I'm using an HD2 with 3.14.707.3 ROM. I can copy text from a document file on my storage card, but when I try to paste it in a new email message body, the paste option is greyed out.
Just for info, I composed a message on Gmail in the phone's web browser and I could paste the copied text just fine. However, paste doesn't work (whether copied from txt or doc formats) when I compose new mail from the HD2's email client.
I could do this easily on my TyTN II.

Is it possible to send a contact via sms/BT as plain text without having to enter the "EDIT CONTACT" menu COPY the number and then PASTE it in the sms body? Is there an app for this?
I have friends with older devices that wouldn't recognize the the vcard format.
EDIT: I found an app called Send Contact that does the trick:

I installed it on the SD card. You can choose what details to send and the program creates a plain text message containing the detail picked. Does not reside in memory and can be launched only in cases when you need to send the contact as plain text.
Hey, i have just got an s2 and was wondering if theres anyway to export the texts from my i8910 to my s2. I haven't been able to find any way currently so any help would be great.

thanks for the suggestion, but yeah kies doesn't recognise the i8910 only PC Suite or whatever it's called does. And i have the messages exported in both .txt and .xml format but any programs i've found crash at trying to import the .xml. I might email the dev of the app I was using to import. As it would be a shame to loose all my texts (I have over 2000)

Just bumping this up again as just received my S2 yesterday having had the i8910 for 2 and a half years!
Been trying for hours to try and transfer the SMS from the i8910 to the S2 but no luck at all despite using all the recommended software from all the forums around the net!! I use the firmware where you can have the phoneID as a Nokia N8, 5800 or a Sony Vivaz so not sure if anyone has managed to use other backup software for their i8910 to get the SMS transferred to the S2??!?
Does anyone have an idea if the i8910 SMS messages can be transferred to the S2?

Yeah I had the same problem as you and spent ages trying loads of different methods. The only one that worked for me in the end was the SPB Migration Tool which you get from the android market store. it is not free however. After you have done that you have to download the symbian app and back everything up to their server, then you have to redownload it on your s2. Being a cheapskate I tried to transfer over the SMS messages for no cost!
The way I did it was to firstly use Samsung PC Studio 7 (you can also use Nokia Suite) to backup the i8910 phone - you get a .nbu file(s) using either program.
I then downloaded "NbuExplorer" which reads the .nbu files. Using NbuExplorer I then copied over the text messages to my laptop hard drive into different folders - Inbox, Sent and Drafts etc. You get loads of .vmg files for each individual SMS.
Then downloaded a program called "ABC Amber Nokia Converter". Used this program to convert the .vmg files into a .csv file which can be read by Microsoft Excel - you get a spreadsheet with various headings for an SMS message.
Then I downloaded a free Android app called "SMS to Text". I only had two texts on my Galaxy S2 - one inbox and one sent. Used this "SMS to Text" program to export a text file with these two SMS messages on them. The resulting .txt file I opened up in Notepad - this .txt file shows you what way the data is arranged by "SMS to Text" for it to import via a .txt file. Copied and pasted what was displayed in Notepad into a new Excel spreadsheet - this would now be the template to import my i8910 SMS messages.
With the .csv file I got from using ""ABC Amber Nokia Converter", I made sure this .csv file was in the exact way that the .txt file from "SMS to Text" had been displayed in Notepad. You've got to play around with the cell formatting options in Excel to get the right hh:mm:ss for the time of the SMS column etc.
When the Excel spreadsheet has been formatted in the right way, copy and paste what is in the cells to Notepad. Save the Notepad as a .txt file. Transfer this newly created .txt file to a microSD card or onto the Galaxy S2 phone and then use "SMS to Text" on your phone to import this newly created .txt file.
To say this was a long hard struggle would be an understatement!!
I have a suggestion for future reference.
Get SMS Backup+ (Market link).
It will backup all your SMS to a label/folder in your Gmail account, called SMS. You can do this manually or set it to do it automatically. Then, you can restore your messages back whenever you want, whether it be because you've flashed a new ROM or got a brand new phone. You'll have your SMS intact for as long as you have Android and that software is supported.
It's a great bit of software - one of the first things I install after a flash.

I've a question... I've a list of names and phone numbers in a text file in my computer... Is there any way I can send text messages to all of them from my Galaxy S2 by importing the file?
I don't want to add all that people to my Contacts, just want to send them a text message...

hmmm u can try to copy all phone numbers in a test file or mail, separated by an "," or ";" and then copy the content of file or mail directly into the message contact box...

It partially worked, as the maximum amount of recipients on the phone is 10 people... Can I add all phone numbers to a "group" but without adding each one as a separate contact?
I haven't used MMS much. I use Android (CM 7.1) and from what I can tell at least using built-in "Messaging" application one can only send pictures, sound files (AKA "ringtones"), videos and contacts.
Is there a way to send other file types? TXT or PDF for instance? I was able to select "Picture", then use third party file manager to select PDF file but then messaging application said something along "this is not a valid picture file" and rejected it.

Maybe just maybe, Don't quote me on this but here goes nothing, Maybe if before you send the file out to another person, You use a file manager and change the extension of the file to match a pictures like, .png or .jpeg and so on. Maybe it could work that way so long as it meets size requirements, Like i said, I have no idea if what i'm telling you will actually work or not, Just a shot in the dark here really lol

I am so annoyed by the standard SMS app, not to support highlighting and copying of just any text. Many times a week I need to copy a long number from a TXT message and paste into another form. Since none of the fancy TXT apps I tried so far supports highlighting and copying just in most other apps, I always need to copy the entire text, paste it into the notepad, and then go from there. Super annoying!!
Does someone knows a txt app, simple and basic, which supports just the standard highlight + copy like any other OS would do?
