[Q] SMS Messaging Problem - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently upgraded to an HTC HD2 that I bought on eBay. It was an O2 phone that had been unlocked so I could use it on Orange. When I picked it up, SMS messaging was working fine, unfortunately, a dodgy app meant I had to do a hard reset and since then I can't send or receive text messages.
I've checked that the message centre number is correct. I found it in 2 different places but it's the same in both (which is the number that Orange provided).
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Setting SMS Service Center

Hello.
Got a TG01, Orange Romania branded and unlocked before I get it.
I am using it in Vodafone RO network.
There is a problem with SMS Service Center: I can't send SMS message, I can receive...
MMS is workin' ok.
I installed the Operator Settings from Toshiba website (MMS, GPRS, E-Mail).
In network, SMS is an empty field and is not remaining filled after save-and-exiting.
Is any way to set it in registry?
Thanks.
[Used official and some cooked ROMs, unsuccesfully...]
Intially when I got mine about 2 weeks ago also got such problem. But the problem disappear after you put in the latest official ROM from Toshiba's website.
Go to settins, connections, mail settings, SMS
and enter the SMS center number provided by your operator

I've done it, and tried some official and Cooked ROMS.
Seems that is a decoding problem.

I know where to set, but the field remains empty after writing and pressing "OK".
same problem
I had the same problem as you
The problem is incompatible SIM card
Go to your service provider and look for a new sim card with same number
I also solved the problem after 10 days of brain torture

X10 2.1 sms issue

Hey all,
Just wondering whether its me or not, but ever since the update if I type a text longer than '1 message(+9) '(weird but cool feature if I must say) my phone will Not send the message no matter what..and as long as I have it under that character limit it works fine...
I'm in australia and with Optus, and I work for them as well so I know it isn't my sim or my account :/
Anybody else had this issue? Because I know currently the samsung galaxy S(2.1) is having compatability issues with texting, but I wouldn't imagine it'd be the same cause...

I just did a test text and it worked fine.. 2 messages sent no problems.. (UK Vodafone).. World Generic 2.1 firmware.
just wondering did you update to the optus 2.1 or the generic?
I have a feeling i must be on the generic firmware because i did have 1.6 Rooted prev. to the update
I asked the guys at work about the update today and none of them so far have been able to update...even though i downloaded the Australasian PC Companion.
but even picture messages and everything else works perfectly fine...its just that one thing =/
I have the exact same issue, it happened to me also on 1.6 bu that was more generous and gave me 2 message lengths before it would fail to send. its strange as the first couple of messages i sent on the nordic 2.1 update where fine and they were well over 2 message lengths and then suddenly if i try to send one over 1 message length it fails!!! weird
would love to find the reason to this
Someone found any solution FOR THIS??? Help
It's saying "Could not send" for me, but is actually sending the first 160 characters of the message
Edited to add: I'm on UK Vodafone with the Global Generic 2.1 firmware.
Further edit: I'm able to send long sms to myself, just not my intended recipient...? She's on O2, could this be why?
Even more edit: Just tried sending to someone else and they didn't receive anything?! Very inconsistent!
sms Issue
Hi,
I have the same issue with my sms, it will not send more than 1 message otherwise the text bounce back saying message not sent, I just upgraded to 2.1 Nordic. The problem did exist when i was on the 1.6 but then the message will not send only if it was more than 2 messages, I am on vodafone uk, my phone was not debranded whilst running 1.6.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I still haven't found a solution to this, interesting that you're also on UK Vodafone though, maybe it's something to do with them rather than the firmware?
has anyone found solution to this I have Rogers X10a and Telus sim card in it. Can't send sms if its longer than 160 charecters . Please help
I'm having the same problem as well. Any message over 160 characters and it won't send. This has actually resulted in my not being able to send shorter messages after trying to send a message that is over 160 characters. Not sure what is going on here or if there is a setting that can be changed for this.
I'm in the U.S. on AT&T. Used the xda flash to global and rogers and neither would send an sms message over 160 I guess? (it's 2 sms) Did a global firmware to 1.6 and then updated to x10a 2.1 via sony and then tried and it still would not send. It will send through GSM however using the edge network. It must have something to do with the h network then and no I don't get 3g to pop up at the top of the screen ever..
I'm not too sure what the problem is here but it is the only one I am having on my phone, everything else is working great!...
If anyone can help us all out with any ideas or suggestions it would be great but as of now it sounds like it's a problem with the new software from sony. Gonna try messing with the sms apn a bit and see if I come up with anything but as of now 2.1 sms is considered broken in my opinion.:/
im having the same problem. im using chompsms and at the botton, instead of saying 160 char it says 70 and wont send more than two texts long. If the network is changed to GSM only, any size text will send but then internet is slow unless its changed back. AT&T settings were found automatically but they are all correct.
my SE Xperia X10 on 2.1 wont send messages at all. no matter the size. ive tried to send messages like "Hey" or "No" and they dont send. Im with in Canada, with Rogers. And its not my signal because i have 4 bars...
-Thanks

Thanks Jeff! As I am having this issue too, awaiting for any news about it...
Hi Everyone,
I've heard back from our team today. This is not a generic problem. I will need information from your phones to pass on so I can duplicate the problem. Please PM me the following details:
Country:
Service Provider/Operator:
IMEI:
SI#: (SI is the ####-####.# on the back of the phone)
Did this happen in 1.6?:
Did it ever work on 2.1?:
I need at least 5 examples to pass to the team to move this forward. I will update you when I've collected these.
Hi all,
Ok, found a solution - try this and let us know how it goes, its worked for me!
1. Open dialer and dial: *#*#4636#*#*
2. Select Phone Information from menu
3. Scroll down to SMSC
4. Enter SMS centre number given by your service provider in this box
5. Select Update
I got a "update error" message but it still seemed to save the number, but with " and a 3 digit code after it.
If the above doesn't work, as a short term solution you caould switch to just "GSM" in your network settings and this also works - not ideal, but it's a workaround!

[Q] Galaxy SIII Not Receiving Text Messages

Hi,
I recently helped a colleague purchase a Galaxy SIII phone here in China, Guangzhou and made sure I checked the phone over completely before I purchased it.
I've done a search on the forums and check out anything that may be similar, but to no avail.
The problem is:
The phone will not receive any text messages, or at least they don't go through to the messaging app.
Text messages were being received normally for around a week
I disabled a bunch of pre-installed Chinese crap that is unfortunately not un-installable as it's baked into the ROM
It happened once, so I factory reset it, and then tested it. The text messages worked fine
I then disabled the Chinese stuff once again and installed Skype. Just to be sure, I sent more test text messages, and they were all received fine.
Around one week later, here we are, she says that text messages are not being received again.
All other functions of the phone are working. Internet / Edge network, sending texts, Play store, everything. Just not the receiving of texts!
I'm fairly confused as to this behaviour, particularly as it seems the text messages are working for a time limited period.
I had some inklings of what it could be:
- The SIII takes a micro-sim, the shop "manually" chopped the SIM using a cutter. Could this have damaged the SIM and caused this behaviour?
- The phone itself is faulty
- Something is up with the China Mobile settings / network and she needs to call them.
What would be your diagnosis, ideas, solutions XDA'ers?
Further information of any kind is, of course, available on request.
**** My ideas for a fix ****
Root the bastard and get a standard UK ROM on the phone to see if it works. However, I have some concerns. Years ago, when I bought my first HTC desire, when I rooted and put a UK ROM on it, I discovered that my phone was an imported Thai version of the phone and almost bricked it into a reboot loop as the phone didn't like a different regions ROM being loaded on.
I had to go through a convoluted process of making a specially edited SD-card to fool the phone into accepting different ROMS. Is this the case with the Galaxy SIII or have times moved on to more sophisticated means?
Thanks.
GJO
Have you try other messaging apps like Hancent SMS or Go SMS to confirm that msg service is not working?
Or maybe the CSC is causing the problem?

Open the stock messaging app. In its menu go to settings. Check that there is a number recorded under message centre. If not use Google to find the number for the carrier you are with and enter it.
I'm on an unrooted phone with a stock Rom and twice messaging has stopped working. The cause was that this number had spontaneously disappeared.

Ok, I've tried:
- alternative messaging apps, and they're not picking it up either.
- the message centre number.
When you say CSC? You mean the carrier code? It was bought in China and fitted with a Chinese ROM, but I'll look at the ROM settings and see what it is.
Thanks.
U dial *#1234# then you can see your csc
CSC – (Consumer Software Customization) Refers to the specific country or carriers for that said firmware is being build.
This where it contains the default settings of each specific geographical region, carrier network providers and network data connections.

I am having this problem. It was all working fine then suddenly it stopped. I don't know what could be the cause but I fooled around with the settings, deleted old text messages and then suddenly I received dozens of text messages.
It's like my phone isn't trying to receive any text messages. It can send text messages out but it won't receive any.
I am using Omega 31.1.
Can someone help me out please?

Unlocked S3 not receiving texts

Hi, I'm having a strange problem here. The phone does not receive any text messages. It can still send them and still receives mms though. This is actually the second time it's happened and none of the solutions I've found so far have worked.
What I ended up doing the first time it happened was I took out the sim and put it into my old phone (an AT&T One X) and that would receive all those texts I wasn't getting before. Then I factory reset the S3 and put the sim back into it. Doing that solved the issue for a little while, but now it's happening again.
Anybody know what's happening here or what I'm doing wrong? I'm on AT&T and currently running Android Revolution HD 22.4 using the latest official Samsung rom. The phone is a European version that I bought from Newegg unlocked.
Thanks!

My wife's having the same problem with her international GS3 on AT&T - just stopped receiving text messages a couple of days ago, but she can still send them and she can receive MMS. She swapped sim cards and nothing changed, and a factory reset didn't fix the problem. Call center number is correctly indicated in the messaging app. I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T and they were unable to help (and unwilling to help after I said the word "unlocked"). However, I put the sim in an old phone and she immediately received the missing text messages.
Running stock EMB5, not rooted.
I think it's some configuration problem.
Like number of SMS center or such, ask your operator to get exact configuration.
I have been experienced similar problem, not unable to receive but unable to sent correctly, my text was incorrectly encoded.
just check out the setting.

Well as I said, the call center number was correct.
In any case, I seem to have fixed the issue (for the moment, at least) by using the kies "firmware upgrade and initialization" procedure to wipe and reset the phone.
