I am thinking of making a GUI Kitchen too, but can't promise anything for now ! =(
This is nothing special -- Just packed HTC ROM Image Editor, HV Edit & IMGFS from Dump into a package with some .BAT files to make cooking a basic WP7 Custom ROM easy
How to Cook?
Code:
1.Extract part04.bin from Data.zip of any flashable MAGLDR WP7 ROM for HTC HD2
2.Rename part04.bin to part04.nb and put it in the "1.ROM Image Editor" folder
3.Run "htcRIE.exe" & Select part04.nb
4.Select IMGFS in the Left Column, then click on any item in the right column & press "Ctrl+A" to slect All.
5.Now press the "Save Selectd Files" button on the top bar & save the files to the "3.IMGFS from Dump\dump" folder
5a.Again, Select IMGFS in the Left Column and press the "Save Selectd Files" button on the top bar & save the "imgfs.bin" file to the "3.IMGFS from Dump" folder
6.Once saved, goto "3.IMGFS from Dump\dump" & copy the "default.hv" & "user.hv" to the "2.HV Editor" folder
7.Now drag and drop "default.hv" & "user.hv" on "HVEdit.exe"
8.Delete "3.IMGFS from Dump\dump\default.hv" & "3.IMGFS from Dump\dump\user.hv" files
9.Two files will be creatd "default.hvm" & "user.hvm" respectively. Edit them as per your requirement to make Registry changes.
10.Once editing is done, again drag & drop the "default.hvm" and "user.hvm" onto the "HVEdit.exe"
11.Now "default.hv" & "user.hv" will be recreated. Cut & Paste them into "3.IMGFS from Dump\dump" folder & replace the old files.
12.Now run "start.bat" in the "3.IMGFS from Dump" folder
13.Cut and paste the imgfs-out.bin into the "1.ROM Image Editor" folder
14.Make a copy of part04.nb in the same folder & rename it to part04.bin
15.Run the "build.bat" in this folder
16.Now replace the part04.bin file in the "data.zip" with this new creatd part04.bin
17.Flash MAGLDR Rom as you normally would.
Enjoy !!
If you have any problems, share here dont PM me because as this is new so everyone must know problems & there solutions if there are any
Note: I or DFT Team or anyone else will not be responsible if this process or any ROM made using this process causes any kind of damage to your any device. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK !!
Thanks AnDim for great tools
thanks , downloading..........
Hey,
thank you very much for this little HowTo my friend!!

No sorry dude. I don't see where you're giving him credit or say thanks. Did you ask for his permission to repackage and distribute his tools?
Personally, I would also have felt offended. Andim's reaction is unfortunate, but a loss to the community.

Thanks Dan!! Can you point me in the correct direction as to which offset?
did anyone find this out? I want to change the Date on my custom Vogue ROM
Not much luck for me, either, but when cooking around with the shipped AT&T WM6.0 ROM, I was able to change the Version by simply editing the PROVXML file in OEMVersion.
The only way I found to change the ROM's Date was by hex-editing the completed .NBH file. This is not very elegant, and needs to be done after every build. Also, it only effects the ROM Date shown on the Settings->System->DeviceInfo screen. The danged calendar that pops up when you are first initializing the device does NOT obey the new date, which is a bit of a pain.
I've searched long and hard in many of the device forums, as well as a few other websites. I've tried some Kaiser tools, as well as some others. If any forum members really know how to do this on a Hermes, nobody is talking. Too bad.

GOT IT
OK, Done it in my latest 20270 ported to hermes XIP and SYS... After cooking before loading into the NBH. Hex edit the os-new.nb and search asci text (2007) The first two results will be the ones you change.. Change these dates to the rom dates you desire. and WHAMMO you have a rom with a current date.. ENJOY. and thanks to Abusalza in the hermes forum for his assistance with this.

It sounds like this achieves the same thing I did by hex-editing the resuting .NBH. I am curious ... does this method also change the initial date that comes up when initializing a new ROM ... just after the screen alignment? When I HexEdit the NBH file, the ROM's date is changed on the Device Info Screen, but the ROM initialization routine always starts with the calendar at 9/1/2007. What happens with your method?
-pvs
HexEdit .nbh file, search for the month (unicode) e.g. jul . Replace month
(3 letters) and date that follows.
First calendar screen and internal rom date will be updated this way.
you may edit also .provxml (e.g. oemversion provxlm) ...

Thanks for this, swtos, but this is what I've been doing. Unfortunately, it does not work (for the initialization calendar) on my cooked AT&T WM6 ROM. It DOES change the ROMDate in DeviceSettings, but it has no effect on that initial calendar.
Oh well,

Then you have to edit nk.exe\s000 ..
or Xip.bin (xip_out.bin)
Good Luck !

Thanks a lot, swtos. I already know I don't have the s000 module (already tried that method), but I guess I could possibly "reversmode" NK.EXE and go from there (never tried THAT).
I'll also have a look at XIP.bin/XIP_out.bin, and see what's up with that.
Thanks a lot!

Hmmm ... my ROM doesn't NEED this package, as it already has the auto TZ options ON as a default. But if you could post a link to the OEM package you're referring-to, I'd be very happy to take a look at it, and see if it exhibits this "side-effect" on my ROM. That would be great!
Thanks a lot,

Hi,
In this tutorial I'll try to explain how to cook for ours Genes. I'll try to be clear and i hope all of you can understand the necessary steps to acomplish this work.
For any doubts feel free to ask.
Index of steps:
1st step: How to Extract files from ROM to make a BASE ROM.
2nd step: How to build your first ROM
I thank all of the XDA for this work
and sorry for my bad english
How to Extract files from ROM to make a BASE ROM.
In this guide I not use any kitchen, only tools. This way is more easy to understand the whole process.
In this guide i'll use Chayn Diamond style ROM as an example but you can use any ROM that you like (The ROM must be unprotected).
Let's begin:
1 - Create a folder on your hd root (usualy C: ) called MOD_ROM and unpack the TOOLs folder inside it. Unpack Chayn and copy ruu_signed.nbh to MOD_ROM folder.
2 - Let's go extract the rom contents:
Type: (This will facilitate the work)
Code:
set path=C:\MOD_ROM\TOOLS
2.1 - Open a DOS prompt and navigate to MOD_FOLDER and type:
Code:
nbhextract ruu_signed.nbh
and wait it finish. This tool will extract all files inside a *.nbh file.
Now we have 2 files: 00_Extrom.nb and 01_OS.nb(We'll manipulate this file)
2.2 - Type:
Code:
imgfsfromnb 01_OS.nb imgfs.bin
This will extract imgfs.bin from os.nb. With imgfs.bin we can now dump the files inside rom.
2.3 - Type:
Code:
imgfstodump imgfs.bin
This will create a dump folder and store all files from rom inside it. This may take a while.
2.4 - Delete dump_MemoryMap.txt
2.5 - We have to run pkgtool now to create packages from these files
Code:
start "" /w pkgtool dump
2.6 - Now we have 2 folders inside dump: OEM and SYS. Sometimes pkgtool don't put packages in your right place so run this tool
Code:
pkg_cp
It'll put the packages in yours right places (if pkgtool left some). After this rename the dump folder to BASE_ROM and inside it create a folder called ROM. Should be this way: ROM(empty), OEM and SYS
3 - Dump and extract xip files
3.1 - Dumping xip
type:
Code:
msflshtool 01_OS.nb -d -p 1
It'll generate a 01_OS.nb.part1 file. Rename it to xip.bin
3.2 - Now create a folder called XIP inside MOD_ROM folder and type this
Code:
dumprom -5 -d xip xip.bin
This will extract xip files.
3.3 - Delete the dump folder and move XIP folder to ROM folder inside BASE_ROM.
Your BASE_ROM is now complete, ready for cooking.

Hi Addicted2xda,
If you remove the office you have around 3MB free to use as storage space.
About pkg_cp my antivirus not detect it as a virus. It should be a false positive.

Well Ramerson, if you allow, i would like to post a tut to cook using your kitchen the way i do it. Its a little quick and dirty way and your tut would always serve as a great tool for advance learners but i feel that you have shortage of time a little greater than me. So it would keep the our not-so-patient fellows a bit busy while you post your detailed tut
Let me know what do you think about this idea.

@ankit360 : May be for you dear, its very easy but not for most of our friends here. I too want to learn it the detailed way and thats why i am eagerly waiting for ramerson to post the full tut. I was saying to write a tut about the easy way. And by the way, your XIPs also miss cacheflt.dll and some other DLL files so using XIPPorter may be easy for you, but it definately does not produce complete XIP's. Cacheflt.dll can be used to gain good filesystem speeds and VanillaManila Ultimate uses it. I use the manual method of XIP porting for that. Anyways, If not many people call for it, i wont write it anyways. Its a hard task writing such long tuts

Hi Sumit,
Feel free to post your tutorial here. It will help many people and we'll have more ways to cook.
Btw in this weekend I'll post the second part: How to build your first rom
Sorry to all for the delay in posting the tutorial. My job is taking much of my time.
On srvhari's request for a minimal plugin for the Home screen, I found out a great, compact and very customizable plugin for the homescreen. It has fully customizable buttons (5 to be exact), you can change the icon and shortcut to whatever you want.
Find attached the cab file for this great plugin.
by default it opens HTC Action Menu and HTC Album using the first two buttons, but you can modify the two xml files to change what ever you want:
ql_skin_l.xml and ql_skin_p.xml (l for landscape and p for portrait).
@Mods: Hope this is not crack or something . If it is please remove the link and please please please don't ban me .
Its from HTC Sprint but works on Gene
Download from http://www.mediafire.com/file/4eijlnnkmtk/Sprint.rar
Alternately, download it from http://www.htcfreeware.com/HTC/categories/HTC-freeware.aspx
Find in the attachment an amazing black theme. Thank you P1Tater .
Please note that if you change theme, you need to re run the cab file to make the bars black again.
Modified xml files
Unzip the attachment and copy it to \Windows in your device, this will give you:
1. First Icon for Messeging.
2. Second Icon for File Explorer.
Regards.

When you install Quicklauncher, you will find two xml files in the windows directory, namely ql_skin_l.xml (for Portrait mode) and ql_skin_l.xml (for Landscape mode). These file contains details about the applications associated with the 5 buttons. Each line is similar to :
<APP1 x="0" y="0" w="64" h="45" img="ql_MSG.bmp" img_mask="ql_photos_mask.bmp" link=":MSINBOX"/>
Where
1. x= and y = is the position of the button, No need to change
2. w and h is the size of the button, No need to change
3. img= Important : Need to change it for your convenience, so that you can identify with the program associated, simply create a bmp file of 32x32 pixel size, copy it to \Windows folder specify the name here.
4. img_mask= same as No. 3.
5. link= MOST IMPORTANT: Specify the application it will (run within quotes), here :MSGINBOX means message inbox, :MSFEXPLORE means File Explorer, but you can specify any program you like.
Any way if you simply extract the zip file from my second post and copy all the files to windows directory, you will get first icon for messeging and second one for file explorer.
Hope it helps

novembre5 has rom´s in french. download l3v5y-TG01-Kitchen-200330 from forum.
make a aditional folder named BASE. put the ROM in and rename as TG01WP_5005000176.tsw. then push 1. dump.bat. after few minutes you become a new folder named SYS. here are all files includet. one of this namend tg01_regedit or so. Make a new folder in root named OEM. cut out tg01_regedit and put in OEM folder. in this folder you find cab´s and a .rgu file. for edit the .rgu take notepad2 (search on google). in the tg01_regedit folder you can put your prefered cab. the name of cabs one word without spaces. when you look in .rgu you can on buttom see, how format for writing a new cab. e.g. "cab47"="\\Windows\\commander.cab" bevore save the editing .rgu make this is not write protected. after save. push 2. build.bat. fter few minutes you become new.tsw ROM file. rename as TG01WP_00.tsw an flash. this is for the first lection

i don´t know if this also the name in french rom. this is a FOLDER in SYS folder.
open SYS folder and search for ffffffff-ffff-ffff-ffff-ffffffffffff.rgu, then look hers path. or search to *.cab, then you have the right folder.
but selfROMcooking is a big risk- i say only one= shortPinMethod

yes. dump my ROM, then you have the tg01_edit from my ROM/SYS folder.
Edit the ffffffff-ffff-ffff-ffff-ffffffffffff.rgu from tg01_edit folder.
for you interesst is the end of the ffffffff-ffff-ffff-ffff-ffffffffffff.rgu look like this
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TOSHIBA\AutoCabInstall]
"cab43"="\\Windows\\SystemFont.cab"
"cab44"="\\Windows\\taskmanager.cab"
"cab45"="\\Windows\\commander.cab"
"cab46"="\\Windows\\Arnookie.cab"
"cab47"="\\Windows\\csmi.cab"
"cab48"="\\Windows\\DGPanther.cab"
"cab49"="\\Windows\\DN.cab"
"cab50"="\\Windows\\action.cab"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TOSHIBA\AutoCabInstall]
"Reboot"=dword:15
all this cab are in tg01_edit folder. if you one cab not will
delete from folder and delete the entry from .rgu or put your cab to folder
e.g. Opera9_7.cab and make the entry
"cab51"="\\Windows\Opera9_7.cab"
then the tg01_edit folder copy to (you made) OEM folder on my or novembre french rom.
the kitchen with folder look like this:
BASE (put here a rom renamed as TG01WP_5005000176.tsw)
OEM (you made fhis folder) put here here tg01_edit folder
SYS (here files after dump)
TEMP

Hello web masters and developers,
I've got a noob question...
I've got Jusada's ICSunday Final ROM (all credits to Jusada, and of course I've got his permission to do moding), which I modified for my personal needs.
Until now I've added many options that missed in original release (so it's not barebone anymore) like live wallpapers, torch, RE, ScanMedia, battery drain fix and GPS fix, transparent status bar and modified Acheps CM theme (all credits to their developers, u can find the topics here in Ace forum) etc.
There is couple of things I currently cannot resolve and that drives me crazy.
When I make a fresh install of the ROM, it starts with default wallpaper (which I modified too). But since I often use my favorite livewallpaper, i really need it to be set by default from the system. Now, I've got Livewallpaperspicker.apk installed and working. I can put the livewallpaper's apk file in the /system/app and to be installed by default, but how to make it enabled by default instead of the static default_wallpaper.jpeg inside framework_res.apk?
Where in which file I should enable it bu default?
Thank you for your patience, and also excuse me for my bad english, and If I break the rules with this thread!
Regards!
P.S: Excuse me for the stupid thread title, I couldn't figure out a better one...
Obviously no one knows, or it's too difficult to explain for noobs like me... Sad... I search on Google but either I don't search with correct keyword or there are no such thread/topic/lesson...

The line should be without the space (glitch in XDA forums LOL) in com.android.wallpaper
<string name="default_wallpaper_component">com.android.wallpaper/.nexus.NexusWallpaper</string>
not the one u see in the post

Thanks for the reply mate, but it seems that there is no "value" folder inside my /res folder. Anyway I searched for strings.xml inside other folders in /res folder but... no success... I'll extract the ROM's package right now and will search inside all folders for strings.xml and will see if such a file exist... Thanks btn pressed for the reply and for the idea
P.S: I've found the file that contains keyword "default_wallpaper_component" in it. It's framework.odex. Now I've got to figure out first how to edit it (with notepad++ there are a bunch of unusable characters) and what exactly to write to enable my favorite_livewallpaper.apk by default. Because it's gonna be normal, pre-installed .apk file (not inside the LiveWallpapers.apk) and I don't know how to call it inside the string... Damned, this is gonna be harder than I thought But... I like to be hard, if there are good people that wont mind to teach me or tip me for the answer)) Thanks

As I said before, I need just an advise on how to do-that. I don't need someone to "serve it in golden plate" All I needed was a little hint and you gave it to me, that's why I thanked you. And as I said before, I searched Google and xda but with no success - obviously I didn't know how to "ask", wrong keyword etc.
After your hint I remembered that I read somewhere that not all folders are visible with win rar (for example) and they need to be decompiled in a special way. I searched again and found APKTool, now I'll install it (inside Windows folder, i read) and will begin to learn how-to.
That's the way to learn I think?
