If you try to boot the latest version of Honeycomb off the SD card you might get a prompt at the login screen for a password to decrypt storage. No matter how hard you try to guess the password you will not be able to guess it. I think this is a glitch in the bootloader.
The fix to this is the following:
Place the SD card in your computer
open the boot partition, it will load as a drive under the name "boot".
Copy the uImage file to your desktop or other place on your pc
delete the uImage file on the boot partition
copy the saveduImage file onto the boot partition.
eject SD card
place in Nook Color and enjoy android 3.0 v04
There seems to be a problem in the image where once the card boots for the first time, honeycomb encrypts a portion of the boot image. All that is required to circumvent this is delete the image paste back.
The downside is that this will have to be done ever single time you want to boot your device.
The permanent solution at the moment is to install honeycomb to the emmc of your device.
Hopefully this issue will be addressed in the next release.
Or try Dalingrin OC uImage for SD?

This problem seems to be experienced by a minority of users. Whether it turns out to be a problem with the HC rom DB has put, user error, both, etc remains to be seen. Thankfully, I am no longer affected by this issue and don't have to do this everytime I boot after swapping SD cards. With my current SD card I have also recently got the OC'd 1100Mhz version (the 1GHz one hung on my NC but works for others) running it seems to work without this issue as well. Have you tried all the alternative SD cards / kernels?
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense whatever is the culprit. Since not all SD cards are made the same, I'm not entirely convinced it's not the SD cards people are using. It may be that the current HC rom is picky about what brand of card you use? Perhaps not all NC hardware is equal?
HC is also potentially not encrypting anything at all but rather mistaking corrupted data for encrypted data. Perhaps the uImage is getting corrupted after every boot / shutdown? It prompts for a password because it can't open the data? If the issue can't be reproduced in a test environment and still only affects so few users then it likely won't be fixed in the next release. It also could never be fixed is the issue is with the hardware (i.e. NC, SD card, etc).
I offer this food for thought in the hopes that eventually it may eventually lead to a resolution to the affected users if such a thing is possible. At least for now, you can boot it and just never turn it off?
I tried doing this and the problem still occurred. I followed it step by step and was still left with the request to decrypt storage through a password.
I will say that I hope the next version doesn't have this problem. A 16gb class 10 card jumps from about $45 to about $100 if you need to buy the specific ScanDisk brand (which is the best) making the total cost of the tablet $350 instead of $300.
Yet for $350 other options start to open up, for only $150 is one could buy the playbook from RIM which runs android apps. I am sure, before the summer is up, a $400 wifi only tablet will show itself running honeycomb without any hacking at all.
Why do I need to spend that mch time on this trouble? I simply turn it off and on again and the problem is gone...
I turn it off and on again and the same problem occurs, I can't even get into Honeycomb because every time I turn it on, before even showing the lock screen, it asks for the password to decrypt.
The fix doesn't work. I am just staying with froyo now. No point to pull my hairs out for this since I have been trying for more than a week.

Actually one time I managed to boot up the hc after I copied and pasted the overclock uimage file to the SD card. However, I received so many fc problems; the rom was completely not usable.

True. In that same time, the source for HC will be released and the NC won't have to run this incomplete "preview" version. For those unable to run HC on their nook now may have better luck with the full OS release. I will not be buying a HC tablet but will instead waiting for this. I'm expecting the HC source to be available before April. Those that are impatient / don't like enjoy experimenting, tinkering with a Android devices would do better to buy a device that ships with HC already.
Just chmod 777 all files on each partition and be done with it lol.... its a permissions issue folks...

Well this is an obvious issue. I have a 16Gb ADATA sdcard I've been using for the past month running HC v04 on with no issues. However I just got my hands on 2 32Gb sdcards. One is a Class 4 Kingston, and the other is a Class 10 Wintec card. On each of the 32Gb cards I get this "enter password to decrypt storage". I have tried what the OP said on both cards with no luck at this point. I put my old 16Gb card back in the Nook and all is good t ogo.
If anyone can shed any other light or thoughts on this would be great. Or as mentioned above could you give us the specific info on what and how to chmod 777 all the files to fix the permissions if that is the problem. thanks in advance for any help/input. Peace

I had the same problem with that card. Initially it booted fine, but it got corrupted and no amount of reflashing or anything else would get it past the password screen. my only though is that maybe if you can get in once, you could go to the honeycomb settings and change the password (though still annoying in that case since it'd mean you'd have to enter it on every boot).
Other microSD cards work fine though, so it seems very dependent on what model card you are trying to use.

Guys...the card itself is locked. you need to do the "gold card" method to unlock the card. This involves getting the CID of the card, then getting that reversed, then getting an unlocked image for the hex locations 0 - 170 (before the file system). Just do a search for "gold card mmc" and you'll find it. I needed to do this to root and install a modified ROM on my Fender edition phone as well.

Good idea, I found the threads that explain how to do this and followed the instructions. Sadly, this didn't solve the problem though.
I dont think it's a *real* crypto issue. I believe the problem is that Android believes, for some reason, that the FS us encrypted because it can not read it properly.

Thanks for the info I'll try giving it a shot tonight when I get home from work. However I will say that does not make a whole lot of sense to a degree. Specifically in reference to my Kingston sdcards. Reason I say that is I have called and talked to CS and they said they " DO NOT" lock any of there sdcards including mine that I asked about. Be that as it may I'll still give it a shot to see if it corrects the problem.

I've tried everything I can think of, but I can't seem to get my damned Fascinate to recognize the SD card.
I was running on some version of a Cyanogen 7 based Rom, I think Runnymede SIII, when the card stopped mounting properly, giving me an error message saying, "blank external SD card: SD card blank or has unsupported file system." When I go into CWM recovery, I can't mount the card at all, I get a message saying e:can't mount sd card.
Anyway, I've flashed through successively earlier and earlier official roms, and now I'm all the way down to stock DL09. No dice.
Any ideas as to how to fix this stupid thing? I don't even care about the storage, I just want to flash CM7 onto the phone and be done with it. I don't suppose there are any ODIN packages for CyanogenMod?

@Shipyaad: try error-checking your sd card on your PC. Put in card reader, right click in Windows explorer, choose "properties," goto tools tab, check for errors, check both "surface scan" and "automatically fix errors"
This should get your card working again until you get a new one (it's not a permanent fix)

I don't recomend a 32gb sd card either...folks are having issues with them aswell on mtd roms. I use a pny class 10 16gb with no issues.
OK, well.... so I picked up a Sandisk 8gb class 6 card today. Everything seemed to be fine, I was able to flash Cyanogenmod 7 (stable), and I was very happy.

What do you mean cwm stoped seeing the card? Are you saying when you go into recovery your get the e: cant mount errors? Also just to make sure, on the stock cm7.1 kernel you cant three finger into recovery oncer your on cm7 or you will get those errors. Right. When I'm in recovery I'm getting the e: can't mount sdcard error. I don't think I used the three finger method after installing cyanogenmod though I might be mistaken about that. Perhaps re-Odin'ing cwm would help?

I am having the same issue.. The stock Samsung 16GB class 2 that came with the phone started to give me E:Can't mount /sdcard issues.. Well 32gb cards dont play nice with mtd roms... Also dont buy anything less than a class 6. Pny makes a class 10 8gb for 12.99 or the 16gb for 20.00. Thats what i run and all my issues are gone. I finally got it fixed. Turned out that voodoo lagfix was turned on and the system not converted to EXT4.. Had to enable voodoo on boot so that the system would be converted to EXT4 and then I was able to access the sd card in CWM..
Funny you mentioned that I should get a class 10 because I was under the impression that anything over class 4 suffers from poor random read speeds and the benefit is only faster writing. And in applications like mobile phones, read speeds are more important for accessing data.. Double the storage capacity and faster class than my original Samsung 16gb class 2, I think I'm ahead of the game in any regards at this point..

I searched the forums on here and deducted that information from what people were saying.. Again, I'm just going by what I read on XDA..
As far as lag fix being on, I am completely lost on how or why it was enabled (I was on MTD rom) .. I odined the KGB kernel and converted to EXT4 on boot.. When I rebooted back into recovery, the card could be accessed.. I then flashed the SC.05 and the conversion back to RFS occurred on first boot (don't know why).. Rebooted to recovery after that and converted back to EXT4 and I'm doing good now..
All I know is that I'm able to access the card in CWM now and my phone hit over 2000 on quadrant for the first time ever using this ROM.. Only lag I notice is using Gallery to open my pictures..
I apologize if there is an answer to this somewhere but I have spent the last 3 days looking and could not find a clear answer. I have tried many different methods, SD cards and many many MANY attempts but I can not get my nook tablet to boot from the SD card. The closest I get is after I hold power and N to power up then down, insert the SD card and then power up (USB and Button get the same result). After the N screen I get a flash of the root screen but then the factory reset question. ANY help would be appreciated. My wife is going to kill me if I spend too much time on this! Thanks in advance!
What type and class of micro SD card are you using? I always have used emmc to boot, but it seems that a Sandisk Class 4 seems to be the recommended choice when attempting to boot from it. I will start this reply off stating that I am rather noobish.
I've seen evidence that the boot sequence has been modified by B&N to kill this procedure. I am in the process of doing the same with my Nook Color BNTV250a. I think we may have to over-write the emmc rather than use the microSD if possible. I really don't know why they care so much. We buy their product, and we want to make it more dynamic...

Have the same issue. I am unable to boot NC 1.4.3 from the SD card? Did anyone has any further instructions on how to achieve this or any alternate solution.
Booting with sd on 1.4.3
I am having the same problem. I have tried a few different ways with no results. Anyone have any sucess yet?
this works for me
I'm new and I just installed CM10 on my tablet this weekend.
I had the same SD card issue.
Short answer for me is -- make the partition size of the SD card small in additional to the boot and lba flags settings and it worked.
I use 100-150 MB. Tried 300 MB and it failed.
I used an old 2G (class 1?) SD and a 16GB class 2 Sandisk, both behaved the same.
Nook Tablet had 1.4.3 installed and is about 9 months old.
To get my 1.4.3 Tablet to boot from sd I hold down the "n" when powering on. I let go of it before things really start going on on the screen. (5 seconds? I haven't timed it)
I have done all sorts of things from sd (rooting, repartioning, unrooting...). Some went well , some didn't at first, but thankfully there are guides here to get you back to where you started...
I am right now running CM10 from an sd card and it's performing amazingly well. You could always try that for a while! An almost fool proof guide here http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/ You don't have to mess with setting up partitions or anything. It's all done for you! Download, burn (and if you want to, espand one of teh partitions to fill up the card), pop it in and go!

If your NT is like mine, it will:
only boot from SD from a power-off state and upon insertion of a powered-USB cable
always boot into stock ROM if it's powered up via the power button
always reboot into stock ROM (even when tethered with a powered-USB cable)
If it does not boot from SD from a power-off state and upon insertion of a powered-USB cable, e.g.,
it gets stuck on a black screen then eventually boots into stock ROM, or
it boots straight into stock ROM without "hesitation"
then there is something wrong with the content and/or format of SDcard 1st partition, in which case check to make sure that 1st (FAT32) partition has LBA flag set and is set to active, and that the MLO and u-boot.bin are not corrupted (at least have the correct size in bytes) in the file copying to SD. I also found it helps to first copy the MLO and u-boot files then the rest of the files, since MLO and u-boot are to be loaded first, and it appears that OMAP only scans the first few entries of the partition-table to look for these two files.

I thought this was going to be rather straight forward, but I'm starting to curse technology. I tried making the bootable microSD card on a new 32gig class 4 Sandisk to no avail. I formatted it after to start from scratch, and now it cannot be detected. I haven't done anything really like this before, so I'm wondering if I should even bother risking the 8 gig card I use for music. I have the Nook Color BNTV250A as well.

What process did you use to make the bootable SDcard?
Can your PC/Laptop detect the card?
Have you tried using a disk partition tool like "MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition" to see what's on the card?
I've seen multiple references to Nook Color and BNTV250A in the same sentence, but I believe that model number belongs exclusively to the Nook Tablet. I have an 8GB Nook Tablet with 1.4.3(pre-installed). I went through a lot of hassle with the SD card as well and what worked for me was getting the smallest size SD card I could find. I used a 2GB class 4 card. That worked well for me. On the boot process(from a powered down state with the SD card inserted) I started out by pressing and holding the "n" button and then pressing and holding the power button. I didn't release either until I saw the brown box on the screen so you might be releasing one of the buttons too early. Additionally I did not have a USB cable attached to my Nook during the whole process and it didn't affect the install in anyway. What I've seen with the USB cable attached is that a delayed power-on process is initiated once the cable is inserted. Maybe this defeats the "button press" sequence.

Use this SD formatter bro. It should fix your card and get it back to normal! : )

Hey guys.
I am somewhat a noob. I bought a brand new 8gb nook color from wallmart on black friday. I heard about how you can put CM onto the sd card and boot from that without altering the device itself. I have tried for HOURS to do this. I have looked up COUNTLESS walk throughs and done everything they say, done alternations, and used different cards ranging from 2gb sandisk (class 1?) to 32 gb sandisk this is a class 4. I've used winimage and burned the image to the card, then dragged over cyanogenmod and done this task in countless different ways. Every time I shut down the nook, put in the card, then re-boot, the nook does NOT boot from the card. It boots normal, then I can actually browse the card after it boots up. I have done it EXACTLY how it says here and read tutorials so its not a question of whether or not I have followed standard proceedure. My firmware version is 1.4.3. Ive searched online to this and to no avail. My sister bought the exact same one at the exact same time and it does not boot the sd either. I have done about 8 straight hours of research on this guys, so I'm no pro but I have a basic understanding of how it works now. My questions are this:
1: Did Barns and Noble put restrictions on the newest nook color or on the newest software version? And if so is there a way around this?
and
2: If NOT, is there an alternate way/installation onto the card that I can do (such as an image pre loaded with CM etc.) that I might be able to try instead of the conventional way?
Thanks guys! Sorry for the uber long post : S
OK so I barely got a nook and I been going through the forums. So just to get this right. When you do root you basically root the tablet and are able to installed google apps. Then when you put cm10 files and partition the SD card you are basically booting from the SD card and if you were to take it out you boot back to BN right? And from what I have read there has been no flashing so far to internal memory am I right? Any answers would be appreciate thanks

You have a lot more reading to do. Installation of CM 10 is mostly done to internal or EMMC. There is one SD card version available from succulent. If you use the SD card version then yes you keep the stock nook os. From an off state power on takes you to cm10 if you then choose a reboot it will go to nook os. Power off then power on takes you back to cm 10.

There are a large number of NTs that will only boot from the SD card when the NT is powered off and then plugged in to the charger or USB to power on. Just turning it on by using the power button doesn't boot from the SD card.
Sent from my NT running Kuzma's CM10.1
That seems to mostly be, in my opinion based on the reading i have done, an issue with the type of SD card being used. I have 2 16gb NT's that have NEVER needed to be plugged in to boot. It is a known fact that the tablet is extremely temperamental about the card it likes.

Yeah that make sense. I used to have att tilt 2 with mobile windows. And when android came along we will first boot to mobile windows and then boot into android with the SD card. I thought it would be a similiar process.

Sent from my GT-P3113 using xda app-developers app
I use Sandisc or Kingston, class 4 seems to be the best choice but personally use Kingston 8gb class 10 cards in both of my NT's. I have tried 1, 2, 4, and 8 GB cards of various classes. I have run different cwm versions and CM 7 and 10 from them without ever inserting my charge cable. I have noticed the bigger the card the more you need to pay attention to boot, system, and data partition sizing.

You're just very lucky with your two NTs, the problem has nothing do with the SD card type.
Yes, card brand/class doesn't effect if it boots with or without charger. Its just that some do, but it seems a larger number don't. Mine would only boot with the charger, it got annoying so I started installing ROMs internally.

Perhaps. However I have a hard time believing that a production environment varies so widely that, from one NT to the next, things are vastly different. Or have they developed some sort of AI that prevents them from working? Both situations are highly doubtful.
The only non-constant is the SD card. From all the posts on xda asking how to make one it's no wonder there are so many fingers pointing at the NT being at fault. Then that's followed by 10 questions that they still can't get it to work, what files do i need to add, please someone hold my hand I can't/won't follow the clearly written instructions, can I buy it, etc most people blame that on the NT.
Now I'm not saying all that fail to work are user error. I am saying that SD cards are notorious for being less than reliable.

Assuming that the "boot" SD card has a properly formatted boot partition (FAT32 + LBA and Active flags set) containing the proper set of boot files (MLO, u-boot.bin, flashing_boot.img and/or boot.img and/or recovery.img), every NT (including those perfect NTs which can boot off SD using a power-on button) will boot off SD with a powered-USB insertion. On the other hand, there are many "imperfect" NTs out there which can only boot off SD when tethered with a powered USB, but your post will mislead their owners into thinking the problem is with their SD card and wasting their money trying different SD cards to no avail.

I gotta agree with SlowCobra. I have a hand full of SD cards and my NT will refuse to boot from a couple of them. It may be possible for there to be variation from NT to NT, but too much evidence points to the SD card.
To OP, Sandisk class 4 is probably the most recommended card between the NT and NC forums.

i have read several threads. Installe Ubuntu on a laptop and have come to the conclusion.........I have no business rooting, or anything i hav tried several metods to try and restore my 16gb nt and have been unsuccesful. is there any body out there willing to try and restore it for me. i will pay all shipping and will send it with my 8gb class 10 card. I just want it restored to cm7 or something functional HELL even stock would be great at this point. I do not have the skills to do it myself. It has been bricked for over a month now. This was a device used by all of my family members and now they are all upset with me for ruining it. Will B&N take it back and do a restore? anything ANYTHING PLEASE HELP!
Can't you just start by telling us what you have tried?
Have you for example tried the repart.img card already? If so, what happened?
Edit: I checked you previous posts and see that you tried to get Adam's method going.
Before going through the trouble of sending the Tablet around, try the repart.img
http://raywaldo.com/2012/06/how-to-un-brick-a-nook-tablet-8gb-or-16gb/
In short
1. Download, extract zip and save the repart.img in the same folder as you keep your Winimage
2. Open Winimage from within that folder. (Do not "install" and run, just open from the folder!)
3. Choose the "repart.img"
4. Burn it to the card
5. Boot to the card (inserted in Tablet)and wait for green checkmark
6. Turn off, remove card and Tablet will reboot automatically.
If green checkmark doesn't appear after a few minutes and a red cross appears instead, then you're in trouble and nee to try soimething else. But let's hope it deosn't come to that!
o.k.
Thank You! i have followed these instructions. i even started out with a new 8GB SanDisk microSD and a new usb card reader. i was able to successfully create the card. My 16GB NT does boot to the restore screen but I do have the red x in the corner the whole time. When it finishes, i get a the device will shut down in 5 sec. I have tried the re-boot without the card as well as booting with the power button and the cable. i am waiting for a fresh download of adam's file to try that agin. If that does not work I will move onto celtic's instructions.
FINALLY!
Alright! I have returned to stock. courtesy of the AdamOutlerUbuntuTotalReFlash. The problem is the touch screen doesn't work. I will be attempting to restore to a previous cm back up from here. I owe more than thanks to so many people here. asawi, AdamOutler, Albert Wertz, Celtic, indirect. and all who helped. them. I have learned a bit in a minute and have a long way to go. My 16 GB NT isn't fully restored but, it's closer today than 4 -5 weeks ago!
Woohoo!! And I see you already know how to fix the touch. I'm sure you'll do fine, and I hope you come back and let us know about your success!!
not quite
i am pretty happy with my success so far. and it is all due to this forum. I haven't figured out how to fix the touch yet. I have tried to flash a few different things but no success yet.
Have you tried just running CM10 from sd card? I don't know if you can do that and restore original touch firmware, but it's worth a try!
The Touchscreen app is included, so it "should" work...
Here's a link to and easy-peasy versio:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
Download (first download under "Download", ending with SDC-IMG.RAR), extract and put img-file in your Winimage folder, burn to card, pop into Tablet and boot into sd card.
Open the Touch firmware app and go back to original.
Remove card and rebbot into stock and hopefully all is well now!
Since you don't actually plan to run the Tablet that way you don't have to expand the user partition on the card, just run it as it is!
Edit: FWIW, I went and tried to flash touch formware while running CM10 from sd-card, and it seems to work fine. I then took the card out a and rebooted to my "regular" (internal) CM10 and reflashed the touch firmware back to what it was.
(I have no need for 10 touch right now, so I keep it in original until I do),
So you really should be good to go with Succulent's (Iamafanof) ready-made CM10 (or CM10.1) card images!

I think what I am going to try is re-create and boot from the the AdamOutlerCard and see if that clears up the problem. The nook doesn't seem to recognize the sd card or the format? and will not boot to or from the sd card (CWM) . and then I will move on to Succulent's http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/...r-nook-tablet/ . I really appreciate the advice and all the help.

At what stage of the recovery did you get this error message, e.g., during the process of initial sign-in to B&N?
o.k. I have achieved boot to SD card using sucullent's iamafanof cm10 image as instructed by asawi. my next goal will be researching and flashing the internals again. i suspect my initial problem resulted from having both cwm and cyanoboot resulting in the two arguing for permissions and rights. Additionally flashing the 10 touch which led to an unresponsive screen, which led me too trying to clear the "wrong" boot or mount and leaving me with only the cwm boot. patience!, clear thinking and help from all of you here got this device back in working order. Again I am extremely grateful for all the help!

Yes! Touch is working. I have not completed the registration for B&N yet. It seems that the updates that they push make it more challenging to root and / or flash to internal. I am just running CM off of an 8GB Class 10 micro SD. I don't want to do the B&N registration yet because I haven't 100% decided to flash to internal. Can the updates still be pushed even thogh I haven't registered? I am considering to keep running of an SD and get a 32GB class 6 card to do that. I would like to have the internal flashed because well let's face it the NT really isn't much to talk about until you. Unlock it's true potential. Question this process which I have followed here the repart and return to stock but running CM off the SD is that considered root?
I'm currently running CM 10.1 from an SD card and it does the same thing as internal boot. All information stored on the SD card with root privileges.
Sv: [Q] PLEASE HELP I GIVE UP and throw myself at the mercy of this community
I can't see any reason not to register your device if possible. You can block updates even if you're running stock as long as you're rooted.
It's more convenient running from internal than from SD, but I can't say I noticed much improvement in performance. Stick to class 4 unless you already have the class 6 lying around.
Be prepared that there might be problems registering after running the Ubuntu restore due to serial number possibly having been wiped.
O.K.

Alrighty then. I guess I will stick with just running off the SD card then. If I can't register then I will probably flash to internal. just curious why stick with class 4? Does the class 4 just run better or more compatible with the NT? How can I can confirm root?
SanDisk class 4 is the SD card most often recomended för NT. Runs fast and well and even devices that are fussy boot easily from it. The way data needs to be read for this kind of use isn't any faster on a higher class.

Is it possible or realistic that I can run a different SD card for different people using the tablet? i.e. using an 8 gig card with games and such for my kids to use. another card for my wife and then a card for myself. My fear is that the kids will eject the card or just not really know what they're doing and do something accidentally? (They are kids after all). My wife doesn't like the fact that I keep changing the configurations. Just overall giving everybody the ability to have the apps and configuration they want without encroaching on somebody else's preferences and hogging up all the space available on the card.

Yes that is possible. Just write the SDC version from iamafanof's page onto separate SD card. Recommended to use at least an 8GB Speed 4 microSD.
The other option is to use the profiles/users feature. It might be only CM10.1 builds that have the User capability. You can set up different accounts for yourself, your kids and your wife.

I extracted the zip which contained win32diskwhatever and the image file i used win32 in admin mode to write the image and create the partition on the sd card. im currently abandoning that route though and am just going to try breaking down and flashing CM10.1 on it. i saw a post where you had stated that that was an old way so im going to try something newer. i have all the files downloaded and have built the partitions using mini tool partition manager im copying them over now but i think it will be tomorrow before i try to flash ill let you know if it works, and just to be clear when i flash the CM10 on the sd card i can remove it and the NT will still boot CM10?

If you flash onto and run CM off an SD card (e.g., as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36685310&postcount=1), that CM10 SD card has to stay in the SD card slot in order for your NT to run CM10.
If you want to be able to run CM10 without an SD card you'd have to flash CM10 internally on EMMC (e.g., see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43326042&postcount=123) to replace whatever ROM (stock or otherwise) you currently have.
Note thatSD-based installation and EMMC-based installation use different versions of ROM zip files which are not interchangeable, so make sure you pick the right version.

ok i tried using the premade image and putting it on the sd card to boot from. i made sure card was flagged as primary active 0x0C LBA and it was set to boot( if that makes any sense, been up too long lol ) that didnt work. so i tried to build the card my self reading through several times and double checking as i went. still nothing when i try to boot up with the usb cable. i have been using the stock cable could that be a problem? this is what i came up with when the NT booted normal (attachment below) can you tell did i do something wrong? would it be easier to throw CM onto the eMMC? if so can you link me to a version of CM that would work on the NT 8GB? thanks in advance!
Personally, I had trouble booting & running SD cards. I'm convinced it wasn't hardware but my noobness! Since then I've always loaded only to emmc. I also had trouble going directly & straight to CM10 roms from the B&N 1.4whatever OS.
So, looking for a recovery + rom that matched, I used Indirect's app to get cwm 5, then had no trouble loading a CM9 rom (all to emmc). Once CM9 was up & running good, I used Goo Manager to load an updated TWRP recovery suitable for CM10, then Cm10.1, etc. That's what worked for me & to this day I see no need to boot from SD's. Just me tho.

If booting of a pre-made image does not work, there might be a flaw with your NT that precludes it from booting off SD card, and if this is true I am not aware of any way to root or flash stock ROM onto emmc if your NT is currently running stock.

It's indeed true that there really doesn't seem to be anyone not being able to get their NT to boot from sd, provided they follow suggestions. So I repeat the questions I asked in your own topic (and please, try to stay within one thread to maximize the chance of getting this sorted!):
1. Are you 100% you are dealing with a Tablet and not a Color? (Model no fr Tablet 8GB is 250A)
2. Are you using a SanDisk class 4 sd card? (And burn it according to instructions)
3. Have you tried turning the device off, inserting the card and then insert USB cable connected to power (not computer!)

Another thing to try is using a different SD card reader/writer.

I've been having problems with my 8gb tablet as well. I have tried all three of your suggestions above. Is there any way to set the 8gb tablet back to a later version like 1.4.0? I've only seen resets for the 16gb.

And where can I find that?

ok through a series of unfortunate events and through no fault of my own i now no longer have a NT but i do have a nook color now. for those of you wondering i DID have a tab but the screen ended up mysteriously shattering. wife was trying to be nice and ordered me what she believed to be a tablet but a color shipped instead. still trying to decide if i want to do anything with that but thats for a different thread. so i still dont know what happened the tab wouldnt boot CM10 before it broke ( or after either lol ) but i pulled the sd out and tried it again in my wifes tab using the wall charger to jumpstart it and it booted CM right up. so i guess i just got the crap draw out of the nooks we bought at the exact same time. still trying to figure out how i can pin this on best buy for selling me a faulty device lol, but i just wanted to say thanks for everyones help and feedback. when i threw the sd into my wifes tab it loaded CWM and CM10 just fine. ordered her a class 6 san disk sd to put in it to see if that helps with some of the lag issues.:good:
Ok, so I'd like to piggyback off this before starting my own thread. I have a bunch of Nook Colors that I have no problem booting off of SD cards for my kids. Now the 8gb Tablet is proving much harder for me. I've redone the SD card method 4x by two different methods and I keep getting the same result: It boots up fine, allows me to create the google account and even dowload apps. However, out of nowhere it will reboot and then I am stuck on the CM10 boot screen that just loops forever. I am repartioning a 16 GB card, making it active, windisk img the zip file to the card fine.... Does my symptom sound specific of something? Let me know. Thanks!

I encountered this same problem for the first time yesterday when I tried out a CM10.2 SD build.
If you are using 10.2 you might want to go back to using 10.1 for a while longer.
Yeah, but what if I'm on CM 10.1? I used one build from June (2x) then one from Aug (2x) and now have the same symptoms. This does not sound indicative of something specific? Like aren't some 8gb tablets troublesome from SD? Or is this a user error still of some sort?
