[Q] Samsung Galaxy S Showcase Problem. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've run into quite an annoying problem- I can't install applications from the market. Last night, I had my phone plugged into my computer and I don't THINK I had the SD mounted, but I've been wrong before. Anyways, I went to disconnect it and instead of dismounting then unplugging, I just unplugged. Since then, if I try to download something, the notification bar will show that the app is downloading, for a second, then it just disappears. My phone is rooted, no custom rom though, and I'm not running Apps2SD. Also, I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on my computer.
This has happened once before, and I had to tinker with popping my SD card out and rebooting the phone a few different ways before it finally started acting right again. I'm looking for help because 1) I can't remember exactly how I did it and 2) I figured I might as well try to find out if anyone here knows what I could do to fix it.
Thanks in advance.

Galaxy S Showcase stuck at very first screens
Afternoon guys, I did some browsing and searching and cannot seem to find a way to fix this, so here goes:
Samsung Galaxy S i500, Showcase with Cellular South.
It is rooted, with the original ROM/Kernel.
Yesterday, I was attempting to follow the guide on getting ClockWorkMod on it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860250) and when I finally got the final command to work, the phone rebooted, and has since been doing VERY little.
Power Button = SAMSUNG... No vibrate, No change.
Vol Up/Down + Power = SAMSUNG... No vibrate, word flashes, release power (steps to enter recovery or download), SAMSUNG screen remains. Still no vibrate or anything.
Plug in = Grey battery with "loading" circle with no animation of any kind. It is charging though.
Plug in + Vol for recovery/download mode = still just grey Battery not moving.
In all attempts, I have left it trying for anywhere between 30 mins to 4 hours... I cannot get to anything but those 3 results. (samsung, samsung w/ 1 flash, and grey battery).
If I can get it into Download, I can Odin it, or recovery to reset to factory... but I need to get to one. Any and all help is appreciated.

Download Mode
I had similar situation. Could not get past samsung screen. No splash screen.
Download mode. Pull battery, Plug in USB, hold Vol-. Little guy with shovel.
As for getting back to running. Good luck. I got new warrantied phone couldn't figure out how to fix after soft brick.

Touch Pro abruptly stopped working; won't boot.

So here's a peculiar incident:
I have a CDMA TP with a stock ROM and a few basic apps I gathered from these forums and others. I've had it for less than a week.
Tonite, I went to check my text messages. Suddenly, the screen went black and the phone stopped responding. After pressing the power button and fiddling with the keys, I pulled out the stylus and did a soft reset. No response. Confused by this, I tried again, but still nothing. I removed the battery, and turned the phone back on. It froze at the "Touch Pro" screen with the rom/radio/etc info at the bottom. After repeating this a few times I decided to do a hard reset. So, I turn the device on and perform the hard reset. By this point the TP is only turning on SOME TIMES, and I have to take the battery out and put it back in often just to get it to start successfully. So, I finally get the device to boot up and it starts to configure WinMo. Suddenly, while configuring, it freezes. Now I try to turn it back on, and nothing happens.
Basically the device is stuck like this, shifting between not turning on at all and turning on but freezing at the "Touch Pro" screen.
So, my question is, what the heck is going on here? Has anyone else had this problem, or does this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
p.s. Yes, the battery is fully charged.

Time to take it in and get a new one.....
Same problem here phone started b not coming out of lock mode. Backlight is on but no display on screen (if i tilt the screen left and right i can see light coming from behind) did about 6 hard resets and still same problem. also power button works whenever it wants to. this phone sucks @ss, i want my mogul back. on a second note my replacement will be here on wednesday.
Touch Pro stock rom purchased back in nov when it came out
yeah, i've had the same problem, i found if i hit my phone on the back or side and then batter pull and hit the soft reset while off, not the power button to turn it back on, it comes back on with color on the screen not just blank black screen with backlight, this works mostly every time, but when it doesn't, i just hold the power button down and do battery pull and hit the power button and it works, its like its got a combo of things you have to do before it works.. weird
Boot Up
I have also had similar problems. I for some reason sometimes have to remove my SD card and boot up without it for some reason. Not all the time, but every once in a blue moon. Not too sure how that affects anything, but you may try that too.
well i started a thread here ***help*** because i kinda have the same problem.
i downloaded some cabs, nothing fancy but i had some problems with a theme i downloaded. when i went to deleted i couldnt..... to make a story short, i took it to the sprint store where they tried to do a master reset/ hard reset and it wont take it. it wont do a thing... they say some important files are missing...
the phone works but not the way it should... the time on the home screen wont show up. and some other small things...
dont know how this happened but i would like to know... im worried about new programs to the phone now. ( getting a new one)
still want to see if i can fix this one.

Have you tried re flashing the ROM?
it wasnt HTC's fault for your phone's not booting...thats what happens when u try to mess with the hardware too much and you dont know what your doing
Would you want to sell???
Reboot Brick HTC process
****DOn't take battery out after hard boot***
1.just watch videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk56olMkCtU and do what they do but dont take battery out. LEAVE phone STUCK on BOOT screen. Nothign else will move or work but you want phone just like that.
2. connect usb cable to active sync. (this may not link up but leave usb connected anyhow) Do not delete phone profile.
3.use rom like Download MightyROM6_Herman.exe avail at: http://www.lilrico.com/Mighty/mightyromblog/?p=454
4 although active sync is still attatched but may not be connecting. It will connect thru usb anyway when you run the rom software. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV2I2WAFkg4&NR=1
This worked and kept phone from cutting on and off. and restored ROM. don't know about original htc boot. but your phone will work under this rom for now and you can go from there.
hey thanks plain ole dumb, it works now.
man I thought it was over.
thanks again

[Q] Bootloader/Download mode blocked on new/replacement Vibrants?

Hello community!
I own 2 Vibrants, both rooted with no issues. I'm no stranger to flashing through Odin, I've flashed many of the Vibrants in my workplace back to the stock 2.1 (seems to fix most of the issues short of GPS problems, even though it's supposed to be the same), so download mode is nothing new to me.
Recently a few of the people who've come to me with Vibrants have shown how they can't get in to recovery or download mode without using ADB, the hardware keys just don't seem to work for it. I've tried myself and was able to confirm this. We were still able to root them with no issues using one click root. I prefer to manually flash the update.zip myself, but whatever does the job. I've just received a replacement for one of the Vibrants (menu button went out), and noticed I can not get in to recovery/download mode. Naturally I rooted, installed terminal, then rebooted in to download mode, started a flash with Odin.
It hung on cache.rfs. I waited... and waited.. and it mocked me in it's frozen status. So now I'm at the phone+!+computer screen, which I've been at several times on my main Vibrant, but the key's still do not work for download mode. To clarify, I've tried each of the following methods to enter in to download mode, several times. It won't work. I'm in the process of trying different button combination's to see if there is another way to get in. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
Edit: Included working steps so people don't have to search the thread
Provided by rhcp0112345:
Try this.
1. Take out battery, put it back in. (to turn the phone fully off)
2. Don't turn it the phone on!
3. Plug the phone into your PC, do not hit the power button!
4. See if the phone shows anything on the screen (powers on its own when plugged in)
IF the phone screen does 'turn on' after being plugged in without you hitting the power button, so far so good.
5. Now while it's on like this, hold the volume up AND volume down buttons.
6. Hold the power button as well as the volume buttons until the screen goes black.
7. As soon as the screen goes black, let go of the power button! But DON'T let go of the volume buttons!

Hello,
If the above does not work for you.
Can you supply a full dump of the phone? Perhaps I/others can take a look at it.
Thanks!
I have tried that. I have tried almost every combination I can think of. I have tried holding both volume rockers then inserting the battery while plugged in to USB, holding the power through 1 and 2 cycles, I have even tried 3 and 4 cycles as well. I have tried just vol down, just vol up, both with the same results. I have purposefully bricked my main Vibrant to test this out and make sure I wasn't losing my mind. I was able to get in to download mode several ways, none of which work on this new device.
@rhcp0112345 - How do I grab a full dump of the phone? I'll be honest, I've never spent very long in phone+!+computer before tonight. I've never been stuck here long enough to see how to connect via computer. At this moment, plugging the phone into the pc gives me no prompts that something has been plugged in, the phone isn't seen by adb (big shock) or Odin. I'm at a loss myself.
Well,
First thing.
Can you please dump like so:
Code:
adb shell
su
busybox ls -al /dev/block/
Post that here.
Also,
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if="/dev/block/bml0!c" of=/sdcard/bml0.backup
Please 7zip the bml0.backup file and upload it someplace and PM me the info. Dont post it public.
Thanks!
I'll be happy to do that with the next device I have this issue with, but I can't boot the phone, therefore I can't connect via ADB (been trying, if I could do adb, I could just simply 'adb reboot download' to get in to download mode). I'm thinking at this point I will have to exchange the phone, as I can't get past the phone+!+computer screen no matter what I try.
I was running into this problem too. I re-extracted the files and tried again and it worked. I also tried it without loading the .pit into odin, not sure which of two or both did it. Not sure if its the right way, but that did it after hangin on the cache numerous times.

Follow the unbrick method.
You pull the battery and some other stuff.
To get it past that.
I think its volume up? + power?
Yeah, removing the .pit file seems to fix the lock up issue in Odin, but unfortunately, I'm not even getting to the download screen, so I can't get Odin to find the phone. I'm sure once I get to download mode I can get it running, but I'm unable to get download mode on this one device.
Try this.
1. Take out battery, put it back in. (to turn the phone fully off)
2. Don't turn it the phone on!
3. Plug the phone into your PC, do not hit the power button!
4. See if the phone shows anything on the screen (powers on its own when plugged in)

If you mean this solution to fix any brick, I have tried that method, it doesn't work on this new device. I originally used this thread when I was messing with my first Vibrant, and it worked beautifully, but it doesn't work on the new vibrant.
So I've pretty much given up on trying to figure this out. I've tried every method possible, all work on both my non-replacement vibrants, but nothing works on the replacement one. Going to have it replaced again and have a new one ordered out. When that one gets here, I will test download/recovery modes, if I have any issues, I'll pull the dump file and post it here, maybe someone can figure out what's going on. On the back of the device, the IMEI sticker has manufacture dates (year.month), looks like the replacement was a 10.7 just like my original Vibrant, so it's not a manufacturer date type issue, it's got to be something changed in the software side of things. It's almost as though the volume rocker keys do not work for recovery/download mode, I get the exact same thing as if I'm just pressing the power button. When I did get in to recovery (before getting to it's current state), the volume keys worked fine for selection though. I can confirm that there is no new information on tmob's side about how to do a hard reset using the hardware buttons (ie, recovery mode) as of this posting.
Did you try with the phone OFF..
1. Have ODIN running
2. Hold Volume Down + Up
3. Plug in USB (WHILE HOLDING VOLUMES buttons in)
Should go directly into DOWNLOAD mode
I did try that as well. Works beautifully on both my old Vibrants, but not on this new one.

@ Johnny12times: Dude u'r right. I've played around with a few different vibrants and they could all go into "download mode" - but when receiving a replacement unit (within the last 2 days), nothing works to go into download mode. Something has definitely changed - not sure what.
Good luck bro - hope it all works out.
I received my Vibrant last Thursday (8/19). I have never been able to boot into recovery mode using the buttons. Needed to root by using one-click.
Ive also tried every button combo and am still unable to get recovery or download. I received the phone last fri (8/20). Its so frustrating knowing that so many other people can get manual recovery. Im sending it back tomorrow for replacement, but who knows if that one will even work? I hope someone figures out why so many vibrants are unable to do this. Good luck!
Well my new one should be here within the next day or so, as soon as it arrives I'll check it and pull a dump file. I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to fix it, but at least smart enough to put it here for the people that can.
How about this:
1. Remove SD and SIM card
2. Remove battery
3. plug the phone into USB
4. hold down vol-up and vol-down
5. pop the battery back in while holding vol buttons

Unable to enter download mode. Help! [Q]

Let me start off by saying that I have searched in every possible place for a solution, and the only option I have left is you guys.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that only turns on for a couple of seconds when connected to my computer or the charger.
The phone is running Slimbean 4.2.1 with Dormiax kernel version 7.46. Today I switched to Dormiax kernel version 8, but my phone would not get passed the samsung logo, so I reinstalled the 7.46 kernel. It was a little buggy during the rest of the day, restarting and ****, and then, all of a sudden, it died.
Now, I am unable to turn my phone on. And yes, I have tried with different batteries (4 to be precise). The only sign of life I get is when i connect it to the charger, then the grey battery icon with a loading circle in it shows up for a couple of seconds, and then the phone goes black for a couple of seconds, and the icon reappear again. I can also make the download mode screen appear, however, this too only shows up for a couple of seconds.
Have anybody experienced something similar? If so, any suggestions on what I can do?

[Q] Help! Phone soft bricked.

So I rooted my phone 3 months ago. Using the external 64g card trick and everything went perfect.
Had SU installed, and titanium running.
January 1st my phone battery died while riding home on my motorcycle or was close. I had it on the charger when it died. The phone went into a reboot mode. It has the battery, with the circle in the middle and vibrating every few seconds.
I can get into the recover mode when plugged into the samsung wall charger. But I can only get into download mode on usb with computer.
Using odin 3 v3.09.
I loaded it up with the jflte_usa_vzw_16g.pit file in the pit section.
Then loaded up all_i545vruemk2_i545vzwemk2_1937946_rev06_user_low_ship_muti_cer.tar.md5 in the AP section
Thinking the above would be the most up to date. I'm traveling and need the phone and not worried about root anymore.
So it went through the md5 checking. Good
Then without changing any other settings I hit start.
13 minutes later, I get a reset above the id:com
I let it go with out touching the phone.
Then it gives me a pass without any errors.
So I unplugged my phone off the usb cable, pull the battery. Reinstall after 30 seconds. Nothing.
I plug into the usb and it goes back to battery icon and circle like nothing happened.
I can get into download on usb to computer
And recovery only on wall charger
I did try a factory reset and cache reset
Looked like it worked
But phone unchanged.
I then tried the kies firmware and initialization mode.
Loaded up my sch-i545 then my IMEI,
It conects, downloads, installs, finishes, no errors
Unplug and dead, plug in usb, battery icon and circle,
Plug to wall, recover mode,
So phone seems like its taken both updates without errors. But acts unchanged.
Would the vibration from my handle bar mount cause a sudden issue? I've been running this set up for months without issue.
I'm at a loss. I read is you can get it into download mode it should be able to get recovered.
Tried all I know and have read about.
So now with phone plugged into the samsung wall charger.
I went to download mode, selected re-start
Phone booted,
Samsung, unlocked padlock
Samsung blue purple splash screen. (Blue led light)
Verizon screen almost fully loaded (blue led light)
Then phone shuts off, goes back to battery icon with circle.

did you ever find a solution for this? This seems like the exact same problem I am having with my phone. Everything was working until it lost power. Now the power button will not turn device on. It will only turn on when connected to usb computer or wall charger and just shows an empty battery sign. It seems to reboot every 15 seconds from this. If I go into download mode and chose restart phone it gets to the white verizon loading screen and reboots. I can get to both download and recovery mode and flashed the stock full wipe and PIT file and this process succeeded but the phone is still doing the same thing.

My i545 is a similar phenomenon.
I am afraid to say, that as far as I know, with the Knox bootloader, it disallows any upgrading what so ever. I have heard of this bricking devices. The only way out of this is to see if you can reflash the most current ROM, but I am unsure if even that will work.

Lollipop 5.1 bootloop....sort of?

Hello everyone,
I've been a reader for a while, purely out of interest. I've never really dabbled with customizing android. In that regard I am a noob... I recently acquired a Medion X6001 that I was planning to build into my car as informant/navigation. Phone root successful, developer options active, debugging and oem options active. Automate programmed to all the standards I was happy with., worked great. All that was left to do to was get the thing to boot on charge. The "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" command was unsuccessful so I resorted to trying to find the system file responsible for battery icon on charge with power off.
That's where I went wrong. This phone has two icons; first a battery with a bolt, then switches to another with blue fluid and battery percentage. I found the blue fluid battery icon - 'system/bin/kpoc_charger', unfortunately I needed the killswitch battery icon. So I made another guess and renamed - 'system/bin/lmkd'. This was the file directly before ...kpoc and my daft logic lead me to believe that that might have been the right file. Obviously, it wasn't.
So the problem? The phone won't boot. Not really... At first, it was entirely stuck in bootloop. So, the good sheep I am, I factory reset the phone through recovery. The phone still went into bootloop for a few minutes, but came out of it to an applet saying 'optimizing apps'. Took 10 minutes to optimize and then went through to another applet saying something along the lines of "system process not found, do you want to wait?". Behind this applet I could tantalizingly see the startup screen of a freshly reset android.... It gave the option to wait or push ok, neither of which were actually active to touch. If I held the power button it would give me the option to shutdown, reboot or screenshot, also none of which where actually active to touch.
So after more googling, I wiped the cache through recovery. Everything stayed the same; bootloops for a few minutes then applets. Only now everything is in Chinese kanji... which is why I can't reiterate verbatim what the applets originally said...
After around 12 hours of tirelessly searching the web I've tried everything I've found but every time I get through a door there's another one closed. I can't install twrp or clockwork, I can't flash the rom, the phone won't let me unlock the bootloader in fastboot. Went I type the command it asks if I want to unlock it: volume up yes, volume down no. But fails: "remote access denied"
Since the factory reset, I don't have access through adb anymore. If I let the phone boot I can see it connect to the computer, but only as mtp. The file is entirely empty. I have no access to usb debugging. And to remotely access that, I need to be able to unlock the bootloader.
I can't get around the blocks and everything that is advised to get around bootloops and flash through fastboot are seemingly impossible because I no longer have proper access. But I can't get into the phone to get access...
And to make matters worse, just now as I type this.... I can't get into fastboot anymore. I think the phone battery is dead, but apparently doesn't accept a charge. When I plug it in the battery symbol appears, the dark red led lights up indicating very low battery. Very shortly after that the led turns off, which is not how it was before I buggered everything. Battery icon stays on, but when I push the necessary buttons to get into recovery, everything goes blank and the phone does nothing. When released, battery icon comes back and red led for a few seconds. Repeat. Phone has been plugged in all night....
I'm nearly bald from pulling my hair out. I hope there's someone out there that can give me a hand. I have a hard time believing I bricked the phone just by changing a bin file name.
Thanks in advance!
fastboot
I have access to fastboot again. Plugged the phone into a different cable, is now charging. I can see the battery % through recovery.
Back in business....sort of.
Any idea's welcome.
bump
Anyone?
Well I found the ultimate cure: buy a new one.
I will however keep fumbling around with the other one and hopefully as my knowledge increases I'll have a break through.
