[Q]XIP porting - TG01 General

Hi.
I would like to port new XIP to my rom ( from new xip.bin file ) . I would like to ask people who were doing it both via l3v5y kitchen and ffboy kitchen. I did some tests, have some remarks so I would like to ask for some comments.
1) ffboy porting proccess returns some error windows but in ffboy comments I can see that one should neglect them and always press ok . Is it true ?
2) new xip created via ffboy kitchen differs in size from l3v5y xip. It is concerned with the fact that both authors, in certain point of xip creation, delete different not needed files for new xip.
l3v5y deletes:
hd.dll.txt
hd.dll
osaxst0.dll.txt
osaxst0.dll
osaxst1.dll.txt
osaxst1.dll
kd.dll.txt
kd.dll
ffboy deletes:
mencfilt.dll
mencfilt.dll.txt
hd.dll
hd.dll.txt
osaxst0.dll
osaxst0.dll.txt
3) If we cause that ffboy kitchen will delete the same files as l3v5y kitchen, both created xip.bin files will have the same size. Unfortunately size is the same but contents are quite differnt. Is it normal ?
4) New xip is much smaller than original xip and donor xip. For example original has about 3600 bytes, donor 3900 and new has about 3200 bytes. Is it ok. Is it only concerned with mentioned not needed files removal ?
4) Is there any brave man who will test my ROM ? It works of course with basic xip but I would like to release it first with new xip so that to see whether xip porting process is ok from my side. I ask for it because tg downloader does not work on my PC so I am afraid damaged xip will not allow to utilze 3-pin method and my tg01 could be definitely dead.

1) yes is true 4x ok first stepp, 4x ok second stepp (has nothing to do with ffboy`s kitchen- is a bug in xiport.exe software- but is not a real error)
2) to high for me
3) also
4) also
4 b) if xip porting wrong or demaged= your phone will start, but not boot (still o Toshiba logo) ubrick with 1+3 short pin (i do this over 10x )
- AND yes- i will test your ROM (only thing- i have to little free time for do all)
xip port with ffboys kitchen step by step ( l3v5y kitchen don´t works to me) (without new SYS building)
1. put a tsw rom in root of kitchen (no folder)
2. rename to tg01.tsw
3. dump.bat
4. after rom dump you find in dump/dump the sys folder
5. copy all files to SYS folder in kichen
6a. if you have a funtional xip.bin, put in root of kitchen (no folder) and rename it to xip_out.bin
6b. if you have xip files from other build (XIP is the folder LangDB, MSXIPKernel and MSXIPKernelLTK) copy the in XIPNEW from kitchen
xip method if 6a:
press Build ROM.bat,(use my mod) press 2 for NEXT
in next menu press 3 for NEXT and start builderOS with green arrow
in few minutes you will find tg01-relase.tsw in temp folder
xip method if 6b:
press Build ROM.bat,(use my mod) press 2 for NEXT
in next menu press 1 for MSXIPKernel method.
press by error 4x ok first stepp, 4x ok second stepp
press 3 for NEXT
and start builderOS with green arrow
in few minutes you will find tg01-relase.tsw in temp folder
with 6a and 6b i make my lastest builds, and works fine
sorry for my poor english, but i´m willing to help you , miRO

yes, thank you for that. but in new sys bulds is no completly xip.bin- is most
a folder with MSXIPKernel and MSXIPKernelLTK. how can then use your method?

thank you, that would be good!

mirolg, Mangasora thanks a lot colegues !
Thanks mirolg for explanations. Now I can see that xip porting is safer to do witch ffboy kitchen - as You said it simply works with ffboy kitchen .
it is very good new that bad xip porting does not disable 3-pins method.

Hi.
Colegues, in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11073918&postcount=19 ,
I allowed myself to upload my baches for cooking. Thanks Mangasora for His thread about xip porting. All based on l3v5y kitchen modified by leeston2379.
I did not utilize automatic execution via for example
AutoExecAndClick.exe /launch "xipport.exe" /clickbutton "dump xip.bin" /clickbutton "write maps" /clickbutton "make pkgs" /kill
In my oppinion it is buggy . There are any timing races or something other causing any strange errors from time to time. User has to like in original l3v5y kitchen press different buttons in xipport software.

Cooking my own ROM..any smart people here?

Hi folks!
I've got a few questions..
Dont burn me down with *search wiki* TRUST ME, I DID!..I didn't even want to start a thread.
I use "Der Hermes Rom Koch v0.99.6.1* It works great! *but it doesnt open (for example) 04_ExtROM.nb, I get the error; "...Critical Error: Couldn't create imgfs_raw_data.bin"
But what I wanted to know is;
#1 How can I make an extended rom .nb (with my own files (.CAB's))
#2 And when I want to edit an OS.nb, how do I know what the normal (os wm6) files are and how do I know what file's to remove that are added in the OS.nb, by another person.
*hope you understand my questions
*I really used search!!!!

At the moment there is no "autmatic" tool to create a ExtROM nb file, you can put what you want on your unlocked extROM folder and then use rbmc command from bootloader to dump the ExtROM, capture the output and reconstruc it with xxd (unix tool), but this is a very manual process and a Pain-in-the-Ass(tm). HOWEVER AnDim announced he'll release writing support for his ExtROM tool soon, see here:

There are several methods to do this, probably someone with more experience than me can tell u more clever methods, for a simple one, you can use bepe's package tool, and all that is not converted to a RK package means has been manually added to the rom by the person who did it.

Nanoscopic Kitchen rom

Uppdate: it's not as simple as it's seames
here is some notes from xvx45
Code:
Quick help for file editing :
iniflashfiles.dat
It will create the different directories and copy shorcuts to menu.
You can open it with notepad.
When finish to edit it, save as unicode file.
Open an hexadecimal editor like WinHex and remove first offset (FF FE) and save your file.
hv files
In the first time you'll need to convert in editable ressources with rgucomp.exe.
It will transform hv files in rgu files. rgu files are editable in notepad.
The first step to do is to add at the first line "REGEDIT4" (without " ")
Save everytime in UNICODE format.
And be sure there is a blank line at the end of the file.
Once the file is edited use rgucomp.exe -b to re-convert it to hv files.
So what is...
- Default.hv
Default.hv contain registrery information how are make after hard reset :
it contain :
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT ressources and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
There are many thing to translate into !!
- user.hv
Same as default.hv but contain HKEY_CURRENT_USER .
Many things to translate too !
I have tried the second metod with only replacing mui files
and got the os to boot but had lost of problems and because I'm working on other projects I did not have time to figur it out therefor I released this kitchen for everyone to translate.
You'll need to do it the way xvx45 discripes abow
this is uploaded for translation I do not have time to translate it sorry
translation turtorial
on M$ side download the Professional version
Standard is for smartphones and professional is for PDA (Prophet)
Follow the steps in that turtorial for getting the mui files
the bin to use is the one PPC_XXX.bin where XXX is short for your language (PPC_GER.bin) is German and (PPC_DAN.bin) is Danish
Rapid share link to kitchen
download and extract
do not delete anything in SYS folder that you don't know what it does
OEM folder you can add things and delete things you don't want... but would be best to keep everything
ROM folder most be untouched same with tools folder they are there for building the OS
start BuildOS and choses what apps you want and press the green play button and wait for it to finish.. it will make a folder called temp
Overwrite the mui files in the temp\dump folder with those you have extracted from the emulator bin
now you'll need to change some names in the initflashfiles.dat (open with notepad)
when finished go to next step
now press CreatROM and wait for it to finish if there is any error then you have included to many apps in the BuildOS then you most go back to BuildOS step and remove some app
if no error then go to the temp folder and flash the OS.nb file to your phone
You can also use this guide as it's much similare
http://gullum.4shared.com will be updated with mui files for the differant languages
German, Danish, French, Italian, Swedish, Portuguese, Dutch, Spanish, Greek, Russian, Chinese Simplified, Norwegian mui files uploaded
Czech, Japanese, Korean will be next
I you have problems with alingment after every Soft reset
make a cab that adds a welcome.lnk to startup folder but link it to some other exe this should overwrite the alignment link and add that cab to extrom
Can't believe it....
Am i realy the first one downloaded the kitchen?
Good job gullum. Realy good.
Greetings from Germany,
skylow
Yes I am ready.. to cook..
Thank you for your work.
I'm now on my last stage to build the first WM6 rom to Prophet in Portuguese (I think)...
After two tries I think I got it now... But it's only a beta for now...
If anyone could help me with the dictionaries I would appreciate it!

Try this:
For dictionary(auto complete in keyboard)
http://www.portalppc.com/GL_Display.asp?SEC=7&EntryID=300
For spell check(in pocket word for example)

Thanks for the tutorial, it seems simple to do, but after download Windows Mobile 6 Professional Images (ESN).msi , (Spanish), it creates to me the file A.BIN.PAYLOAD, but to to realize this: I meet this problem
IMGFSFROMNB A.BIN.PAYLOAD IMGFS.BIN (it generates the file IMGFS.BIN) it leaves:
ImgfsFromNb 2.0 RC 2
Searching for IMGFS start...
Not IMGFS signature found. Exiting.
And does not create the IMGFS.BIN
it can help me?

ROM Cooking Information For Gene (P3400 / D600)

Tools I have tried so far to cook a personalised ROM for my Gene: (Authors name mentioned in green)
Tool to dump OS.nb and ExtROM.nb directly from Gene to SD card - Attached. Usage information here (Orefkov)
Tool to edit registry (default and user rgu files) for Gene - In this forum here (Orefkov)
HyperCore Kitchen from Anichillus (Includes the PKGTool, IMFG Tools and BuilOS) Device & Settings txt files for HyperCore to cook for Gene are attached here (Anichillus)
MSFlshTool from Scoter Kitchen for extracting the XIP out of OS.nb (procedure) (Scoter Kitchen)
Tool for extracting XIP out of OS.nb properly with procedures here (Anichillus)
XIPTool for dumping the extract .bin file and XIPPort tool for porting the core - Attached (Bepe)
Tools for relocating modules and files in XIP found here (Misar)
BuildOS tool from Kaiser Kitchen (Its got package tool and porting tool built-in) (Alex)
BenThon's MSCEInf and Ervius Package Creator to the for creating OEM Packages out of Cabs. Tutorial refered to creating the packages is here (Ervius & BenThon)
HTC ROM Tools for creating final .nbh file - Attached (Dutty)
FlashBootSplash tool for creating first splash screens - Attached. Usage information here (Vukile)
TFAT Image Editor for editing ExtROM (author unknown)
HSPL for Gene to be able to flash custom ROMs here - (procedure) (Olipro)
Excellent guidance for upgrading Gene ROM by Mobix here (Mobix)
I know there are a lot many other files for editing the rgu files and creating hv files but I didnt try them. I dumped the ROM successfully and still learning to delete or add packages. Although I am not saying that I successfully flashed my Gene with the ROM I cooked, but learning never stops till someone expert comes along to explain things and to guide us cooking wannabes to a nice kitchen and a nice personalised ROM Your suggestions and guidance and advices are all more than welcomed here
The post below is where I am going to post the packages I create and the one below that is where I am going to put up the problems I face so no one else will repeat and brick their phones
Also attached the original Gene RUU, just in case
I did my part of dumping the OS.nb in HyperCore as mentioned in anichillus's thread here. Then I used the package tool to make packages from the dump and transfer the SYS and OEM folder to Build. I haven't yet mastered the art of adding or deleting the packages here but I certainly deleted the useless images and theme files which eats up space. Post that I did the BuildOS which created the OS-New.nb very nicely. Used HTCrT tool to create the new RUU_Signed.nbh with the OS and ExtRom. While flashing the RUU showed "Flash Write Error" at about 99%. Need guidance after or prior to that, although will not stop trying and will keep posting the progress so far here
OEM Packages created by me
(A) OEM Packages created by me with Alex's procedures:
DciNoBar
FTouchFlo_V1_4_1
FTouchFloConfig_V0_9
HomePluginWM6
LG_Today_Buttons-ENG
PCMKeyboardEN-0_13
Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2_1_0_0
SMSDRFixWM5
Spacer2_ARM
DOWNLOAD Package A
Problems I have faced so far
When I tried to recreate the hive files (default and user) Problem was faced in default.hv. Attached CMD screen, default.rgu and boot.rgu file - Solution: Found by Orefkov here
After I tried to flash my Gene with my custom cooked ROM, it left me with a blank phone. Although I passed the 1st splash screen then it was blank - Solution: Found by Anichillus here
Thanks to following experts for guiding me and lending a helping hand

@Soni: There is nothing like exe file. You will get a .nbh file which is updated through ROM update utility.
Please read some of the threads for updating the ROM else you may brick your HTC Gene device. Also ensure that you are using the right version (OLD or NEW GENE).

I have tried this kitchen, and worked fine, but when I add some packages to the SYS folder, they wont build in the rom. In buildOS, I can see those packages are unchecked(while cooking).
How can I add packages to the rom?
^Xumit: Remove the file option.xml from your packages. You wont see them listed in the build os then, but the packages will compile fine. This file is responsible for that description appearing in buildos and by defualt it has option set to not compile the package, for some strange reasons. So if you dont want to show the package in buildos gui, which is of not much use, just delete this file. Otherwise, change the option inside it to include the package.

[Released v1.01]15/10/09 Beta x7500 Kitchen 6.5

This is the kitchen I am currently using to build my rom series, my main reasons for releasing this are to try and progress development of 6.5 builds on the athena.
I am going to assume that if you have in depth knowlege to rom building that you would have probably put your own kitchen together, so please dont post questions etc if you have tried to do something out of your comfort zone i.e porting new builds(this is a bit more involved)
The kitchen contains saved builds of my latest releases, 23060 and 23053, load whichever you wish and add and remove packages etc, I will try and assist as much as I can.
There are many guides on ervius kitchen I would suggest reading them if you are new to it.
My hope is that we can resolve the few remaining issues I have in a more efficient way than me spending 5/6 hours every night building and testing roms, the main existing problems are:
DRM
Manila
Autorotation
All the saved config files have been recmodded to attain max slot 0 memory allocation, I would not advise recmodding any more modules as this will probably cause a non booting rom.
I will try and update with latest versions with a config file as they become available.
Please do not release roms into the forums, my intention is that you use it to learn and build your own spec roms

***PLEASE NOTE***
THIS IS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE DOING, YOU RUN A HIGHER RISK OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE IF YOU GO IN BLIND, AS WITH ROMS THIS IS FOR SPL3.5 DEVICES, I AM MORE THAN HAPPY TO ASSIST ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT PROVIDING YOU ACCEPT I CANNOT GIVE ALL MY TIME TO THIS AS I HAVE A FAMILY AND A JOB TO LOOK AFTER, IF YOU NEED HELP I CAN WALK YOU THROUGH IT VIA MSN ETC

Lol, first hurdle, the kitchen is 802mb and sendspace wont allow me to upload more than 300mb
anyone got any ideas
can you upload a torrent?
ZIP > split > upload parts?
Split to 100MB parts and PLEASE upload it to Rapidshare
Thanks
you can rar/zip and split it into 250MB parts (less parts to download than to have each part at 100MB) or you can upload to torrent (but we would need seeders....the dedicated file servers are a better option though)
I managed to reduced the size somewhat and its now on megaupload, the link is now in the first post.
For those wishing a beginers course, I am going to try and do one tomorrow, but will start a seperate post for it.
I have not tested this kitchen but it should work fine.
hey avenger, will you be including the new 23071 build in the kitchen or for additional download? also does the kitchen offer xip and sys porting?

I will probably build a 23071 rom tonight and see how it looks, then consider releasing it into a kitchen, yes the kitchen offers sys and xip porting, but it needs a couple of things doing to get it to work with the athena kernel

As I asked in private messages. can u make a tut for this specially how to work with your kitchen xip/sys porting section?
for some reason the kitchen seems to stop being able to port over a xip...I don't know if the copy I had somehow got corrupted on my drive but I'm going to redownload and try again.
has anyone else been having the problem?

Lennie, this happened with my x7510 kitchen as well, the fix is to open the xip exporter tool bottom left of kitchen, there should be a button called something like, extract from payload? use that to extract the xip.old and see if that works

yeah it's there, but doesn't that mean I would have to have the os.payload for the newer rom that I want to get the xip from?
if I get a rom with build 28008 can I then use the kitchen to extract the os.payload and then use that to extract the xip.bin then use the xiporter in the kitchen and extract the xip? if i do that would it mess up the kitchen in anyway?

Sorry I thought you were having a different error relating to xip.old, from your pm I am assuming your not able to port the new xip.
I have used the msxip folder that comes with rom dumps to some success in the past by creating a new folder in kitchen/rom/shared/*create folder with new build number* copy the MSXIP Kernel folder into here for your new xip supplied with dump, and copy the packages.txt file from a working folder from another build.
(This is the new XIP files)
Then go to kitchen/rom/ATHE100/ *create folder with new build number* copy the OEMXIPKernel and packages.txt from a working ATHE100 folder into there.
(This is the old device specific xip part dumped from original rom)
You should find that you now have the new xip in the dropdown box of the kitchen, however I have found this very hit and miss and am currently struggling with porting 28014 using this method. If you search there are bits of advice about other tools able to dump XIP's that VK is not able to do, but I have not had the time to fully research it.
Let me know how you get on as my kitchen is currently crashing whenever I try and do this.

ok thanks. I'm giving it a try now, I put all the files in the place they're supposed to go however, I forgot what extension to rename BatchRecmod.jpg to (the file you had sent me)
EDIT: if I remember correctly BatchRecmod was a folder that you added the .jpg extension so you could send it to me, however, when I remove the extension I still can't access the contents inside...

A better option than the batchrecmod I sent you would be to search Da_g's thread in dev/hacking for an addition to the kitchen made by user XTEP it adds the recmod function to the extra buttons inside the kitchen.
However if not change the .jpg extension to .zip and then unzip and you should have the files you need

thank you very much, I think I found the addition by xtep in da_g's thread but I don't see how to add it to the kitchen...so I used the the files from the zip you sent me....I tried to cook and everything seemed as if it was going just fine, then bam! kitchen crashed. I'm going to try and get a working xip.bin to and see if the kitchen can extract it because using the msxipkernel does not seem to be a stable method.

I have been struggling with this as well, I have not managed to find a portable xip.bin for 28014 as of yet. If you find one let me know please.
