I don't think I've ever bought a phone upon it's release date. Last time I bought from VZW was in my pre-Eris days when I had an LG VX8700 (still my fav non-smart-phone).
Anyway, in anticipation of this TBolt launch, where would you guys expect to see the best pricing? I don't know if the corporate stores, Amazon or Best Buy, or VZW online or a satellite kiosk traditionally have the best pricing/rebates, etc.>
Just looking for the most bang for my buck I guess.
I do find it ridiculous that they've not announced pricing. If they are "coming soon" they have to know this crap.
if your looking for online then go for Wirefly if your also getting a new contract( i wouldnt but thats me)
of if your looking for full price either amazon or bestbuy. i suspect it will be sold out quick so bestbuy's preorder would make sure you get dibs

Yeah, I'll be doing a new contract, NO way in hellz I'm going to pay full retail for the bugger.
I wonder if BB will let me in on their "buy back" program for free if I pre-order this week. I guess that new service is free this week only. ?
I will find out.

Im paying full $600+
id say Wirefly as they give a ridiculous discount. but dont break their contract or you will be paying out the ass to them
Been with VZW since '98, I doubt I'll jump ship in the next 24 months. I just need to make sure that whatever I do w/the phone it does NOT affect my monthly pricing (I've got that great 69.99 plan for unlimited text, data, 450 minutes and 5 friends and family #'s).
Wirefly is good on some phones, but Amazon is sometimes better with their discounts.
I will be adding two of these to an existing plan, and porting numbers over from ATT, so I think I will see who offers the best deal. Including calling VZW directly and pitching them whatever lowest price I find online.
ATT's sales/retention has always matched Amazon prices for me in the past and without the pesky secondary ETF to worry about.

Its probably grandfathered in from long ago. Much like ATT will let you keep an existing unlimited data plan, but they no longer offer it to new customers.

It was a special pricing plan but it ended on 1/31. You had to be "invited" by VZW to get it -or- had to call in to customer service and ask REAL nice about their loyalty program.
My contract was due to be up this year, so I think that's how I got it.

My T-bolt was pre-ordered with wirefly shortly after midnight pst.
Anyone else go this route? I should have it Friday, fingers crossed!
Mine is as well, gotta love not having to pay state tax at best buy!
Funny thing, I didn't even know wirefly was preordering tonite. I just happened to return my giftcard from the preorder at bestbuy.
I hope you all used fatwallet to get an additional $25 cashback. There is a coupon for a Transcend 4GB MicroSD Card & Mini & Standard Adapters.
So instead of Besbuy and its $300, it is 175 from wirefly thanks to fatwallet. I actually didn't remember at first, so I had to cancel my first order and redo it with fatwallet.
I ordered as well, i hope the standard fedex shipping gets here before monday
I don't even see it on the site? Did they pull it off?
EDIT: NM, it suddenly appeared. If I do this pre order, it's not going to mess w/my plan, right? I've got that 69.99/month for 450 minutes, unlimited data and 5 friends/family.
We don't know VZW pricing yet, do we?

By any chance is that $199 price to extend your contract for upgrades only or are they doing special promotional pricing for anyone who extends their contract?

What I'm afraid of is losing the $20 credit I get every month for the "special" plan that I'm on (that's the one that expired on 1/31 and was "only" available to special people). It's $59.99 (+) 29.99 (-) $20 = 69.98 for unlimited data, text, 450 minutes PLUS 5 friends and family (usually you only get that on 900+ minute plans). It wants me to add a plan to my cart and of course THAT plan isn't available. ~sigh~
I think I'm going to HAVE to get it from VZW so I can save the $30 w/my final NE2 discount. I wonder if VZW will have a $50 "visa" rebate to get the price down. I did the pre-order w/BB and have that $50 GC but they won't do the NE2 credit, I've asked several times. Coulda returned the BB card I guess, but I'll end up using it, I do shop there upon occasion :-D
Don't know if Wirefly has improved their activation process but I remember when the Incredible first came out, a bunch of people purchased from them because it was cheaper and they had issues with shipment, activation, and customer service. If I recall correctly there were people unable to activate their phones for almost a week. Just an fyi.......

Will this make us eligible to terminate our contract without an ETF and go month to month? I would definitely be interested in re-signing a new contract for another phone.
They did this back in 2008 to the same fee and it was possible to cancel. Actually getting to Verizon to do it is a different story.
http://consumerist.com/2008/04/esca...-based-on-administrative-charge-increase.html
Well my question more specifically is...can I basically end my 2 year contractual commitment and go month to month due to this change? Or do I have to cancel completely and move to another carrier?
I have no desire to break my contract but I wouldn't mind getting them to offer me some freebies to not do it.
On the other hand, if I got out of the contract and something happened to my phone I could get a new one at a reasonable price so it could be my insurance. Hmmm...

That's exactly what I'm interested in. I'm wondering if it will basically let me get a new phone at a subsidized price anytime I want since I'm off contract. Essentially an upgrade available immediately for me.
You would probably lose your unlimited data and get on the 2/4Gb plan.... by having to start a new month to month contract.

Month-to-month customers rarely get discounted devices. Generally you will have to pay full price for a new phone. It wouldn't be worth it. And I agree that you would lose your unlimited data that way. On the other hand, if you break your contract, you could possibly come back in a week or so and sign up for a new one to get a discounted phone.

That's exactly what I meant. Stay month-to-month until a new phone comes out and resign a 2 year for a fully subsidized line.
If you break contract you are at the will of Verzion. If they decide they want to raise your price, reduce your data, etc, they can do it. The only thing keeping you in the plan you have now is the fact they have to honor their end of the deal too.
I will try this tonight. I have a line that I keep suspended, so this would be a great out for me.

Which is only a slight discount from buying it outright in the beginning.
VZW charges $299 for these devices with a $350 ETF that drops $10 a month. Same $649 either way - you're just paying for your freedom in advance.

But we're talking about getting to break the contract without the ETF and we already have a phone. So I paid 1 penny for my phone and am on a 2 year contract. If I got out of contract and went month to month without the ETF and lose my phone then it will only cost me $150 to get a new phone with a new contract at Amazon or Wirefly. I don't know why people pay more and buy at Verizon.
The issue would be what they would charge you for a plan month to month - or if they even offer that option, they might just say see ya - and if you keep unlimited data if you already have it.
Regardless of who you buy your phone from, in the end we'll all be dealing with Verizon in the end. The .01 Rezound was a deal for new customers only/new lines only I believe. I'm not going to buy from wirefly or any of those retailers. I don't think Costco reduces the price of the phone too much when it first comes out. I do know they generally offer nice bundles for pretty much the same price though. With my company I do get more $ off my devices ranging from $50 - $100. Not sure if other places can apply that discount or not. Imo I don't see what the big deal is from such a minuscule bump in price. When we signed up with Verizon we all knew we were going to pay the highest rates already to begin with. Slight price increase with the 4-5 years I've been with them, I frankly could care less. You pay what you get for imo. If you people want to terminate and sign back up to get a subsidized phone you can try. I'm pretty sure they have some policy or regulation in place that will prevent such scenario. Well! Good luck to those that decide to go down this path.

Pretty sure the 1 penny deal was for any new contract, existing customers or new, but that's neither here nor there. I only brought up the price I paid cuz the poster I was responding to was adding up costs.
As to the additional costs, I could care less about pennies more per month, but if it creates a way to lose the 2 year commitment that would be cool since that would allow me to replace the phone for only $149 if something should happen to it. Most likely I won't do anything about it, I'll wait and see if anyone else reports back successfully. I've already had so much good luck getting this phone I may be pushing things. I got refunded $199.98 from Amazon when it went on sale, ordered it with the mhs to get the Amazon $100 gift card for which I found no fine print stating I had to keep it for any length of time, then found the unlimited data plan trick so bumped up my mhs to unlimited to get that. I really needed a new phone too so I made out like a bandit! Oh, and moms got me a 64gb card for xmas (she actually thought it was a boring gift, lol). Now I just have to get brave enough to root.

I thought about that, but if Verizon is the one breaking the terms perhaps there's an out and they would be held responsible. However, I suppose they would just subsidize that pennies per month cost to keep the contract valid if it came to that.
Just wondering why Best Buy is charging more. I will ultimately pay everything subsidized price, but am taxed on the $749 price.

That's why I decided to go with AT&T, since it was $100 cheaper than what Best Buy offers for full price.
Because that's the price we got them at. it sucks because if we got them at 650 my employee price would be around 500 if you're buying outright though we will gladly price match atts 650

Subsidized: BB making money on your monthly bills. It adds up nicely for 2 years.
Unsubsidized: BB making money on phone sale only.
Most 3rd party retailers ask more than AT&T's list price for unsubsided price.
This is not a surprise. Bestbuy's unsubsidized prices are always way over everyone else's. The same can be said for pretty much any product they carry.

True. It's better to buy the phone outright from AT&T itself. Although BB has one of the best prices when it comes to upgrades, after awhile when it goes down, of course. I've never used Wal-Mart to upgrade, even though I heard they have the lowest price when it comes to upgrades.
I have always been successful in getting Best Buy to match the ATT store price on no commitment prices. Best Buy has no restock fee just in case you are not 100% you will keep the phone, which I am never sure when buying no commitment. Plus, it is easier to get gift cards from Best Buy...
As far as being taxed for $749, sounds like a state issue...

That does suck. They are not required to do it. The one I shop at has like 3 ATT stores within 5 miles so they call to make sure the phone is in stock at the ATT store and then they discount the phone to match.
Maybe find a BB with ATT stores close by?

I'll do that next year once I'm due for my upgrade. I'm going to use it to get the S3 once it comes out and see if anyone would price match it. Although I'm not hopeful.
The Note was the one thing that was going to get me to upgrade and renew my at&t contract...which I hadn't done since 2007 with the original iPhone.
But unless a 3rd party vendor drops the subsidized pricing rather soon to a more reasonable price, I won't upgrade.
On top of that, my current contract doesn't let me use LTE...due to APN issues. So I'm gonna wait to see if someone finds a way around that (if it's actually possible).
They don't make money off the subsidized phone over the 2 years. They get around $200-350 from the phone company after the sale.
I was a part of the group that started BB Mobile in 2006.

Thanks for clarify that. The main profit comes from the 2-year contract. What I didn't know is AT&T pay them up front.

I didn't notice until after the fact that it was not available in stock yet but this is the best deal I've seen so I'm willing to wait a little and see how it goes. I was also concerned I would not get the gift card if my purchase was not completed before December 1st but I talked to a customer service rep and they confirmed I would receive the gift card based on the order date not the ship date. They also said they estimated they would receive it in stock today which was a surprise. Sounds too good to be true but fingers crossed. Their website ordering is odd though. The pricing is hokey, looks different than Verizon. Did VZ contact you after the order to confirm pricing?
In particular Walmart has 2G data pack for $45 where its $60 on VZ...and Walmart only shows text package of $10 /1000 texts....aren't the new VZ plans including unlimited talk and text?
Sorry, this is a nice deal but I have unlimited Data which I know will change but I don't want them effin up the order
Just curious what your experience with the order was.
Thanks!
Well...that doesn't seem like a good deal after all...the $100 gift card you get is only limited to purchases within Walmart; whereas if you buy the DNA with a $20 coupon from Wirefly, you only pay $129.99 and you have the choice whether to spend that $100 on Walmart or not.

Sorry, this is a nice deal but I have unlimited Data which I know will change but I don't want them effin up the order
Just curious what your experience with the order was.
Thanks!

No, VZ did not contact me after. But it did take about 24 hours through the Walmart website for "Carrier Approval". I did not change the plan. It asked me whether I wanted to switch to a Share Everything Plan and I said no. So I selected a $30 for 2GB plan for each phone. The plan already includes unlimited texting. I also have 1400 minutes but it was strange that it showed 700 minutes for each line. I'll have to check my plan after I activate both of the lines and see what it looks like.
For some reason Wirefly has just made me nervous in the past. A Walmart gift card is a good as cash to me so I'm good with that.

Yep, ordered mine this morning. i stopped by VZ store to check out the DNA first and man what a great looking phone, cant wait to get some more time on it.
The VZ rep explained to me that I would pick the 2GB but that would be my phone and my wifes plan would stay unlimited until she upgraded or I changed to a shared tier. Which I may do at the next billing cycle because it would save me a few bucks each month.
Again thanks man for this link, we shop at Walmart all the time so that $100 will come in handy!

Can't you buy your phones off contract there?

Yep, for $600 or more. Plus I think there is only one carrier that offers a discounted monthly rate if you buy off contract vs subsidized. Our consumers are too dense to realize that they'd be better off paying full price for phones and demanding lesser monthly fees from the carriers. Everyone wants their fancy new device for relative pennies but will pay through the nose in monthly fees without batting an eye.

I noticed when I looked at the iPhone store for the US once that all the prices were under contract, where here in the UK it's buying directly with no contract. Also here you can purchase a month by month sim and you get the same deals as you do with the full on monthly contracts and they're much cheaper.
Why I was interested in the Nexus 4 was because it's £230-280 and I could get a contract of £25quid a month, cancel it any time and it's the same deal of unlimited data as the monthly version.
Sadly no 32GB version killed it for me because there is no Micro SD either.
Walmart will price match Radio Shack, who had it for $149, but only if you have a printed ad. Then you still get the $100 gift card, too.

It drives me crazy that carriers are still allowed to do this bs. All phones should come unlocked at full price from manufacturer or carrier, and carrier should have to compete for customers based on value and price of service. Unfortunately it is @ss backwards and carriers try locking out certain phones so you jump ship to get their overpriced sh1t service for the new shiny phone. They make you pay $599, sign up and cancel an hour later to use on another carrier -- truly sad
Verizon blows

I don't think most Americans would pay unsubsidized price for a smart phone. Sure, some would, but it would only take 1 carrier to offer a discount and people would jump all over it.

He speaks the truth. No one looks at total price anymore, only monthly payments. There's a good portion of the population that can't even get that right.

Has anyone successfully done this? That would be a crazy good price, making it $49. But maybe they would price match somewhere else for $199 making the price $99 instead of the $139 I paid. Either way I'm happy. My screen is dead on my Evo so I was more than ready for a new phone.
Also I looked at my account and everything looks good.
I wasn't able to find a print ad with the Radio Shack price, but they will price match any ad long ad it's not the Verizon ad, is what I was told. They said they just can't price match against VZW corporate.

Huh...is this only available through online? I bought mine from Wirefly for $129.99 and so if that price match does apply then I might as well return mine and get one again from Walmart

Hi, currently Amazon has the HTC One m8 for 149.99$ on Amazon, which is 50$ off normal retail on a 2-year contract. I'm currently on the grandfathered unlimited plan but if I upgrade through Amazon, I have to select one of their plans. Is there any way to keep Unlimited Data? And if I order the phone, would calling AT&T help get my plan back?
I would highly recommend you don't do that. If you choose a different plan, then AT&T probably will NOT let you get it back. So that I don't take any chances, I always upgrade directly in a corporate AT&T store or via the website. And when I'm in the store, I verify with the salesperson that they're not touching my data plan.
I actually just gave up my unlimited data because its so restricted. Could only use data on my phone, couldn't tether without getting a nasty phone call from them saying they were going to add in charges since I was tethering without the plan - thats even after using workarounds on XDA they still caught me ? But yeah if you really don't wanna lose it then go directly into the store and go for it. You can still do AT&T Next with the Unlimited plan if you were interested in that over the 2 year plan also. I had originally done that, but it was too expensive, so I switched to mobile share...sucks since I was unlimited for so long but I found that my average data use was around 2 GB per month anyways strangely. I use lots of Wifi. Anyways, definitely wont let you get it back if you change it.
I think they price match at the store.

Go to bestbuy, they will price match amazon and let you stay on your current plan.
that's what I did. actually I also had the $50 phone upgrade discount option sitting at best buy since last feb as well, so I combined both and got the phone for $100 plus tax.
Thanks everyone! I think I might go with the Best Buy price match option, that way I get the phone on the same day and if there's any problems I can exchange the phone without having to ship and wait days.

Correct, you had to sign up around the Superbowl and essentially "reserve" a $50 gift card.
If you upgrade at a Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile, you can keep your same plan and your unlimited data feature. Their system doesn't force employees to change your plan or its associated features.

So I just went to Best Buy and they said they do NOT price match on contract phones. I kept insisting that other people did it but they gave me a thing and checked online and it said they don't. I have no idea how you were able to but I brought the Amazon paper and everything and they said no.
It seems I'm gonna have to go with Next.
That sucks. Mine was an add-on line to my girlfriends existing account. But they guy didn't seem to care if it was on contract, new line - he was just happy to make the sale. This was at one of the Best Buy Mobile booths in the SF Bay Area.
