Wanted: "Nookie Cookie" Dev - Nook Color Android Development

So it's not a well-kept secret that there's been some cm7 "baking" going on the past month or so involving a dedicated crew of about fifteen hearty souls. It's very close, but there are still two kernel/sleep issues. Really down to those before kmobs, thedood and the Team Douche crew feel an initial release is appropriate.
If there's a devel out there with TI OMAP power experience, you're wanted on freenode. Enquire at #nookie.
That is all.

Wow that's interesting.

Here is where we are currently with the sleep issue. This is a kmsg with verbose pm_debug. About half way through the log you'll see where I initiated suspend. Screren turns off, hard locks and eventually it kernel panics.
http://pastebin.com/QFt3exxn
For clarification this is for CM7 Gingerbread not Froyo. We will work on Honeycomb when source is released and Cyanogenmod adopts it.

I will look for u guys to develop this port. But only tomorrow after 11am. Est. And I got no idea what #nookie is.

Is it possible to put in a wake lock to avoid the problem? screen goes off but no hard lock? not as good for battery life but may be a decent temporary work around?
I use softlocker on my NC 2.1 to prevent sleep but still enable screen off. Barely uses any juice. Faster "wake" times too as it is not in suspend mode.

Probably doable (I mean, "don't ever sleep" works too) but not up to the CM standards.. They're sticklers for it "just working". Which is a good thing I'd say.

Sounds like deeper-blue http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3243204

Android 3.0 Honeycomb Image
I decided to release what I have so far. May everybody have some fun with it.
But first of all I have to thank the CM people, especially mbm, nemith, fattire and cvpcs for their work on gingerbread which helped me a lot in understanding where to look and what to patch.
What works:
-Graphics acceleration
-Accelerometer
-Wireless!
-Touchscreen
-Buttons
-Sleep/Wakeup stuff

So the Droid X has much the same hardware, right? If not the same SOC then very close?

Thanks for all your great work. It's been amazing to watch everything that's happened over the past couple months.
Not that this is a permanent solution in itself even if it worked, and you've probably thought of it before, but does using the Setting Profiles app to disable wifi just before the screen shuts off help? The NC handles wifi sleep weirdly in general.
Even longer shot: Does removing the GB screen-off animation help?

If any DEVs are interested in getting more things to work for the Nexus One let me know. The nook community did fix a lot of things from the SDK for their device it's impressive but possible
Working :
3d acceleration (still a few glitches)
Charging led
Data
Flash led
Orientation sensors
SMS (sdk sms application wont show what you type as a message but still send and receive properly)
Trackball notifications
Not working :
Audio
Bluetooth
Calls
Wifi
etc etc etc...

Awesome! I will try it
OMG thanks man, i was hoping for this!
Do you plan including apps2ext in the future? Can't live without it on gingerbread.
Thanks again!
K so far what seems to not work:
wifi, accelerometer, sound, camera, bluetooth, etc...
when you launch the camera it switches the view in landscape and you can keep using it that way after (menus work better in that view)
3d performance is very bad but what can we expect from such an early port!
Over time i think it will improve to a point it will be worth using everyday!
Good job, i'll try is as soon as i can!
Downloading right now, will report back with whatever I can figure out is working or not
edit: same issues as previously stated. Nothing else found yet :/
I was wondering when someone was going to jump all over this and I'm glad to see it happen.

I am NOT tri-booting. The ICS that you saw was Evervolv and it was broken. I removed it right after making that video. I will NOT EVER be booting two different versions of Android on the same device.....EVER.
A grateful thank you.
Rev, I would like to thank you for your great tutorials. I watched your cm for dummies several times before I got the nerve up to possibly brick my new TP. Needless to say I didn't! I am running Xron 2.9.1 and plan to flash ICS once its a little more mature. I watched your video on flashing Xron and fixing the prop.build and both helped tremendously. So thank you.

I am awaiting your ICS vs. CM7 review, but since you made the X-Ron video you've seem to have gone to CM7... and now ICS (which that I do understand).
Was the xron before cm 3.5? Just curious, I had avoided the alpha till I found your You-Tube and phtt, so straight forward that I did it and no turning back, plus I now understand more of the root terminology. Dual boot's just a plus.
Soon Root my HTC Ineradicable S HBOOT 1.13.0000, now that I have the basic understanding.

I am working on the comparison video this weekend. I'm hoping to get something up tomorrow. There is just so many things to compare that I'm trying to make it worth watching. Check tomorrow evening for it.
Thanks Rev
Let me add my thanks for the great vids. WebOs was fun, but ICS is the tablet experience I was looking for when I bought the TP.
Just an FYI for those of you who, like me, hadn't installed CM7 in a while and got stuck on the command line screen with a device not found message and couldn't figure out what to do next.
Reboot your touchpad into WebOS. Select device info, reset options, then reset (or maybe it's reboot--can't remember). When the screen goes black, hold the volume up button and the device will reboot into a screen with the USB symbol. Now enter the command
novacom.exe boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller2
in the DOS window on your PC and you should be all set (assuming you have the necessary files in the appropriate directories as described by reverendkjr).
When I installed cm9 I felt that same feeling I had when first installing android. But this time having rev's video was a good feeling to be able to follow all the correct steps. Thanks rev

[DEV-ONLY][KERNEL]Bricked - Sweep2Wake

Testing done. Source up. Happy picking.
I wrote this for the Sensation and mdeejay did harass me to port it over to the shooteru (I don't own an EVO), well:
Challenge accepted!
Download: Don't click me anymore...
Source: Click me...
I ported my work from the Sensation and modified it quite extensively to work with the atmel driver instead of the cy8c one from the Sensation.
The first version had some problem with the capacitive leds (null pointer dereference ), thanks to the logs of @teihoata this could be fixed.

Hi,
Let me clarify that I am not a DEVELOPER, or LOGGER or TESTER of any sorts
I just want to put forth that a similiar thing called Slide2Wake, which was developed by bponury on our XDA forums was released somewhere ealrier this year. It was actually coded much earlier but wasnt released. I remember coming across it during Kamma's kernel time, which is in October or November 2011.
This is his thread ;
http://forum.ponury.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=354&sid=837533d86c47eac9495375908d131899
In his thread, he allowed us to port in certain kernel module, which allows any kernel developer to include. This inclusion will allow us to do "Slide 2 wake"
Once the kernel code is included, users of the HTC EVO3D are to download an app called ;
Ponury Gesture Mod (currently version 1.4)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ponury.pgm&hl=en
This app allows an interface to configure the "Slide 2 wake" feature, which if you watch his Youtube here;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GswWnvxuCXk
You will find out its the similiar thing with your "Sweep 2 wake" function
However, Ponury's one is kernel module and app, based only for EVO3D.
The app allows you to turn it off, and on, and separately if you only need 1 part of it to work.
Some kernels currently that definitely support it are Leedroid's latest, Anthrax latest and Anryl's latest, while some other kernels like Unity3b by Mdeejay doesnt
I noticed capacitive buttons LED bugs exist, depending on the ROM and the Tweaks.apk settings and Autobrightness, etc. Overall, it works almost most of the time.
What I would like to know is how different is your "Sweep 2 wake" compared to "Slide 2 wake" for us to give this a whirl ?
I remember battery drain issues with screen off present due to the fact that the screen is consistently trying to register touches in a particular fashion, and if you touch the screen for 30 minutes non stop (like I did once in a meeting), these touches are still being recorded and using battery. The screen didnt turn ON (because I was randomly touching everywhere else besides the buttons), yet when I checked some logs and task monitors, it showed that I kept interacting with the kernel and CPU was busy. This did drain battery. The only way it did drain actually.
Apologize in advance for this post if it messes up your thread, and effort.
I can dwell into the testing of this , once some things are clarified
Much thanks for your effort, and Mdeejay of course

Yes, and since we never saw the source of the slide2wake and it was made into a money making machine, I wrote it myself from scratch and opensource
It completely works with interrupts, meaning: As long as you don't constantly touch your screen with capacitive material (like your finger) there will be no additional battery drain and the phone will sleep as usual.
Additionally this is completely kernel side, so no other apps or anything else "bloating" is required. (and is has a on/off switch)
This also lights up the capacitive buttons as soon as you start sweeping so that you can see the buttons in total darkness. (not shown in the video because it was not in there at that time)
A lot of bugfixes and work went into the sensation version and I don#t expect anything else to be needed here. So it is more than likely that the zImage above will not even work remotely like what I just described.
It's great.
Chad had ported showp's mod to the CDMA evo 3d, but removed it - worked great while it lasted.
Testing done, source is up, op edited. Happy picking.
Awesome work!
How can I test this ? I am using anryl's kernel. Can the zImage be integrated somehow ?. I am not an expert to go into source code territory

This is a dev thread, though this should be safe there will be no guarantee. Just like any other kernel in the whole Dev section.
I think, this is very them same as slide2wake.
The bad think on slide2wake was, that the touch interface was always online, what resulted in a abnormal battery consumption. I hope this is not so in this Mod...

This is not meant as a release, it was meant as a development post to help getting debug output for a port (since I don't own the device). I gathered enough debug output to fix up the remaining issues, mdeejay confirmed that it works on his phone flawless and I put up the source. Because I don't own an EVO and I only develop for devices I own, I will not maintain a separate kernel. You should be able to get this sweep2wake port @ mdeejays kernels soon.
As long as the cloth is not so thin that you can look through it and it is made out of a non capacitive material there will be no problem. But who does put his/her smartphone in the trouser-pocket without having it in the phones bag? (or: who does not have a bag for his/her 600 Euro++ phone? )
http://www.fitbag.de/[/QUOTE]
I believe most people only have a case rather than a bag. With the case on, the surface of the phone (screen + capacitive buttons) are still exposed. I'm just wondering if the heat in the pocket will still activate the buttons somehow.
I have tried the slide2wake (ponury gesture mod) myself, and it drains battery alot, even when the phone is out of the pocket.

Open WebOS, anyone interested?

Hi there, it's me again!
After being away for quite some time due to a lot of issues with my netbook, and being busy with school, I recently checked the progress on the Flyer. As expected, Dexter did an excellent job already on Jelly Bean.
I tried the ROM, and I gotta say I'm quite satisfied with it. FWIW, I am thinking about getting the 3.0 kernel from the DHD to run on the Flyer. But, I have another project I'm thinking about which sounds more interesting.
So, is anyone interested in Open WebOS on the HTC Flyer? I am considering to give it a try this week, but only if there is some potential interest from the community. It would pretty much be an effort where I try to combine various challenges: getting WebOS to boot, and getting the Raspberry Pi to compile Android kernels, since my netbook does a horrible job at this.
Please report if it sounds interesting for you, and if I get positive answers, I'll do some research on the structure of OWOS.
Although WebOS seems nice I'd rather see you beat the crap out of JB and try to get it fully working until you say "I can't take this any further".

I'm not sure, I actually think JB has 1 major dev working on it. Sometimes it's better to have multiple, good, mostly stable options too chose from than 1 completely perfect one.
That aside, I don't use bluetooth headset so some people who do really want the devs to pool their work into that.
I'm all for web os though. And dual boot (don't push yourself ) would be awesome.

I am using the latest JB ROM atm., and I'm wondering (since I haven't followed the development the last 2 months): what is really broken atm? Aside from bluetooth.
Mine VM with Ubunto is stil there for u if u decide to give Flyer some more of your time. Am I interested? I am interested in Flyer with as much hardware working posible; working BT for voice calls, music and movei playback. As long as those work well i dont care even if it is Win 3.11EE if it runs nice and smooth. However Geting camera and hw movie playback suport on JB would be very nice and would get the ROM to TOP level. U cracked those nuts on ICS; any way u give it a try on JB?
Welcome Back CHAOS I agree with Antis (even though I don't really Know the advantage of WebOs) i was hoping that You could do something like get the front camera working for Skype

No HW playback support, no cammera and videorecorde, some flickering i belive,... rest is nearlly all there! So close to top BUT BT is FIXED (no report if for calls as well but rest been tested and reported 100% working BT functionalities)
I am not sure dual boot would be neat but i know thats asking alot. but like every one else don't matter to me if it JB OR ICS as long as we can get a nice and smooth working rom that has BT good HW for movies ect and cameras working i will be as happy as a puppy with to peckers ....

Hardware Acceleration for video playback. WebOS would be interesting.

Wow..it would definitely be very interesting! WebOS still will be a cool OS to try out.
By the way, thanks for coming back & welcome!
WebOS would be so slick.

@Chaos-X u been asked for Kernel source on :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724246&page=54
i belive to help with video decoding fix wich is missing in latest JB... U think u can help with this?
I personally would prefer a fully working JB ROM (we're sooooo close now), but WebOS would be a cool OS to fiddle with.

If you help him do it, it will be best ROM. Please.
yes, or maybe no...
while I'm a huge fan of webOS and would love to see it on the flyer I think your time may be better utilized by teaming with Dexter to finish ironing out the wrinkles in his JB build first, then perhaps a dual-boot option?

I loved web os on my palm pre, just didn't like the hardware. I would love to have it on my view. Especially if we could dual boot it.

Slide out keyboard had very small keys and the slider mechanism was very poor. Screen was also very small compared to today's phones. The only nice thing was wireless charging. That was awesome.
WebOS ran very well on it though.

[ROM] CM10 PURE AOSP 4.1.2 JB-Final.

Hello People,
This time i bring you a cm10 build from the man it self "Hashcode" for our beloved Nook Tablet.
He is the one who took at his shoulders the Kindle Fire kernel and rom development and skyrocket their sales(Amazon).
I think no more needs to be said about the awesomeness behind this developer but to show our appreciation for finding the time to compile a test release from Nook Tablet Git.
We all expect more to come from this great day forward but nothing is promised and we all need to give our feedback and report issues from this ROM in this thread.

Gapps:

And as always,
Enjoy your Nook.
Added a flashable package from a new code implemented into rom by Mik_os
This will give you peace of mind in touch controller firmware flashing as it is very user friendly and straight forward.
Just flash this with recovery and you will find a new package in android app drawer that can test and see what firmware version you are at and offer you the opportunity to flash the other. Other can be 2 or Multitouch and depends on what firmware you are at the moment you run the application.
Nice!!!!!
* DISCLAIMER *
To be perfectly clear: This was a flash .zip built straight from the device/kernel sources that the current NT devs have worked very hard on.
I built it as a test case to see if there were compile issues and/or other external problems with the existing builds compared to the Kindle Fire builds which don't show the same issues.
THIS ROM IS NOT NEW. I didn't do anything but sync down the 2 acclaim projects press "go" on the compile.
Only issue I see of now is apps on SD card still disappear when nook reboots. I will report any other issues as I see them.
Thanks for all your hard work devs on the nook. To think I was about to give it up for a nexus 7. No way now I love this thing.

Hey,
loving the development on the Nook!
I have flashed this ROM after full wipes, etc etc..
Everything seems to work..however, a big difference between this ROM and the 12/10 release from the other thread has been lots of choppyness/lag. Sometimes things lag so badly they crash..ie when in Settings. I'm not the most tech-savvy person so forgive me.
ps. it might be just me, but the colors seems sharper/cleaner/nicer!! And despite my comment about lag..when there is no lag, it is very responsive and even faster than 12/10 release..odd
Very nice otherwise
Mike
Downloading , i'll flash this rom
thanks u so much.

It is not "simple" to mess with my wife's tablet. Nor is an experiment of this nature CONCLUSIVE. I have no interest in "trying" something that is well known to be broken/useless. Much better to leave it stock in that case, alter only when known functional.

No. I put it on my mother's 16GB Nook Tablet and it's miles better than CM7 was. Not perfect but no serious flaws.
Has anyone experienced download problems that cause lag that doesnt allow you to reboot or poweroff or do anything?

I have rooted every device I own. I also have a Nexus 7 and a Nook Tablet. In somewhat of defense of the guy earlier working 10 hours, wife and 4 kids sometimes it is easier to ask rather than "just flash it". I want to use my Nook so my kids ages 2 and 4 can watch Netflix on long car trips. The Nook is much more of a tank than the Nexus 7 and would bee much less bummed if the Nook gets broken over my Nexus.
I'm not saying my time it's any more important than yours. And it doesn't take any more effort to answer a simple question than it does to tell someone Rio flash back to stock.
I would like to know if Netflix works on this build? If so I will flash it ASAP. If not I will not get my Nook out of my nightstand and will keep checking back once and a while.
Thanks.
