[Q] timescape safe to delete? still functional? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

in a few different posts some people say that after rooting a way to gain a supposedly huge amount of speed is to delete timescape
some people reply to this that their basic phone functions will go to garbage if they do
anybody wanna clarify / settle it?

I removed timescape, everythig work fine.

Timescape is useless.
Sent from my Darkstyle x10

If in doubt, freeze it with Titanium Backup. The biggest lag that I found was the Face Recognition Service. I've frozen that, and Timescape with no ill effects and a huge speed and battery booth.

[Q] how to maximize the working x10 other than JIT and delete some junk app?

my sony x10 too laggy when i use live wallpaper, does anyone knows about the optimize x10 with .apk? like one click lag fix on SGS ?
Usually it will lag until it caches everything, then with time it will only get better, JIT helps as well but some of who used it faced battery problems ( I was one of them ) having 7 hours of battery life, however with time I noticed a huge improvement as my X10i now can go more than 20 hours with live wallpaper ( beautiful weather live wallpaper ) and JIT.
you can un-install Timescape and all of its components as it improves your device performance a lot

you can always re-flash it to the original state and gain the warranty again
It's you choice in the end, but many people are doing that.
You can backup timescape before un-installing it, similar to what I did, so whenever I wanted it back all I have to do is restore it

Used freeze to Timescape, but haven't see a big difference
Use minfreemanager, what will force android to free up more memory(mine about 70MB always free).
It's like a task manager, but the droid's default one. Mine is a little smoother, what's really good
Search on the market, install, and open link what it shows for details

Actually you want Android to use as much RAM as possible. If you keep forcing it to free up RAM it will make things worse. Let the OS do its job people! This is not Windows!
can you video how to install JIT app? i have rooted my x10 with Z4root

Actually there are ppl around here with ~120MB free limit with no problem. As the app have presets I use those instead of set an insane limit. And Android itself is what wipe apps from RAM, so it's not like the Windoze
The Aggressive preset means ~65MB and this is still better than default ~28MB

Pretty newbie
You need to combine several stuff to make your phone much more efficient :
- Delete all apps you don't need : all useless keyboards, Face Recognition (big eater), MediaScape, TimeScape, Playnow, all useless widgets ... using Root Explorer
- Use autokiller in strict mode (example), it will free up ram
- You may use Setcpu to max performance when you need (remember it will drains you battery like black hole !!)
- Use startup auditor to block unwanted processes
- Use Android System Info to monitor running processes and kill memory/cpu eaters once you don't use them anymore
- Avoid use of widgets
where i can download root explorer? i cant find it in the market...
please give me video "how to install JIT"

"to do list" for new x10/android owner?

after being a long time iPhone user, as well as windows mobile(1st gen HTC Touch/Diamond) user, I am finally making the leap to the Android O/S, via the SE Xperia X10. I know it's not the most popular device for the XDA crowd, but I do like it's fit/finish as well as the 8mp camera which will double as a temprary replacement for my recently stolen Sony T99.
what brings me here though is my high hopes that the developers will soon crack the bootloader(whatever that means), and allow us to upgrade the ROMs to Android 2.2. until then, I intend to just use the SE 2.1 firmware, unless someone can suggest a similarly stable alternative.
the reason for my starting this thread is relatively simple: I'm looking for software and/or app suggestions, software modifications, and a general "who's who" of common apps and programs that I can utilize to get myself up and running with, as well as accustomed to, the Android O/S.
any and all suggestions are welcome, but I please ask that we keep it respectable.
thanks in advance
Too many to list. Just got to the Android market and see what you want to install in your phone...
well yeah i understand i need to go through the app market to find things i like, im looking here more for things i NEED
Many users have switched to, use, and are very happy with the following mods/ changes.
ADW or Launcher Pro Plus to replace the default launcher - Both great but I now prefer LPP
Handscent SMS (possible problem with battery drain if SMS's left unread, but really great app)
K-9 Mail (I used it for ages but have recently switched back to googlemail)
Root your phone to allow you to delete any standard apps you don't need (saves internal memory and if you get rid of some of the biggies like timescape, then it helps to speed up the phone too).. also means that you can enable JIT which will speed up your phone.
Vignette is a good camera app which will take better pics than the standard one, but is a bit slow in saving the images because the file compression is lighter and therefore the files are larger..
There's loads more, but these are a good start I think.
That should give you enough to be getting on with!
once rooted, get root explorer, remove timescape and all that goes with it. frees up tons of memory and huge performance boost.
enable JIT
remove the other bloatware (moxier, sync, pc companion, etc)
thanks for all the suggestions gang. if/when i do root it and remove the bloatware or install a custom ROM, i will still have the option of reverting back to the SE 2.1 update, correct?
just read the "what is rooting" and "what is JIT" threads i could find, im REALLY trying NOT to get flamed with "use the search bar n00b" comments lol
have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
i would reccommend to do this first, make a full backup then remove anything you want via titanium backup.if you dont fancy doing this then you can always use seus to get back to stock rom.
As for apps i would reccommend:
z4root
titanium backup
adfree android
poweramp
launcher pro plus/ADW
root explorer
terminal emulator
update:
installed global 2.1 ROM
installed ES File Explorer
installed Z4 root
installed Titanium Backup
..work in progress...

[Q] Suggested apps, widgets, etc

Yea, I could go through each and every post of every thread, bt instead of taking several days to do that, figure I will take the shortcut and get with you guys first.
I will be getting my Thunderbolt by Tuesday, and want to jump right into customizing (a little bit, no unlocking!), and downloading and installing the apps I need!
So my question to everyone, (coming from an Imagio), what apps do you recommend? What widgets? And what about different clocks and other things?
I notice there are some with text clocks and calendars, I would really like that. Is that something easy to install?
And what about modding so that I can throw alot of stuff on the SD card instead of stacking up my phones memory? Any suggestions there?
Same question regarding performance, there are several apps that run in the background, and I hear that they are not able to be shut off (except for what the XDA wiz kids have come up with) in order to save battery life. Is that correct? If so, can I shut them down or remove them?
What about skype, does it come with it installed or not?
Thats all I got for now, I am sure there will be more! So any advice and suggestions would be great.
You guys really helped make my Imagio last this long, looking forward to working with you guys on a brand new phone.

I agree with both of these as they will help you with your batt life a bit.
As for the text clock/calendar, that is also a must have for me (Minimalistic Text) all of these are easy to install just look for them in the market.
Beyond that, i don't do much more to my phone beside using Launcher Pro and the widgets that come with it.
Clock/Weather Widgets: Beautiful Widget or Fancy Widget
Calendar: Agenda Widget
Home screen replacement: ADW or LauncherPro (I prefer ADW)
SMS Replacement App: Handcent SMS
Clock replacement: Alarm Clock Plus*
Ringtone finder: Zedge
Wallpaper finder: Flikie
Email replacement app: K-9 Mail
Browser replacement: Miren Browser
File Browser Replacement: OI File Manager
Weather app: Weather Bug or The Weather Channel
Hope these help!

Install everything in your internal memory. It's MUCH faster than the SD Card. For media (MP3s, videos, etc.) you don't have much of an option unless you unlock it - those go on your SD Card. And even if you unlocked it, I'd still recommend you put them there.

Uninstall as much of the pre-installed software as you can that you won't use. That said, you'll be stuck with most of the bloat. However, it's not really a problem - it's pretty smooth and performs pretty well, stock.
Lastly, BEWARE of anybody who tells you to install a tool like Advanced Task Killer. This tool will NOT speed up your phone - it will just slow you down a bit (probably not enough for you to notice) but it will drain your battery even faster than normal. The battery life on this phone is bad enough - you don't need to make it worse!
For best results and maximum customizations, I suggest you root your phone, if not to load a custom-super-themed-decked-out ROM then at least to load a standard debloat-deodex ROM.

I must disagree, honestly. Stock Sense, while it is a bit bloated, it is by no means laggy. If somebody isn't comfortable with rooting, and doesn't have a pressing need to root, then I don't think they should root their phone. It adds risk, headaches, and concerns to make something, that is already fast, faster. If somebody should root their phone, it should be for more of a reason than, "well, it seems like a good thing to do".
[edit] Although, you are right. If you want "best results and maximum customizations", then yeah, rooting is required. But it didn't sound like that the OP wants. It sounds like the OP wants to know how to customize it well without rooting. That's my interpretation, and why I disagreed with you suggesting the the OP root and flash roms.
Just my $0.02 worth.

yea, its not that I don't want to, because I really would love to, but the wife was pissed that I unlocked my Imagio, and blames that on the problems I have had, so a deal was made, I take my kids upgrade, transfer to mine, and get the new Thunderbolt provided I DONT unlock, root, jailbreak, or do anything that allows me to customize it beyond what the original design allows.
Yea, fine, sounds fair. So what I am looking for is just those things that I can download and install that are 'authorized', so to speak, from Verizon and HTC.
Maybe when she upgrades she will want to see what can be done (she is due in a few months) and thats when I will have to 'show' her!
Thanks again guys for all your help, one more day!

[How to?] remove bravia engine from stock rom: Terrible SwiqiSettingsService

Hello,
I already put this in "Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" but I think it's a dev subject.
So:
I'm trying to make a slim ROM starting from stock 207, without BE, sound enhancement, etc.
Using Elixir (Wakelock does not shows everything) I discovered that this apk uses a lot of CPU, it's the champion.
Then I tried to disable all bravia stuff in settings and also in build.prop (swiqi2.enable=false): no effect.
I also deleted /etc/be*. But this process continues to eat cpu all the time, when you watch a video or simply scrowls a list. It seems that it filters the whole video flow.
Last step: freezing SwiqiSettingsService. In this case, video playing becomes very very laggy (totaly unusable, using stock player or Mx gives the same result), BUT the phone becomes so much responsive.
If someone knows how to totaly wipe bravia/swiqi stuff from the phone (or want to investigate that) ... it will be a great improvment for those who don't care about this kind of "enhancement".
Thanks.
Some news:
Uninstalling GoogleBackupTransport.apk, you can also uninstall SwiqiSettingsService.apk with no lags in video playing (also need to disable the things in 1st post).
I have no idea for an explication ... but it works fine until now ...
This is more for the Cross-Development section
~~ Regards

Until now I didn't see any side effect, but it can make time to discover one...
I'll post my system/app list later.
An other problem is that there are dozens of posts on xda talking about system apps safe to remove with bad informations in them.
I never found a clean list wich explains each funcionalities of each system app, and more important their dependencies between them.
You can make a test using "system app remover" for example: turn off all enhancement in settings, then remove GoogleBackupTransport and Swiqi. If you have troubles you can put them back using SystemAppRemover.
Next step for me is to evaluate if Stamina is important in the way I use my phone: basically I like to use functionalities manually. If I want to sync I enable sync, if I want to use data connection I turn it on and then off, etc...
Stamina is certainly usefull for who let the phone connected all the time, but in this case I don't know.
this is what i am looking for long time. some one clarify it more?????
@sambastrakan
you made this thread when super vivid mode from z3 was not introduced yet
I had tried freezing or uninstalling swiqisettingsservice and video playback will lag :crying: until BE libs are completely removed via android tweaker 2
but since super vivid mode is ported, freezing or uninstalling swiqisettingsservice still give me enchanted color and without lag
i've tried both in movies & mx player
btw, did you notice gaming performance & ram improvement after removing such features?

Thanks for your advice. But I'm running CM11 for a few months now: no more problem!
From what I remember I had about 480Mb free RAM with my "slim" 207 fw. But I remember too that in an other attempt (clean install then uninstalling apps) the lags were back ... So GoogleBackupTransport was not the guilty .... Actually I don't know how and why I had no lags in a previous slim rom version (without swiqi). Total mystery ! And no more mystery with CM11 from MrSteve555.
Draw lines settings.apk because not much point getting the apk and remove the lines from build.prop if there still lines the wild in their configurations.
Thank you :good:

[Q] Sony Xperia ST15i tweaks

Hi there,
I am a long time happy user of sony xperia mini st15i, it is perfect for me, i dont want to even think of moving to newer and bigger phone.
I do however want to do some tweaks on it since my phone is no longer under guarantee soo i can root it without fear of losing guarantee. I would like to make my phone snappier. Mainly what i do on my phone is calls, sms, taking pictures and videos. Those last two things concern me most. I would like camera to open faster. A lot faster. Sometimes there is a special moment i would like to take photo of and waiting few seconds for camera to open is usualy to long. Browsing photos is also slower then it was .. and opening some simple apps like light, etc. is slower then it used to be. Apart from what i said i want to keep 2 apps that are very important to me. First is call recorder: i set up a program to record all my calls automaticly and a program that saves all my sms-es once per hour. Apart from speed and battery improvement it would also be great to improve the camera. I take a lot of images and videos and any improvement ( such as better image quality, faster program opening, etc. ) would be great. I wonder if anyone tested the camera on this phone and compared different settings. There are lots of settings but i really dont know which are better then others.
ps: would this tweaks help me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881401
Anyway point me in the right direction, maybe where to start with the rooting process, what to install, etc.
Thank you in advance
