CWR in 2.2 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright. I'm new to the vibrant community so my apologies in advance for not knowing what I'm doing. I just rooted and I have su access and I have CWR installed. I however can't get the rom manager custom recovery to load when I reboot. What do I need to do? I'm running the 2.2 update from T-Mobile. A simpleton's guide would be nice but I'm just looking for any help I can get. Thanks

Hold down both the up & down volume controls, then hold the power button down until you see the vibrant screen. That should do it.

Let me rephrase that, keep holding the up & down volume controls until you see cwr come up. Your only releasing the power button when you see the vibrant screen. Hope that helps.

Already tried that. It boots into android recovery...not clockwork. Its android recovery version 3e if that helps any

You need the modded 3e recovery in the dev section for cwr

Select reinstall packeges a few times, and/or select reboot into cwr from rom manager

i tried using the modded 3e recovery and i still don't know what I did wrong...should i just look for a way to downgrade to 2.1 and try redoing this the easier way?

when your on recovery press reinstall packages
it will reboot to recovery again
click reinstall packages
now your in a green text recovery.
ta-daa?

Stupid question, but did you enter RM and select to flash a version of CWR? Once it flashes, can you enter CWR via RM?

Yes I did flash certain. I'm going to try again

Stock recovery starts instead of clockwork

Everything's been smooth so far in regards to my vibrant modification but I noticed something today that might cause problems in the future
Im running stock rom with kingxkernel 3 and ryans oclf
I can get into clockwork recovery through rom manager without a problem (that's how I've been doing it) but if I go into recovery mode using the hardware keys it brings me to the stock recovery..any suggestions? ??? I know in the very beginning I had to choose reinstall packages and then it showed up but I was afraid to do that again before asking in case it screws up my phone

clockwork recovery doesn't replace stock recovery on the vibrant.
If you manually enter recover, you have to do the "reinstall packages" part in the stock recovery which will then load the clockwork recovery.
Oh okay thanks for the reply!

Dont you still need the update.zip in there?

yes, you still need the clockworkmod recovery file (aka update.zip) in order to load clockworkmod recovery.

Recovery

So maybe its just me, but I'm not able to get into Recovery when trying to flash something. For example, flashing a better modem into Obsidian hasn't been working for me, or at least I haven't noticed. Nor have I been able to flash the Gingerbread keyboard without having to push it to the system using Root Explorer.
Is there a trick to getting into Recovery using Froyo, or is there somthing I'm doing wrong. I normally use ROM Manager to get into Recovery or even the options in the power menu and nothing works. Just the Samsung recovery mode.
Hold volume updown and push power button untill u see the vibrant screen then let go of power only and if your only getting the samsung recovery then reinstall package u might have to twice

Make sure update.zip for rom manager is in on internal sd and then reboot into recovery and reinstall packages if it goes back to stock recovery reinstall packages again then you should be in Cwr

[Q] Can't get to Clockwork Recovery

I tried searching the forum, but I couldn't find an answer. My phone works fine, not bricked or anything. The only thing is that it won't boot to clockwork recovery so I can't flash any ROMs or anything. I would have to use ODIN. In Clockwork app if I select "Reboot into clockwork recovery", it just goes to stock Vibrant recovery screen.
The ROM I'm currently on is Axura 2.0.5.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance
Did you make sure to flash cwr and select vibrant for the phone?
Also, did you click on reinstall packages when it brings you to stock recovery? Usually you have to install packages twice to get you there....

Yeah CWR is installed.
I haven't reinstalled packages though. Should I have anything on my SD card before I do it?
No, just reinstall. It might have you do it twice. after it should take you in cwr so you can flash whatever.

You have to select reinstall packages, and it will go to the blue recovery again, then press reinstall packages again and clockwork should boot up everytime.
So i just have to keep on reinstalling packages until cwm works?? I think i will lose my superuser etc.. What zip file do i have to put on my intrnal card?

Once u are rooted you done need update.zip for root
What if i already rooted my phone using super one click root on my froyo 2.2? Do I still have to update? By update.zip?

After you used super one click root, delete that update.zip file that it places in your internal memory.
Then download rom manager, click flash clockwork-mod recovery and it should say boot into the blue recovery. In there click reinstall packages, and if it takes yiu to the blue screen again, click reinstall packages one more time and you should boot into clockwork from now on.
Ok thank you master and slave one more question do I still have to install the unzip thing from my internal sd? Or not a any more?

Since you are on 2.2, you need the modified 3e recovery. Then you should be able to get into CWM.
Or you can just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 and Odin back to 2.1 and not have any issues updating your ROM.
Reading all the guides helps alot with these questions.

The method I was giving you was for 2.1
Its easier to root from 2.1.
But the thread above should help
Another route around 3e recovery is to use a Voodoo kernel, because those have CWM baked right in. I recommend this because for whatever reason I couldn't get modded 3e recovery working.

odin back to stock as people have said 2.1 is easier to root and then do as ur told with root and cwr!

how to ...

im wanting the slick rom JB and I cant find the post listing how....i found the where...
1.not the how?
2.Is "installing a custom firmware" the same as the ROM?
3.if No to question 2, whats the difference?
ok ima try to break this down for ya
1. Make sure you are rooted and have an unlocked bootloader, if not got to this thread and follow instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2006946
2. Once you have completed step 1, confirm that you have either cwm(clockworkmod) or TWRP(team win recovery project)
2a. Once recovery presence is confirmed, enter the recovery through the bootloader
2b. To enter the bootloader, while the phone is off hold the power button and the volume up button until the lg logo come on the
screen release once the bootloader loads, press the down volume button twice and then press the power button and then the
recovery will load.
2c. (for a quicker way download the quickboot app from the playstore and select recover from the in app menu)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot&hl=en
3. Once in the recovery, you'll need to wipe the cache and the dalvik cache, as well as factory reset the phone(recommended to do so) before flashing the ROM(custom firmware)
3a. Navigate either CWM or TWRP until you get to the install zip directories for each recovery, and then navigate the provided file
browser until you find the file you are flashing, once selected follow the on-screen prompts until the file has been sucessfully
flashed.
4. Reboot your device
5. PROFIT!!!!!!!!!

It generally doesn't matter.

What the differences then? Why other than opinion do some go with one and others go with the other version?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
it's a matter of preference.
I use TWRP myself because it backs up and restores a bit faster.
What app do you use?
