I currently have Bionix Final R1 custom rom installed on my Vibrant and just yesterday I got the notice that Froyo is available for update from T-Mobile. Am I able to take the update with the custom rom installed or do I have to flash back to stock then update to Froyo?
Best bet is back to stock.

Thanks for the reply.
Would I also have to unroot the phone to make sure the OTA Froyo update works?
No probably not, the update was released with mini kies so it should update no matter what
Only issue I think I'm facing is that it is only letting me postpone the update. I would prefer to just get the latest Bionix V that runs on 2.2 instead of getting the stock 2.2. Thoughts?
Would I be ok doing a data wipe/factory reset on my phone then doing the OTA update or flashing a different rom?
Maybe you wanna try Bionix v1.2.1 before you go to OTA Froyo update
Skip official and go with bio v. Why would anyone want stock???

From what I can understand I can just flash the new Bionix w/o doing any wipe, I just flash on top right?

I am not too familiar with R1, back then I was using Axura. Only thing I suggest is if you have a lag fix disable 1st, then you should be able to flash right over it since Bionix wipes. I THINK you have to disable the old Voodoo version as well but either way do it to be safe.

Rooted my moms eris and want to update it to the latest ota update not worried about root allthough a rooted oced ota would be nice is there a rom out there like this??
Kinda need it to be stable since its my moms phone so i figure just going to the latest ota would be the best bet.
FYI
i tried to just update via the phone but kept getting settings force close errors...
if you are rooted any rom here is 2.1 or higher, just download a rom and your set, dont worry about ota...
fyi plainjane 2.1 is proably your best bet if your wanting to keep that 2.1 stock feel,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685581
To get to the OTA
Flash the latest PB00IMG.zip leaked version 3 through the bootloader, let the phone boot up as normal sign in to google whatever. When your done you will get the OTA and it will run successfully, I just did it today because I had to unroot and I'm actually leaving now to bring my phone back to Verizon for Trackball problems, again..... You can then reroot if you want and you will be on the new latest radio etc...
T2Noob released a Stock rom with Root and the ability to Overclock with the Newest OTA about a month back, check it out

I wild even try the cyborg evolution rom since its based off the latest 2.1 ruu.
Just take a look at the ROMs that are available and see what they are bad on.

At the moment I'm running JI6 stock rooted and OCLF. I was thinking of installing the new "Core v1" or Bionix but I just had a couple questions.
After I install a new rom, and a new update comes out, do I have to reflash the new update? Or is there a option in the rom itself to update to the newer version?
This is my first android phone and so far searching has gotten me all the answers I need but this one I have not found an answer to.
Thanks alot!
In short, you will not get an update notification on most if not all custom roms. On the plus side, these new features are usually leaked and implemented into the roms prior to the OTA updates so you really won't need them.

Sorry, I know that I won't receive official updates OTA when a rom is installed.
What I meant was if I were to, for example, flash Bionix 1.3, and a day or two later Bionix 1.4 was released, would I be able to update from the phone itself or would I have to reflash the new rom?
Ok before everybody goes crazy over here and starts to roast me for putting up such a noob question and all that and telling me to search.. Here it goes.. Dont do it please!
Ok so i got TeamWiskey's Froyo 2.2 i like the rom and everything but the phone and contacts.apk suck they are terribly laggy and etc. So also my launcherpro plus seems to lag a bit more on 2.2 so now im wondering how to revert back to 2.1 without using ODIN! i dont do odin i dont know odin and i dont wanna mess with odin.. So is it possible i can just flash a 2.1 kernel like TeamWiskeys Core v3 and then flash a 2.1 Rom? Or no its not possible..
I have not done it personally, but if you flash the stock JI6 kernel you could probably just restore one of your nandroid backups of stock (assuming you have one).
Just install Bionix or something

I dont think installing bionix or fusion will get me back to 2.1 kernel or will it? And hmm i dont want to risk anything nd im not sure if i have a nandroid of 2.1 or is my nandroid 2.2
just flash a rom with a kernel that is built into the rom. any of the bionix roms should do.

Yes, almost (It think all) custom 2.1 ROMs have a kernel built in.
I know Master Rom does
Bionix does
Fusion does
etc
If you open the zip & go to updates & see zImage then yes
Alrite cool so ill just try that i didnt trust myself into doing it and risking a brick so yeah thanks for the help guys//
Ok it worked somebody can lock this now.. All i did was flash another fusion rom =]
The instructions I followed to install superclean had me download the leaked froyo then flash over with sc. Can I install sc on my wife's if she gets the ota froyo update or do I need to flash the leaked froyo first? Can't believe that froyo was released 1 day after I finally updated on my own! (Kind of glad though bc I love sc and wouldn't have had the seeds to flash a custom rom if I didn't think that froyo was never coming )

Hey guys I'm having some trouble flashing jb roms. It always freezes during the install. I'm currently on ics.

I never flashed from ICS that I recall. However, you could Odin back to stock. Flash a good stable froyo and try to flash up from there.
I don't remember now if GB boot loader is 100% required but I have it on mine.
I'm getting ready to take an exam, if you haven't got it sorted before I return, I'll help you get running.
Thanks for the reply, I do have the gb bootloaders and I tried going back to stock and still no luck. I get a soft brick every time.

Which ICS ROM are you coming from, and are you doing full wipe?
I had a chance to think about it, and I had trouble getting up to 4.1 the first time I tried. I ended up stepping up gradually.
Odin'd to stock then went up to bionic, skipped GB, went up to latest CM ICS I believe... Then from there onto JB. Been fine since.
Its been a while but that's best as my memory cares to serve me.
I don't think its a real common problem, but occasionally something doesn't jive somewhere.
Hi,
Its not necessary BUT it will always work Odin back to stock and continuing. Once I tried to flash ICZen from FROYO but no luck. Then I ODIN back to stock then CM7 in the middle and ICS on top of it and it WORKED. I have flashed GB bootloaders to get easy key mapping (Anyway u have to flash it if it is required by the ROM) I have flahed JB 4.2.2 Avatar ROM on top of ICZen which has worked for me. woody has a [Guide] How to install ICS **EVERYTHING you need to know how to install them** so you can get an idea Sometimes you have to flash the ROM twice b/c CWM updation
Always do a CLEAN flash (FULL wipe) before flashing a new ROM
Hope u would get JB ROM flashed successfully
tc
