Ok just got a replacement Vibrant. I Immediately went to the official release of froyo to test. Installed fine using KIES. Attempted to Root and did so successfully using the SuperOneCLick app wich when finished tested and confirmed root. Went to install Busybox and it gives me the Nand locked error.
1)Is there a way to confirm phone is nand locked?
2)Ive only found a way to unlock nand is for the Bell version or requires a paid app or extra non Tmobile sim card (wich I dont have). Is there a way to unlock nand for Tmobile not involving either sim card or cash?
3)Is it possible to odin a different rom/kernel (namely TW's Newest Nero) if phone is nand locked and have working busy box/root?

Yes it downloads busybox and then says "failed" after verifying busybox. Says cannot get root permissions. Please verify you have root and Busybox.

type "su" (no quotes)
what did it return?
SU comes up with "Permission denied". Should I try using the "update.zip" method with froyo? As i said the other program confirmed root supposedly. Super User Is installed BTW.

Ok that was the guide i was following. Issue was that whenever I tried to dl the recommended file manager from market , It would show the dl completeing and then close with the application never installing and not showing up in applications. I had already had ES File explorer installed as that was my favorite on my initial vibrant (pre official 2.2) because the ease of transferring files wirelessly and other functions. I uninstalled ES and ran Titanium again and this time was prompted for SU rights. After giving rights to Titanium i again ran the "Problems" button and ths time busybox installed. Restarted Ti and ran "Problems" and updated busybox just fine.
Seems my immediate issue is done. Now on to backup and then ROM's.
You, my friend, deserve a big, sloppy, man kiss.
*BTW The app Super Manager is still not installing for me even after removal of ES and reboot of phone.
Open titanium backup

Wipe data
Wipe it again for good measure.
Still in tb
Menu > market doctor

SOC windows error / help!
Whenever i try to run the Superoneclick program it gives a windows error & doesn't run.
I get it that this is an important help in rooting a phone & none of the other methods work on the X10 mini pro with the same firmware i have which is : 2.1.1.A.0.6 so if there is anyone who can help , thank you in advance

Had the same issue when I tried to root my stock 2.2 Vibrant.
Busybox has to be installed somewhere in /system, I believe. The version of 2.2 that Samsung Kies installs, however, has /system packed completely full of bloatware, so there's no room for busybox.
What worked for me was to root with SuperOneClick, then reboot my phone. That got the Superuser app working, so I could use a file manager (I used Super Manager) with root privileges to go into /system and delete some of the bloat to make room for busybox.
An alternative choice is to just flash something else, instead of sticking with a rooted stock 2.2 firmware. As far as I know, all stock 2.1 builds have room in /system for whatever you might need to put there.

I used Super Manager for the job, but I think about any file manager that can use root privileges would work.
Be sure to only delete bloat. Stuff like Sims 3, Amazon mp3, Slacker Radio, that sort of thing. Those are really just apps, and have no business being in /system. They're only put there because T-Mobile didn't want us to be able to delete the bloat they were paid to pre-load onto our phones. /system also holds all sorts of stuff your phone needs to work properly, so you can end up forced to Odin to stock if you delete stuff that's not bloat.

I was on stock 1.8.3. I have never rooted before. I tried the gingerbreak.exe and gingerbreak.apk method. Do I have root? Well, you tell me. I did alot of reading here to see what to do. I installed Rootcheck and Connect bot. According to both of them I have root.
I've installed Titanium backup (free) and Shootme (was one of the apps recommended to use to see if have root).
Each time I open Backup I get the following message: Your system settings will prevent you from restoring applications. To correct this, go to your phone's Settings, then in "Applications" and tick the "Unknown Sources" checkbox. I don't have an "Unknown Sources checkbox.
Each time I run Shootme I get the message: Shootme has been granted Superuser permissions...Trying to start server....Failed starting server. Please check you have "Root" access on your device and enabled access to the lower level graphics.
I have Superuser in my apps. Everything Ive installed for the rooting process shows up there as allow (ConnectBot, Gingerbreak, Root Check, Shootme Titanium Backup).
Regarding Sideloading........
I've tried to enable sideloading using Gladenable. It shows:
Allow Superuser request on your phone. Files copied. Press any key to continue. I press enter.
It asks Do you want to install sideloading? [y/n] I type y and hit enter.
It shows Allow Superuser request on your phone..
Permission denied. Press any key to continue.
I don't need tethering so i type n. Phone reboots.
I tried using Superoneclick's Allow Non Market Apps. This is what it shows:

Try this, double-click Superuser to make sure it's actually running and then go back into Titanium Backup. If that's not working, then download "Busybox" (if it's not already showing in your app drawer). Download,install, and let BusyBox do its thing.

That is weird.
I have the Bell version so unfortunately I can't speak for newer AT&T firmware.
This is my 5th Android phone, and gaining root on this is the biggest PITA I've ever dealt with. Half the time you're rooted and the other half you're not. I kinda knew that things weren't gonna be easy when Superoneclick had issues with this device.
Anywhoo I'm waiting for an "Official" stock Bell SBF to surface before into the deeper end of the pool on this device...

download "terminal emulator" from the market, open it, and type "su" and then enter. if you see a # sign, you are rooted. if not, you are not rooted.

Well I am rooted.
And after numerous attempts with Gladenabler I finally have sideloading. I tried something different. With the phone connected to the computer I turned USB debugging off then turned it on. Then ran Gladenaber. On the first try I finally got the superuser request, but the sideloading permission was still denied. I tried it one more time and whoo hoo it gave me sideloading.

I have a HTC IS. I have rooted it .... well ...
In fact, if I use terminal emulator, I do have root access: su brings the prompt sign to #.
But, if I use connectbot, then not root access: su does bring the message "permission denied".
Is this correct??

I used Root check and it reported that my root access was not properly configured.
I booted in recovery mode, and activated "check permissions". Next, root check confirmed my root access.
Superuser.apk is force closing on me. I can run TiBu and Wireless Tether (both of which require root access), so I know I have root access, but when I try to open the superuser.apk, or when I install / upgrade an app I get a FC from the superuser.apk.
Where I am:
-ATT Atrix, stock / bootloader locked with 4.5.91 applied through USB over stock / bootloader locked / rooted 4.1.83
-Did the preinstall root method from briefmobile after the 4.5.91 update
-Updated the superuser.apk from the market
-Rebooted a number of times
At this point the phone is running fine, and I need it for work so I want to stay away from a potential brick, but I have gone through custom ROM's on previous phone (ATT Captivate). The FC is really more of an annoyance, and I'd like to make sure that if / when I decide to go the custom ROM route my su is working as it should.
Any thoughts / suggestions?
OK, I read a bit more and tried to clear the data on the superuser app. Now, after a reboot, TiBu can't even get root access because the app FC's when I open TiBu.
Help?!

Have you tried unrooting, factory reset, and then rooting yet?...
No, haven't tried that. To unroot, should I just uninstall the superuser.apk? I don't think I've seen an unroot script for 4.5.91 yet.

OK, it appears to be resolved.
What I did:
-uninstall the superuser.apk through Manage Applications
-download the preinstall file from the XDA forum post (versus the file from briefmobile.com)
-re-ran the same steps
-rebooted
All appears to be working now. My guess is that it was user error (read: I did something wrong the first time).

my Flyer is S-OFF and rooted succesfully. But Titanium Backup is not able to get su-rights.
I see in the "Superuser" App that Titanium Backup is not listed there, but whenever I launch Titanium it is not asking for su-rights.
Any idea?

This didnt help. Other apps that request "su" just work fine.
The problem is that TitaniumBackup just doesnt ask for "su" when I launch it, and it is not listed under su-apps in the "Superuser" application.
I had TitaniumBackup working when I had my Flyer term-rooted last week once, now as I have it S-OFF and perm-rooted TB just doesnt work anymore, as it is not asking SU permissions on launch anymore ?!
You can try upgrading Superuser inside TB. Press the "Problem?" button inside TB..
There is no such option anymore on the latest TB versions, as TB since then uses his own busybox. There is a option in "preferences" to disable this and use the Rom's busybox, but also checking that option did not help.
Is TB working on your Flyer?
The strange thing is that it worked fine when I had a temp root, and only now with perm root it is not asking for su-rights anymore...
I have the paid Pro version 3.8.9.2 and it still has the "Problems?" button. It works fine with my S-Off and rooted Flyer.
Mine is 3.9.1 (also paid), downloaded from the market.
Under problems it only has "See Wiki / Preferences / Upgrade Superuser".

TB works fine for me, as well.
With the help of the Titanium Backup support staff i got my problem solved:
There was a old "su" in the directory "/data/bin". After deleting that "su" there, I ran TB again, and see: it asked for root permissions, I gave them and now TB works fine on my Flyer too!
This is how my Flyer is set up now:

This does not work, I tried it, and it said the rooting was complete. After I tried to install some root apps, they did not work. So I tried it again, but it says that I do have root access.
Hmm. Which superuser app did it install? It's not uncommon to need to either update the superuser app and / or update the SU binary (should prompt through the app if needed). Go to the Play Store and see if there is an update to the app, then open it and see if it prompts you to update the binary as well. If you don't have the Play Store on your device, just let me know which version of the SU app was installed and I'll see if there's is an update available. I don't get the chance to mess with many off brand products like this, so do not have direct experience, just tons of android experience in general.

No, was referring to which Superuser app was installed during the root process. Typically this should be either Koush's SuperUser or Chainfire's SuperSU. And test with another app as Titanium can be a little weird with root access on some devices as well as needing Busybox to run properly and not all root methods also set up Busybox. I have Prestigio Multiphone PAP4300 DUO, I tried all rooting crap and it didnt work. BUT one did worked. It is used on PC. You connect your phone to pc and then run the program, and choose which method you want to use(depends on phone). After some tries it worked. I dont remember what was the software called, but if I find it, I will surely edit my post.
There was no program installed during the rooting process.

Then VERY unlikely it worked. You can doublecheck and install this and see what it says: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu . It'll most likely say you are missing the SU binary and fail to install it for you without proper root. Other options include CWM recovery and a custom prerooted rom.
