I have tweaked my phone just by adding a few lines to the /system/build.prop file, so it does not show the boot animation and loads a lot faster.
Is there a way to keep the phone turned off while charging? I bought my phone second hand with Android 2.1 and it did it, I just showed a battery charging icon as big as the screen but the phone kept switched off.
I updated to 2.1 last version and now it charges only with the phone on. Even if you switch it off it just reboots and refuses to stay off. I was wondering if there's a modification to change the phone behavior while charging as easy to do as the boot animation is.
Thanks
XD i think no to the comment!

I'm running gingerblur 3.5 an my wifi occasionally fails but a quick reboot usually fixes it..... but this time a reboot got me stuck on a boot loop.... after 3 boot loops the phone started up but there's a blue led flashing!? It may be worth mentioning that the led only flashes when the screen is awake and i'm unable to reach the lock screen. Locking the phone puts the phone to sleep but the lock screen isn't appearing!? I'm not using and have not used any led notification apps.
So i got the lock screen back by putting a password on it then removing it but i just noticed wifi is definitely broken i guess i'll restore with tenfar's recovery

Are you connected to something by Bluetooth and you happen to be out of range when it flashes blue?

no, bluetooth is off but i plugged the phone into the charger the led turned green then when i unplugged it the blue led was off. Then a few reboots later wifi is up and running. I will be happy when the devs get an AOSP rom running on this thing.
so when ever the tab is fully charged the screen turns on and wont go of until i click the lock button.
i don't have power savings mode. timeout is set to one min. and no auto adjust screen power. 3.2 stock rom
i cant find any settings to adjust this specifically so i don't know what this is. i just don't like the idea of the tab sitting for hours with screen on
EDIT: also noticed that if i put to charge screen wont go of, just fades after the 1 min timeout. i must manually turn it of. i.e push lock button
Hi.
I haven't noticed anything like that when I have been using stock Rom...
If you put tablet to charge did the big-clock screensaver shows up?
If so, you must press back on the bottom tab to let it go away and then it wil fade out and turn off the screen after timeout you have set up in settings...
The only time when screen goes on after charging and stay in that state is when charging with Tablet switched off {big battery charging indicator show up...}...
is it the lock screen your talking about, if so then yes. tab is put to charge and locked. then when full it makes a sound then shows lock screen and fades a bit after some time, but doesn't turn of. screen is of until fully charged. then turns on.
Hmm... this doesn't seems to be normal. On my tab, when fully charged it just make a sound and doesn't unlock or light up the screen...
Which country are you from and what ROM are you using? This might be an unwanted "feature" of branded ROM from some operator/provider...
Maybe if you are planning to Root and give your Tab some nice new ROM from here, your problems will be solved...
im planing on rooting as soon as CM9 is done. im in norway. we dont have operators/providers screwing up our phones like in the states.
I just did a full factory reset of my stock rom and finished restoring my apps but for some reason the screen won't turn off when I leave the device alone.
Screen timeout is set to 30 seconds but no matter what I set it to, the device never ever sleeps. Also if I press the lock button sometimes the device will wake itself and and the screen will come back on permanently... I've looked in the process manager and nothing is running in the foreground.
Here is a logcat. Can anyone make sense of it?
I have no idea why this is happening after a fresh wipe on a stock rom.
Just try this.
Go to settting --> Display --> Touch key light duration --> Change "Always on" to either 1.5 seconds or 6 seconds (as per your choice)
If it works just HIT thanks button.
The touch key light duration has nothing to do with why my screen won't turn off...
Thanks anyway..
Do you have any alarms set?
EDIT: in developer options do you have stay awake set on? Also if your not plugged into USB maybe you should try and clean the USB port.

Hey thanks for the reply. No I have no alarms on, the USB port is very clean and I don't have that option in my 'Developer Options'. :/ I really would like to know what is going on...
Same problem
Hi leijonasisu,
My samsung has just developed the same problem whereby the screen won't turn off ever. It happened since the battery went completely flat two days ago. I'd love to know whether you found a solution to the problem, because it is draining the battery at an insane rate!
thanks.

Hey! Little bit of help please !
Hello everyone, im new to this place but as far as I could read my cellphone having the exact same symptoms as the threadstarted stated.
I do have the "Developer options" tab and also I would like to add another symptom.. After the phone is fully charged, the green icon at the top-left corner of the screen wont dissapear after I disconnect the usb cable.
- I do not have the "stay awake" settled on.
- I do have multiple alarms but just at some exact point each morning.
- The only way I can shut the screen down is by pressing the lock button.
- I'm running 4.1.2 as the android version.
- My model is the GT-I9100
Is there any other thing you guys would need to know ? thanks in advance for the possible help provided.
Flash a stock firmware via odin.
Then all will back to default.the same look when you bought it.
Or flash a custom rom with device option in settings.you can controll the screen behavior there.

Root your phone and flash a custom roms.
You'll find one at the dev section.
Dont like the custom rom and stay on stock?
Do a factory reset.
Settings - Storage - Erase all data
This will erase your user data and downloaded apps.So do it at your own risk.
Goodluck

I just had the problem on my Mega, where the Power Button would bring up the Power Menu on a long tap, but would not turn the screen off when I just pressed it quick, like it used to. Nor would the screen shut off with the Screen Timeout set either.
When it started this problem, I also noticed that the solid white screen that would appear during part of the bootup no longer appeared.
This got me to thinking. I'm Rooted on the Factory v4.2.2 ROM, so I installed "XBlast" and went into it and checked the box for Disabling the Boot Animation (SU should prompt you).
Anyway, I rebooted and the problem was gone! I can turn the screen on and off with my Power Button again!
This all started with yesterday's Google+ update making my system go haywire! I had to restore from a previous NanDroid backup, but this one issue remained. The Bootup Animation must have got messed up somehow and affected it and disabling it stopped it from interfering or something.
This helped me and I can deal with having a way cool boot animation later if I want. But at least my phone's screen turns off now and maybe it'll help you too.
Solution!!!
This problem is usually caused by the usb charging port, which is why a factory reset doesn't fix it. It's a hardware problem not a software problem.
1.
First thing to try is cleaning the usb port with a small dental bursh (or whatever you can find) and some surgical spirit which you can find in a pharmacy,
Take the battery out and unplug the phone when you do this.
2.
If that doesn't work then you can try the method that worked for me. Full disclosure: I invented this through trial and error, I don't know why this works and I can't guarantee you won't damage the usb port. But if nothing else works, then I say go for it.
For this method leave the battery inside, have the phone on.
Okay, so the port is a hole with a prong in the middle, right. Get a sewing needle and insert it into the space between the prong and the hole, specifically the place where the prong is closest to the hole wall - all right? The prong should be much closer to one of the walls than the other walls, put it down there, it won't fit unless you force it a little bit.
Put it in as far as it will go, then leave it for a little while. Turn the screen on and wait, see if the screen turns off. For me it usually works after five minutes of having the needle inside. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY
Hi, so sorry for the vague thread title, but really, there's no other way to describe it. So here's what happened.
For the past few weeks (or month), my Xperia Ray has had a problem of switching on after it was put into standby mode, i.e. after i pressed the lock button. The screen would light up, however would remain blank. So all I would get is a bright black screen.
I could have lived with this for a few more months (until Xperia Z gets released in my country D: ) however this problem started getting worse. At first, after pressing the home button, the volume rockers and/or the lock button for about 20 times, the screen would turn on (finally). Despite it giving me that bright black screen, i could still operate the screen. I could still try to unlock it because of the haptic feedback on my lockscreen. I could still change music tracks on my music widget on my lockscreen. In short, the screen worked perfectly, only that it kinda wouldn't show. However, for the past week, the only way to turn it back on would be to do a battery pull and switch on the phone again. And it recently developed a problem of giving me that bright black screen again when I switch it on, causing me to do about 5 battery pulls before being able to actually use my phone again.
I did get fed up with this problem, being a heavy user of my phone. Therefore, today I decided to try to do a factory reset of my phone, intending to wipe the dalvik cache + clear all user data, thinking it might help my bright black screen problem. However, I found that I couldn't boot into recovery because all my phone would do was to give me that bright black screen again! So after many battery pulls, I managed to boot up my phone normally and do a factory reset under the backup & restore tab in settings. Of course, the phone tried to reboot itself, but of course, just gave me the bright black screen.
I kinda gave up at this point, and did many battery pulls and boots, however, all I got was either
1. the terrible bright black screen
or less frequently
2. the free xperia project logo then the terrible bright black screen.
I did get very fed up, so I plugged it into a wall socket to charge it. However, since about an hour or two ago, I realised it may be on bootloop. When I plug it into a wall socket, the free xperia project logo shows up and then an even brighter black screen shows up for about 3-5 minutes, then those two repeat endlessly. The notification light doesn't show that it's charging at all.
Okay here's background info on my phone.
- Is rooted
- Bootloader is unlocked
- CM 9.1 is installed
- Was running GO Launcher (if that helps)
- had a custom boot animation
- I think i deleted an apk for the google start up configuration thing...the one that asks if you have any google accounts you want to connect when you switch on your phone for the first time. I'll search up the correct apk name if you need it.
- Is about a year old (got it last early April)
- is a Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray (in case you didn't notice haha)
- battery level was about 20%+ when I did a factory reset (terrible of me I know)
- I have tried to caliberate the battery a few months ago
That's all the background info I can think you need. Please do let me know if you need any other info. If you need the logcat text of what happens when I hit the lock button at the top of my phone and the phone gives me the bright black screen (the early stages of this problem), let me know and I'll dig it up. I think I've bricked it, but I can't boot it into recovery so I can't do anything. And I did all I could google for the bright black screen problem which I won't tire you by specifying here. Please do help me. It seems as if the worst of evils has befallen my phone. Now I'm stuck here with my phone crazily on bootloop beside me. Please please do help.
Flash stock rom
Just try flashing a stock rom with Flashtool. If the problem persists, then it could be a hardware problem. Flashing a stock ftf takes care of all software issues. Get the stock ics FTF file and place it in firmwares folder of flashtool. Start flashtool and select flash mode. Then choose your ftf and press ok. Then wait until it prompts you to connect your phone. Then, just turn off your phone, while holding the power button down attach the USB cable. The LED notification should turn green and wait until it finishes flashing.
flash extended stock kernel and then the stock ftf firmware file...
hit thanks if i helped u

Hi, if your phone can still be switched on and hasn't progressed so far in being destroyed, you could try downloading the Disable Auto Brightness app for Xperia phones from the Play Store. I've read somewhere that the screen might not turn on because of the auto brightness. I'm not sure if it actually helps, but perhaps my phone would have died faster without it. I've read of people changing their battery, doing battery calibrations or changing their screen to fix the problem. But before you change the hardware, I suggest that you check the hardware first. If the Disable Auto Brightness doesn't work, do a Nandroid backup and store the backup somewhere safe. Then flash the stock firmware to your phone and try to get it to switch on. Do flash the firmware before your phone runs out of battery because you never know, your phone may decide to refuse to charge your battery anytime. Then try to switch it on. If your phone goes into a bootloop (like mine now) really consider getting a new phone or sending it for repair or try all day to fix it if you use your phone alot. I'm still trying to fix mine.
I flashed the original firmware for my phone, tried to turn it on, was very happy when I saw the original Xperia logo, but then I realised it was on bootloop. When I tried to charge it, it immediately turns on and goes into bootloop again. Logcat doesn't detect my phone, so I can't obtain the logcat of what's happening. I haven't tried to replace the battery of my phone because I couldn't find a supplier. But I'll go on trying to fix my phone until the day that it really breaks down. Good luck with yours and keep us posted.

Hi everyone, I'd like to ask you a question. I have a Mi Pad 4 and every time, after booting, the touch screen does not appear to respond immediately to the commands on the lock screen. I have to press the screen randomly to make it work. Once the touch starts, the tablet works perfectly.
Can you tell me if I'm the only one with this problem?
Thanks!
I do too. The screen would hang up when boot. I have to turn off the screen and on again for it to work.
And anyone have auto shutdown bug? Mine will auto shutdown when enter deep sleep and battery is below 15%, even when plugged in. Nothing happen above 15%.

Fortunately I'm not the only one with this problem/bug.
Regarding the DeepSleep and the shutdown I have never try to verify it. Usually when the tablet is 30% I recharge it.
I'll try to test that.
Currently I have the HavocOS 2.8 ROM and I don't know if the deepsleep is set in the same way. But ill will try and I let u Know.
If someone else has our problems please reply this thread.
Yes after boot I have to pick up the tablet and move to unlock the screen faster.
Maybe its a feature?
It appears in TWRP too

I don't know, I thought it was just my problem, but apparently I'm not the only one. Even with TWRP and custom rom happens
