Today I obtained a XDA Mini S. I plugged it in with the charger they supplied with it and it seems dead, no charging light on the front. I'd been told it did power up.
When I checked, the charger is 5.2v but the battery is rated at 3.7v. I thought it might be down to this but I looked at my current Android phone and it is the same situation.
The charger has a standard mini-USB connector, the Mini S having a bespoke-shaped connector. I wasn't too worried about this as it was the same for my Touch Diamond when I had that a couple of years ago. The charger works, I tested it on another appliance
So what could be the problem? Dead battery? Dead phone? User error?
hi there, unfortunately I went through the same. Basically it's constantly discharging at moment. looks like theres a issue with some that don't keep charge in the lithium battery, it goes beyond a certain level and Bye bye Wizard.
I'm looking to upgrade my Wizard to latest rom and OS if I can, then I think this issue should be overcome. But for the moment, make sure you're charging with a decent ampage charger, something 1 Amp or over as the device can draw more and will eventually kill the battery.
Reg'rds.

Did anyone try to use HOX+ in car as navigation? I have quite strong charger in car made for iPad (2.1A rated USB) and it is not able to charge phone when it is running navigation (Sygic, but it doesnt matter). It seems to me, that charging current is too low to charge battery and also power phone, which is actively used. Tried to repeat at home, again big Apple USB charger from iPad rated 2.1A and while I was actively using phone (browsing etc), charger was able to get 1% of battery charged per 15-20 minutes. Which is too long.
Phone is getting warm or even hot while using CPU actively (Chrome is able to run all 4 cores while rendering page) and maybe there is some protection to avoid HOX+ getting too hot while charging? Or maybe internal logic just doesnt take more juice from charger when phone is charging and being actively used (to power CPU/GPU and also charge battery)? Anyway result is that with intensive CPU/GPU apps like navigation, I cant charge phone fast enough and it is actually discharging! No matter how strong or good your charger is, phone takes constant current and sometimes its just not enoug...
Anyone got similar problems?
The problem is that you shouldn't use chargers meant for other electronic devices.
How is it with the charger supplied with the X+?
Bbattery Monitor Widget is good to track charge/discharge value.
I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary, even using the phone while it is charging.

And what is the difference between chargers with USB ports? I could understand that using cheap noname charger from China could be problem, but I'm using branded from Apple, which is known to be really well made. And it is providing 5V and up to 2.1A of current.
Anyway cant use original because I bought phone in UK and they have some ugly shaped power plugs unlike rest of Europe
...but it ain't working, obviously. A power adapter is like a couple of €s, and @amazon original charger are around 7 €

I've used both an OEM US charger and the UK charger with an adapter with the OEM cable and both have done fine. It does take longer to charge while using it, but that's no surprise.
The Apple charger should do better.
Simply put, the device reduces charge rate if the device gets too warm. I don't know if this is happening but it's something to keep in mind.
I had this issue also when i was using the device. Charging was stuck at 99% and did not change anymore.

Well, you probably can't top the battery while charging because the phone is drawing more current than what the charging circuit (internal to the phone) is able to deliver to the battery (while charging).
Been digging in this problem a little bit more and found strange pattern. Since I cant use original charger (UK version doesnt fit my outlet), I have to charge with Apple ones. I have one big for iPad3 (strong marked as 2.1A), one small one with 1A and one small one chinese copy from DX (also 1A). When I try to charge phone with first two, it just charge like USB (settings>power and there you can see type of chargin on the top of screen). When I use chinese copy, it charges like proper AC adapter, quite fast. But after while, touch screen is messed up and it is almost impossible to control my phone. It seems like some static electricity build up or something like this messing with toucscreen mechanism. It gets fine few seconds after removing phone from charger.
Tried different cables, have 3 types at home. Original cca 1m long, only chinese charger woks in AC mode. Then I have extra short for drive, same behavior like original and two long ones (2m), chinese from DX but well made with quite thick cable and with this even chinese sometimes charge like USB, but sometimes it connects like AC.
Always thought that Apple chargers are good and used them to charge other gadgets, never had any similar problems. Seems that One X+ is quite picky with chargers, anyone can verify if it is just my piece?
When plugged in, the charger included with my Optimus G buzzes. Audibly. It's pretty loud. At first I thought a fly was in my room, then I realized it was coming from my charger.
If I unplug it, it keeps buzzing for about ten seconds.
I have a Nexus 7 charger and a Atrix 2 charger. Neither have the same specifications as the buzzing LG charger. The N7 outputs 2 amps, the Atrix outputs 0.85 amps, the LG outputs 1 amp.
So... is it safer to a) use the buzzing charger or b) use a non-buzzing charger, but one that outputs a higher/lower current than the included charger?
I'm now afraid to charge my phone.
Anyone else having a problem where the charger buzzes?
Thanks.
UPDATE so apparently some googling tells me that it IS okay to use other chargers AS LONG as the voltages are the same. Amps can vary; even if the charger is rated for more amps, the device will only take as much as it needs, and if the amps are lower than the device specifications, it will just charge more slowly.
So my N7 charger has the same voltage but higher amps, so I'm just using that until LG sends me a non-buzzing charger (if they ever return my request)
If any of this information about volts/amps is wrong, someone let me know. But it seems right according to my limited knowledge of physics.

Never seen that before. Had a lot of phones with a lot of chargers and never heard a buzz, I'd get a new one just to be safe...but I tend to be super cautious
Weird, my charger (that I got with the OG) buzzes as well. I've been using since I got it and it hasn't exploded....yet.

Interesting... so it's not an isolated issue. My phone is four days old, which is why it's frightening me. I think I'm just gonna submit a replacement request, and keep using the buzzing one until that one arrives (assuming it's granted and I don't have to deal with any bull from LG). If it's a common thing for the charger to buzz and yet no one is complaining about an exploding battery... it's probably safe.
But I'll request a replacement just to be safe.
My htc inspire charger has always buzzed when plugged in to the wall but not charging the phone. My guess is it is a function of the transformers magnetic field and some metal part in the charger.
My charger buzzes too, when is plugged in and for a few seconds after like you described. I've been using it since launch day on this phone with no issues. The buzz has not gotten any louder or anything over the past few months so I wouldn't worry about it.
Running SnowJB
Switching power supplies like our chargers sometimes do buzz because of the way they work, and it may or may not be an issue. Usually it's an inductor vibrating, and it may last as long as you need it to, or the vibration may cause eventual failure), but since yours is still under warranty I'd definitely replace it.
Using any other USB charger will not be dangerous or bad for your phone since the voltage is standard. If it's rated for a higher current, great - the phone will only draw as much as it is designed to, so you can't damage anything that way. Battery monitor widget appears to tell me that it only charges with about 800mA of current (that is net; the phone is still using some additional current to operate), so assuming the correct current is being reported, it doesn't appear that there's any benefit from using a charger that can supply more than 1A. Unless it can draw more quickly when charged with power off -- I don't have any good way to check this.
On the other side, while you can use a charger that's only rated for 500mA, which is the old USB standard current, the phone will charge more slowly and you'll probably get the warning saying so. It may not actually even supply enough current to charge the phone while you're using it in that case. So while you'll get by in a pinch for an overnight charge with one of those, it's well worth investing a couple of bucks in a higher-rated one.
I normally use my kindle fire charger which is rated for 1.9A (and the Fire can draw that much) or my New Trent battery pack which is rated for 2.1. My LG charger stays at work and doesn't get much use. I'm going to eventually buy another charger for home and I'll be looking for one rated for 2A or so.
Beeping
My charger is beeping after the battery is full. Its very very quiet but I hear a rhythmic beeping.
Hello Seniors,
I have Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300) international version and as my charger got damaged, I was using existing Nokia Micro USB charger with output of 5V & 1.2 Amp.
Samsung's original charger has got specifications of 5V & 1 Amp.
When I read about using higher current charger, many places it was mentioned that phone will charge faster. So I was ok to use this charger.
I can see that charging has become faster but the problem is when the phone is charging the screen do not respond to touch correctly.
Once I remove the charger it becomes normal.
So wanted to check if using this charger is there possibility of damaging the phone? And What is the reason that screen do not respond correctly for Nokia charger?
Looking forward for your expert advise....
Regards,
Anoop.

Hi, I had a very similar issue with my old Atrix 2. I too was using a higher current charger because I didn't have the original fitting for my outlets. I don't think the phone took any damage but the screen would sometimes not respond or most of the time just do weird **** when touched...
The 'charging' bit is built into the phone, the charger just supplies a constant voltage up to a maximum rated current. If you use a charger with an insufficient current rating the charge period is extended, like if you plug usb into your pc.
Using a 1A (or higher, makes no difference) rated charger will enable your phone to charge the battery at maximum rate, as long as the usb connector fits you can't go wrong.
Problems will occur if you use a cheap charger, or faulty one where a poor earth can mess with the touch screen. Throw it away and get the older type Samsung (one piece including lead) which are much better quality than the newer three piece ones.
Thanks Boomboomer for your input regarding this issue.
But one thing which I want to point out is, the Nokia Charger which i am using has got no earthing pin at all. It is just a plastic connector given at the place of earth pin. So technically there is no earthing. My samsung charger also did not have earthing pin it has only 2 pins (Indian Connector Style)
So I am not sure if that(Earthing) will be impacting in any way...
Please correct me if I am wrong...
No impact
Your capacitive screen relies on your finger changing the minuscule voltages within the screen, the faulty charger (or lead) interferes with these voltages due to poor shielding (the 'earth' of the usb lead). The charger needs no mains earth connection, but the usb connector shield has to have a good connection to the 'zero' point of the electronics inside the charger.
Try another good charger, or lead, and the problem will vanish.
Not to worry at all, you can even charge with the 2A Galaxy Tab charger. Just do not use black market chargers

My tablet works fine with wall charger but does not charge the battery. The battery remains at 0% at all time. The tablet used to work as it should in the first week. Then suddenly the battery goes flat 0% and refuse to charge. From posts in various forums, the cause could be loose battery connections or under performing wall charger.
I cracked open the tablet and all its innards seems to be buttoned down tight. No loose connections or loose soldering. The battery wires connecting to the board seems to be fine and fitted tightly.
I used a multimeter to test the DC wall charger. Specs of the wall charger are Output: 5V 3.0A Input: 100-240V 50/60Hz 0.5A. I am not sure how to read the meter but I thought it showed 4.8v instead of at least 5.0v? Could this be the reason why my battery won't charge?
Can anyone with experience give some thoughts? Many thanks.

Same / similar problem
HI ,
I noticed your post a weeks back and have been waiting for some one to post a solution.
I too have a malfunctioning Captain and have like you pulled it apart, installed new software and scanned the net for months hoping for a solution.
I purchased a new 5V3A charger but that is barely getting the battery icon on.
I have read somewhere that a min. of 12V3A is required to charge the battery. Could you confirm?
I guess the easiest thing is to ask if you could post your solution.
Any advice is welcome and appreciated.
Thanks..

I posted the solution at slatedroid. I did not get any response from this forum so did not post the solution here. BTW, there is nothing wrong with my wall charger.

thankyou for that..
I will try when I get home.
Thanks again..
I own 2 Note 2's the first one burnt while charging, it still works., but obviously does not charge anymore.
I replaced it with another one which also got very hot while in charge and had an electrical butning smell, but i got to it quicker and it is still in working order and able to charge, alrhough very slowly ie 5% an hour.
Is this a common fault with Note 2's ?
Also the battery will deplete in less than 4 hours from full charge just on standby using stock rom.
Am i unlucky or am i doing something to kill my phone.
Any opinions or advice greatfully received
No, this is not normal so perhaps it's a problem with the phone. To rule out the charger and USB cable, you might want to swap those, too, and retest.
I thought so. How widespread is this ?
I have 2 that have done the same thing.
I have tried different chargers and most of them dont work with my 2nd RMN2
I have not heard of this problem before. Either there is a problem with the phone itself, or (more likely, since more than one phone is affected) something is not right with your electricity mains supply. Do you have a surge protector/voltage regulator device/adapter?
Almost every charger should work maybe the output of the other charger were too low (and device uses up more than charged)
I got myself another charger (from Samsung with 5V 2A) because my old charger burnt out >_<
