When I try to 'reinstall packages', I get this error:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I looked all over the place and can't find anything to fix this problem. Someone help me please!

Are you trying to install bionix or already have it installed. Basically something is wrong with the update.zip on your sd-card.
In case you tried to rename something you downloaded from here to update.zip, do not do this. The update.zip that is created by Rom manager (or obtainted by a few less common methods) should be left alone. This is what the stock recovery loads in order for you to access the ClockworkMod Recovery. You must flash roms like bionix inside ClockworkMod Recovery by chosing to "install zip from sdcard" then navigating to the file.
Hope that helps.
Yeah, I have the update.zip file on my SDcard that has not been touched, and the ROM is on the bottom of update.zip. I'm trying to pass 'reinstall packages' in order to go into recovery mode.

I'm not sure what "on the bottom of update.zip" means. However to fix the issue of getting into recovery, simply load your existing rom and download (if you haven't already) Rom Manager from the market (the free version is fine). Then chose to install Clockworkmod recovery. Then go back into recovery and reinstall packages again (sometimes you have to reinstall packages twice before it works).
After speaking to a few people, they told me a solution to the signature problem. I downgraded from 3e to 2e and now it kind of works. Instead of getting the errors now, my phone simply reboots back in Recovery Mode instead of going into CWD(?) Mode.
Download rom manager and flash cw recovery again like the guy above said

I just rooted the phone, and installed the clockwork mod, using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099, did everything correctly the only difference was that my phone did not reboot (at least I don't remember that it did, I believe I just had to turn it on myself). Anyway, I then installed rom manager and "flashed clockwork recovery". I later tried to "reboot into recovery" through Rom Manager and when it booted through the stock recovery (2e) It displayed the following "failed to verify whole-file signature" and it said some other crap. What should I do? My phone is running stock OTA 2.1 ea28 and I want to put EB01 or something of that nature. Help me please.
update: i just uninstalled Rom Manager, i just read that its not always compatible and creates problems...what should i do now? should i use odin again to reinstall clockwork?
Dont use ROM Manager, its not 100% fascinate friendly check out my guide @ androod development. Dl cwm in step 8 and flash it with odin
ok i just flashed it with odin using your file, but since I don't have rom manager anymore how do i access clockwork recovery, (in other words how do i flash roms now)?
you can boot into recovery for holding down the up and down volume buttons while it powers up, until the samsung logo appears. then choose "install zip from sd card".

it takes me to stock recovery(2e) and there is no option there to "install zip from sd card"...I'm confused...am i missing something?

xHoLyx, just tried applying the file you just gave me (I placed it on the sd card) through stock recovery and I get: E:failed to verify whole-file signature and E:signature verification failed. What should I do now?

Refer to my guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001064
Follow the steps.
yeah dude, you got it. you can flash any ROM of your choice.
But before doing it, go into Recovery mode and ALWAYS wipe Data(unless told not necessary), cache, Dalvik(find this in Advance)..!!!
Press "Thx" button and please leave post in my guide so others will know it works.
thanks a bunch! i don't know what i'd be doing if it wasn't for your help. running froyo now. thanks!!
No problem. Always at your service. Just hit me up again if u find any errors/problems.

I'm trying to use Rom Manager to backup my Vibrant for the first time. I'm running Stock Froyo.
I tell Rom Manager to flash the clockwork recovery, select Vibrant S and it "succeeds"
I then tell it to backup current ROM, and it has me confirm the name of the backup and then reboots. At reboot I get a few lines of yellow text that says Intalling Multi-CSC which seems to work.
It then just sits there. I assume I need to select "reinstall packages". When I do it gets a signature verification error on the update package.
I must be doing something wrong!
Reboot your phone into cwm recovery and backup from there. If your having issues getting into cwm recovery, just keep "reinstalling packages" in stock recovery. Also make sure update.zip is in the root of your INTERNAL sd card.
Future questions should be put in the q&a section. Not general

Sorry for picking the wrong section.
I have verified that Rom Manager did put an update.zip in the top level internal.
However, every time I select backup rom from update manager it does the same thing. It reboots and when I select reinstall packages I get
Install from sdcard
Finding update package
verifying update package
(all in yellow) followed by a progress bar that goes maybe a quarter of the way, and then in red
E: faile dto verify whole-file signature
E: Signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
If I keep selecting reinstall packages, it just repeats the above.
Hi all, I tried rooting my MT4G with the gfree method, after I rebooted i saw that S=off so i went into HBoot and Rebooted, The screen goes berserk and ends up on Android Recovery, I figured I'd just apply the stock recovery, PD15IMG.zip i renamed it to update.zip but I get, E: signature verification failed Installation Aborted. :/ i tried a few files. Also can't open / cache/ recovery.
Update*
Figured out how to fix it incase anyone was having the same problem, you need a fake flash recovery image, however i cannot seem to find a download for it since Clockword Mod Recovery is now on the market, please if anyone know where I can download ClockWork Mod Recover as a zip file still post.
Got that same problem.
But when I'm trying this, it doesn't install successfully and says: "Signature verification failed, installation aborted."
Hey if your still on this, I just fixed it today!! Download PD15IMG.zip, put it on SD card - hold power and down then hit HBoot, let it run and BOOM! your done.
No matter which type of ROM i try to install, i keep getting this same error message. Mt Atrix is rooted with Superuser and ROM Manager Premium, the steps that ive taken are:
1. Downloaded Alien, CM7, Homebase4
2. ROM Manger, boot from SD, checked all boxes, phone reboots into CWR
3. Pressed up/down volume buttons to boot from SD
4. Booting from SD - Failed - E:signature verification failed
Any suggestions?
Im pretty new that this and for some reason the screen only works in landscape mode, the other way it would be staticy
have u try to copy downloaded ROM to Internal Storage? then reboot to CWM and install zip from sdcard>choose directory..
Yes ive tried both ways SD and Internal storage
should be an option to toggle signature verification just after install zip from sd.some recovery doesnt have it if thats the case use rom manager to install latest
Theres actually nones, theres three options: backup, wipe data, and wipe dalvik
heres a dumb question.
have you unlocked your bootloader yet and flashed recovery?
Yes, ive unlocked bootloader and reflashed recovery also, but every time i try to install a rom it says:
Install/sdcard
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:Signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I'm getting the same Verification Failed - How do I fix this?

Boot from sd? Maybe i dont understand what you are trying to say but i have never used a "boot from sd" to install a ROM. Do you simply mean "install zip from sd"? Because I can relate to that. But not boot from sd, never heard of that function.
I flash clockworkmod recovery and then choose Atrix. When I try to boot into Clockworkmod recovery, I get an error message "Failed to boot 2" and don't receive the boot menu.
When manually entering into recovery is when I receive the verification error.
Regarding the "Install from sdcard", it is an option in Clockworkmod.
I am rooted, copied beta.zip to the SD card, and installed ran Clockworkmod.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong or why I'm getting the failed to boot 2 error?

Hi everybody,
I've got an error when trying to flash my legend, or even enter to the recovery.
Here you got my specifications, in order to give you an idea:
S-off
HBOOT-1.00.0000
RADIO 7.13.35.05
I have an OTA 2.2 update, from Vodafone
I've rooted the device with "unlock root" some weeks ago.
ROM MAnager 5.0.0.6 with successfully flashed ClockworkMod Recovery: 5.0.2.0
The problems:
When I try to boot into recovery (for example, when in ROM MAnager I try to backup my ROM, or install a ROM from SD card), I get this message:
" E:can't open cache/recovery/command "
Then appear 4 options (blue colour): reboot / apply sdcard: update.zip / wipe data factory reset / wipe cachee partition. The 2 wipes work OK, the reboot also, but when I select "apply sdcard: update.zip" I get next message:
" Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted. "
When I try to open bootloader, I get this message (it appears but disappears 1 second later):
" SD checking
Loading legediag.zip
No image
Loading legediag.nbh
No image or wrong image
SD checking
Loading legediag.zip
No image
Loading legediag.nbh
No image or wrong image "
I get also an error message in ROM Manager when I do "Fixing Permissions". First I got a Superuser window "SuperManager has been granted Superuser permissions" but then a ROM MAnager window "An error occured while attemting to run privileged commans!".
I've tryed uninstalling and reinstalling ROM Manager, Factory reset, everything, except Wipe Dalvic (not sure about what it does).
I'm not sure what's not working. Is it the recovery or ClockworkMod ?? Is the HBOOT-1.00.0000 the problem ? Is a disfunction of the SD Card (i've not tryed another card...).
Not sure if it could be associated to the same problem but now when I plug the phone to the PC the phone don't ask me if I want only charging mode or USB drive, even if I fix the behaviour (ask always or USB drive default). Not sure if it's related or not.
So, I'm a bit lost. Anyone has any idea ??
Hi, I only having s-on, I can't flash custom recovery, so have never seen how it really works, but what your describing is your stock recovery hasn't hasn't been replaced with custom recovery (clockwork mod recovery) and is still looking for update.zip in the root folder of your SD card.
Maybe look for an update.zip in the xda forums and put it in the root folder and see if that helps.
Found this for you

Hi escombralls,
i think, you are the first who used the "unlock root"-tool wihtout boot-problems after that.
Maybe, this tool nevertheless did not work correct. All other legend users had no success with this tool.
You should use a guide from this forum for rooting ...
if you are in the system recovery and the top part say...
Android system recovery <3e>
you cant use the fake flash...
you can find guides where everyone uses with no problem to properly root your legend from the forum.
than you'll notice after the process (downgrade to 2.1 step) when you go to recovery you'll notice the top part of this bunch of blue words say...
Android system recovery <2e>
than you can use the fake flash...
head here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969076
for the fake flash and follow Blay0's simple rename copy instrutions...
with this fake flash (CWM) you can start flashing other rom and also partition your card (remember to backup important stuff before you do anything)...
good luck
OK, thanks for your inputs.
First of all I will try with another update.zip file.
If the problem persists, I will follow one of the guides for rooting...
I will keep you informed.
