Getting rid of the "standard input" bar, lets get it down :D - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi all.
I've been trying for some time now to get rid af this annoying bar. Eventually, i found out that i can't do it myself, and i need som help.
Objective: Removing the blue bar in the bottom of the screen, if you have changed your input method to another configuration than the roms.
Tries so far:
In system/usr/keyboard-config/layouts, i've tried to copy the settings from qwerty-no-dk.xml in to all other files (azerty.xlm, cyrillic.xml and so on). with this i managed to get every language selected to write the danish æåø, but when i deselect standard input, i stil get the original layout.
Tried to rename the Keyprint name: in the keyprint.xml - no effect.
Anyone wanna give it a try?
Regards, Heien.

The bar that has the time, date and signal?

I suposse that is the blue bar of the keyboard when opening the phisical keyboard. I also hates it

yep me too.. it is annoying when browsing it covers the lower part of the page

the .png is located in the SuquashiInputMethod.apk & can be modified to have other colors, i'll try to make it transparent, but give it not more than a shot into the blue, i have done it once on 1.6 & no alphablending enabled, so may just result in grey/black bar at bottom.
what u need:
go find Theme Reference Thread in X10 Dev Forum, read the part with .xml decompilation & recompilation & then find the damn .xml blamable for the icon to be shown.
simply delete image call & bar is gone
edit: digged into it further & decompiled suquashi
xml blamable found in /res/layout-land/querty-statusbar.XML
trying to get rid of it now
hmm seems like my decompiled files already contained failures, fc after managing to get it installed
hmm seems working..??
still not wanted effect..
how to define transluscent background of a relative view, if view needs 1) background & 2) background is not shown only by changing backgroundimage to transluscent
seems also to be on same lvl as "real" screen content..

remove SuquashiInputMethod.apk
I don't use the se keyboard. I removed SuquashiInputMethod.apk.
I don't have that problem And Swype is wonderfull

Yeah the easiest way to get rid of it is to use a different keyboard application.
I'm Currently using Swiftkey..

when using different kb, do you have symbols dialog & the other features from hardware keyboard?

hmm
Numbers you can, Caps you can
no smilies,no ascented characters-from physical keyboard
Smiles and ascented character can be inputed from soft keyboard

I do not believe that we need to get rid of the bar by changing in the xml and image files, i believe that we somehow should be able to alter the default input somewhere (as we did to get out custom languages working) to support our native input method. When i recieved the phone from 3 (in denmark) the language bar was hidden, althrough my input was with danish characters, and this is the effect i'm trying to achieve.

I've been looking at the same issue, and is quite annoyed. I think you're right in your assumption with the xml files - apparently i can only find the apk unzippers not the decompilers (dont have computer). The keyboard asis should be capable of functioning in the way we are looking for - on my device when i run terminal emulator the keyboard essencially does what i want (though the cursor in the terminal doesn't show keyboard state - symbol/shifted), and have experinced other situations when this giant bar of blue death finally dissapeared

try this:
1) in your home folder in apktool/framework folder you will find 1.apk open it with 7 zip.
2) pull framework-res.apk file from /system/framework/ extract resources.arsc, replace it with one in 1.apk.
3) Now try decompiling/compiling.
PS: if may not find the apktool folder if you clean all projects, load the project try decompiling ( it will create the apktool folder in your home) now try decompiling again

i never had a bootloop with a modded framework. Tell me the procedure you did!
First I tried just copy/pasting the files from the minimal matte theme over to the respective folders inside framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk.
Then I made it an apk file, and copied it back over, it failed. So I tried unsuccessfully to resign it, and I couldn't get that to work. So I tried to make one up on this site:
http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/
But again it failed. I was told to resize all the image files to the correct sizes? Maybe that would make a difference? :S
Because the guide I was looking at was to make your entire ROM, and all I wanted to do is just resign the specific APK
I was watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWWojkrirek
I've been using this to resign apks...

Mate theme files are like drawable-MDPI and G3 is LDPI so you should try to find same images in MDPI (from mate theme) and in LDPI (from your apk u want to modify) and then overwrite them. It should work tho.

Rekooo can you check this out for me? It's the framework-res.apk that I created. I can't tell what's wrong with it..
Edit:: I think they're all the same image size.. Also, would having extra files be a bad thing? I can't figure out for the life of me what's wrong! :S
Holdon, that was really stupid of me... I fixed the APK because the last one I uploaded I realized the directories were all wrong. But this one still doesn't work.
Edit:: I'm guessing it's signed wrong? Or what could be the issue..
Edit:: Got phone to boot, but everything Force closes.. Omg is this ever the biggest pain in the butt ever???

No need to Sign. Just resize and replace icons in MDPI and LDPI folders in the framework. Open apk with 7zip and just replace both folders.

I'm trying I guess I'm mistakenly not resizing some of them properly.. :S I'll keep trying!!!
Edit:: Problem is that on Lestatious ROM the framework-res has weird 20x38 dimensions, and the minimal matte has 25x25 dimensions, it's hard to resize properly. I'm going to try a different base framework.

I'm taking a break for a bit. Then I'll try again in a bit so frustrating! Lol Should I only change the LDPI or should I modify the LDPI AND the MDPI?
Okay, I've been testing, and you don't even need to resize the images for the LDPI res folder. So I've currently modded the LDPI res folder successfully. I simply use this command to copy existing folders over:
Code:
cd %USERDIRECTORYtowhereyouwantthesourcefilestogo%
Code:
xcopy "C:\userdirectoryTOSOURCEFILES" /U
The /U paramter in windows command prompt makes sure that only files that EXIST in BOTH destination folders will be copied over. Thus eliminating adding extra files and possibly screwing up the framework-res.apk, which I think I was doing before.
I'm going to try modding twframework-res.apk and the MDPI folder and then we'll see how that goes!
Okay, i've successfully modded a lot of things now...
I've got a couple questions:
1. Where are the settings icons? Is it in twframework-res? And where?
2. Where are the dialer button icons? I want a transparent dialer...
3. Where are the contact icons (the default contact icons)
Thank you for ALL your help arunmcops
EDIT:: Okay, I found the settings icons in Settings.apk, I found the dialer button icons in DialerTabActivity.apk, and I haven't modded contacts yet.
Almost done though, I THINK
Finally, finished. Theme released here:

Hello, maybe this is the wrong thread but i seem to not be getting any help over at Q&A's... I'm porting a theme from the captivate forums and for some reason my dropdown notifications have a transparent background and the text is black as well for any popup window like when you long press the homescreen to get widgets, and wallpaper chooser, so i think i need to modify either the framework-res.apk or the twframework-res.apk but don't kno exactly what file to modify to either get the text to white or get a background on those things... if anyone would advice me i'd appreciate it... thanks
Also if anyone could guide me into modifying the services.jar to change the clock color i would also appreciate it...

you need to edit the .xml files.
for notification you need to edit statubar_expand.xml and files that has similar name to that xml. dont exactly remember what its called.
its in framework-res.apk/res/layout
the notification pulldown background is in
twframework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi

Well for the notification pulldown background ive got the one i wanted... what im referring to is when u have a notification, for instance you downloaded something from the market and u get successfully downloaded that one notification has no background it is set to transpare t and the letters are black so i can really read what it says...
anybody wishing to help?
If it is an image you need to edit to be non-black/transparent the file I think you're looking for is called "status_bar_item_background_normal.9.png"
Change that to a totally opposite color and see if that's it?
If you mean editing the color of the letters then I do not know what to edit in the .xml file.
Hope I helped!
How can I modify the XML files? 'cause when I extract them from apk file, all of them are protected, I can't read any codes. Can anyone show me how to fully unprotected them?
P/s: I always get this error "An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource..." whenever I open xml file with IE.

they must be decompiled with apk manager
additionally when you recompile make sure to check the log as there will be several images that will be renamed from. 9.png to png you must use the draw9patch program found in the tools folder of the android ask to 9patch these images otherwise your apks will not compile correctly. Im on my phone now so I can't provide the necessary video link how ever simply go on youtube and search how to use draw9patch there is a very good beginners explanation (2 part) of what a 9 patch is and how to use the 9 patch utility

it varies, they can be in any folder really, but generally speaking that is where you will find most of them. Just check the logs and you will know exactly where to find them and what they were named.

all i wanna do is change the slider image based on the CM7 pro v20 ROM
my reason is because the black shadow covers the incoming call number

[Q] neo V (.62 fw) problem with recompiled Home.apk

Hi.
Sorry, I wasn't sure if it should be in "Themes", so I posted in General.
I've got neo V with root made on .42 (with ZergRush) and .62 stock fw installed via OTA. I was trying to change the number of desktops in Home.apk. What I do, generally:
1. Decompile Home.apk
2. Edit "number_of_desktop_panes" in values/integers.xml
3. Edit values/styles.xml to avoid compilation error (as advised here).
4. Edit DesktopModelManager.smali (as adviced here), but there's slightly different code (different line number and variable (?) name).
5. Recompile, replace with /system/app/Home.apk
The replace process is 100% good, because restoring original Home.apk do not cause any problems.
I do it from adb. I made the /system/tmp/ dir and given it 777 chmod to do it faster (without /sdcard). I mount /system as R/W, push Home.apk to /system/tmp/, change chmod to 644, then replace /system/app/Home.apk with it. Sometimes I try "sync", sometimes not.
It works only with stock Home.apk.
The problem is with recompiled apps.
I tried:
- xdaAutoTool
- ApkMultiTool
- ApkTools (from here)
- ApkTools (from here)
I also tried signing the app and not signing it (as mentioned here).
I also tried installing another launcher (GO Launcher EX), changing it to default, then replacing Home.apk, then changing again.
I also (huh) tried recompiling the app without any changes (except the one in styles.xml, without it, compilation would not succeed).
I also (getting boring) tried skipping the .smali edit.
Nothing works. If I replace Home.apk without reboot, the Home button doesn't work (single press) and if I was on the desktop when replacing app - it becomes black, no dockbar, nothing.
If I reboot - the phone freezes on SE logo, fortunately I can access it with ADB - when I replace Home.apk with stock one, the phone boots in a couple of seconds without a reboot.
I've got Win7 Professional x64, the newet JRE and JDK for x64, tried newest and older apktool.jar, smali.jar and other files. ApkMultitool was working on the yesterday-updated Android SDK folder. And I have no idea, what am I doing wrong... Do you have any ideas?
EDIT:
- earlier I successfully replaced SystemUI.apk with the changed one (Ultrans v2b) - no problems here
- I've got locked BL and I didn't install any recovery

I had no idea, compile and decompile didn't report any errors so I assumed it should be OK.
As I never changed apk with dependencies, can you explain me two things?
1. Which files from /system/framework should I pull and where to place them before decompiling with ApkMultiTool?
2. Will files from framework be changed or are they only needed as resources and are left untouched?

Home.apk decompiled with dependencies from this file, then I changed it and compiled. Still the same thing.
Maybe the res file was wrong? Or should I sign it with ApkMultiTool?

You were right, thanks. I must have tried with the wrong file earlier, because I was quite sure I tried framework-res.apk - and I didn't. And yes, the app should be signed after build.
Now, the Home.apk is working with my changes, but only after this little "hack" from Chainfire.
But I've got another stupid problem - the only thing that doesn't work is the "Photos and Videos" widget... I think I'll give up...

Thanks, but in case of widgets I don't even know, where to start from. Why the hell only a couple of them doesn't work now? Photos and Videos, Music Player and Timescape Widget - I think that's all. I have no idea, where it came from :/
EDIT: OK, now I have an idea, but it scares me. As I can see, the only way to compile and run the .apk was to remove
Code:
android:sharedUserId="com.sonyericsson.home"
From AndroidManifest. Now, if I understand properly, the widget needs Home.apk to HAVE that ID? Because logcat says:
Code:
W/System.err( 3399): java.lang.SecurityException: Requesting code from com.sonyericsson.advancedwidget.photo (with uid 10004) to be run in process com.sonyericsson.home (with uid 10138)

I'm unsure what your trying to do but if you get the resources fileand any thing else you changed from the home apk that you made,

this should help with what you're saying your problem is

OMG, I did it
First of all - I didn't understand you at the first time, about resources and "new" .apk. Now I think I got it (not everything, but enough to get this to work).
The problem I found on my private PC (earlier I was using other PC) was the "Sorry thats not the dependee apk, try again" error when trying to decompile Home.apk with framework-res.apk. It didn't happen before, but I was so tired with all of that, I wanted to try the shortest way, so here's what I did:
1. Decompiled Home.apk without dependencies
2. Made some changes I wanted to make
3. Just compiled the app, answering "y" for question about system app, but without copying "additional files".
4. Replaced resources.arsc file inside original (stock) Home.apk with the one from just compiled unsignedHome.apk, installed and...
- working Home.apk - checked
- working widgets - checked
- happy me - checked!
Thanks!

[Q] cook my first rom framework-res error and some questions

hello
I test for a long android device but i did not more then try to root new devices and made a tutorial on how to root those device.
Now i want a step further and i read for a long time here and now i just started to cook my own custom rom.
I setup a cygwin kitchen and apktools for (de)compile my apks.
Set carliv custom recovery on my generic(chinese B9202) cellphone.
I decompiled my stock rom (mtk6589) and start to remove the install recovery sh and some unwanted apk's to start.
compiled it with cygwin and put it on my sd card
Reflasht the zip on recovery reboot and everything was good(apps removed).
2e part add some new apps to my rom.
Flashed back and some apps doe not working.
firefox.apk and terminal.apk are not working.
When is start the app is say x is stoppped.
Some other apps works perfect.
So now i go a step further and i edit the framework-res.apk.
but here it's go very bad.
When ik reboot is be stuck on the android boot logo.
I did not do a big change only change the default desktop wallpaper en the usb storage connect png.
i compiled the apk with apk tool and renamed the unsigned framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk .
put it back to my working folder in my kitchen and recoock the rom
cooking the new rom and flash it in recovery -->not working
I already did a adb push -->not working
change the permisions to rw-x-x with rootexplorer and the change it in recovery with aromafm -->not working
So first why did some apps give a error when but when i install the apps manual they working perfect.
Second how can i fix the framework-res error
copy the file with aromafm to
hope this is enough information for my first post and my firts cook experience.
Sorry if there are some bad spelling my native language is dutch
Kind regards
@rcbadboy
It happened due to signing issues.
I tell you safe steps.
***OPTIONAL***
Use Android Multitool v2
It has GUI and due to ease in operations you tend to reduce chance of mistake.
But do not use signing in Multitool. Follow my next instructions of signing.
***IMPORTANT***
First you need 7zip (for some unknown reason WinRAR doesn't work properly.
After you recompile
go to APK location====>Right click APK====>7zip====>open archive.
Do this with original apk also (the apk which you decompiled)
now you have two 7zip windows.
Drag folder named "META-INF" and manifest file from old apk to new apk. Click new apk 7zip window. Click yes button.
Then put the new apk in /system/framework/(here) and give permissions as rw-r--r-- (0644)
I would suggest you to use Aroma File Manager.
In Aroma File Manager give permissions like this
[V] [V] [ ]
[V] [ ] [ ]
[V] [ ] [ ] where V is tick mark.
Press Thanks if helped.

I am so sorry. This XDA mobile app force closed so many times, I was irritated & I forgot to write that. Now just FYI-
If you want to edit AndroidManifest. xml (for renaming app or something else) then first sign by multitool or apktool, then copy only META-INF.
Press Thanks if helped.

Not so spectaculair bit most of the apps i don't us are gone, some apps that i use are imported, change default lockscreen and desktopwallpaper and change the usb connection picture.
Now i need to find how i can edit the text on the lockscreen, the clock and date, change my icons because i want a bleu neon theme so i got allot to search for.
see att image it's a start but i have to start somewhere.
Maybe you can help me with this issue i have looking how i can change te default icons on my home screen and how i added some options lik enable unknown source etc by default
grts b,
ps how do i replay whitout the capcha????
@rcbadboy
I never tried anything with lock screen. I am expert in editing framework-res.apk, systemui.apk and framework.jar but never edited lockscreen date, time etc. So I cannot help you, Sorry dude.
But it seems to me (pure guess) that it is in framework.jar or framework-res. I will let you know if I get any information.
Speaking about icons, there are two ways-
1) Launcher icon overrides app icon.
e.g. if you use Holo Launcher and have gingerbread, then Launcher uses ICS Phone, messaging icon instead of original GB icon.
2) Change app icon-
You don't even need to decompile.
Just open apk in 7zip====>res====>drawable-Idpi or Mdpi====>search icon and replace with new icon with same name.
You need to use 2nd method because first one is limited to dpecific launcher only. Also if launcher is made by someone else, then you cannot modify and distribute that theme with launcher it as it will be kanging his work.

I think you have JellyBean. I have not used JellyBean (My phone is not even compatible to ICS),
But after a bit of searching I found this which can change that background. (Background of all apps like settings, messaging etc will change to new background.
1. Decompile the framework-res.apk
2. navigate to the res>layouts>styles.xml and with notepad++ locate and edit these lines:
change:
Code:

@color/background_dark

to this
Code:

@color/transparent

then change:
Code:

@drawable/screen_background_dark

to this one to use a png for the background:
Code:

@drawable/backgroundnew

3. Locate
and change this line:
Code:

@color/black

to this:
Code:

@color/transparent

then change:
Code:

@color/black

to this for the png image:
Code:

@drawable/backgroundnew

4. Use a 480x800 png , name it "backgroundnew" and place it in drawable-hdpi/Idpi folder.
5. Recompile the framework-res.apk and replace it with the old framework-res.apk in system/framework.

About changing that text-
The text is located in framework-res\res\values\string.xml
Find it and change it to whatever text you want.
