Not the easiest mod, and there is a chance for brickage or data wipe... Noobs beware...
Needed
Rooted Samsung Fascinate (tested with EB01 superclean 2.4)
Working ADB
Latest Heimdall (the Epic 4g thread warns against odin use, it says he soft bricked with it, and I used Heimdall anyway)
Hacked param.lfs to flash HERE
New jpeg boot logo size 480x800 (preferably less than 64k.. I flashed a 65k one and it booted fine though... just be careful)
Steps:
Enter download mode
Flash hacked param.lfs IN HEIMDALL IN THE BOX THAT SAYS PARAM.LFS, NOT FACTORYFS
Reboot normally, if it boots into recovery just reboot again
Ignore garbled text on bootup
Copy your new bootlogo to /sdcard/logo.jpg
Open ADB shell
Enter these commands:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl6 /mnt/.lfs
cp /sdcard/logo.jpg /mnt/.lfs/logo.jpg
Reboot and enjoy!
Notes
Download mode might not show the download mode logo. It doesn't show on mine. Still works though.
In order to flash another logo, you have to re-flash the hacked param.lfs and then copy the new logo.
In order to flash completely back to stock, flash this param.lfs HERE

It's possible that if you really broke the param.lfs it wouldn't boot into download mode and show the graphic, but it would still be in download mode, just with nothing on the screen.
Has anyone, other than the original poster, have more guts than I do and tried this?
I am itching to do it (I want to piss off my friend by having an Apple logo ), but I am a bit afraid to try it...
I tried it, it worked.

glad to hear u got this working on another phone besides the epic kmalinich...props!

If you flash that in an "PDA" section of Heimdall you will get what I got two hours ago, a serious brick!! You have to look in the Heimdall front end and notice there is a "param.lfs" box that you must flash it from (I assume anyway). Trust me I was dead in the water I had to delete heimdall for Odin to work again.
I think it should be clear in the first post, there are several posts about flashing it in PDA which is incorrect. Or am I wrong here?

In Heimdall, everything except the PIT file is under the PDA/Code heading. I think that's what you're reading. The first flash selection under PDA/Code is FactoryFS...

Has anyone tried Odin flashing cwm-recovery-all.zip?
It was designed to work on many phones but also integrates voodoo for those kernels that can use it.
I don't see why it wouldn't work but I am no development and without a recovery image available from sanding I don't want to kill my player.

Could you give me a link of what you are talking about? never heard of it before, bit I would be willing to try it.
i just checked the sdcard on my mesmerize and i was incorrect, the name is cwm-recovery-all.zip - you can also google that and get tons of download links from places like mediafire.
it is CWM or Odin flashable.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...-clockworkmod-all-roms-updated-3-30-11-a.html
it was actually found here but here is a link for another place that has a link for both cwm flash and odin flash versions.
frankly i have not even seen anyone post how to get into recovery or how to get into download mode...
but of course adb should easily be able to do both.
Sorry, I'm still a bit of a noob to android, How would I flash this? You say you can flash it using cwm but isn't that what we are trying to get on? I have no idea how to use Odin and would appreciate help.
Edit; where do I even download Odin?
Could I just do this manually with root explorer? looking inside the zip it seems possible, but would I have to do anything with the "META_INF" or "kernal_update" folders, or are they only for flashing?

nope no manual install. its a flash.
and google is your friend dude.
just look for something like Odin 1.3 or higher.
but i use 1.3 because i have a Galaxy S 1 phone. (samsung mesmerize)
and i am gunna warn you, there is a good chance this will brick your Player.
and since Samsung doesnt offer a firmware download, you are screwed. i dont think even Kies would be able to fix it.
downlaod the cwm-recovery-all.zip (or you may download a tar file i forget
unzip it, and inside is cwm-recovery-all.tar inside of it is recovery.bin. (dont unpack the tar file.
odin is easy. just put your phone into download mode. (via adb - adb reboot download )
plug it into your pc.
open odin - it should say something is recognized or added (meaning your phone.)
click pda and choose the cw-recovery-all.tar
then click start.
once again you could easily kill your Player by doing this. - atleast until someone figures out how to
but if I do brick, can I use a backup rom to fix it, or will this screw recovery mode= no possible fix?
Edit; looking at that thread, it seems this is for 2.2, I have 2.3.5, I think that is a good reason for me not to try this, sorry! I'm chickening out.

yeah but it works fine on my mesmerize and it uses 2.3.4
best case is it says failed when Odin tries to flash it.
and where you going to get a backup rom ? does Kies do some sort of full back up ?

It seems to fail at recovery.bin, maybe mine is corrupted.
If someone could post theirs for a 4.0 u.s. version, I would appreciate it!

for above problem.. i managed to flash back to my stock rom.
1. download your stock rom from samfirmware (2.2/TTT version in my case)
2. download odin3 1.85.
3. flash using pda button
worked for me.
ps. i had mine bricked due to checking partition box, using above method fixed it.
Last time I checked, samfirmware didn't have it for U.S.
Also were you able to get yours into download mode, if so how?
Also about my post above, I just mean the recovery.bin file, not whole rom.

I don't know exactly what you mean, but I backed up; system, kernal, and recovery. I put these int a .tar.md5 file with cygwin, and when flashing with odin it fails as it gets to "recovery.bin" wich leads me to believe that is the problem.
Background
I'm not a developer or hacker but a general android enthusiast and flashaholic (not to be confused with the rom builder ;-) ) With my addiction, I have soft bricked my phone many times where my only option is to use the Entropy's Return to Stock tool to go back to factory settings because I couldn't get to recovery.
The problem is that I don't want to go back completely to stock, I would like to be able to boot into CWM and flash a custom rom directly. After reading a bit I learned I could just flash the kernel and that should allow me to at least ADB into recovery.

This will allow users to quickly flash the kernel (SiyahKernel v2.6.12) using Odin in order to flash a working rom or nandroid.
Instructions
Download Kernel.tar and Odin (extract Odin)
Open Odin
Put your phone in download mode (pull battery, plug in usb cable, hold VOL+Up and VOL+Down while re-inserting the battery).
Ensure the phone is showing up in one of the COM ports
Click "PDA" and search for the kernel.tar file
One the file has been selected, click "Start"
Click to collapse
If this flashed properly, you should reboot to recovery... if not you can enter in ADB while the Samsung logo is up:
Code:
adb reboot recovery

installed cwm via odin onto sgs2 then cf root after.

i should of known better as i have rooted and installed cwn
so many times before but on this occasion i blame tiredness and
people yapping in my ears.
what i have did was to installed cwm onto a new 4.0.3 sgs2 phone via odin (pda then start)
then after noting my mistake i tried to boot the phone. it boot to logo screen then switch off.
i decided to cf root it with odin (again only pda and start) but again the phone boots to logo and triangle
then goes off.
maybe im in good luck the phone goes into recovery mode and cwn but wont boot.
i have the stock rom files that i downloaded
1, I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5
2. SS_DL.dll
with the above files i thought i could use the .PDA and ss_dl.dll for the .PIT in odin but im not 100%
sure since i do know that IT usage in odin will mess up the phone.
please can some one help me out thanks

Do not use the .pit file unless you understand 100% what you're doing, as its one of the easiest ways to brick your device.
I have a few questions before I can help you.
Can you get into download mode?
- If you can go to www.sammobile.com, download a stock firmware, flash through odin. If it still doesnt boot, try to wipe data/factory reset through 3e (stock recovery), then try to boot again.
-- After you do that, flash a cf-kernel to root the device.

No one can help you unless you provide enough useful information about what you have done. You should have read and learned enough to avoid making a mistake in the first place, but if you will tell us what you have done, maybe you'll get some help. What exactly did you flash with Odin? Provide a link to it? You did not get the warning on boot from flashing stock. What method did you use to try to enter download mode? To try to enter Recovery?

You should have read and learned enough to avoid making a mistake in the first place, but if you will tell us what you have done, maybe you'll get some help. What exactly did you flash with Odin? Provide a link to it? You did not get the warning on boot from flashing stock. What method did you use to try to enter download mode? To try to enter Recovery?

Not familiar with that particular file, but we have seen a multitude of problems from flashing firmware provided by galaxys2rootdotcom. Please use an archive program to open the tar and list the contents back here. (I don't want to download 387MB just to look at it.)

That's not a galaxys2root produced file. That is the straight stock Kies file which they downloaded from SamFirmware or Samsung Updates. That didn't cause the problem.
You say you can now not enter either download mode or recovery?
Don't do a wipe data with that installed if you do get into recovery!

I'm not sure why your phone is having problems. You should be able to just flash stock and start over. If it were my phone, I would flash UCKH7 stock plus root, install a Gingerbread custom kernel, and then pick a firmware from the development forum. If you choose to follow that path, be sure to open the Oden window first before putting your phone into download mode. If you need additional information, there is plenty of help in the guides and threads linked in my signature.
I have flashed the firmware you would have flashed and it is in a boot loop with the att boot image

Did you flash a custom kernel and then flash a new rom?
First I read all the stickies and tried every installation to go back to stock but Odin just freezes up. Also tried different USB ports and and computers and same results. I can only go into download mode.
You may need to repartition. Not knowing the history of how your phone got to where it is now, I can't be sure. Can you give me a complete rundown of your issue?

How would I go about repartitioning the phone? I full wipe and flashed the new Shostock3 and it was doing fine. The next day when I woke up my phone had the sleep of death. The Galaxy S2 logo was stuck and I tried to get into recovery and it only showed half of the screen and was frozen. Now the screen says Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
Go to the Download Repository. The link is in my sig.
First, try flashing full stock Gingerbread. Use the download under the heading I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries. This is the full distribution which contains the bootloaders. It doesn't matter whether you use the one-click downloader, or the tar.md5 file with Odin stand alone. If this flash completes, then you're recovered. Follow the guides to root and install a custom Gingerbread kernel, then flash back to SHOstock3 or whatever firmware you want.
If this flash does not complete, then download the I777 UCKH7 PIT and use that in Odin stand alone with the above tar.md5 file. Insert the tar in the PDA slot, the pit in the PIT slot, and check repartition, then flash.

So I tried both the one-click downloader and flash doesn't not complete, same goes for odin and PIT file.

If you didn't try it already, now go back and flash just the tar.md5 file without the pit, again, and see if it will complete.

Yes, I was hoping that the problem is not hardware, but it was a thought from the beginning, given the sequence of failure. Is the phone by chance still under warranty?
Let's don't give up yet, though.
Things to try, then try to flash the full firmware in between.
1. Use Odin stand alone to flash just the I777 secondary bootloader.
2. Use Odin stand alone to flash just the param.lfs.
Try the instructions in this post.

No it isn't anymore. My upgrade isn't until May. Do you think a usb jig will work?
Thanks I will try that and will let you know how it comes along.

You can already get into download mode. I don't believe there is any difference in the download mode produced by a jig. A jig is really helpful if the wrong secondary bootloader was flashed by accident (or ignorance), and you can't get the phone into download mode any ohter way.

Tried those these you mentioned and still stuck. I'm already losing hope and want to get a new phone or spare already. I think I have a few things saved in the phone too.
Update: My screen is stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S2 screen with the yellow triangle.
Same problem

Same issue here, The phone's stuck on Nand flash in Odin. Had tried all recommendations suggested here... Any updates on the phone sent to mobiletech guys?
