I am currently 1.6.0 and I love it. the only problem I have is that a couple of games won't install any more. I tried 1.6.1 but it went nuts with constant FC. But I didn't do a factory reset on it before I install it. I read on a couple of forums that the rom does work better if you do this. It did for me too. So I wonder if I should try a higher streakdroid rom for better result.
My question is; what is the best streakdroid rom? Is the highest one the best one or the more experimental one?
Each one brings new fixes and sometimes new issues. I'm using 1.7.0 and love it. I did a refash to stock 309 then upgraded to 318 then 1.7.0 before in did any configuration. Zero issues for me I'm not using the perfmod btw
Dell Streak powered by StreakDroid 1.7.0
I upgraded from the stock 1.6 to Steve's 1.6.0 rom a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. It's such a massive improvement that it was worth it to spend a few days reading about it first and risk bricking my phone to install it.
Since then, however, I try to keep up to date with the newer versions and there are so many people with issues like the boot loops, instability, FCs, lost wifi, etc. that I keep asking myself if it's worth it to upgrade. I don't want to spend hours reinstalling everything as well. This is a 400$ device after all, and thechnically it's not under warranty anymore so is the reward really worth the potential risks?
Can anybody share their impressions with 1.6.1 and 1.7.0 versus 1.6.0?
Thanks Archeob, you worded it better than my what I was trying to say. I love 1.6 too. I tried the 1.6.1 but it went crazy with FC's. But maybe again because I didn't do the factory reset.
So a a list of con's and pro's per rom would be great if available?

why not just do a nandroid backup, and then flash the roms for yourself?
I did that thanks. I am now on 1.7 and some of the apps that didn't on 1.6.0 do now. Till now I am pretty happy with the 1.7
went to 1.6.0 from stock white streak......happy with it....and have not seen a reason to upgrade to newer rom yet.....im waiting for front facing video chat to work....when theres a working rom for that, ill be upgrading to it.

What do you mean work? Work through camera app? Work with fring? The ffc works fine in 1.7.0 its apps like fringe that need to update to work with it. Btw ooVoo works fine with the ffc.
Dell Streak powered by StreakDroid 1.7.0
My ffc also didn't on 1.6.0. Not even with oovoo. It does work on 1.7 for me. But I didn't figured yet how to get the ffc to work with Tango. Seems that this is working for some people.

I've tried a bunch of different roms and so far, for me at least it's always missing the mark. I don't change roms whenever a new one is available, sometimes I'll wait a bit and I like to try a sampling of as many as possible but it always ends up being either:
#1 the mms never working. either i get "service is not available at this time" (mms only) or after doing the fixes listed it'll stay "sending" then the next day a friend will tell me he's pissed cause the test pic i sent him at 8pm arrived at 4am
#2 flash never working ever
#3 if it's 2.1 then the apps2sd working, maybe,sometimes
tonight i'm trying my 3rd rom. the previous one i had before i figured I'd try some new ones had the mms issue, also when you shut it off it would reboot instead & you'd have to to it again, and maybe again
i'm thinking maybe we are asking too much from this phone ? i'm not looking for perfection but stuff like tethering i could care less about, being able to send my daughter a photo i do care about, and flash would be nice
is there anyone that can recommend a rom, can be 2.1 or 2.2 i don't care, but one that works on the eris that has no mms issue, has flash and is stable ?
thanks
tazz froyo and kaos froyo work awesome. have for a few months now. actually all the 2.2 non-sense ROMs work really good. The sense ones just got started so they will be good soon. The 2.2 sense ones actually have flash 10.1 not flash lite like stock Sense 2.1
froshedyo works good too
Sounds like xtrSENSE may be a good ROM for you... It is very close to stock but has a number of performance improvements that you can CHOSE to turn on only if you want to...
Happy hunting and good luck

Try xtrRcmix
if you want to try a froyo rom i suggest you try Floyo

I've tried both and it's a tossup. xtrSense is nice and stable though and I'd recommend that over xtrRCmix just for stability reasons. That said the RC isn't bad but it feels a tad slower.
+1 on xtrSense ... probably the very best ROM for the ERIS!!!
xtrSense is fast and stable...better than any Froyo ROM I have tried so far
+1 on xtrSense, although the xtrRCMix seems to get me better battery life
Which roms and versions have you tried already? CELB and FroShedYo work great, minus flash. The other CM/ASOP 2.2'S get rave reviews too.
I haven't used a 2.1 in about 4 months so I can't say, but there's alot to choose from.
Honestly, my eris is my "main" computer other than my work machine. I have pretty much foresaken my home desktop, laptop and netbook. I'll give up Android phone when they come out with neural implants with retnal projection; thx surround sound pinging my tympanic membrane from the inside........ or whatever's free with a 2yr contract. Whichever comes first
Sent from my CELB Froyo Eris
yes man, try celb froyo
Sent from my HTC Incredible
+1 for CELB and Tazz
Like you I too have tried almost every ROM for the Eris.. and if I had to choose today the BEST ROM to date it would be the ROM I am currently using: "xtrSense"!
I am keeping an eye on xtrRCmix and TenzoSense and am looking forward to both becoming more stable in the weeks to come.
thanks for all the info
I settled on xtrSENSE. I had actually had a previous version months ago. At that time (at least for me) any rom with 2.2 was problematic. After some time passed I tried a few 2.2's and they seemed better but then things would always go sideways.
One time i didn't notice for a week that no one was getting any pic messages I sent. Another time the apps on the sd was quirky as it seemed to be loading more on the phone storage then it should and then the performance would grind to a halt.
And like I mentioned I never had one where flash worked for me.
I appreciate all the work people do to make these but i just want a few basic things that are selling points to work.
So of the SENSE ones I tried this time around the first was xtrTenzoRCMix1.6 and that seemed pretty good till the next morning the screen still said "phone is shutting down" so i went to xtrSENSE4.6 which i'm happy with.
in the past I'd done vanilla tazz 15, froShedYo, kaosfroys,sense-able etc as well as a boatload of others that i didn't same the original .zips to

both of these are awesome. I generally don't like the issues that come with 2.2 roms, but I love floyo.
OK so I'm looking to install a rom on a new GTab. I'm reading that there are new Honeycomb clones coming soon but I would much rather install a ROM that has been proven. My daughter is heading off to college again and I don't want her to be stuck with issues she won't understand. That being said which of the 2.3 versions are best. Please be understanding of my concern and don't arbitrarily say "this ones the best because this gut makes it". I truly need a stable rom.
Thanks in advance.
I'm not a fan of CM7 because of the lack of hardware accelerated drivers, but it seems to have been fairly stable.
I'm debating other roms at the moment (possibly froyo for more hardware support), but I'm thinking I might end up coming back to CM7 because my kids and wife use it and its been pretty rock solid.
Otherwise, heard good things about Vegan Gingerbread Edition.
Are you talking about all roms (ie 1.1 & 1.2)?
Thanks guys,

This is interesting. I have tried CM7 versions on a couple phones in the past and was never really impressed. I find CM7 forum folks short at times with fellow XDAers whom might not understand things as well as they do. You also make me wonder and I will check when done here but CM7 isn't a Froyo nor GB based yet??? Hmmm

I would imagine 1.1 due to it's longevity.
CM7 is a Gingerbread based ROM. Its true, I had to leave XDA to get support for it. But I initially did it because it was compatible with netflix.
Hey tomween1, Well I've had my tab on several roms and most have been pretty good but it dpends on how much "tweaking" you do:
for me (& ppls exp would differ dpending on what tweaks they have done):
I've found Vegan GingerEdition as SOLID AS A ROCK! (followed MobileTechVideos directions /vid--I call this out as Josh starts on 1.1-2XXX then OTA upgrade to 1.1-3XXX) which gets you to great place to spilt to either 1.2 or stay on 1.1. I've found 1.1 ROMS most stable.
I've used CM7 Nightly (1.2 ROM)- super fast speeds, got NETFLIX & Hulu to run perfectly, but it was unstable. I would reboot and all widets would "Problem loading..), usb to PC didnt work so had to place in CWM and mount usb or adb...sounds like you kid isnt into the geeky stuff
So right now gtab is on CM7 7.0.3 Stable (build is from May 2011), usb to pc works, got netflix & hulu running perfectly (after setting the CPU 1.5Ghx min/max on Perfomnance in CyanogenMod settings), seems steady been about a week and running GOF2 (game) for hours and doig emails, twitter etc. no problems.
Anyway good luck.

Hi
I have a brand new Motorola Defy on T-Mobile UK still running 2.1. It is red lens. There is still no official update for it.
Whilst I am quite geeky, I prefer my phone to just work. So once I have upgraded it I don't plan to do so again for another 12-18 months unless there is a really good reason to update before hand.
So I am looking for a stable update, that will still be compatible with new apps in 12-18 months time. I want the updates for the following reasons: speed, battery life, as few bugs as possible, stability, any camera improvements and 720p video recording.
Yes it is a long list I figure an Android 2.3 is probably better than a 2.2 for future proofing. Last night I spent a few hour reading the wiki and information about lots of roms.
I am not looking for help in how to do anything as there are quite a lot of info on the threads about it. I would just like to know which is the best rom/s to install now, from experienced users.
Thanks Alex
The official update for T-Mobile UK android 2.2 (froyo) has been out for a couple of weeks now - it's on the Motorola Software Update site ready for download. There's also the retail version there that would have no operator logo etc.
I'm using CM7 on my UK Defy (green lens on mine as it's an early one) & find it be the best ROM I've used so far - much better than the stock eclair it came with & better than the froyo ROMS I flashed (used 2 leaked UK 2.2 & a Nordic 2.2).
I'd recommend CM7 as it's very stable for me - no random reboots or freezing like would happen from time to time on 2.1 & 2.2 when I had those.
CM7 is still in development but it's working fine for me but if started using it you may need to flash an upgrade every so often but this was quite easy for me & only took a few minutes.
MIUI is also out for the Defy - haven't used it myself so can't comment but it seems popular.
Thanks for the info.
Can anyone tell me how I can get this posted in the General section?
I have no idea how it got into the Themes and Apps section.
It might be on the motorola website but over an hour later I cannot get the installer to recognise an internet connection, so I will give up on this. CM7 doesn't yes support 720p recording so I will try something different.
if you want a customisable and pure speed ROM, it's CM7, but if you dont plan to tinker a lot, then MIUI is pretty good as it's already a pretty nice looking ROM, with a lot of iOS influence
Im so good at listening to advice I ignored it all and tried to install 2.3.4 from forum.xda-developers com/showthread.php?t=1135901.
Somehow I not get a flashing red moto logo, system restore and bootloader do nothing and the phone does not show up on my computer. At a bit of a loss what to do now!
Remove battery, and put it back.. While starting keep the vol up button pressed. It ll take u to moto bootloader state. Connect to pc with usb. Use rsdlite software to detect it.. Then flash with any full sbf of ur choice to give back life to ur defy...
Thanks for the info. It sounds so simple. Sadly after hours of trying this morning I still can't get the phone to turn on.
First of all: check if your phone has a green or red lens (the answer is here). If your phone has a green lens, sorry, but nothing can be done for it to record 720p videos (hardware limitation). But, if your Defy is brand-new, you'll probably get the red lensed one, because green lensed Defy are old and, AFAIK, not selling anymore.
If you want speed and stability, with 720p recording, I recommend you to install Barebones Froyo with Hancock's 720p mod (mod available here). For better compatibility, ROMs based on the leaked GBs are the best option, and there is also a patch for it to be able to record in 720p (even though I wasn't able to get this one working on my phone - but many people did and are satisfied with it).
For speed + stability + compatibility, CM7 is the one to go for. But it doesn't have 720p enabled yet (some nightlies do, but they're not stable, and even on these nightlies, 720p is not working for everyone).
MiUI is also stable - and beautiful - but not as fast as CM7. For CM7's speed with the looks of MiUI, check here for the Meizu theme.
First thing first... Flash back your phone with full sbf. I would recommend start flashing froyo 2.2.2 since you're from 2.1.
I assume your Defy is red lens as it is newly bought right.. Flash gingerbread 2.3.4 and patch it the 720p followed with installing lgcamera for video recorder. Lastly patch it multitouch to have more than 2 fingers touch. You can find these all in the developer section. Above poster already guided you how to go into bootloader, clean cache and installing rsdlite drivers. Take one step slowly...

Hmm... my Defy is a May 2011 model (taken from the serial number) brand new UK retail version from Amazon. Updated to 2.2.2 from the Moto site. Lens is clearly Green...
CM7, out of the question.
CM7... da best u can hav!
CM7 is really stable for defy!
Stock 2.2 GB rooted and overclocked is really nice.
Current custom roms break too much at the moment for me.
I need an infrastructure hot spot, stable wifi, gps that does not need agps to lock and working fm receiver.
I fancy a go with CM7 or miui, but I am going to wait a while for all the fixes to roll in. The devs need people to test and use these roms, but with over 2 million hits i think they have enough already
Ask yourself if you really need a custom rom yet?
I would recommend either a stock froyo rom or adlxmod froyo, as they are stable and won't require any real upkeep. Adlxmod can be updated directly from the phone itself and is hassle free.
CM7 is probably one of the best roms but has nightly updates almost everyday, which is great for people like me who want to be on the bleeding edge but not if you dont want to update.
Stock 2.2.2 GB retail via MSU has 1-2 random reboots/day marring its Kudos. Always when you really don't need it...
True, I forgot about that, I tried it for an hour and was amazed that the official was that bad. In that case nordic froyo is very stable and 2.3.4 motoginger is also very good too, just takes a bit longer to install though.

Really? Wow, mine has been rock solid with overclock to 1Ghz. My hero running MoDaCo and villain used to bork out all the time, but the defy has been up for 3 days now using gps, sms, email, wifi tether and web and not a single reboot or lock.
Running launcher pro with scale transition effect and it is very smooth and responsive - very pleased with it so far.
Sounds like I might be doing something wrong
I wonder if some folks hardware (mem and cpu) is a bit flaky? Might be interesting to see place and date of manufacturer of those units that are rebooting. Still does not explain why they can run CM7 well though.
Practically every rom has ran fine for me except 2.2.2 uk. I even used MSU and then re-did using rsdlite, both instances it was terrible. If I was a standard user and didn't experiment with different roms I probably would have been pissed you must be one of the lucky ones.

The biggest difference I can find by looking through both threads (Cherryblur/Ninja) is that Cherryblur also supports the international build of gingerbread (being 4.5.2.0 OrangeFR), whereas Ninja only supports AT&T.
However, there are other minor differences. One difference is that ninjablur uses the new market, whereas cherryblur uses the old market.
But cherryblur seems to be more of a complete rom from the info given in the first post. These are features that it offers that ninjablur doesn't (according to the ninjablur thread):
2048k SDCard Buffer
Circular Battery and Custom Data Icons
Battery fix implemented
10 Point Multi-Touch
Proximity updates in build.prop
Avoid screen staying on in calls
WiFi scan in build.prop set to 90
Preinstall script neutered to avoid install of AT&T crapware
QuickOffice app REMOVED
Tethering enabled to use stock Hotspot app!
AGPS Enabled
Shows a menu item under location for VZW, supposedly enables AGPS from YOUR network (not just Verizon)
MMS "Reply to all" Enabled
Untested, does it work for you?
Max recipients of SMS/MMS increased to 20
Untested, does it work for you?
Disabled the locking of Default APNs so you can edit them
GTALK WITH VIDEO!!!
WEBTOP OVER HDMI!!!
Re-added ICE for contacts
WAKE ON VOLUME HACK!
Also, don't be afraid of the red theme, you can download a theme uninstaller that will give your phone the stock look (while keeping all of the rom features).
I would go with cherryblur.

Actually both use the old market.
Also know that none of the available themes will work on the cherryblur rom.
My advice: try them both for a few days and see which you like best.
If you use CherryBlur, you might have to flash the 4.5.91 radio to get 3G working if you're on AT&T.

Ok thanks for clearing that up
I had the 4-5 beta, then ran CherryBlur .5 and switched back to beta 4-5. When CherryBlur 1.1 came out I switched and stayed until version 1.3. The webtop had stopped working for some reason so I tried Ninja .4 and the speed freak .5 version. Ninja runs really good but I think that CherryBLurs 4.5.2 runs better. Seems snappier between screens and opening apps. Like the person above said, try them all out. Heck about a week ago I was on rooted on 1.5.7 and have learned to flash, unlock my bl and managed to soft brick my phone LOL. I definately am learning. Being I had carpal tunnel surgery and I'm home from work the next few weeks, I might try to learn more about ROMs and stuff.
Two new kids in town... Cherry(3.142) and Alien...

I've been switching between the two and to me the latest Cherryblur seems the snappiest and most stable, I was getting a few FC's with Ninja SF.
However, I don't like the theme on Cherryblur and can't seem to flash mattedblues
Ninja Vs CherryBlur
I was on the same dilema for a few days reading long posts on the Ninja Trhead until I decided to give it a try(Ninja)
- Went directly to Build 2 and have not experienced major problems so far other than the Theme refuses to install.
I came from Ronaldo´s Rom which is very stable and also based on Ken´s work but a little slow and nothing special featurewise. Also I was experiencing a few connection problems and GPS a little slow to Fix.
Ninja is fast, as I said, theaming does not work for me (I think I know what I am doing but it just refuses to install from CWM nor Rom Manager) As I cannot get the theme to install and a few features are based on it, there is nothing more I can add on that regard.
I am concerned on the maturity of the rom and how slo it is movin forward in fixing bugs/adding features..
Sorry, cannot say much about C/b since I have not used it but from the paper I think is more mature and also based on the old market (Ninja is on the new whinch I dont get along well with.

I hear you, I like the eye-candy of the Honeycomb roms but I've always been a performance over eye-candy kinda guy.
That being said, I've tried all forms of roms on this tablet but the one I kept going back to (and currently using) is the Beasty/Clemsyn rom which ironically also uses VTL (Vegan Tab Launcher) as its default launcher.
Using SetCPU will allow you to OC to 1.6 as well as undervolt it. (gets kinda hot at 1.6 without undervolting)
Get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1084573
There is actually an easy way to get the 5.1.1 ROM on BL 2.0. Just install the 1.1 ROM and flash a 1.2 Kernel over it before rebooting. I used Clems newest Froyo kernel.
The fastest I've come across the the C&C ROM. Fast, and stable, with almost everything working. I say "almost" because myself and a few others have problems with gifs on web pages from some unknown reason. My second choice, and the one I use, is Brilliant Corners.
Btw Clemesyn has released the Ultimate froyo ROM. A port from notion ink. I think you should try it. The rom is in development thread

On my Gtab, Clemsyn+Beasty is way faster. Stable as a heavy rock. I've run a lot of different roms, but have found none that can match C+B for my usage.
BTW, if you do decide to go with Beasty, make sure that you get his latest update. I believe it was released 10-14-2011. I had an earlier version, and had some Skype issues with it. The new version has corrected those.
I should mention that I have also run the C+C rom (yesterday in fact) just to compare. Nope, doesn't come close to the speed of C+B.
Good luck.
Just flashed C+B from recommendations on this thread. Loving it so far.

Main thing is C+C has the Tap-n-Tap elements and C+B is a NI/Adam port which is more Android like.
I cannot stand the Tnt menus, so my daily is C+B. And its FAST, stable, and everything works.
Thank you everyone for posting. I will try out the Clemsyn+Beastly rom. It sounds like a true beast. Ill post back with my experience on it.
Personally i would try the rom Brilliant Corners. It is hands down my favorite Froyo rom.
Why don't you give VEGanTab 7.1 a try, it is Gingerbread 2.3. Everything works on that ROM, camera, BT, h.264 video etc. OC to 1.6 using Clemsyn's Gingerbread kernel.

Looks like an interesting rom, and I'd try it IF they could get the video camera working. I use Skype for video chats, and since the camera in VT 7.1 only works in still mode, not video, that is a deal killer for me.
Nice eye candy though.
I am having problems with this rom. I am posting here because I didn't have sufficient credit to post in the actual thread. I flashed and it works great, but now whenever I try to install an apk, it reboots every single time and never installs. Any ideas on how to fix this? I went back to factory firmware and wiped everything completely clean before flashing to this rom.

After flashing I always boot back into recovery and wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe Dalvic as well. Wives your issues I would also suggest fixing permissions.
Try this and see if it helps.
Thanks Joeb. Everytime I went back to recovery it was the built in recovery from the rom and not the cwm one. I just chose wipe factory/user data and all works now. One thing I noticed coming from gtacomb was the gtacomb browser had more features and was 10x faster than the one that comes with this rom. Anyway to get the honeycomb version of browser on this tab?
On my gtablet C+C is faster than C+B.... As everyone was saying that C+B was the faster froyo rom I gave it another try on past weekend but I still feel that C+C is faster and more stable...
Maybe it's because I'm not using any app to manage the overclock features?
Does VeganTab 7.1 have hardware acceleration? We might be able to have skype videochats working if we flash Clemsyn fix for that...
I have tryed many of Roms and Flashed my Gtab more then I can think of and always end up reloading Beast. To me its seems to be the most stable and reliable Rom for Froyo. I like that I can customize it with different boot Images and wallpaper to make it almost portray Vegan 7.0. If one was to choose a everyday user I would believe that Beast would be hands down the one to choose. As far as the browser issue I don't use the one it came with and use Dolphin HD. Way better and a perfect match for this Rom.
