[Q] a weird problem - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have an xperia x10 and iphone 3g both rooted and jailbroken
i have a ethernet "internet" connection at laptop on windows 7
i have made an ad hoc wifi connection on my laptop to use my internet connection with both xperia and iphone.
when i open the wifi of iphone it searches and displays my ad hoc connection . it connects well and does well .
but when i try to connect through my xperia.
1st it showed unable to scan network
which i resolved by rooting.
but now when my xperia scans for open networks...
it displays all other networks in my surrounding areas my neighbours etc...
but does not show the wifi connection of my laptop.
tried to manually add the network
but in vain.
in summary i phone recieves and works on adhoc connection but xperia does not
any advices ?
thanxz in advance

Ok so I'm not really clued up on this so forgive any seemingly stupid comments.
My first thing I have to ask is why do you have to ad-hoc your internet to your phones when you can just use your computer to download stuff then up load them via itunes or stick them on the x10's memory card.
Second thing is...X10 2.1 doesn't cater for tethering or internet connection sharing so you will have to
a) Buy a new phone because SE won't release bootloader sources n codes to allow custom roms to be flashed and make full use of hardware.
b) Use the workaround ROMS by using a ported rom that has been adapted to work on SE x10 firmwares. Plenty of info in the forum as you are well aware.
the 2.2 beta 4 has tethering and I think it works.
As a stock 2.1 firmware, connecting to your PC just allows access to files on your memory card.
P.S When the X10 is SCANNING for networks it is using WIFI. That is why it doesn't pick up your ETHERNET connection.

@ above
u did not read my post properly
the ad hoc connection is wifi
thtz how iphone picks it up from laptop over wifi
2nd xperia scans and recieves other networks but not my ad hoc

It is not a wierd problem its just that android is not capable of connecting of detecting ad hoc networks, i think there is a workaround available, you will have to google it.

what are you smoking? Barnacle wifi tethering works on all unlocked versions of x10

[Q] Wifi and bluetooth problems

Hello everyone,
I'm new android user! I'm delighted whit it on x10 mini pro. But I came across a few problems:
My first problem is with WiFi. I don't have wifi router, but I made my laptop to work as a virtual router for wifi, so other computers and mobile phones are free to join my network via WiFi.
However my X10mini is having hard time detecting my wifi network, and when it does it won't connect on it! It doesn't have that problem on real routers for wifi. (My second phone, Samsung jet, can connect to my wifi network without poblem). I have tried with "WiFi Finder" but the problem is same.
I should probably mention that bluetooth has the same problem. I can detect another phone but I can't make any transfer of data between the phones!
What should I do?
P.S. I bought the phone a few days ago and the android software version is 2.1
for the problem with bluethooth try to see in the option, there is one abuot visibility, check it
... sorry for english im italian XD

i was having same problem but this worked for me
Hi androidx10
Your WiFi problem could depend on the wifi network, stock firmware cannot connect to "ad hoc" networks.
Try to install apps like "wifi buddy" from the market, it can help you to scan networks and identify ad-hoc links.
For the bluetooth usually there are no problems sending files but receiveng them.
Try to install from the market apps like "bluetooth file transfer" or "astro bluetooth" to exchange files with other devices.
Good luck and enjoy your X10
hello i just bought a sony ericsson xperia x10 mini pro (u20i firmware version: 2.1-update 1) last week and I can't use it because everytime I insert my sim and then surfing the internet it gives me extra charge even if I am connected to a wireless network. and when I check the remaining balance it's 0.00 data traffic is turned off. What should I do? I want to know what are the applications that gives me extra charge. Do I have to root my phone first to delete those applications? Please help me I dont know what to do.

[Q] AdHoc WIFI Network

I've just got a S2 but i'm new to Android.
One of my major disapointements is the lack o AdHoc WIFI support, is there any way to get my phone to connect to my PC AdHoc network in order to share the pc internet connection ?
I've used to do this with windows mobile since version 6.
Still no news ??
Lack of Wifi AdHoc support is for me a major flaw on android.
I two would like to know this.
At work I have my laptop setup with an Ad-hoc wifi connection that my iPhone 4 used to connect to fine.
My GSii wont see it though.
Annoying as I have limited data to use each month and spend all day at work without access to decent wifi.
i hava the same problem please give us any thing to fix it

[Q]WiFi Problem

Hi guys, do you having a problem with wifi connection?
I just discover the problem yesterday. 1st I found that my phone could not connect with router which setup to 13 channel. Since I cannot do anything with this router, nevermind it's ok.
Then I setup ad-hoc wifi at my lappy so that I can connect through lappy which is wired to internet. What the heck, my phone also cannot detect the wifi signal.
I have another phone, LG Optimus One which can connect successfully to the ad-hoc wireless.
So I've installed WiFinder app. That app can detect the ad-hoc wireless but cannot connect.
While this app is trying to connect, I went to wifi setting but it did not detect the signal.
After that I've created wifi hotspot at my LG and the Neo can detect and connect.
What has happened to this phone/firmware/kernel?
I also browsed other forum and somebody also got this problem.
Android doesn't support ad-hoc.
Try resetting your router, in my experience, the problem is caused by the router most of the time.
Is it true Android doesn't support ad-hoc wireless? But why my LG optimus one can detect and use the ad-hoc wireless?
BTW, It's a shared network and I don't have a privileged to reset/modify the router.
My Neo can't connect to an ad-hoc network, just tried it.
Maybe this works? I didn't try it yet.
http://www.emoiz.com/how-to-connect-your-android-phone-to-ad-hoc-wifi-network
Yes, I've gone through the net and stock android doesn't support ad-hoc.
From the reading, what I've got is inside wpa_supplicant there is ap_scan setting.
Suppose stock condition is 'ap_scan=0' but if change it to 'ap_scan=1' or 'ap_scan=2' will make the phone see ad-hoc wireless. Will try it later either it will connect with connection or not.

So your Optimus One wasn't on stock ROM?
Nop, my optimus one is running on CM7.
But I've found a solution to this problem. By using a repetear bridge(dd-wrt) and access point, I repeat the wifi and bridge it with AP.
Create another wifi at the AP and Neo can connect it successfully.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
this device never should have been made

Which device are you referring to? Neo? Optimus One?

WiFi connection & Hotspot at same time?

Is it somehow possible to log onto a wifi network with the phone, and at the same time create a hotspot that other devices can log on to, and use the primary wifi connection as tether? This would be the ultimate android function!

I don't think so. This sort of negates the purpose of the hotspot function. If you have a wifi connection on your phone, then that same wifi connection is available to other devices. If this is the case, why do you need ANOTHER hotspot? Besides, I think the hotspot needs the wifi radio to serve up the hotspot. I'm not sure, but I don't think it can do that and connect to another wifi connection at the same time.
This would be the ultimate hack. It would solve alot of problems for a number of people.

I don't think you understand what I've said.
I'm not certain any software hack would do this. I'm pretty sure you would need two wifi radios to do this. One to receive/transmit to/from whatever hotspot your phone is connected to, and one to receive/transmit as the active hotspot of the phone. There is only one wifi radio in the phone, so.... ?
And I'm curious: what "alot of problems for a number of people" are you talking about?

I think you are misunderstanding between android wifi cards and PC cards.PC wifi cards can do this work while mobile phones does not because they simply don't have the same hardware.Windows vista/7/8 for example can create hotspot and connect to another network at the same time without problems but mobile phones (not a problem with Android OS) cannot.
The limitation in most mobile devices is the number of antennas - and this is why we can't use Hotspot while connecting to another WiFi network.
Most PC WiFi cards have minimum of 2 antennas, so they can use one for connecting and one for Hotspot. Mobile phones usually have only one antenna, and this is why they can either connect to a foreign SID, or transmit their own SID.

The point is, tethering does not use antenna. In other word we just want to use android device as wifi router while mobile data is not available and our PC don't have wifi antenna
The problem is tethering need to enable with wifi hotspot and it then disable wifi even the tethering does not use antenna. Understand situation now? I think this is more like a bug
Another problem I face is. I want to use my android phone as wifi hotspot. But then I want to use ES file explorer to browse into target device. And It can't find any device while I am being the hotspot myself. I should able to see all device connect to me as I'm the server but I can't. Because when I'm being wifi hotspot I need to disconnect myself from lan network and that's suck
Hotspot and Wi-Fi at the same time
I'll tell you what problems it would solve for my fiance and myself... We live in an area that is rural and surrounded by reservation land. There is no way to get internet here except through our mobile hotspots via our phone provider and the tower less than a mile away. We also use Chromecast and a canon pixma cloud ready printer, however, in order to connect to them, we must turn on our hotspots, yet the printer and chromecast force the Wi-Fi to come on when trying to connect, which then
I'm not certain any software hathen automatically turns the hotspots off, and visa~versa. If allowed to have both on at the same time, connection would be optimal. I've found a way to trick chromecast, but I have to be quick, however, I still cannot connect to the printer. Rather than having every product company change how the connection works, it would be much easier for the two functions to work together if we want them to, without one shutting the other down. That's an example of a problem it would solve.
And I'm curious: what "alot of problems for a number of people" are you talking about?[/QUOTE]
hotspot &wifi simultaneously.
I have the same situation. Do not want to buy yet another device to be able to use chromecast, or any other devices that require both internet access and WiFi! My internet access is my hotspot! Any new info on this? I am rural as well, no cable etc, and my satellite provider has no service even "way out here!" Ha ha

This is possible on windows OS with wifi adapter of inbuild device.. but dont know how to accomplish the same on android
Got the Solution Guys!
I suggest you to Use Alcatel OT918N
It must be rooted and having a Custom Rom
(Usually so Easy)
And Then Enjoy a Normal Wifi and A Hotspot At the same Time!!!
Enjoy!!!
Btw The Alcatel OT918N is popularly known as Idea 3G Smartfone Id918 in India!!!
Apple product do this already. When visiting client offices I had to connected my computer to the hotspot regularly because no one knew the password to the wifi. Really seems like a no-brainer, but apparently Google missed the obvious.
Try NetShare - no-root-tethering on the Play Store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kha.prog.mikrotik
Haha, I also had this thought back in 2011 when I bought my SGSII.
I had tried before and it doesn't work.
I am not sure with other devices, but for SGSII, the answer is "No".
Best regard
Aren't we all glad this is now possible... Like with the OnePlus8 Pro

[Q] phone not connecting to laptops hotspot

hi fellows
i just installed a 4g device in my laptop for internet access. It working fine. Next i made the laptop a hotspot via adhoc connection and after that though internet is fine but i am unable to connect my samsung sii via wifi with it. Even though a friends iphone connected to my lappys hotspot but my phone doesn't and neither does it show that a hotspot/ wifi connections exists.
help
Ad Hoc was designed only for local connections, not Internet.
Use Connectify to make hotspot.

You need to setup a virtual router or if your laptop has a router you can share net via that, originally custom roms does not support ad hoc, but certain roms are modified to enable it.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.
Router has wlan infrastructure mode, not adhoc. It doesn't matter if the ROM supports it or not.
