Ok Im pretty new to all this. I have a droid eris which i was easily able to root thanks to one click root. I have flashed the newest vanilla tazz, and noticed that my signal went from 3g to H i know what this means but wanted to know if any other roms have better data connectivity. I was thinking about flashing Eris lighting or Nonsensikal but the pics i see of them say 3g for data. is it really that big a difference. or is there a rom with the "best" data connectivity. basically i want to get the fastest wifi tether possible for gaming on x box 360 from my Htc eris.
Argh. Duplicate posts in multiple threads are going to make me go postal.
Srry thought I got rid of this one going to try again now

Kind of a newb but managed to root and flash newest vanilla tazz to my htc eris. I noticed that it came with H connectivity instead of 3g. HSDPA. Seems to work faster for wifi tethering x box 360 than when i had just stock rooted on 3g. So i was wondering which rom for the eris has the best data connectivity or would be the best for tethering and gaming on a console.
Tethering and gaming on a console is a bad idea.
And no, different ROM's probably won't effect 3G data all that much... if anything they might do something wrong but most of them wil give you the same.
The only thing that effects 3G data is your ISP, your radio, and the reciever in your phone.
Bad ideah why?
Is it because of the speeds that you say its not a good ideah? Its really my only way to game and all i want to know is how to get the fastest tether. And yes switching from stock to vanilla tazz improved my connnectivity. 3g to hsdpa is a difference maybe not a big one but it helped alot. There is way less noticeable lag. if there are any other ways to help make my tether faster thats what im looking for. thanks for any help. and for the quick reply .

Don't let the data icon fool you... its still 3g no matter how you look at it. The reason for the H is because it was ported from the Hero. It doesn't change anything.

Well ever since I flashed the rom gaming got a little less laggy on tether my movie download went fromapprox. 20-30kbps to 60-max160kbps. And I even did internet speed test and got 1.5-2.5 Mb higher so there is definatly a difference consistsntly not just guessing. If anybody out there knows any other ways to faster tether plz help. Thanks for any help and quick rrplys

I have a lot of tethering experience as it was my only internet from August until just a couple weeks ago. Every time I thought I found a rhyme or reason why my tethering was working much, much better, things would change again and it would revert to the old, works, but is hard to rely on consistently for computer levels of data transfer.
Sorry I don't have any specific advice for you at this time. In general, I liked CM6's (and I assume CM7's, too) native tethering as it connected a lot faster than other solutions. For a while I got great tethering performance, too, and then it was only on weekends I would get great performance. Eventually it was hit or miss, with a lot of misses.
I hope your solution keeps working well for you!
Somebody must know a way...lol plz help
Hello, sorry if this has been posted somewhere before but I could not find anything and the 84 page thread in the development section was simply to much to go through.
I recently put bamf stripped 2.1 on my thunderbolt, loved the rom but some problems with the gingerbread leak it was based on made it so that I can't really rely on it. Slow charging problems, voice mail notifications dont work, can't mount as usb drive, and other things.
So per a suggestion from someone on bamf's forums I'm trying out 1.8 that is supposed to have most of these issues fixed. While I haven't been able to test all of these issues yet I've already ran into a very important one that I would need fixed before going any further.
3G and 4G data connections are extremely unreliable. I haven't seen it go into 4G even though I'm in an area with 4G coverage at all, and it randomly drops 3G coverage completely, sometimes dropping only to 1X.
I've tried both MR1 radio and a radio flagged as Shipped and both experience this problem.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? There isn't really any reason for me to go through the trouble of setting up my preferences on this ROM if something as important as the data connection isn't working properly in it.
Thanks!
Nevermind I just figured out my problem.
Battery Cover off = crappy data signal since the antenna is built into the battery cover.
Oops, lesson learned =p

You needed a thanks. What the hay.
Anyway, yeah. The antennas are in the battery cover. That'll do it!
1.8 is 2.2.1?

1.8 is Froyo, so yes.
I have had my Thunderbolt for over a year now and have been flashing numerous ROM's/radios since. I have always had great success in each one and as time has passed, newer and better ROM's having been coming out. I currently have the Full Blown Thunderstick ROM which I have found to be the best and smoothest ROM to date. There is only one probem.
I have noticed a drastic difference in the speeds while using this ROM/radio compared to all the ones used prior. I have flashed this ROM and it's respective radio on my Thunderbolt and numerous others and I still have the same issues with all. Can someone tell me why I went from 15mb down/7 mb up speeds which I had prior to now 3-4 mb down/.5-1mb up speeds with this MR4 setup? Also, why won't the ROM let me use the Wireless Tether for Root Users in addition to the Wi-Fi Hotspot one it came with? When I try to run and connect to it from any laptop, it says it's unable to connect the network address although I have no problem connecting to the Wi-Fi Hotspot one. But sometimes with the Wi-Fi Hotspot the ROM came with, it drops connectivity. It feels like it's not using the 4G LTE speeds but only the 3G speeds only.
Just curious, did you search first? The answer for wifi tether has been posted atleast 100 times. I posted it as recently as 2 days ago. As far as speeds, speedtest.net does not work properly with that rom, your info is not correct.

Oh I read the whole thread and I didnt really see anything that answered these questions. Im not going with speedtest.net. Im judging it based on certain websites and web-based programs which are now slower since I installed the ROM.
Did you try Barnacle? I haven't used the ROM you have, I run Liquid.
Most people claim that Wireless Tether works great with Liquid, but I couldn't get it to work. Once I used Barnacle, it not only worked, but I've been getting great speeds with it.
You need to run Imoseyon's kernel to fix the speed issue. It's been widely documented and discussed in almost every MR4 rom thread.
I'vd had the lean kernel flashed since the beginning and still no change in speeds
IMO kernal

which IMO kernel are you using? I believe for mr4 you want v5.2.0. I have it if you cant find a link. pm me
i am using v6.1.0 which was documented to use
Alright so I've never rooted my phone or done anything fancy with it as far as that goes. Recently the ICS update was released and I didn't update right away, wasn't sure how bad it would mess up my current settings etc. After reading that it retained all my settings and functionality I decided to upgrade. Ok so first off I can't Tether anymore and my portable wifi hotspot does not work either, I'm on Rogers and in Canada, never heard of 'tethering plans' such as other people refer to with AT&T. I have my 4g enabled, can retrieve internet access, and as soon as I turn on my portable hotspot my phone is unable to access the 4g anymore, It enables a wifi hotspot but anything that connects to it gets limited connectivity and can't access the internet either. It's like the phone just shuts it off automatically. I used to use this all the time and was one of my favorite features about my phone.. If I'm unable to use this I don't even want the data plan that I currently have, the data plan I decided on DUE to this feature.. So I'm gonna be pretty pissed off if this amazing little update is trying to force me to pay for something that I already pay extra to utilize properly.
I could be wrong here but I'm pretty damn sure that the battery life has dropped by close to 20% I can watch the percentage go down while I'm doing stuff and it seems to be losing life a lot quicker now, and I noticed that after the first day of using ICS. The resolution on the unlock screen seems to be botched, It's very squished... My old version never did this, and it's kind of annoying for my background images and having the clock looking out of whack.
I'm not sure what to do, there doesn't seem to be an update and as far as I know the update has been out for awhile now, why hasn't this stuff been fixed, who can I make official complaints to as far as Samsung or Rogers goes? I've checked these forums a bit and people seem to be having a lot of issues, some similar to mine some not, some I may have just had the luck to avoid so far. Is factory reset the only real option to fix things, and will that even help my tethering issues?
Also things like browsing through Facebook can eat up 5% of my battery in five or ten minutes... I know for sure that it never used to do that. I don't get why the battery life would be effected so drastically, but even when It's just sitting around while I sleep I lose a higher % of battery life than I did before... I've browsed through various threads but there doesn't seem to be many options, is anyone able to respond to the issues I'm having?
Flash a custom ROM. It's easy, and the experience is much better. There are guides in the stickies on everything you need to do.

Like he said above me, flashing a custom rom would fix your problems. I'd recommend CM9 ICS. It's pretty stable and my favorite so far. Downside is you lose S-Pen functionality.

I had the same problem and found two possible solutions:
1- I installed foxfi and i was able to use the wifi hotspot. I still wasn't able to access the native wifi hotspot functionality on the phone, but foxfi did the same thing so no big deal.
2- factory reset. this option is a little radical, but as has been explained elsewhere on this forum, the upgrade doesn't clear some configurations that remain from the GB ROM and those conflict with things like wifi hotspot and cardock and several other things.
I had to eventually do the factory reset. It was a nuisance because i had to reinstall everything, but now my phone works great and I can access all the native functionality.
You could also flash a custom ROM, but I have done it and while they are faster and sexier than the STOK ROM you always have to give up some functionality and they always have some bugs, and once you start flashing custom ROMs you can get OFD and we may lose you forever... (I had it from my windows mobile days and I would flash a new ROM sometimes more than once per day)..
Root (flash cwm with Odin), do a factory reset, and then flash the rooted/deodexed version of the UCLF6 stock rom. You won't lose ANY functionality, and your phone will be quick as hell again -- or even faster.
Like paleh0rse state...
Here is the thread with all the listing for stock LF6; tools that may be required. Along with all the ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740367
If you gonna flash a rooted/deodexed version of the UCLF6 stock ROM, no need to root before hand, just put CWM on and flash away.
Foxfi worked for me. But it doesn't connect right away to the Internet, had to inniate a browser then it connected.

XDA is no longer worth my time.
Factory reset fixed it for me.
TimOster; I did not use Klies, I am with Rogers so I assume it was one of their Roms, It was a wireless download but through my homes Wifi I believe. And I don't really think I did it manually, I got an update message on my phone one day didn't even realize it was ICS at first, but of course it gave me lots of warnings and obviously realized what it was before doing it, but I wasn't expecting this lol, I wish I had checked it out online first I would have seen all the complaints and just stuck with the old version.
I'm thinking about trying a factory reset first, and if that doesn't fix things, mainly the battery issues, then I'll try a stock rom.
No one seems to mention anything about the battery usage though, am I the only one noticing this effect? :\
XDA is no longer worth my time.

Hey guys. Little new to the TBolt crew here.
I've been rooting for a bit. Did an HTC Hero, a DROID Eric, an Incredible... Now I've got a TBolt sitting here that I just rooted about an hour ago. It was running 4G just fine both before and after the root, but after installing a CM7 ROM (SFK's to be precise) I haven't seen 4G pop up since. I've tried a couple other CM7 roms, but nothing seems to make a difference - it only runs on 3G.
I was thinking it might be a radio problem, but admittedly I'm pretty novice with this stuff. I just flash what sounds interesting, and if it's not as stable as I'd like I find something else to flash. Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong? And what I can download to fix it?
EDIT: After giving up and deciding to go back to my backup of "stock" that I'd just made... now it's failing to properly back up. This wonderful error about data being corrupted with the only button available being "I'm Feeling Lucky" and still no 4G, only 3G. Now I'm at a complete loss.
I have a Nexus sitting next to me clearly connected to 4G just fine, so I know it's not a network issue. What the heck is going on here?
I'm sure you have, but never know... have you checked your wireless network settings?
Settings--Wireless & Networks--Mobile Networks--Network Mode.
Make sure LTE/CDMA is selected.

most roms are built with a specific radio in mind i would try to flash one of the newer radios they work better drain less battery and are more compatible with rooted roms.
