaking awesome. lighting fast and no lag!

when you flash a rom does it automatically change what kernel you have?

so i flashed from stock 2.1 to nero v3, than to axura, than a supercurio kernel, and now i've settled for nero v4.1 lol, I'm getting some problems with my data connection, and was just wondering, when I finally flashed, did it also flash my and change my kernel and modem to whatever the dev intended to work well with his rom?
