So I have a G2, the 30 day return policy ends on Feb 22, should I return it on the 22, get my money back, and buy the Vibrant 4G on the 23rd? Do you think T-Mobile stores will have it on the 23rd

I think its a 14day return policy for tmobile not 30, i had both but i hated the g2 and went back to my vibrant. You can keep swapping phones within the 14 day and u get a new 14 day everyime you exchange atleast that was the case with me ( I swapped and exchanged like 4 different phones) But i would get the vibrant 4g plus if its possible. But youll most likely have to pay the price difference between the vibrant 4g and g2 to exchange it for that

The different answers received are likely because the policy varies depending on how the phone was bought. In-store purchases are 14-days, Online purchases are 20 days. The extra days for online purchases are for shipping allowances, etc when returning the device. Either way, T-Mobile doesn't do 30 days. If the OP is already past 14 / 20 trial, then the G2 can't be returned anyway. In that case, it ends up being a moot point because the OP either failed to read, listen, etc.
You do get 30 days to return the phone if its not an upgrade and purchased in full at a T-Mob store. 14 days if on contract.

Ah, true. Didn't realize you were in a CA and forgot about that CA specific law. I think that state may be the only exception. My apologies.
Are you on contract? If not, you would receive 30 days anyway. Forgot about that too. Should be clear now, though.
I sold my Vibrant, got the G2. Not regretting it one bit.
Yeah, Vibrant was a little faster, but Samsung can suck it. Tired of their lines of BS. Their story has always been the same. My friend had a Behold 2 and he warned me about Samsung's incompetence and their propensity to renege on promises (Behold 2 was supposed to get updates 1.6 or 2.1 Android and they got NOTHING). I should have heeded his advice.
And Cyanogenmod rocks, they're actually innovating and introducing new features rather than just releasing ROMs w/ skin changes.

CyanogenMod is good for a nerd, not for the average person.
C'mon, you're on XDA forums. We're all nerds here, we're spending our free time to root our phones to squeeze out an extra 10% of functionality.
Even I, as a low level of nerd, who hasn't edited a file or skinned my own launcher, can appreciate the extra functionality of Cyanogenmod. Customizable drop-down status menus, lockscreen gestures, etc etc. All awesome things.
In the end, the hardware is only as good as the software on it. HTC has always been good about keeping their devices up to date (not as good as Motorola, but certain better than Samsung). Cyanogenmod is just icing on the cake.
Well, to be honest, I actually quite like Samsung phones, even though their updates time are terrible.
I learned that what aren't broken don't fix it. Extra tweaks/options/themes will only serve to slow the phone down or mess it up somehow. I actually like to keep my phone as simple as possible, using only enough power to get it to work correctly.
Shouldn't this be on the general question section not the development section? My 2ยข

Looks like I'll be shelling out $600. I won't have an upgrade available and I'd rather not extend my contract even if I did. They said the price point is going to be $249 for a 2-year contract, $349 for a 1-year contract and $599 full retail.
Here's an interesting article I read from Android Central. States that Best Buy might possibly have the TB on Feb 14th.

Wait.......did anyone read this?
From AndroidCentral Forums:
My local Verizon Wireless store said tonight, 1/22/11, that the HTC Thunderbolt was going on sale Feb. 11th; one day after the iPhone for Verizon! The staff (all 5 of the people working who have never mislead my in the past 4 years) said that just this morning they had a meeting in which they received this information! A new excitement is inside me once again

Though take it with a grain of salt too, a lot more has come out since the 22nd.
Hmm, interesting. 2 people on my line are upgrading to the Iphone and they both recieved offers to "reserve" their Iphones on Feb 3rd. I guess they can release the Tbolt on that day too because there are barely going to be any Iphones in the stores, since most will be sold out...
Not seeing how the Thunderbolt will release within two weeks of the iPhone. The Thunder will mainly get missed by the media and a lot of consumers, due to the media's iPhone feevah'. Seems Thunder needs space for its own limelight.
Also needs an ad campaign with ACDCs Thunderstuck
Rushless, agreed with your comment. But, the iPhone and android phones are for two different types of people. The iPhone will sell primarily to the people who already have them or have been waiting on them, the people who like android will get the bolt. The people who no nothing, about either, will go with the bolt, because its bigger and prettier, and has "the neat windshield wipers when it rains" I've heard it stated this way when I sold my dinc to a lady a couple of weeks back.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Agreed, ksiz, but the media and their coverage helps sales too. To soon release around iPhone means minimal media coverage of an Android device. Sad but true.
You have to put into consideration that the iPhone 4 isn't new either. Nothing groundbreaking here than merely another carrier picking up the same model already offered on AT&T. The iPhone publicity horse has been beat to death for years now. I overheard a 63 year old lady at the mall the other night talking about the iPhone coming to Verizon, and how she was picking one up for her granddaughter. The reason I know she's 63 is because she's my neighbor and I was carefully trying to avoid her at all cost, when you get her going she can't stop talking.
OK i have a question will i have to pay anything if its my upgrade time?
Alright so Now that is appears as though the EVO 3D will never attain full Root lets see how big of a deal this really is.
I haven't made up my mind yet...however I am seriously considering it.
The phone in itself is still bad ass and i am pretty sure you can still gain Root and do some minor modifications.
However, the fact that you can not fully customize and flash roms and kernels that fit you the best is a big turn off.
HTC just turned into Apple with the elitist take it or leave it attitude in my opinion.
Not me its the future for most phones i'm not going to stay with an evo forever because of it. Besides eventually someone will figure a way around it if not with the 3d with something else. Look at the ps3 uncrackable supposedly and the xbox 360, psp and so on and so on where there is a will there is a way.
It saddens me that I won't be able to mod my device that I paid for, but I'll still get it, it think. Maybe I'll wait for it to release then get a 4g, instead. We'll see.

Be careful on what you say. That can give false hope and I hate to see people buy this phone expecting that someone will get on it and find themselves like other phone users.....sitting with the exact same phone they bought a year later.
Samsung Galaxy S 2, here I come! Unfortunately, I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while.
I will shed a tear for the EVO 3D on release day, mainly because I wanted the hardware improvements. But I'm not going to put myself in the same boat as the Droid 2 and Droid X which still have no root!
I still plan on getting it day 1 as well, I'm not really sure why so many people think Samsung is the magical catalyst in the equation to stop buying HTC products.
The Galaxy S looked great from afar, and that's pretty much all that it did. What makes anyone think Samsung suddenly got their act together and will be releasing timely, seamless updates for GSII? I'm confused...not to mention all the countless other flaws it has.
I'd much rather own a locked HTC phone than deal with the garbage that came from all angles of the current Galaxy S line.

I'm still going to get it. I like sprints service and samsung has to prove that they can keep phones up to date. Plus, sprint does not get a whole lot of new phones like the other companies.
My game plan had changed, however. Before this news, I was going to use my upgrade and then trade in my evo. Now, I'll just buy the phone retail, save my evo and upgrade discount. That way, should something better come during quarter four, I have discount options, plus to the ability to sell the 3d and my evo.

If you have a discount available but won't use it now for the 3d but use the discount down the line, why not save the money now and pay full retail on something else down the line. What if down the line you decide to keep your 3d and not buy something else.
If you are willing to pay full price for a device, might as well keep your money now and in your pocket instead of Sprints. Don't see your angle on this one.

my thoughts exactly.
I don't know yet. I never really used the Root feature on my Hero, just for the occasional new look every few months. Not too sure that no root will be that big a deal for me. As long as its fast(er than my hero) and works for texting like it should, I'll survive.
Wouldnt matter to me i find all the customize apps on the market already matching my needs. I will probaby worry if i cant upgrade to the next firmware of 2012

+1 on being harassed by the Mrs. for spending too much time on my phone---especially when I am in recovery/rebooting when she is trying to get a hold of me.
Coming from a Hero on launch day, I am due for some new hardware. Since I am a Sprint Premier customer, I can certainly live with it for a year (assuming it makes it past the 30 day return period). I still plan to get one on launch day and shortly thereafter, be able to install SU and my rooted apps.

My cousin got a droid 2 and he's rooted via Z4root. There's just not any ROMs or Kernels/Themes you can flash over it.
as long as it has a partial root so I can use wifi tether like the original unrevoked I'll be a happy camper, though I would love a myn rom on my evo 3d if thats not possible I still wanna use my rooted apps!
The price will deter me more than the fact that it's locked up. If it releases at $300 then I'll spend another $100 and get the Asus transformer and keep my Hero for another year.
Honestly... I was a little worried about 3D support with custom ROMs anyway. I'm sure HTC is doing a lot of stuff to get Android and Sense to work with 3D.
I've had some concerns with security on some of the custom ROMs lately anyways, so I will have no problem going back to stock sense. I actually really like sense... it was just too darn slow on the Hero. I'm sure it will be nice and fast on the Evo 3D. I'm still planning on getting it. But, like I said, if they announce a $300 price for it I'll consider cancelling my pre-order and spending another $100 to get a tablet. Smartphones aren't worth $300 when you can get laptops/tablets for $300-400 nowadays.
What are the real chances of getting root on our 3vo's before the end of the 30 days... or ever?
I know the developers are totally awesome - but after all this time I think they should know if it's going to be possible or not.
Am I wrong?
Any comments agrabren, Zone23, RVDigital, Leoisright,xHausx?
Like, will it happen by an accidental breakthrough?
Any Voters?

Agreed. Root isn't gonna come through the traditional approaches, because this phone is designed differently than the phones that came before it, so we're gonna have to change our way of thinking and methods of attack, but no system is bulletproof, especially a new (i.e., unproven) system.

If no systems are bullet proof, that means that every Android phone that has been released with an encrypted bootloader has been cracked? I was under the impression that phones that have been out for over a year now like the Droid X, have yet to be completely unlocked. Perhaps I'm wrong.
highly unlikely that HTC will release unlocked bootloader in the 30 day time period.
I think our devs can do it in under 30 days, but we'll have to wait and see. Of all the HTC phones, I think we have the best group of devs. I'm sure they'll get it done. Just don't know how long it will take. Maybe 20 days, maybe 45, who knows?
I think the rumor of a 2.3.4 update coming soon carrying an unlocked bootloader is just that, a rumor (both that it's coming soon, and that it will carry an unlocked bootloader). I hope to be proven wrong x 2, but I'm not going to lose sleep waiting up...
It took a long time on the EVO Shift, so I will not ever give up hope.

I think HTC will unlock the phone, as will our devs (probably first). Brought back the E3D due to a slew of tiny problems and the radios sucking hard. But i wasn't going to wait around. I went back to my E4G, but had the itch to get a new phone. So I traded in the E4G for the NS4G. It has radios slightly better than the E3D and if I get "stuck" with it I know I won't be locked into stock experience...and this thing kicks the E4G's ass...OC'd to 1.4gHz it rates as twice as fast as a stock E4G...
So if the E3D is unlocked in 30 days or the SGS2 is released I'll get one of them, if not i got the best buy buy-back program on my side....I always figured it was a ripoff but you get 50% of your original purchase price in 6 months--when the NexusPrime will be coming out...so that's $350 trade up value. A small price to pay.
Also the battery life on the NS4G is effing fantastic. slaughters both the E3D and E4G--even modded to the gills.
So, in summation, I feel confidant that I'll be rocking an E3D again in the next 30 days...or SGS2....but I'll certainly have a Nprime (1280x720 cellphone!??), and that thing won't have concerns for 'will it be cracked?'

I've been pondering doing the same thing. Never have to friggen worry about a nexus being locked down. I'm starting to think that if I want to mod my phone and flash roms and kernels, then maybe it would be beneficial for me to just stick to the nexus line. If half the rumors of the nexus prime are true, then that damn thing may be worth waiting for. Htc has left a sour taste in my mouth by locking this thing down so tight. Not even worth the bs, if modding your phone is what you're interested in.

Yup. That's what hooked me, and even though this phone has near 'feature parity' with th E4G it replaced it is _so_ much more refined. It is the Android experience that Google sees as "standard" for this generation of phones. Even with the bull**** stock launcher on a stock rom everything is so effing smooth. _Everything_, I have never seen Android run so lag free and I have my E4G oc'd to 1190, tried every kernel, locked home app in memory, tweaked every setting everywhere...Yes, it's even smoother than the E3D...even with the same launcher...It is Google's absolute definition of what this generation of Android should look and feel like. Oh, and the camera destroys E4G and E3D...sure, no 720p video, but, the WVGA video is perfectly smooth and the audio isn't sickening like the 4G...and while a bit grainy it stays just as smooth in lower light conditions.
I know, it doesn't make sense...512mb ram, 1ghz...slightly better than average GPU....but...damn....and the battery life is fantastic. Also, sAMOLED might not be accurate color, but it's dead sexy color. Getting s-off took one command over ADB. I had CM7 up in under 10 minutes...including download time.
I'm a very happy camper...I think I'm going to stick to my plan and keep this until Nprime comes along, trade this in and keep on sticking with the Nexus line. Unless the E3D is unlocked in the next 30 days in which case I'll grab that and use that to trade up to the Nprime.

Yeah but hacking on the PS3 didn't start with him. He can say what he wants about how easy it was, but people had been trying since it's release with no success. Granted he found the way, but last time I checked, he wasn't a member of TeamWin or any other Android affiliated group.
Ok guys, the time is almost upon us. Who's gonna be getting the SGS II on ATT this weekend? I plan on calling my local B&M stores to see who has it(possibly for a lower price)
I posted here, because the Captivate is a Galaxy S phone and there is no dedicated forum for the ATT SGS II yet
Ide like to get it. But I don't know how much its gonna be off contract

They took too long to get it out. The Nexus Prime is just around the corner and there are already rumblings about a quad-core SGS III for the first half of next year. I'm going to wait and see what the Prime is all about and if there are any problems with it. If not, I may jump on the Prime. If the GPS sucks or something else is wrong with it, I'll wait for the SGS III.
Plus, it looks like the SGS2 won't have LTE. If I'm going to be locked into a phone for 18 to 24 months, I'll want LTE capability for when it starts rolling out.
I guarantee if I buy an HSPA phone, they'll put an LTE tower in my back yard a week later.
[raises hand]
I'll be getting it.
Dual core HSPA+ is fine with me, and the by the time a quad-core with LTE is available through AT&T I will be able to get the discount again. No point in waiting since AT&T is the only carrier that reaches my house.

This was my thinking for a little while but a few things swayed me back. The prime is rumored to have a 4.65" or bigger display. This is just way to big for me. The only way I could see this feeling nice is if the screen took up more space on the front, meaning closer to the edges. For example if it was the entire phone was the same size as the infuse it might not be too bad. As for LTE that doesn't matter to me because by the time they have a decent and functional network this phone will be long gone. Also rumors suggest that once you get an LTE phone you automatically get switched to a 2gb plan. No more unlimited .
Another thing to consider is that we don't know when this phone will launch on at&t. Verizon could easily have an exclusivity period and we could be left waiting and drooling for months.
But the real icing on the cake for me is I'm using a family members upgrade for this. My line is due for an upgrade in May so we'll see what happens then.
I'm torn. I love my Captivate, it's rooted and running great, except for a few GPS quirks. As awesome as the GSII looks, I may hold off for a little bit anyway to get some feedback, especially with respect to GPS, rooting, and battery life. Plus, I'll need a good case like my Body Glove TPU Case...

Yeah I love my Captivate too. Its been super smooth on GB 2.3.5! Much more than I ever imagined when I first got it. I'm hoping the SGS II will be the same way. With little time there will be safe rooting methods and some really stable Roms
I'm getting one. The way my plan is setup I can upgrade every year (my wife gets the old phone) . So no issue here. Also, there's always a new and best just around the corner as soon as something awesome is available in the market.

Go cruise the SGSII section to answer your questions. Apparently they are getting pretty good battery life out of them. Haven't seen a single bad GPS thread, and there are several ROMS available. Now that the US is starting to get these, i'd expect the developement to get even heavier. I guess that answers most of your questions.
You gotta remember that this phone has been out for several months already and is the number one selling phone in Europe and Asia. It's just now hitting here.

Gettin one for sure. Been waiting forever. I cant wait around for quadcore or lte. Single core has been fast enough. With 8mp camera, 1080p record, super amoled +, and dual core, how could it get better. Maybe the specs of the next best phones can say its better but how could you tell. I think i can live with SGS2 specs for two years

Just sold my captivate on Ebay for 200 which will go directly to my sgs2.
<----- Is getting one ! LOVE my captivate but it's time to pass her down to my daughter who is just as excited about getting my captivate!
I must say I completely get why some are staying with the captivate. It's a wonderful phone after putting one of the many many excellent roms on it.

Hello,
As a former HTC EVO3D Owner from the "First to Buy" opportunity in June before Sprint sold their soul to get the iPhone and before that an EVO 4G, I gotta say I absolutely am blown away by the Photon. I was quite intrigued by it when it was released, but Sprint staggered the release so that it was past 30 Days between when the 2 Phones were released.
I had so many issues with my 3D that I literally had 4 Replacement Handsets sent. I was finally so fed up that I told them either give me a Photon or I am cancelling.
The one thing I did not want to do is give up my last Annual Upgrade which they offered to move up if I paid $55 due to LTE coming and actually having a real chance of Nationwide availability.
Back to the Photon, while it took about 45 minutes to get used to the UI, I am really liking this phone more and more each day. And the Speaker is absurdly better than the one in the 3D. As in I can finally hear Netflix and all the Music on my Phone.
While I hope there is an official ICS Release, there are obviously ways around it. Moreover, with the vastly better Call Quality, Speaker, and just how much better it works in low signal strength areas, I am pretty much positive I will be getting whatever Motorola LTE device that comes out around June. Hopefully, it will be similar to the Razr.
It is weird, I have been with Sprint since 1999 and one of my all time favorite Phones was the StarTac I had around a decade ago. Unfortunately, my ex GF's Dog took it and digged a hole in the Yard. (found years later) Since then, there have been very few Motorola Handsets. I can only hope Sprint maintains at least cordial relations with Moto.
Cheers,
JJ
Welcome dude! You think its fast now, try unlocking and running CM7/CM9(ics) it will blow your mind. I'm pretty sure it's getting an official ICS update but the ics build we have now is phenomenal even at alpha stage.

Welcome! Hang out! I'm rooted, but not unlocked. Funny Kenny, I had my Evo for a year, I got Photon August 2nd 2011. I have used 4G EXACTLY 3 times!!!
Hello,
My most sincerest thanks again for the warm welcome. I have been with Sprint since 1999 and must say this is my favorite Handset by a Country Mile. Next comes Rooting and all that fun stuff.
I also love that when using ADW EX that the Motorola Widgets are available whereas the HTC Sense Widgets are not. And the difference with 4G staying connected is amazing. I was in Tampa/St. Pete today and the Photon never dropped Wimax whereas the 3D constantly did.
Cheers,
J

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about it?
Not to hijack but I'm totally opposite OP. Coming from Evo4g I think the Photon is a POS...I've had 3 replacements (reboot issues) and the 3rd still has trouble...mind you, all my issues are in heavy roam/no signal areas which I believe to be the factor but these probs didn't exist for my evo.
However, I recently flashed jokers cm9/ics and can vouch for Kenny's claims...this rom is sick as hell and so far my phone feels like a new unit. No crashes or issues yet in my roaming state, I can only cross my fingers at this point.
I'll likely jump ship if the Nexus hits anytime soon.
@cclarck, nothing personal, but do you think maybe it's you? you stated you flashed it, maybe your area does not like your radio? You also stated roaming?
Just saying. I have been reading for @ week on the Nexus, not impressed at all. (and if you have problems with Photon, good luck with the Samsung!)
Me specifically? No I don't believe so...now my photon in relation to my area...yes most likely. As you can see I'm a lurker but I have quite a bit of experience trying new roms/kernels on all my phones but the Photon has been nothing but frustrations to this point. That being said, it's not like there was a disclaimer on the Photon when I upgraded saying that it's radio would be complete sh!t compared to my evo while roaming, all while causing shutdowns requiring a battery pull/plugin.
I'd like to reinforce that cm9/ics so far is phenomenal, but 2 days soak is hardly extensive testing yet...
edit: Oh and I am certainly very scared to go to a Sammy, I think their build quality is the worst and I hate the plastic feel. My main reason for jumping aside from my photon history is wanting that huge screen; and I like the nex over the touch. Sprint needs more phones =(
If you want a huge screen skip the galaxy nexus and wait for the galaxy note. Sprint's definitely getting and that screen is even bigger. If you don't know what the galaxy note is check this out....

Yeah I don't like sammy either but this phone looks cool. I'm not going to get it as my contract expires this Feb. I may move my 2 lines somewhere else don't know yet. Sprints future looks promising with lte and all the hot devices launching but I simply can't wait till 2013 lol. I want to go back to gsm so I can swap sim cards as I please lol. God I hate cdma! I'm thinking att, definitely not t-mobile I worked there previously for almost 4 years. (I hate those bastards)
I've had att and never ever again, I've been through every carrier and they were the most frustrating with dropped calls and such. Unfortunately, my area is predominately Verizon but I missed the grandfathered data so no thanks to that too.
I dunno, every phone has it's fan base that disses on other brands and what-not so I get it. I haven't had Sammy experience since the Incredibad so maybe their build quality is better than I give credit...I def see a love/hate for every brand though, not just sammy.
I was in love with my photon when I first had it, even ignoring all the launch issues and replacements but it all eventually wore me down to never wanting a moto again =(

And it may be GSM/CDMA, who knows. @ the poster before me, yes all phones have their good and bad and you have individuals that talk negative about other phones, but each phone I look up, EVERYONE has a negative comment on Sammy's radios!! EVERYONE!!

Perhaps you may want to look into this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211157
It's a bit of a pain to set up at first but once you do it's worth it. My calls drop all the time in my apartment with Sprint, but not at all using a Verizon PRL.
There's a danger of roaming too much and getting noticed by Sprint, but for most people it seems to take 3+ months for Sprint to notice, and even then you'll more than likely receive a warning letter first.
I've been using this over over 6 months and I've gotten 1 warning letter but when I inquired about it with a Sprint chat rep, he said I was not in danger of being cut.
So YMVM, but it'd help at least short-term.
Hello,
For some reason, I cannot stand Samsung. This extends to their TV's and other Home Theater Components. I am a Moderator on a Moderator on a AV Forum with close to 100,000 Members and find it hard to recommend them.
For whatever reason, I lump them in with Hyundai (I must say they have made huge strides over the past years since the $3,999 Hyundai Excel) Regardless, I tend to prefer the Japanese and American Companies. I know everything is manufactured in China or Malaysia.
Cheers,
JJ
I am ALSO Rooted but NOT Unlocked. My area is Saturated with 4G and I use it ALOT. I have Unlimited Mobile Hotspot (GrandFathered in since I have been a customer since 1997) and use it on my Samsung Galaxy Player5.0 and HTC EVO View 4G (while out and about). I only use WiFi on the HTC EVO View (Did Not want ANOTHER Data Contract) and just Tether to my Photon.
