I updated my phone to 2.1-update1 and at first i could only get my sim card to work half the time. Now my phone says no sim card and will not detect it at all!!! I cant make phone calls or anything! Ive tried taking it out, wiping it, restarting, uninstalling all task killers, and now im trying to put it in another phone then back in my xperia. Has anyone crossed this issue when updating to 2.1update1?

Just flashed my X10 to the TripNaver 2.3 and now I am not getting any service. Any suggestions? Flashed with Sim Card installed. What do I need to do? Thanks for helping a NOOB!!!
OK, for anyone else having this problem after flashing with your sim card in.
Turn Phone off.
Remove battery and sim card
Replace battery and re-boot phone until it finally recognizes that there is not a sim card installed.
Turn phone back off.
Remove battery and re-install sim card.
Turn phone back on and after a few seconds it will pick up the sim card and you will be good to go.
Hope this helps someone!!!!
Good morning all together,
since I updated my SK17i with the official ICS update, I have problem with my SIM card: Some times my phone tells me, that my SIM card was removed and that the phone has to be rebooted. Other times I wake up the screen an see, that it prompts me for my PIN. The phone looks like it rebooted on its own. Has anybody else of you this problems since the last update? Or is it just me an I should try a new clean install...
My config:
SK17i
4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.431)
Kernel 2.6.32.9 Stock (no root)
Unlocked Bootloader (Testpoint)
Baseband .72
Thank you for your advice.

Insert the SIM card properly. It seems that the SIM card is not tproperly inserted in it's slot.
It's probably loose, causing it to come out just a little on it's own, and then again placing itself (due to movement of the phone). That's why it is asking you the PIN again and again.
If the problem persists after insterting the SIM properly, go for a clean install. It will make things perfectly alright.
Thanks,
Rick

If SIM card doesn't stay in place or the chip part has been scratched, take new one from your operator.
my phone lost signal iregullary... if my phone lost signal, it said that my sim card ist not detected. But after i reboot the phone, the signal is back until it lost again by itself and i must reboot it again. This happend very iregullary. That's why i cannot said i happened after i run any apps or after i do something with the phone... i try already a lot of modem, but the problem ist still there... i try also to format my efs folder and restore it again. it works for 1 day, but after that i lost my signal again. This happened very oft (maybe 2-3 times in a day).i tried also to flash different ROM, but the problem is not gone.
The problem is there since i upgrade the android from 2.3.6 to 4.0.3.... now i am in Custom Rom XWLPT. The provider is O2 Germany.
can somebody help me with this problem.
I had this problem also... try another sim card... that was the only thing that worked for me... i went to my provider and got it exchanged with a new sim card. Ask for a 128kb one.

So I finally got around to rooting my phone to get rid of bloatware. I deleted something I shouldn't have, though, because I got stuck in the LG Security Error boot loop. Sooo, I reinstalled stock firmware, but now my SIM card won't read. Any ideas of what could be causing this?
I realize I should have unlocked the bootloader but, well, oops.
I ended up reinstalling the stock firmware using the LGNPST setup. I tried two separate files, the .tot's for ICS and JB, but the problem persisted.
My phone still knows it's IMEI # and although I've tried multiple SIM cards, my phone couldn't read any of them. I have a SIM card that wasn't working in my E970 in my backup phone and it's connecting to the network just fine.
I downloaded a SIM utility from the Android market, and even if I insert a SIM card, the utility just says that the card is "Absent".

Hi guys
I have a big issue with my S3 GT I9300. This morning, everything was running well and suddenly i got the error message "No SIM card, insert a SIM card". I didn't try to flash any ROM, or put any root or something. I was on my desk, the phone was on the table and when i checked it a few minutes later : no network and SIM card error message...
Until now i was on I9300XXUFME3 ROM. I tried to clean the sim card, the sim card slot, push the sim card while the phone was turning on (maybe it wasn't touching correctly the pin), but still getting the same issue. My IMEI is OK, still the original one (no 00 or 0049, etc).
That's why i decided ot flash a orginal ROM and flashed my phone to I9300XXUGMJ9. Flash is OK but still getting the network issue (no sim card inserted)..
I couldn't try my phone with an other SIM as I was alone at the office but i guess the issue comes from the phone as my SIM card is not old at all (i have it for 6 months only) and I don't remove it often from the phone.. Until this morning, my phone (bought it from someone 6 months ago= was working perfectly and I didn't flash it since May 2013, so I don't really understand..
I also tried Ariza's patch (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1918601) but when I press "Apply fix", it starts downloading and stays at 0%.. Nothing seems to be downloading.
Any help would be very greatful guys, thank you.. :crying:
Don't go flash crazy, you'll do more damage with that patch.
Sounds like your sim card reader is faulty, not an expensive item to have repaired.

Hello,
I just went to an Orange store here in Paris and the issue was simply a deffective SIM card.. They replaced it by a new one and got the issue fixed
Thanks a lot guys for your kind help!
Hi guys, i have similar problem, i tried different sim cards, none worked, tried changing the whole card reader with a brand new one, but it didn't fix the problem.
everything started approximately a month ago, or even more, i tried rooting the phone after applying the update but i missed up and almost killed the hone, after allot of effort i managed to bring it back to life and re-installed the firmware update, but the phone started giving me the "Not registered on network" error, and the IMEI changed to that 0049 thing, then it started telling me to insertsim card.
the thing is, before all this happens I had no idea how to important it is to backup, so I have no EFS backup
so, any ideas what could be the cause? and how to fix it?
