so i have been hearing about the much anticipated "2.1 update 1" update that will enable pinch zoom on maps and browser applications.
i havent recieved it yet (im in canada so i figure the next few days will bring it to me) BUT i am debating what to do
xda peeps have already released a dual touch capable update, that is supposedly functional in all multitouch capable applications.
so i have a few options... wait for the official release and take it, or root and go the back door XDA way..
if i get the se official update will i be able to add on the xda dual touch action after? will they overlap each other?
I recommend this : install xda version, mess around, then when the official MT goes out, install that and then decide
Well there was a kernel you could flash to ad DT to any 2.1 fw but now the "official" DT generic fw is available for Flash Tool for x10a and x10i (check Development forum) so you may as well flash to that. It will be an unbranded version of the same update you're waiting for.

+1.
I did exactly that and imo the official SE update makes the screen a little smoother/more reactive so it feels more pleasant to use the 'official' mt firmware. But after you install the SE mt fw and install the latest rom compatible with that version of firmware, you won't lose or have overlap issues, the responsiveness/SE mt will still be there

don't you realize the two are exactly the same? The xda dual touch is JUST the dual touch kernel without flashing the entire firmware, otherwise no difference whatsoever...

but.. if they are the same then why is SE claiming that their updatge will only work with certain apps?

that is pretty standard, obviously they can't claim it would work for all apps that are not designed by them, otherwise if it didn't they would be in some sense liable for false info....
It is the same, ask any dev on here
and of course.... it doesn't work in mediascape!

Yeah the DT driver is the same but the SE fw brings touchscreen optimizations that make the DT better to use... I'm not saying SE dt is better than the modded dt, just saying that dt feels better with the latest SE firmware
erm...I saw on official website of sony ericsson and they say will release MT on Q1 2011!!!
This is the "multitouch" update.. Which actually is dual touch only.

So it has been announced today that the first kits will be released this Sunday Evening. In Nordic Countries. (Finland, Iceland Sweden etc.)
Considering we all suspected UK to be the first to obtain 2.1, a lot of people have flashed to Generic UK.
Is it still possible to flash to Nordic Generic? Only if needed
Thanks in advance.

Edit: could someone state what Generic Global firmware is and the name of the Nordic firmware. Would like to keep this thread as infromative as possible.

Yes, but how do you flash those two files. They have no extension
You have to use the SEUS method explained in the tutorial, dont think you can use the FLASH TOOL with these.
Dont forget that you need 50% battery
Thanks for the replies. I will do this when I go home and edit my first post so everyone can see who what were and when before Sunday, saves multiple threads and confusion

Will not work
Jumping to Nordic Firmware will not help you to get the latest ROM for 2.1 when it's releases. SEUS and OTA will read your device for hidden manufacturing data and only allow devices built for that market to receive the update. I described this several times in the general 2.1 coversation. SEUS will know if your device was built for T-Mo UK, AT&T, HK Generic, LAM Generic, etc... and force you to wait for your approved version. Sony Ericsson is firm in their commitment to complying with all legal and compliance standards of various countries and operators. Sorry but you'll just have to wait your turn.
Come on you TROLL, this is a complete nonsense ! Just keep your mouth shut if you've got no idea what u are talking about.

It's not nonsense. For one SEUS can read your IMEI number. Instant disapproval of firmware right there. There are also other hidden mechanisms in SEUS and OTA to overcome you spoofing IMEI or similar attacks.
SE has you beat because that's how they want it. This is not an open developer phone. This is a consumer phone. Even HTC has begun locking you out through hardware controls that eliminate ROOT and Custom FW. Android is now owned by the carriers and the manufacturers must comply. Appeal to Meizu if you want Developer devices in the future. They'll likely bend over for any type of sale at the moment.

Hi everyone,
I'm in canada and own an x10 with rogers.
Last week, I loaded the global fw on it and rooted it. So far everything works great.
Reading up on other posts, it seems like some ppl who updated prematurely regardless of their regions are planning and coming up with ways to update according to their regions once the official updates roll out.
The question I have is, why? My x10 works fine although it's not x10a anymore. So is it necessary to switch?
Hi man, I just finished to re-flash my X10a with the new Brazilian FW (X10a 2.1) i choose to match Phone Version(X10a) with FW Version(X10a)....reflash is so easy why not?
Btw with GlobalFW my bluetooth dosent work with the laptop (1.6 do) but now with the correct FW works great again (placebo effect? idont kown)
maybe beacuse people want to keep their warranty...

Hi can you post your build.prop? I'm trying to put my 2.1 back to Brazil but I must have missed something, cos PC Companion can't download the file. I might have made a mistake with the version numbers...
Rogers will release 2.1 tomorrow.
Or at least this is the rumor.

I Doubt that though,as they said the ".435" update is the "UXP Update" they promised long ago so,im not sure they will still do anything for the X10.

wasn't .435 the dualtouch update?
i think the interface update is rolling out soon, as some members reported that there were firmwares being certified at the end of January, which means that we'll get the update by March?

when SE released their version or 2.3.3 it was first sent to the carriers (Vodafone, rodgers, at&t etc) for them to tweak as they wanted. For example, google release 2.3.3, SE then tweak it by adding SE apps (Timescape etc) then it goes to vodafone who put vodafone apps onto it...
the extra .3 in your version maybe the version from your phone network provider, it has nothing to do with the google or SE version....
I have not lost hope that SE update my phone to the new version of android,
perhaps this hope die with my phone.

Not sure why Canadians have a different version since the US is the same as ROW (except JP). Oh well... Anyhow, expect updates to start being pushed from the 6th all the way to the 14th. After that, nothing will happen till January. But judging from the average time it seems you belong to the week 2 category (10-14th).

flashing a sony phone is different to that of samsung. You have to backup drm key(ta partition) before you even unlock your bootloader, because without that you camera will become useless. I cant give you links but I am sure if you look around you will find them. After unlocking your bootloader it is very simple. Just flash a kernel and the rom that you want to.
The application we use for flashing kernels for sony phones is flashtool. Just make sure you have the right kernels and files before flashing.
Goodluck.
My bootloader is unlocked already I just can't find a rom that will work for an xz1 can you give me a hint on what exactly to search. There is no support for the xz1 and as for backing up the drm key where is that found?

Yup there isn't really much or any support at all for Sony phones nowadays. I didn't find any good custom ROMs so sorry I wouldn't be the right person to advice you. And as for DRM keys. Once you unlock it. It's gone. I heard they have introduced some fixes or something. I don't know.
Need help
Can you give me guidance on how to with out braking my phone
As soon as you said you had 8.1 on your phone I knew this would be an interesting read.. Not sure how long ago you. unlocked your BL but once you did it you lost your DRM keys, though if you had read a bit you would have realized that.. there is a DRM fix for oreo (8.0), Pie is debatable as the camera appears to work without one but a few other thing appears to be missing related to video and sound enhancements without a DRM fix.. Now as far as flashing go it's time for you to do your homework as there are a few guidelines for using Flashtool and Newsflasher.. no disrespect here but hunt them down and read through them before you do anything else to your phone..
