[Q] How to Backup my Firmware/baseband, Help please - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can Someone please help me with this issue. I am planning to downgrade my baseband so i can install J's gingerbread rom. However before doing this i want to have a backup of my current baseband in case something goes wrong and i want to restore my previous baseband. It will be highly appreciated if someone can help me with this issue.
Moreover the baseband included in J's rom is it for some specific region, i am on AT&T and believe the frequency bands here are 1-2-3-8.
Thanks in advance.

this guide will help u in rooting ur phone
after that u have to install a custom recovery.....
http://androidadvices.com/root-install-custom-recovery-lg-optimus-p500-tutorial/2/
use this method to install clockworkmod recovery
One word of advice, don't rush. When you're flashing a rom for the first time, you've got to be careful. Read and reread all the instructions and understand everything about the process before starting.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA
And the most important take care with the baseband .....
Ok so i have Android 2.3.3 so i think my baseband is ok, so after rooting and doing that custom recovery what i do next?and when telling me put a few instructions in thnx!
Help???
So what do we do next after rooting and etc.?
man, don't forget to backup your NV, to do that, go into LGMDP, connect to your mobile, go into Tools, and press in NV Backup. I forgot this and my phone doesn't gave me band signal, so i had to return it to the LG assistance.
When do u backup ur NV?Before rooting or after rooting or after clockwork method thingy?...

Firstly, this is the questions form so no need to put silly titles like "A question please", we know its a question. Titles are supposed to be descriptive of the topic.
Second, Give more information on what you/he has done and what you want to achieve.
..I'll take it you mean "restore" not "backup". If yes then you simply boot into CWM and restore the backup your "brother" made. If he didnt make a CWM backup then obviously you cant restore it, You will need to do a fresh instal or a GB rom. If you need to do a fresh install dont ask, go and read.

if he has already installed 4.0.3 , then there is no way to backup 2.3.3
if not you have 2 choice,
1. backup all the settings, apps+ data via titanium backup
2. Root your device, enter cwm and make a full nandroid backup
+1 on balas post....
2.3.3

Thank you, but please if you 'cause i'm new here !, could you explain the second step ?
OOOOOh again confusion...
if he is currently on 2.3.3, He has to root and install CWM, this can be done just flashing a kernel (CF-root see my sig) from ODIN, then from CWM he can backup his complete ROM,
with Titanium backup from market he can backup all his applications and data.
gude for flashing from ODIN, getting Downloadmod, recovery mod are in my signature

well all the instructions were already there in stickies, any way
1. find the current rom version of 2.3.3
2. find the matching cf root from the below thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
3.flash the cf root via odin and now you will have cwm.
4. Reboot your phone , now you will have an app called cwm in you launcher.
5. enter the app and select reboot into clockworkmod.
6. make a backup
Non-English natives gonna non-English native.
Just find the ROM you want and flash it through CWM. Am I missing something?

Precautions to take before rooting/Custom Roms

I rooted my Galaxy Note 2 and used an app from the app market for backing up the EFS, the app crashed in the middle and I ended up losing the EFS. Nothing worked and I had to take it to the service centre (thankfully I could remove the flash counter and make the status to official so they did it within warranty.)
I have exchanged the phone with my sibling, I have the s3 now. The battery life on the official UK 4.3 version (since it wasn't out for India yet) sucks(any. I would like to try custom Roms.
Kindly link me to any existing thread(I Couldn't find one) if its there.
What all precautions should I take?
1)Backup the stock ROM(using Titanium Backup?)
2)Backup EFS(using?)
Thanks in advance

you can use the hc-KTool to backup the efs, is easy to use and free downloads from the play store. backup the stock rom is a custom recovery such as CWM, Philz, TWRP.

another precaution may be, install the correct kernel for rom you wear. clear that if you change custom kernel. but just these two precautions, especially with having the efs backup.

but EFS backup would require root? And the root method available is for 4.1.2
Rooting and Custom Roms were so much more fun on the sk17i

If you got the I9300 model with no sim lock- no problem.
Ps- notice that if your current build is below EMG4, than your file partition will be changed to EFSv2,
needs to be noticed if you'll try to go back to 4.1.2 afterwards

I think he can go back after flashing 4.3 ROM. I have done that.
Aashish, you can install any ROM as per your requirement if SIM is not locked with any SP.
But there is a chances of loosing IMEI. So please take backup. Search and download MG4 modem handy.

Yeah what you propose seems very straightforward BUT it would be advisable to do a full backup INCLUDING EFS, just check the EFS box in TWRP for instance, as it's not usually included in a backup by default.

Ah I get it now, in which case I would be tempted to go to an Indian 4.1.2 firmware through ODIN and the update through OTA if that's possible. That would reduce the chase of stuffing up your EFS by using an official Samsung update procedure.
