How Do I backup? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a xperia x10a with 2.1 with latest BB+FW installed.
JIT+xRecovery installed.
I Have few questions.
1) I would like to really try out 2.2 on my x10 but I was wondering, How the backup and restore thing works on xrecovery. I want to get back to 2.1 if I want to use video recording.
2) If I go to 2.2 will I loose any data?
3) How do I backup my applications? (Titanium?) I can fairly use myphone for all my backups but how to do applications and settings since I have tons of customizations on my phone right now
4) I want to try a new theme for my 2.1 but I don't know how to restore back if something goes wrong / I want to get back to default theme. How can I do that? (I thought xrecovery would restore entire image..I.e I'm guessing I'd loose all my recent calls and stuff?)
Please clear my doubts. Thanks for your time in advance.

1) backup with xRecovery
2) Yes.
3) use Titanium
4) ThemeMaking, if something goes wrong reflash

[Q] xrecovery

hey im new to this forum quick question to ask sorry if its been asked before.
if i install a new rom on my x10 (same as the old one but just altered) does it delete all my texts ? if so how do i get them back when the rom is installed ?
and i made a backup of the phone through xrecovery does that backup texts also ?
thanks
IF you make a backup with xrecovery, when/if you restore the backup, it will be EXACTLY like it was when you made the backup, right down to the text messages you had... It is a total mirror image.
In order to keep them when flashing new roms, you can use titanium backup and backup/restore the app + data, or when you flash a new rom you can restore just the data partition from a previous rom in xrecovery as well...
thankyou !

[Q] Upgrading to EB01, need help

currently im using DJ05 and have the super red evolution theme from nijitsu.
I've been having a few issues lately, one being that swype no longer works and for the life of me i can't get the new beta installed. I've tried wiping the old swype data with tibu and then deleted it, and used root explorer to remove any traces of SWYPE left that were found, i do a reboot and i still can't install the swype beta. it just goes to install and says DID NOT INSTALL.
i figured i might as well upgrade to EB01 now and hopefully the issue will be resolved after upgrading.
questions are:
i have the green version of CWM, do i NEED the red version to upgrade? if so, where can i find a working link for that version? i've tried searching all over this board and they all point back to the link that is down.
2) do i HAVE to do a complete battery wipe? i have tons of apps and stuff i want to keep. Can i use tibu to completely back those up, so after i wipe clean and install the new rom, i can just restore those apps and keep all the settings and saved games?
Sorry, these are pretty noobish questions. Thanks for all the help!
Some help
I'm still kinda new to the process, but...
Here's Adrenylyne's CWM Red. Dunno if you need it to flash EB01

As far as the back-up goes you should be able to run a Nandroid back-up from Recovery boot. That combined with an app back-up with your app-manager should cover everything.
Higher-ups plz correct nething I got wrong...kthnxbai
okay, will i need the pro version of titanium backup? or will the free version work?
i just want to make sure all my contacts are backed up, my text messages, and all my apps i downloaded and paid for.. i have the free version of titanium backup, and i hit BACKUP on all of those. I just want to make sure once i wipe everything and install fresh, i can download titanium backup and just restore them with the free version
Run backup assistant for contacts, or if you have them saved via google... not sure about the titanium thing, never used it. Easiest way to get to eb01 is the odin all in one package, does all the wiping for you and there are several versions to choose from. Check development section on droidforums

Upgrading from 3.4 Cyanogen to 3.5- How restore applications & settings?

Ive found it pretty annoying that when updating cyanogen, I would have to install each and every one application and going trough all the settings and moving all the applications to SD card again very daunting.
Is there a way so that, if the next upgrade comes out, I can just only restore applications and settings on the new rom using xrecovery or titanium?
I was going thruogh xrecovery, and therer was one called advanced restore, and allows me to choose restore data, restore cache, restore ext... is this the one and which one?
Yah sure, make a full recovery with Xrecovery, and the install new rom , when rom install ends, make full wipe and battery status wipe, then make advanced restore, Data and cache only, and you're gonna have all your apps back :O thats how i make
k will test and see, thanks =)
DO NOT back up and simply restore when u get a new rom, i backed up my 2.1 with xrecovery then installed new rom and restored from xrec and bricked my phone, i reflashed and now im stuck on the previous kernel due to the fact that i now cant update, i didnt use the advanced restore cache and data restore, guessing it should work
Obiously, if you try making a backup from Eclair and then restore on Froyo, you're gonna have a bricked device, cuz eclair cache and data it's different than on CM6 or CM7, but he's talking about doing this with 3.4 CM6, to 3.5CM6, so it's totally safe, and I DO IT every time I update my ROM.
Correct me if im wrong about 2.1 to 2.2 or 2.3, but do what i say it's safe
EDIT: Did you make a full restore? lol men , and respect to update to the new kernel, you do it copying build.prop to /system with RootExplorer, go to this thread

use Titanium backup?

[Q] Nandroid restore fails 2.2

Hi all,
So, I gave this HTC Aria to my girlfriend with Liberated 2.1 installed. She ran into some troubles, why I asked her to install the new liberated 2.2 version from this forum. I backed up the phone with nandroid. I told her how to wipe and install the new software over the phone.
Now she started it and all the apps, texts and documents are gone.
What can I do to get it back on an easy way? Restoring only the DATA-part of the backup from nandroid didn't work. Will a full restore get her back to 2.1 or will it implement here data and apps into 2.2?
Is reinstalling the 2.1 ROM and restoring afterwards a possibility to get her back to status quo?
Thanks so much in advance!
restore her backup which will take her back to 2.1 with all her data. Go to app market and download my backup root. Pick what you want to back up. Then delete cache and data and install 2.2. Go download my backup root and click restore. Now restore your data and most of the data will be there after the phone reboot besides the android settings, sometimes clock alarms, and bookmarks.
Signatures are fancy.
Wow, sounds great!
Thank you very much!!!
No problem

Ok, problem solved, which should've been asked in the Q&A thread by the way.

is it safe to remove Backup & Restore App?

as the topic says,
if not, can anyone upload that app?
It won't affect anything else on your phone, so if you don't use it just remove it, you can always make a full backup with recovery and restore the data from there.
There is an app called appbackup i use it all the time u js backup all ur apps to ur sdcard and then after installing a new rom u cn restore.
No,this is not a System-depending application. This is just used to backup apps and contacts (on Sony Ericsson X10 line phones) to backup your data for one of the following reasons :
- Your firmware may be affected by something and you'll need to restore the contacts/sms/apps after the restoration
- You may have 2.0.5.A.0.24 firmware and you need to upgrade to 2.1.1.A.0.6.If you don't perform a backup you will lose every single data/setting that is stored on the phone's memory
- Your little brother accidentially pressed Restore to Factory defaults, without backup, now you won't be able to call that new girl Mary because you don't have her number! What you're gonna do then ?
OK,you can choose alternative backup applications but the sony ericsson one is here : Backup and restore for Eclair or the modded one to work for Froyo (and Gingerbread I think) Modded Backup & Restore, tutorial to install + download
Hope I helped,and I think I deserve a "Thanks",so...
SMASH THAT THANKS BUTTON
thanks
