Hey guys...
I'm looking into getting a t-mobile vibrant, does anyone know if it works with rogers once its unlocked?
to be more specific, does 3G work?
I've heard some mixed opinions on this and its making me worry. Can anyone confirm whether it works without problems with a rogers sim in it?
thanks.
My guess you could modify the wdcma to work on 3g with Rogers, But remember The roger cell company was originally Rogers ATT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Wireless
Out of the box it will be edge, you will have to go onto the menu and adjust to make it recognize or force 3g on it
BTW I have done this and did get 3g where tmo is not offered but it is not as fast connection less than 1.2 mg at least where I was
thanks oka1
any other ideas?
Ok I guess I'm staying with my captivate =/

I'm travelling to US and wanted to buy a new phone and unlock it. I would like to know which phone do you guys recommend as long as I can unlock it to use with another GSM carrier. Which method to unlock should I use?
Samsung Captivate SGH-i897 Black 3G GSM Smart Phone for AT&T Only or Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 Black 3G Cell Phone for T-mobile Service Only
Thx

Do this method work?

Well, I can't advise you on the unlocking part, but you'd probably be better off getting a tmo vibrant over the captivate for 2 reasons.
1. Vibrant has froyo officially
2. Vibrant can also get AT&T 3g (though ymmv)
If I flash the phone with a new ROM it will still be locked right?
How do I get the unlocking code with T-mobile?
Yes, I do believe that even if you flash a new ROM over stock the phone will still be locked down to the carrier.
AFAIK, you would have to have been a Tmo customer for a while before you can ask for the unlock code.
If I know someone who is a tmo customer, can he gets me this unlock code?
Theoretically, it might work but I'm not sure if the phone has to match the one your friend has attached to his acct.
I'm running a Vibrant on AT&T. In most cities this works great, though you may lose 3g in cities that don't have the 1900 band. I just used the SGS unlock from Heroz (I think that's correct). It worked great. A person with a T-Mobile account can get you the unlock code as well, though it will take a day or two.
I would check which frequencies the carrier you intend to use the phone with uses, and pick the phone that matches those frequencies better. They are basically the same phone aside from the radios and physical appearance.
I bought my Samsung Galaxy Drod v2.1 when I was a T-Mobile customer. Then I unlocked the phone and moved to ATT (work reasons). Everything seems to be working ok but the GPS. Its kind of flaky. In fact, it has worked at all for months and then suddenly today, it started working. I dont know why. Here is my question:
1) Are there settings that would allow my Galaxy's GPS to work perfectly on ATT as it did on T-Mobile?
2) Is there a way to Flash a Android v2.2 onto my Galaxy on ATT?

I assume that by "Samsung Galaxy Drod v2.1" you mean "samsung galaxy vibrant with android 2.1", if so, then readng the sticky posts in here would've answered all your questions and also given you instructions on how to do everything with the vibrant.
to quickly answer your 2 questions:
1) Yes, there files you can flash too
2) Yes, look in the android development section
Thanks ID006. Looked but couldnt find it. I'll try again.....
I tried to find where I can load Android 2.2 but couldnt find it in the stickies. Does anyone have a link? Thanks.

I also ask questions like that. thanks
I've been having signal issues with my unlocked tmobile vibrant here in canada. I have telus signal in city (3g i assume) once i go out to the county i got nothing on my phone... i can see other providers just not telus.... and my friends who have telus iphones etc have 4 bars +.
After reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923712
Assuming the OP is correct in that the fascinate and vibrant are almost identical... would it be possible to switch the modem to solve my signal reception issues?
Thanks
** i've contacted telus and they dont have any answers for me... the phone cleared their online compatibility checker and im on my second SIM.
Any follow-up on this? Im on Wind right now with my T959, might have to switch providers... from what I understood the T959 does NOT use the same bands, so I'm wondering if that's your problem, and possibly my future one... let me know
I have the latest radio from Telus T959TKG2 and runs like a charm
Hello, im new on this forum and i need help!
I just had someone flashing my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 to Page Plus. After flashing the phone it seems not to be working properly,
First: i can make and receive calls, 3g working but extremely slow. dialed *22890 to activate and *22891 to update Prl, both worked.
Second: I have the 3g icon and the telephone icon on top the screen but the telephone icon has a triangle icon on the middle which mean its roaming but its NOT!
Third: I cannot send picture messages or receive them!
Guy who flashed the phone said that the PRL wasnt compatible with my area and after making his payment he left me with the phone not working properly!
I live In Rockland, Massachusetts, 02370 and i believe im using the PRL Number 52874.
Can someone help me have this phone working 100%?
Or at least help me fixing the TRIANGLE ICON......
Thanks in advance for all of you who tried to help me,
Wrong forum for Sprint anything. This forum is for the i9100, which is a GSM phone that won't even run on Sprint's network.
You probably want the Epic 4g touch forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281

Thanks letting me know man, ill be posting the same question on the other forum.
If you can help there...... Thanks again!
After 10 years with Verizon, I had enough (long story)... Switched over to T-Mobile recently with my Verizon Galaxy S5 Phone, however I have a few questions.
When I was on VZW I was able to root with towlroot, installed xPosed, and removed the Verizon bloatware. I then inserted the SIM from T-Mobile and made adjustments to the APN. It all seems to be working fine. I understand I will not get the full bandwidth, and I am OK because it was not worth $600 to purchase a new phone (Actually 3 new phones).
My questions are:
1) Should/Can I install SafeStrap and use one of the T-Mobile ROM, Kernals, etc... to be a "true" T-Mobile mobile phone?
2) Are there any T-Mobile specific APK's I should have?
3) I assume I can not get the wireless calling which T-Mobile uses?
4) Any other tips and trick from people that did the same thing?
So far happy with T-Mobile. Thanks in advance for the help.
..
Thank questions answered. I will search around.
